In her 30 years at the Atelier Advertising agency, Monica (Lauren Graham) has climbed the ladder of success. As we meet her, she’s CEO, she’s winning industry awards and she’s working on a commercial for Boppin’ Burgers to run during the Super Bowl. She’s even throwing a party at the office for the launch of a new campaign for Vibezz headphones! As everyone gathers to watch it air on TV, Monica seems unaware of its deficits. Playing into stereotypes — a Black guy breakdancing to hip-hop; a monk listening to vaguely Eastern New Age music — is bad; closing the spot with the slogan “All Vibezz Matter” is much worse. The office’s social media team, all young twentysomethings, probably would have tried to stop this ad from getting to air if they’d been involved in the creative process, but they weren’t, which is a mistake the...

Brooklyn Beckham doesn't need any help impressing the ladies -- he's a Beckham -- but his new vintage ride doesn't hurt. David and Victoria's eldest took two female friends for a spin in his super cool Swb series 3 Land Rover Wednesday afternoon in London. His pops has the same ride but in black, so apple doesn't fall far from the tree. The real deal though -- the kid's last name's Beckham. He could be showing off his '72 Pinto,...

Patrick Boivin has created a minute-long short film called The Real Deal, which depicts a five-year-old kid playing with Transformers and the toys coming to life before his eyes. It's a cool (if quick) look into the imagination of a child, and this ought to take many of you back to the days of childhood and a time when you didn't have a care in the world beyond who won the elaborate battles you were constructing in your own head.

It was a triumphant return to European football for Manchester United on Tuesday as they survived an early scare to defeat Club Brugge 3-1 in the first leg of the 3rd round qualifier.
Marouane Fellaini popped up with a very late header to seal the win and with it Old Trafford breathed a collective sigh of relief.
To take a two-goal lead over to Belgium certainly helps, with the away goal looming over their heads.
Club Brugge will feel slightly hard done by, as Fellaini’s goal went in a minute after the injury time allotted. It looked as if the referee was going to blow his whistle but paused as Memphis whipped in the cross, almost as if he didn’t want to face the backlash had he not allowed the attack to happen. That late, late goal was so typical of United and so enjoyable...

Many people spend years dreaming of their perfect wedding, imagining every detail, and carefully refining each quality. This impulse is easy to understand, as a wedding ideally represents the culmination of one’s efforts to find that perfect someone, and an opportunity to celebrate that love with friends and family.
Unsurprisingly, considering how the act often contains a dizzying level of emotion, not to mention the universality it holds in human society, weddings have been the fodder for a number of different films. The subject even runs like a refrain throughout the careers of certain actors, like Julia Roberts and Dermot Mulroney. Now, the range and style in which these weddings have been portrayed is vast, with some films viewing the celebration through rose-colored glasses, while others looking at it as a hurdle or source of conflict.
This list will focus on the second type of cinematic wedding,...

Hot off a controversial split decision at Ufc Fight Night 42, Diego Sanchez has offered Ross Pearson a rematch.
Saturday’s 3-round lightweight bout between the two was yet another example of questionable judging in the Mma world. Calls for reform have gone unanswered for years in the Mma community; the sport uses the 10-point must system adopted from boxing, and far too often, judges selected by local athletic commissions struggle to apply the scoring system to Mma bouts, or worse, are not familiar enough with the sport to be Mma judges in the first place.
Thus while Sanchez walked away with the win Saturday, most fans and media members saw the bout in favor of Ross “The Real Deal” Pearson – as did one judge, who scored it 30-27 for the Real Deal. A second judge scored the bout 29-28 Sanchez, and a third, straining all credibility, gave a 30-27 to Sanchez.

Sky has won a High Court case after being accused of plagiarism with its show Must Be the Music.
Waif Productions co-founders Brian Wade and Geraldine Perry had accused the broadcaster of stealing their idea for the 2010 show, which saw contestants battling it out with original songs.
The duo alleged that Must Be the Music ripped off their format The Real Deal, which would see contestants performing original songs for a panel of songwriters, with the songs available to download after each episode.
However, Broadcast reports that Mr Justice Birss found in favour of Sky.
"Sky's evidence was cogent and taken as a whole presented a clear and persuasive picture," he said. "I find that Must Be the Music was created entirely independently of The Real Deal."
Meanwhile, a Sky spokesperson said: "We are pleased that the court has found that Must Be the Music was independently created, as we have maintained throughout.

Mohun Biswas is you. When you finish reading the last line of V. S. Naipaul's novel A House for Mr. Biswas, you will feel like a part of your body -- your arm maybe, possibly your leg -- has been removed. Lopped off. Severed. The presence of Mr. Biswas, this ornery, feisty, mean, arrogant, flawed man will have so completely taken you over, you will not be the same person ever again. You will be you plus Biswas.
The magic of Naipaul's long novel is that it has life in it. You may not be of Indian descent. You may not be living in Trinidad during the time of English colonialism. You may not be a man. But as soon as you start reading this book, you will be.
On and on its words flow, for hundreds and hundreds of pages. But the intensity does not flag for one comma.
