    Okay but Not Great

This movie was kind of funny but nothing to be excited about. Just don't see this movie to get scare or anything like that. I do think this is a family movie, the jokes might be a little to over play but it was something that a person will enjoy watching for only one time. Whether the movie is romantic or not, I wouldn't say it is well maybe for half of it anyway. The characters were comedic and funny but they didn't over do it either. So over all, see this if you get the chance but don't expect anything special out of it.

Smile-- nothing to be scared about

Having seen a number of Asian horror films and Asian horror-sillies I wasn't quite sure what to expect with this. Much to my surprise, silly as it is at times, I got hooked.

I've never quite known what to make of Sammi Cheng. But I liked this film even if her character isn't exactly the most likable when you first meet her most unexpectedly at her husband's funeral. In fact, learning that she is the sudden mystery widow of a wealthy man whom you never really see is just one of a number surprises here. And it's also one of the biggest surprises to the dead man's family and former girlfriend who are not just beside themselves with grief, but also horror at the thought of her and her seemingly appalling ways. And that is probably the only real "horror" here-- and that is how it should be.

But, as the title says, there is more here than meets the eye-- like a left eye which inexplicably starts seeing ghosts. This is NOT the great Cantonese flick "The EYE" nor is it meant to be. ANd it isn't a would-be knock off. It is, at its heart, a supernatural romantic comedy-- but if Sammi's vision allows her to see ghosts, love makes her blind.

The primary ghost in question has a distinctly juvenile charm and is at times obnoxious, but the mother-in-law and, most notably, ex-girlfriend may just be the most delightfully scary critters around and always the ones who want to scream. In fact, they are a scream.

This is a light and breezy tale but a surprisingly nice diversion. Like its central character-- Sammi (May) this quirky little film has an equally quirky redeeming quality in the end.

    Sappy Hong Kong ghost comedy.

Hong Kong pop singer Sammi Cheng plays May Ho, a woman who after getting into a car wreck received a six sense in her left eye.

It is indeed a ghost movie, but like much Hong Kong movies with the supernatural theme, comedy is mixed in. In this case, it works a little in the movie as the plot was well-paced and acting was decent. There are also some sappy romantic scenes, which makes you sometimes think you're not watching a ghost movie. There's also quite a bit of gore in the film, which seemed out of place for such a sappy film.

Overall, it's not too bad of a film. It's watchable, has some unpredictable moments, but it doesn't surpass some of the more conventional and intriguing ghost comedies of the 80s and 90s.

romance disguised as a comedic ghost story

This movie is a romance disguised as a comedic ghost story. It's a great chick flick for the lonely girl, whether she be a single girl, or her boyfriend or husband is away. It's hard to have any sympathy for the main character at first, but within 30 minutes you are drawn in. The movie never gets scary. It gets very amusing, often slightly absurd, then very very sweet. Very good character development and subtle plot twists. If you are a sensitive person, this movie can almost bring you to tears. Don't watch this movie with expectations, just let yourself be drawn in and it is a wonderful curl up with a carton of ice cream movie. Great for a Girl's Night In.

    Worth owning

An interesting and hilarious Hong Kong comedy. I expected an extremely silly and quirky horror/comedy based on the apparently mis-translated synopsis. Instead, I got a fun comedy (no horror) with twists, a full robust plot, and some really touching scenes. Clearly built on a lot of Chinese mythology, this movie makes far more sense through-and-through than most "zany" Asian movies. It slightly falls apart at the end, in desperate need of some editing, and the beginning is slow. Overall, it's a wonderful surprise, this movie is highly recommended to all.

Mrs. Tsui: You're a strong girl, Cathy. I didn't expect you to hold up.

May Ho: Grandma, my real name is May.

Susan: Daniel said your name was Cathy.

May Ho: Who knew if he was for real? I made it up.

Mrs. Tsui: Why isn't your father here? Busy in meetings?

May Ho: He could've come, but his sentence just got extended.

Mrs. Tsui: Sentence? Your father's in jail?

May Ho: Yes. For smuggling pigs.

Susan: Isn't he a diamond tycoon?

May Ho: I lied to Daniel.

      Mrs. Tsui: Why?

May Ho: Because he made up stories.

Mrs. Tsui: What did he say?

May Ho: He bragged about himself. Said he represented top fashion labels, went to Stanford, came from a good family, started his own business, and won many honors.

      Mrs. Tsui: That's all true.

May Ho: I didn't know, so I made up stories.

Mrs. Tsui: Did Daniel know the truth before he died?

May Ho: Yes and no. I didn't tell him everything.
