One of the best ESC's from the '60s

First of all, the hostess, Erica Vaal, should get an award for best presenter for a musical variety special, but then again, they don't have prime time Emmy awards in Europe, oh well. But she made a conscientious effort in greeting the MANY viewers watching the program in several languages, including English, Spanish, Italian, French, German, etc, and of course she concluded the program in those languages as well, as saying good night in 10 different languages.

Now, on with the singers. First place definitely deserved to go to the UK's Sandie Shaw with her winning song, "Puppet on a string". Honorable mentions go definitely first to Spain's Raphael with his song, "Hablemos del Amor", second, Luxembourg's Vicky Leandros' "L'amour est bleu", and finally, Finland's Fredi, with his bouncy song, "Varjoon Sujaan" which I couldn't even pronounce, but he sang that song with such conviction.

And finally, the interval act, while the juries were tallying up their votes, etc, the audience was treated to a beautiful performance by the famed Vienna Boys' Choir, singing Blue Danube. This I had to mention because some interval acts are better than others. This should get an award for best interval act of the Eurovision Song Contests, overall.

    • Trivia
Oldest Eurovision preserved in its original videotape. Older Eurovisions were either never recorded on tape or the tapes were erased or destroyed. Except the 1956 and the 1964 editions, which are now lost (the 1956 edition was never recorded and the 1964 tape was lost in a fire and no copies were done of it), all other editions from 1957 to 1966 were transferred to film from the original broadcast or from the videotapes before they were erased.
