Michael Douglas and real-life son Cameron Douglas are set to reunite on the big screen.
Good Deed Entertainment has acquired domestic rights to Looking Through Water — a family drama feature starring Michael Douglas — and is planning a late summer theatrical release, The Hollywood Reporter has learned exclusively. Roberto Sneider helmed the film that co-stars Cameron Douglas alongside Walker Scobell, David Morse, Michael Stahl-David, Ximena Romo and Tamara Tunie.
Looking Through Water centers on a father who attempts to bond with his estranged son by teaming up with him for a father-son fishing competition.
Sneider (Tear This Heart Out) directed the movie from a script by Rowdy Herrington (director of the original Road House) and Zach Dean (Fast X). Hailing from Aeth Entertainment, the project is based on the novels Catching Big Fish and Looking Through Water from author Bob Rich, who executive produces.
Producers include Robert Mitas, Stan Spry, Carla Woods and Eric Woods.

When Kirk Douglas died in 2020 at the age of 103 (!), he left behind a massive legacy of over 90 films that even the most stalwart cineastes haven't been able to work their way through. Known for his affable smile and intense performances, Douglas is one of Hollywood's most famous leading men, and was the industry's most profitable actor throughout the 1950s. He was also a producing powerhouse, having started his own production company, Bryna Productions, which handled some of his best-known films. Bryna backed the Stanley Kubrick movies "Paths of Glory" and "Spartacus," as well as "The Vikings," "Seconds," "Seven Days in May," and, later on, "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest." Douglas never lost sight of the evolving nature of film, rarely resting on trends or genres.
In 1962, Bryna also backed a neo-Western called "Lonely Are the Brave." Set in the present day, "Brave" stars Douglas as a Korean War veteran...

Peter Billingsley, known for his role as Ralphie in A Christmas Story, made a cameo as Ming Ming in Elf. Uncredited for his Elf role, Billingsley's appearance went unnoticed for many years until the internet rediscovered it. Billingsley and Jon Favreau have collaborated multiple times, with Billingsley producing several of Favreau's films and working together on others like Iron Man.
Peter Billingsley's most iconic role is Ralphie from A Christmas Story, but it still comes as a shock to many that he also made a cameo in Elf. The late Bob Clark had one of the wildest directing careers of all time, having helmed classics in very different genres. He directed 1974's Black Christmas, a slasher tale that's seen as a precursor to films like Halloween, and the original rowdy teen comedy Porky's. His most beloved work remains 1983's A Christmas Story, where Peter Billingsley's Ralphie has various misadventures leading up to Christmas Day.

Ah, summer. The gentle warmth of the sun, the green grass, waves caressing your feet as you walk the sands of the beach, freely licking flagpoles without your tongue sticking to it... What better time to talk about the sequel to the perennial holiday classic A Christmas Story. No, not A Christmas Story Christmas, the so-called "proper" sequel with the original Ralphie, Peter Billingsley, released in 2022, a full 39 years after the original. That would be madness. No, we are talking about the long forgotten sequel My Summer Story, aka It Runs in the Family, from 1994, helmed by Bob Clark, who directed the first film.

What is the criteria for playing a character based on a factual person? How much artistic license is granted toward playing such a character in a fiction piece? Should an actor portray said character based on the knowledge or experience required for the role? Those are the ethical dilemmas at play in Victoria Linares Villegas’ sophomore feature Ramona. In the originally planned, Covid-thwarted fiction film, actor and casting director Camilla Santana plays the eponymous girl, a pregnant woman amidst the teen pregnancy epidemic in the Dominican Republic.
But the pandemic forced Villegas to make this preconceived idea into a documentary where the slightly older Santana interviews six tween / young-adult mothers to get an understanding of Ramona. She seeks the character’s authenticity by grasping their imaginations of how Ramona lives, her fashion style, physical appearance, body movement, and how she interacts with male bargoers. Ahead of its world premiere screening as part of Berlinale’s Generation 14plus strand, Alief has swooped on global sales to Dominican director Victoria Linares Villegas’s second non-fiction feature, “Ramona,” and has provided Variety exclusive access to its first look trailer.
After its Berlin run, “Ramona” is set for a North American bow at the True False Documentary Film Festival in Columbia, Missouri this March, where Linares will receive the Visionary Award.
A postmodern look into the class divide and lives of an already vulnerable population, the project has emerged as a documentary with glimpses of scripted narrative, which the director credits to the adolescents she interviewed; their predicaments became paramount.
“I started developing ‘Ramona’ in 2016 as a fiction film, about a pregnant teenager who escapes the outskirts of Santo Domingo in search of a casting call for her favorite telenovela,” Linares recounted in a statement.

The Walloon Regional Investment Fund will support a variety of new works to the overall tune of €1.3 million. On the occasion of its 101st session, held under such very special circumstances, Wallimage’s Walloon Regional Investment Fund is throwing its weight behind 8 new film projects, as well as 2 considerable animated series projects. The first work supported by the fund is C’est de famille!, a debut feature film by young Belgian director Elodie Lélu, which follows in the footsteps of Manon, an introverted, 16-year-old teen who finds herself having to co-habit with her unbearable grandma Yvonne, a former militant feminist now unable to live alone. The situation intensifies when Yvonne becomes confused and starts to believe Manon is her daughter… Toplining the film, we find the likes of young Belgian actress Fantine Harduin (the heroine of Fabrice du Welz’s Adoration) alongside Bouli Lanners and Hélène Vincent. Prepare to feel pleasantly nostalgic, as the beloved locomotive with the slightly creepy face, Thomas the Tank Engine, is chugging his way back onto the big screen courtesy of Mattel Films and Marc Forster's production company 2Dux². Described as a mixture of CGI and live-action akin to Alvin and the Chipmunks and Detective Pikachu, the script for the new take on Thomas & Friends is ready to go with director Marc Forster on board to helm the project.
"Thomas has been a personal favorite of mine since childhood," said Marc Forster. "I couldn't be more excited to be working with Robbie and the entire team at Mattel, and embarking on this beautiful journey with such a timeless property."
Forster is best known for directing the apocalyptic action horror World War Z starring Brad Pitt and the twenty-second movie in the James Bond franchise and second starring Daniel Craig, Quantum of Solace.

It was confirmed earlier today that, after being attached to play Eric Draven in Sony's The Crow reboot for nearly two years, Jason Momoa is leaving the long-gestating project. Now the actor has issued a message to his fans. Momoa took to Instagram this morning to express his love for director Corin Hardy, who also left the project after being attached for three and a half years, and Sony Pictures, while stating that he'll be ready to play Draven when the film is "right." Here's Jason Momoa's statement to the fans below.
"I've waited 8 years to play this dream role. I love you @corinhardy and @sonypictures unfortunately I may have to wait 8 more. Not our team. But I swear I will. James O'Barr sorry to let you down I won't on the next. This film needs to be set free. And to the fans. Sorry. I can't play anything...

In this edition of Canon Of Film, we take a look at Bob Clark‘s holiday classic, ‘A Christmas Story‘. For the story behind the genesis of the Canon, you can click here.
‘A Christmas Story’ (1983)
Director: Bob Clark
Screenplay: Jean Shepherd, Leigh Brown & Bob Clark based on the novel ‘In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash,’ by Jean Shepherd
I know there’s a lot of people out there who regret the commercialization of ‘A Christmas Story‘ and sure, it’s totally out-of-hand. There’s a live televised version of ‘A Christmas Story‘ that happened on TV recently, which is one of the more benign examples to occur. I’d be remissed if I didn’t bring up the egregious straight-to-dvd sequel they made a couple years ago to widespread scorn; if for no other reason than the fact that there already was a sequel to ‘A Christmas Story‘ out there!

Quinn’s paranoid delusions land him in hot water this week on Homeland. (Actually, that water looks quite cold.)
At first, he’s humbled, apologizing to Astrid for going Awol last week. But as soon as she heads out for a jog, he starts snooping around the cabin. In a drawer, he finds an envelope containing all of his pills, a wad of cash and a fake passport and IDs ready for him with the name “David Ekley.” Then he searches her car, finding a gun under the seat.

While the box office return on "Tron: Legacy" wasn't stellar — $400 million on a $170 million budget — it was enough to encourage Disney to keep the franchise going. In 2012, Jesse Wigutow ("It Runs In The Family," "The Crow" reboot) was hired to write the script, and Joseph Kosinski was attached to direct. And before the year was out, Garrett Hedlund himself confirmed he would be returning for the followup. And that was the last anyone heard for a couple of years, but it would appear things are ramping up. Local outlet Vancity Buzz is reporting that "Tron 3" will start shooting in Vancouver starting on October 5th, with Kosinski directing and Hedlund as the only confirmed cast member returning (for now). The green light has apparently already been given to the movie, and it hasn't taken long for more chatter to surface. Badass Digest has a source that also confirms the sequel...

In comics news this week, Matt Fraction, one of Marvel’s brightest stars and writer of the award-winning Hawkeye, has been replaced by Charles Soule as the writer of the upcoming new Marvel series, Inhuman, though Joe Madureira remains the series artist. No reasons were given for the switch nor for pushing back the release date from January to April. Inhuman spins off of the Marvel Event Infinity where thousands of new Inhumans appeared after Black Bolt exploded a Terrigen Bomb, with the series looking at the changed lives of the newly transformed Inhumans. Soule is a prolific comics writer, currently helming Superman/Wonder Woman, Swamp Thing and Red Lanterns for DC, Letter 44 for Oni, and Thunderbolts for Marvel along with the new She-Hulk series set to debut in February.
DC are going to end two of their original New 52 line-up titles, Animal Man and The Dark Knight, early next year.

"A Christmas Story" hit movie theaters on November 18, 1983 and the holiday would never be the same.
Now, we can't help but think of being "double-dog dared," leg lamps, and, of course, a Red Ryder Bb gun. The period movie wasn't a hit when it was released, but has became a holiday favorite over the years, even being run in a 24-hour marathon at Christmas time on TBS. It yielded a lesser-seen sequel in 1994, "It Runs in the Family," which recast all the major roles.
In 2012, the film received two honors: Being selected for preservation by the Library of Congress and opening on Broadway as a hit musical. "A Christmas Story: The Musical" received three Tony Award nominations and is returning to the stage this year in Boston, New York's Madison Square Garden and Hartford, Connecticut.

Actor best known as the haughty department store supervisor Captain Peacock in the TV comedy Are You Being Served?
The actor Frank Thornton, who has died aged 92, had a flair for comedy derived from the subtle craftsmanship of classical stage work. However, he will be best remembered for his longstanding characters in two popular BBC television comedy series – the sniffily priggish Captain Peacock in Are You Being Served? and the pompous retired policeman Herbert "Truly" Truelove, in Roy Clarke's Last of the Summer Wine.
Robertson Hare, the great Whitehall farceur, told him: "You'll never do any good until you're 40." And, said Thornton, "he was quite right." There's a new man in the frame for the reboot of The Crow. And that man is James McAvoy...
On paper, a cinematic reboot of The Crow is hardly the kind of project to get people over-excited. Personally though, I look at it the same way as I do the RoboCop reboot: sure, the original is great and it doesn’t necessarily need rebooting, but it’s hard to argue that a new reboot is going to ruin the original any more than the number of shoddy sequels that have been released since.
