The Awful TV Movie You Had No Idea Marvel Boss Kevin Feige Produced
Image
Kevin Feige is one of those nerds whose dream came true. He graduated from the University of Southern California in 1995 and immediately got a gig as the assistant to Lauren Shuler Donner, the executive producer of Hollywood flicks like "Volcano" and "You've Got Mail." Evidently, Feige wouldn't stop talking about his obsession with Marvel Comics, and Donner got him a job working on Bryan Singer's 2000 film "X-Men" as a result. Feige has an associate producer credit on that film, and it went on to be a big hit. Not only that, but it was proof that Marvel superheroes were viable for screen adaptation, and a door started to swing open,...

Marvel's Spider-Man 3 gets three major story updates
Image
There was a time when Insomniac Games was releasing multiple game of the year contenders non-stop, one after another. Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Marvel's Spider-Man 2, and Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered were all published in the span of just three years. Furthermore, Marvel's Wolverine was announced during that period as well. It really seemed like the sky was the limit for the acclaimed developer, but now it's been nearly two years since we've heard anything about it.

Granted, Insomniac had a pretty good reason to stay off the radar. After the infamous 2023 hack, it isn't far-fetched to assume that the team had to go back to square one...

Harry Potter Director Claims His Vision for ‘Fantastic Four’ Was Rejected and Led to His Firing
Image
Chris Columbus, the filmmaker behind family classics like Mrs. Doubtfire, Home Alone, and the first two Harry Potterfilms, has revealed why he was fired from 20th Century Fox’s 2005 Fantastic Four. Speaking on the Fade to Blackpodcast, Columbus explained that his creative push for a more comic-accurate vision was not received well by studio executives — and cost him his job.

“We were in a weird situation. On the first Fantastic Four, I had worked on a script. There were a lot of writers involved. They were about to make a movie and I was producing it. I met with the director and had some ideas. I basically said, ‘Some of...

Chris Columbus Reveals Why He Was Fired From 2005's 'Fantastic Four'
Image
Chris Columbus is a prolific filmmaker with several major blockbusters and box office hits to his name, from Home Alone and Mrs. Doubtfire to the first two Harry Potter films and, more recently, Netflix's The Thursday Murder Club. However, not every project he worked on was smooth sailing. He recently revealed he was attached — and credited as an executive producer — on 2005's Fantastic Four, but claims he "had nothing to do with" the final film because he was abruptly "fired" from the 20th Century Fox production before shooting began.

The 2005 feature, based on the Marvel Comics superhero team created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, was directed by Tim Story...

The 'Weird' Reason Marvel Fired a Harry Potter Director Off The Fantastic Four
Image
Harry Potter director Chris Columbus recently opened up about being fired from making a Fantastic Four movie. He was initially hired by 20th Century Fox to write and direct a film back in 1995.

Appearing on the Fade to Black podcast with Hanna Flint, Columbus revealed why the project didn't work out, sharing the shocking reason he was fired. "We were in a weird situation," he shared. "On the first Fantastic Four, I had worked on a script. There were a lot of writers involved. They were about to make a movie, and I was producing it. I met with the director and had some ideas."

Harry Potter Director Chris Columbus Reveals Why He Was Fired From 2005's Fantastic Four Movie
Image
Chris Columbus has helmed many enduring family blockbusters, including Home Alone, Mrs. Doubtfire, and two instalments of Harry Potter. You can probably see why that would make him a good fit to helm a movie revolving around Marvel's First Family.

The filmmaker was credited as an executive producer on 2005's Fantastic Four, but confirmed in a new interview that he "had nothing to do with it." Columbus intended to direct the Marvel Comics adaptation, but was fired after a meeting with studio executives.

"We were in a weird situation," Columbus said. "On the first 'Fantastic Four,' I had worked on a script. There were a lot of writers involved.

Chris Columbus says he was fired from Fantastic Four for having “too much of an opinion”
Chris Columbus
Chris Columbus, the director of Home Alone and the first two Harry Potter movies, is credited as an executive producer on Fantastic Four and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, but he told the Fade to Black podcast that he “had nothing to do with it.” That wasn’t always the case, as Columbus was meant to produce the movies before 20th Century Fox fired him.

“We were in a weird situation,” Columbus said. “On the first Fantastic Four, I had worked on a script. There were a lot of writers involved. They were about to make a movie and I was producing it. I met with the director and had some ideas.

‘Home Alone’ and ‘Harry Potter’ Director Says ‘I Was Fired’ From 2005’s ‘Fantastic Four’ Movie After Criticizing Concept Art; Studio Said ‘I Had Too Much of an Opinion’

Chris Columbus has directed some of the most enduring blockbusters of all time, from “Mrs. Doubtfire” and the “Home Alone” films to the first two “Harry Potter” movies. But even with those movies under his belt, Columbus still found himself getting booted from 20th Century Fox’s original “Fantastic Four” movie. The director is credited as an executive producer on the movie “but had nothing to do with it,” he recently told the “Fade to Black” podcast.

“We were in a weird situation,” Columbus said. “On the first ‘Fantastic Four,’ I had worked on a script. There were a lot of writers involved. They were about to make a movie and I was producing it. I met with the director and had some ideas. I basically said, ‘Some of this conceptual art should feel more like Jack Kirby, the creator of the Fantastic Four, and should feel more like the Silver Age of Marvel.

J.K. Simmons looks back on his most iconic roles, from ‘Oz’ and ‘Juno’ to ‘Spider-Man’ and ‘Whiplash’

Good things come to those who wait. Just ask J.K. Simmons, who finally scored his first Emmy nomination 40 years after his very first TV role as a bit player in the 1986 TV movie Popeye Doyle, starring Ed O'Neill as the New York cop made famous by Gene Hackman; 30 years after his breakout part as one of the jailbirds housed in the titular penitentiary of HBO's landmark prison drama Oz; and 10 years after winning an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor as a tough-as-nails drum instructor in Damien Chazelle's Whiplash.

And the series that broke that decades-long waiting game? Season 3 of Die Hart — the Quibi-turned-Roku Hollywood satire fronted by Kevin Hart.

The early 2000s saw the reimagination of Stan Lee and Steve Ditko's amazing fantasy of Spider-Man, with a back-to-the-beginning retelling that reintroduced the hero to younger audiences. Wait, do you think I'm talking about the Sam Raimi-directed, Tobey Maguire-starring "Spider-Man" movies? Two years before "Spider-Man" swung into theaters, writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Mark Bagley debuted the comic reboot "Ultimate Spider-Man." "Ultimate" brought Spider-Man into the 21st century. For millennial nerds, the definitive Spider-Man is either Raimi's or Bendis'.

The "Spider-Man" movie harkens back to the tone of Lee/Ditko comics. However, it also...

Spider-Man Villains Ranked: From Legendary Menace to… Meh

You can’t talk about Spider-Man without talking about his villains. Sure, Peter Parker is the friendly neighborhood do-gooder, but without psychos in armor, mad scientists with questionable safety protocols, and alien goo with abandonment issues, he’s basically just a bug-themed mall cop. And boy, have the movies given us a buffet of villains. Some legendary, some just okay, and some you only remember because you caught a “Worst Spider-Man Villains” compilation at 2 a.m.

Let’s get this out of the way: the Sam Raimi trilogy still holds the crown. That’s the blueprint. That’s the Og. Those villains didn’t just show up to cause trouble...

Russell Crowe made his Marvel debut two years ago as Zeus in Thor: Love and Thunder, but last year he starred in another Marvel-adjacent movie that’s returning to streaming charts. Crowe stars alongside Aaron-Taylor Johnson (Bullet Train) and Fred Hechinger (Gladiator II) in Kraven the Hunter, the Sony Marvel movie telling the origin story of the popular Spider-Man villain who also headlined the 2023 Game of the Year contender, Spider-Man 2 on PS5. Kraven the Hunter is currently streaming on Netflix in America, but globally, the film has surged into Google’s VOD top 10 in several countries, such as Argentina, Greece, and Italy. Kraven was not well-received by critics, who gave the film a meager 15% on Rotten Tomatoes. However, the audience-driven Popcornmeter came to rest at a much more respectable 72%, albeit based on less than 3,000 reviews.

Still, modest audience reviews didn’t save Kraven the Hunter from a disastrous box office performance.

Spider-Man 4 Can Give Tom Holland Darker Story, But Will It Match Andrew Garfield’s 11-Year Old Masterpiece?
Image
Tom Holland’s Spider-Man 4 will indeed be a dark tale. The world has forgotten Peter Parker, and he is without friends and his Aunt May. Grieving and alone, Peter Parker will also be joined by Jon Bernthal’s Punisher in the upcoming movie (and possibly Venom?).

This will add a vengeance storyline to Peter Parker, who is already angry at the world for not remembering him. Well, to say that Spider-Man 4 would be a depressing watch would be an understatement. However, it still won’t be able to compete with Andrew Garfield’s 11-year-old masterpiece of a movie that traumatized a generation.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which starred Garfield in the lead role of Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man, was released in 2014, and it is…the most depressing Spider-Man movie to date.

Superman Digital Release: 15 DC Movies It Overthrew at the Box Office Prove James Gunn Isn’t a Failure

James Gunn’s Superman was released on digital and PVOD on August 15, a month after the film’s theatrical release. Despite it not being a billion-dollar hit, it is still a major success, making fans wonder why the film was coming out so early. Gunn clarifies that it was due to Peacemaker season 2’s release (via Variety).

The film did great at the box office, with its worldwide gross at the time of writing being $586 million (via The Numbers). While not a huge hit like The Dark Knight trilogy or even Man of Steel, Gunn’s Dcu film is not a failure, as it has fared much better than a whole bunch of DC adaptations. Gunn’s Superman has surpassed 15 DC movies that were released since 2000, in terms of box office performance.

Smallville Creators Open Up On The Iron Man Movie They Worked On: "Tom Cruise Was Interested"
Image
Smallville and Wednesday creators Al Gough and Miles Millar have revealed that they worked on an Iron Man script for Marvel Studios years before Robert Downey Jr. suited up as the Armored Avenger in Jon Favreau's 2008 movie.

Talking to Josh Horowitz, the filmmakers reflected on their time working on the version of Iron Man that Marvel Studios was developing in the mid-2000s. They also confirmed that this was the iteration that Mission: Impossible star Tom Cruise was circling.

"[Marvel Studios founder] Avi Arad had come to us after [we wrote the story on] Spider-Man 2," Gough explained, prompting Millar to add, "After Spider-Man 2, they say, 'guys, we've got another crown jewel – which is Iron Man."

Noting that they visited Marvel Studios' modest offices in Arad's Toy Biz company, Gough said, "To be honest with you, I hadn't heard of Iron Man. Avi said, 'Perfect. Here's what he is: he's a billionaire who sells weapons,...

Alan Tudyk Says He Was Removed From ‘I, Robot’s Press Materials After Testing Higher Than Will Smith In Early Screenings: “I Was Very Upset”

Alan Tudyk reflected on his career and revealed that there’s a reason why not many people know he played Sonny in the 2004 sci-fi action film I, Robot.

He continued, “I was so shocked, I was like, ‘But wait, nobody’s going to know that I [play the robot].'”

Tudyk voiced Sonny the robot and was motion-captured for the CGI character, saying that he “put a lot into” his performance, adding, “At the time,...

Smallville Showrunners Address Superman "Immigrant" Backlash; Reveal Black Cat Was Almost In Spider-man 2
Image
Ahead of Superman's release in theaters last month, James Gunn described the movie's lead as "the story of America." He then elaborated on that point, saying, "An immigrant that came from other places and populated the country, but for me it is mostly a story that says basic human kindness is a value and is something we have lost."

The filmmaker's comments were taken out of context and quickly weaponised against the Dcu reboot (even Fox News and newly minted Ice agent Dean Cain got in on the action).

Talking to Josh Horowitz about Wednesday season 2, Smallville creators and showrunners Al Gough and Miles Millar confirmed that they've yet to watch Superman. However, they're fully in agreement with Gunn and likened his vision to an early episode of the popular DC TV series, where they too faced pushback for exploring Clark Kent's immigrant status.

‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ Global Box Office Stomps Past Action Goat With 98% Rotten Tomatoes Score
Image
Despite having debuted on PVOD platforms sooner than expected, Universal’s Jurassic World Rebirth retained a spot on the top 10 charts at the box office. The movie has virtually no chance of passing the coveted $1 billion mark worldwide any more, especially now that it’s available to watch at home and is being booted out of theaters. But it managed to pass what will likely be its final global box office milestone in its sixth weekend, and, in doing so, overtook a handful of past hits. Directed by Gareth Edwards, Rebirth is the seventh installment of the landmark Jurassic Park franchise, which began in the 1990s with Steven Spielberg’s modern classic first film.

With around $325 million domestically and another $473 million from overseas markets, Rebirth’s running global haul now stands at $800 million. The movie was produced on a reported budget of $180 million, which is way lower than the near-record...

Now That They’ve Relaunched, How Will DC and Marvel Avoid the Same Old Downward Spiral?
Image
If superhero fatigue is a trend that became all too real, the making of the movies that brought it on might be likened to an addiction. The studios that produced those films got hooked on the idea that comic-book movies would be a limitless cash cow. And so they started to make them without limits, jacking up the budgets, the thorny interconnectedness of the characters, and the sheer volume of films they greenlit, each one promising — in theory — to be the box-office equivalent of Christmas Day. But it didn’t work out that way. For audiences, more turned out to be less. After a while, the sheer overkill of comic-book cinema began to look like it might kill the golden goose.

This summer, though, the release of two vital, game-changing superhero movies created a kind of Christmas in July. With “Superman” and “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” DC and Marvel,...

Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the fourth film starring Tom Holland as the titular web-slinging superhero, is slated for a theatrical release on July 31, 2026. After a string of underperforming titles like Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts* (The Fantastic Four: First Steps is still playing in theaters), all eyes will now be on the next Spider-Man movie to end the box office jinx and deliver a major blockbuster for Marvel.

As of now, there are no specific plot details about Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but a new behind-the-scenes set photo of Tom Holland has got fans speculating about the film’s storyline. According to a report by Collider, the 29-year-old English actor was seen wearing a shirt from Delmar’s Deli. For the unversed, it is a grocery store in...

How to watch the Spider-Man movies in order (including the Avengers films)
Image
He does whatever a Spider can and he does it extremely well. The webslinger known as Spider-Man has been a staple of Marvel Comics since 1960, thrilling readers all over the world with his exceptional talents, outlandish adventures, and genuinely lovable personality. Peter Parker is a legend among legends and that enduring appeal has seen him transcend his genre to become one of the most prominent movie characters of all time, too.

There have been many Spider-Man movies through the years, with multiple actors to play the wall-crawler to go along with them. For years, he existed as a cinematic titan all on his own, with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield portraying him in their respective movie series; now, Tom Holland has taken over the role for the past decade, bringing the character to the Marvel Cinematic Universe to cross him over with The Avengers.

With a new MCU trilogy kicking...

'Lost' Alum Addresses Online Chatter of Him Playing ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s Villain
Image
The internet is full of fan videos showing Tom Holland filming Spider-Man: Brand New Day in Glasgow. The web-slinger’s next appearance was highly anticipated by the fans especially after the events of No Way Home. Marvel Studios isn’t shying away from flaunting Holland’s return as we got the first look at the actor in a new costume recently, a perfect way to avoid spoilers and create hype as Destin Daniel Cretton takes a more practical filming approach.

As for the villain of the next installment, everything is tightly under wraps, but fans have been long-itching to see Mister Negative in the MCU and have even been fan-casting Lost star Daniel Dae Kim in the role. And Kim has heard the fans, in a new interview with ScreenRant, the actor discussed his fan-casting and revealed that he’d be open to taking up the “interesting” role. He said,...

‘Wednesday’ Showrunners Preview Season 2: A Budget Bump, Pithy One-Liners, and Casting a Magician as Thing
Image
Alfred Gough and Miles Millar have been writing together ever since they met at USC’s Peter Stark producing program in the early ’90s and sold their first script to New Line Cinema.

After countless movies and TV series, this week they premiere Season 2 of their popular series “Wednesday,” executive-produced by Tim Burton, on Netflix. Having sampled the first four episodes, I can attest that Season 2 is even more delicious than Season 1.

For one thing, for budget reasons, the showrunners had to trim some Season 1 subplots, thus relying more heavily on young star Jenna Ortega, now age 22, in the title role of Addams daughter Wednesday, an amateur supernatural detective in her first year at outsider school Nevermore Academy. This time around, with Netflix loosening the purse strings, the series expands with new characters including eager-to-please Nevermore Principal Dort (Steve Buscemi) and Grandmama Hester Frump (Joanna Lumley), while giving more time...

Tom Holland Suits Up in Stunning 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' Teaser
Image
It’s official: Peter Parker’s newest threads are turning heads. Following a teaser yesterday, Tom Holland took to social media today to give fans a full look at his brand-new Spider-Man suit — and the response has been pure web-slinging euphoria. The fresh design, crafted for Marvel Studios’ upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day, combines classic elements with modern updates, and fans have wasted no time showering it with superlatives.

One Redditor gushed, “The suit looks fantastic.” Another added, “One could say it looks spectacular,” while others chimed in with comments like “Superior,” “Ultimate,” “Sensational,” and — perhaps the most fitting — “Amazing.” Some fans pointed out its similarities to previous versions, calling it “the final swing suit meets the Tasm 2 suit,” referencing The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Others praised the deeper blue hue, the raised webbing, and the enlarged spider logo. “It honestly feels as if Peter 1 was influenced by Peter 2 and...

'We Wonnnnnn': Spider-Man Fans Lose Their Minds Over Reported Inclusion of Villain in Brand New Day
Image
The odds of Mister Negative appearing in Spider-Man: Brand New Day just got a lot better. Marvel fans are losing their collective minds over a new set photo that seems to confirm the inclusion of the highly requested Spider-Man villain in the superhero sequel.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day began filming today, Aug. 1, in Glasgow, Scotland, under the working title Blue Oasis. The crew is currently prepping the set for a scene that will reportedly see Tom Holland's Spider-Man and Jon Bernthal's Punisher fighting over an armored vehicle. While seeing the two Marvel Cinematic Universe fan favorites fighting is exciting in itself, it's the tank that actually has fans ecstatic, as the Inner Demons logo has been spotted on the side of the armored vehicle. The Inner Demons are a gang run by the ruthless crime lord Mister Negative, a villain that fans have long wanted to see appear in a Spider-Man movie.

Image
Sony Pictures has just released a short, 9-second teaser of the new Spider-Man costume for “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” for Spider-Man Day, which is apparently a thing.

The clip is very short, but it does give a bit of a glimpse into the costume that many were waiting to see. It does seem to harken back to Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man suit.

The Best Lego Marvel Set of 2025 Has 1 Major Flaw
Image
The standout set of Lego Marvel's 2025 wave is one of the best releases in years, despite one glaring issue. The comic book side of Lego has its fair share of misses this year, such as the disappointing Avengers: Endgame final battle set. Nevertheless, there have been a few bright spots from Marvel's blocky portfolio, some of which have avoided the typical MCU source material.

Lego 76321: Spider-Man vs. Doc Ock Subway Train Scene is the perfect example and is arguably the best Marvel set of the year because of it. Adapting an iconic scene from Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 2, where Tobey Maguire's web-slinger is forced to stop a subway trolley from barrelling off its tracks, the set captures the train and the surrounding carnage magnificently. Despite this, something is missing from the build that holds it back.

Marvel Releases Stunning New Tobey Maguire Spider-Man Poster Amid MCU Return Rumors
Image
Sony Pictures and Marvel officially revealed a brand-new poster highlighting Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man four years after his MCU debut and return in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Maguire first appeared as Marvel's resident web-slinger in 2002's Spider-Man, fighting his arch-nemesis, Green Goblin, and saving many lives in New York. The first movie's success led to two more sequels: 2004's Spider-Man 2 and 2007's Spider-Man 3.

While his journey as Spider-Man ended in 2007, a fourth movie that would've brought back Maguire in the titular Marvel role almost happened, but it was ultimately canceled after director Sam Raimi struggled to develop a strong story. Despite Spider-Man 4 not happening, Maguire made a triumphant return alongside Andrew Garfield's version of the character to help Tom Holland's Spider-Man in Spider-Man: No Way Home - a comeback still being celebrated today.

Marvel and Sony Pictures released an incredible new poster featuring Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man,...

How Many Wednesday Seasons There Will Be After The Show’s Renewal Addressed By Creator
Image
The showrunner behind Wednesdayaddressed the show's future, sharing the plan for future seasons. Fans are currently awaiting the premiere of Wednesday season 2, which is set to debut in two parts starting in August 2025. The series is developed for television by veteran screenwriting duo Miles Millar and Alfred Gough.

Speaking with THR, Miles Millar shared his plans for Wednesday's future, following the recent preemptive season 3 renewal, saying, "We’ll take as many seasons as Netflix wants to give us." He goes into his experience working on Smallville, sharing how the ten-season superhero show has influenced his approach to long-term planning. Read his quote below:

“We’ll take as many seasons as Netflix wants to give us because we made a mistake with Smallville at one point. We had a five-year plan, and then the show went on for 10 years. So we’re not going to get out in front of that.

‘Wednesday’ Creators: “Nobody’s Expectations for Season 2 Are Higher Than Ours”
Image
“We never thought that the biggest hit of our career would come 30 years in,” marvels Alfred Gough, one half of the creator and showrunner team behind Netflix’s biggest English-language hit series, Wednesday.

Along with his longtime writing partner Miles Millar, the duo have been responsible for a slew of genre hits over the years, ranging from 2000’s Shanghai Noon, to 2004’s influential superhero smash Spider-Man 2, to The CW’s Smallville (all 217 episodes of it!), to 2015’s AMC cult favorite Into the Badlands.

But its their recent collaborations with director Tim Burton and Jenna Ortega — the director and star of Wednesday and last fall’s box office hit Warner Bros. sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice — have given the duo a late-career hot streak.

While Burton and Ortega get plenty of press attention (including from us — see yesterday’s cover story interview with the duo), it’s perhaps easy to overlook that...

This One Mechanic in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Is Reason Enough for Insomniac to Make a Superman Game
Image
Throughout the years, Insomniac Games has proved itself as one of the best superhero game developers, with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 being their peak experience. The in-game mechanics, like web-swinging, high-jumps, air-tricks, etc., made the fans connect with the friendly neighborhood on a whole new level. Apart from this, the most beloved feature from the game, the wind tunnel, is also praised to date. Some fans even think that Insomniac should take inspiration from the wind tunnel and create a Superman game.

For the Man of Steel, flying is a big part of his routine so that he can traverse through the city and do the needful. In Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, both Miles and Peter can do this by gliding through the wind tunnels. Frankly, it would not be a stretch to envision Insomniac creating a Superman game by using their years of experience in this genre.

Alas, it...

Spider-Man 2.1: Tobey Maguire’s Extended Cut Gets First Poster & 2025 Release
Image
Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man 2.1 extended cut received its first official poster and 2025 release as part of a recent news blast. Maguire played the iconic wall-crawler from 2002 to 2007, preceding both Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland as Marvel's big-screen Spidey. While fans have loved revisiting Sam Raimi's Maguire-led trilogy of Spider-Man films, one particular project from that era has evaded a large swath of the Spider-Man faithful for nearly 20 years.

Spider-Man 2.1 is an extended version of 2004's Spider-Man 2 that was released as part of a special DVD in 2007, which fans will finally be able to enjoy in theaters later this year. With speculation about Maguire's potential future in the Marvel role (in projects like Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Secret Wars), audiences are amped to see this long-lost special cut on the big screen for the first time.

The first official poster for Spider-Man 2.1's special theatrical release has been revealed,...
