Once again Louie dared visit a topic that TV has otherwise avoided by acknowledging that men use sex toys. In a surprising development for streaming video, Amazon Prime has obtained the rights to HBO shows. Don’t cancel your cable subscription just yet, the deal only covers older HBO shows, plus Girls and Veep episodes that are more than three years old. Still, the news is a pretty big deal. Netflix has long had older episodes of Showtime’s series (and now Hulu has a few shows), but HBO has resisted letting its shows appear anywhere but HBO Go. Game of Thrones and True Detective as well as Sex and the City (which airs in syndication) aren’t included.

Recently, CBS renewed The Big Bang Theory for three seasons, which would take it to season ten. Showrunner Steve Molaro tells The Hollywood Reporter that, for now at least, he’s approaching that tenth season as the final one, which would give the show a Friends-sized run.

Story ideas are pretty malleable. I once presided over/rode herd on/sweated out an 1,100+ page continuity that began as a plot for two 15-pagers. Hemingway is credited with writing a story in only six words. (Go on. Google it. I’ll wait.) I did something a while back, just a bit over 500 words, that, I think, qualifies as a story, though some might disagree, (and because we cherish the First Amendment, if for no other reason, we welcome their dissent.)

Slick magazines, back when my mother was reading them, featured stories complete on one page.

Superman’s origin, which, you might recall, involved an exploding planet – we’re not talking small, here – was originally told on one page and the first Batman story ran a mere six pages, but it was very close to a Shadow novel that must have been in the neighborhood of 45,000 words.

The latest to get a series nod is thriller drama pilot Eye Candy, which has received an order for 10 episodes. The pilot, which will undergo extensive recasting and will be reshot, joins recently picked up coming of age drama Finding Carter, which has a 12-episode order, and new comedy series Faking It and Happyland, both with 8-episode pickups. Eye Candy, from top genre feature producer Jason Blum, stars Victoria Justice as tech genius Lindy who begins to suspect that one of her online suitors might be a deadly cyber stalker. When her friends at the cyber-police uncover a potential serial killer in Manhattan, she works with the hackers to solve the murders while unleashing her own style of justice. MTV is pitting technology against raging hormones with its new dating series, “Are You the One?” Using a unique dating algorithm, 10 couples were matched by their compatibility. Then, the 20 single guys and gals were let loose on each other to see if technology was right. None of them know which person the algorithm has deemed to be their true match. MTV has announced that season four of Awkward will kick off on Tuesday, April 15th, at 10pm with a special hour episode. They've ordered 20 episodes.

The following Tuesday, April 22nd, a new comedy called Faking It will follow Awkward at 10:30. In addition, a new reality competition, House of Food, will debut on Monday, March 31st, at 10pm.

MTV's "Scream" pilot is starting to come together.

Jay Beattie and Dan Dworkin -- the men behind “Revenge" and "Criminal Minds" -- have joined the TV horror project. Susanne Daniels, MTV's president of programming, announced the news at the Television Critics Association Summer 2013 press tour on Friday.

MTV revealed its plans to "reinvent" the hugely successful horror film franchise from Kevin Williamson and Wes Craven at the network's 2013 Upfront Presentation in April. The potential "Scream" series is being developed with production company Dimension Films, and although Williamson isn't actively involved in the pilot (he's already behind Fox's successful serial killer drama "The Following"), Craven is reportedly in talks to direct the pilot.

MTV's proposed "Scream" show would aim for a summer 2014 debut if it receives a series pickup.

Daniels also confirmed the premiere dates for the latter half of "Teen Wolf" Season 3, as well as the fact that "Snooki & Jwoww" Season 3 will debut in October,...

MTV came to its Summer 2013 TCA Press Tour presentation on Friday (July 26) armed with an arsenal of news meant to pump critics and fans up for the future. Namely among them, a feature documentary following Miley Cyrus.

As Susanne Daniels, President of MTV Programming, announced, the one-hour film produced by MTV News and Docs team, will follow Cyrus as she works on her new album, showcasing the transformation the former Disney princess has experienced over the past few years.

Additionally, Daniels revealed that a writing team has been found for the pilot of "Scream," the networks hope to expand on the successful horror film franchise. Jay Beattie and Dan Dworkin ("Criminal Minds," "The Event" and "Revenge) will take on the huge challenge of turning the beloved franchise into a TV series without alienating a vocal fan base. In interview with The New York Magazine, Baz Luhrmann has said he’s “not doing Gatsby right now”.

“I’m not doing Gatsby right now for this reason [that most of his team is in Brooklyn]. Because despite what might be out there, I have made no comment about anything. So until I say it, it’s not said, you know,” said Luhrmann.

"I got the book deal the same time Jim and I split after five years together," she said. "While researching and writing it, I looked inside of myself and began to see what was wrong with me instead of blaming him for everything. I was a girl who pretended. I would say I liked things when I didn't. I knew if I wanted to grow, I needed to make myself happy before I could begin to have an equal relationship with another man."
