Charles Robinson and Barry Primus in Jackson (2008)
Two homeless men have a quixotic day of comedy, adventure, and romance and upon the streets of Los Angeles thanks to a “Jackson,” a twenty dollar bill, and the beautiful musical backdrop of opera’s greatest arias.

    A fantastic film

This is one of the best films I have ever seen. Passionate, moving, caring - but all without being over bearing. The use of several centuries worth of beautiful music really adds to the script. The two leads produce phenomenal performances, and really make you feel for them. The film, as a wonderful compassionate message, without being overbearing, and managed to make me laugh out loud on several occasions.

The musical scenes could have been more tightly tied to the script, however, the were powerful and moving. No complaints.

I would recommend this film to anyone.

Just Screened It For Possible Phoenix Film Festival Submission

A truly original premise whereupon a centralized storyline of two homeless gentlemen, led by wonderfully acted Barry Primus (Righteous Kill, 15 Minutes) and Charles Robinson (NBC's Night Court, Set It Off) during a 24 hour period in Hollywood and their struggles for cafeteria-style food, clean laundry and discrimination after being given a $20 bill by a businessman. The story is interlaced with operatic performances of the cast and background characters giving the film a very surreal quality not found too much in recent memory. Debra Jo Rupp (That 70s Show) and Steve Guttenberg (Cocoon, Police Academy series) are just among the few in this wonderfully casted ensemble. The score magnificent and if it weren't for the Duran Duran-type 80s music video effects that detract from the viewing experience, this film would be a perfect gem. Otherwise, a can't miss, a true original

    I loved it

This movie knows how to pull at your heartstrings. A beautifully written and acted film. An offer of perspective for those less fortunate, showing how most people's short interactions with houseless individuals lack the broader context of their life. Though I couldn't parse the intention of the musical numbers used throughout as sort of a segue between chapters, I still enjoyed them, some more than others. While it's hard to find context on the making of the film, the numerous veterans of the industry and low budget filming leads me to imagine this as a passion project. I do wonder what this would look like with a larger budget at their disposal. Yet, I do appreciate what was captured with this grittier DIY style of filming.
