The plans for Team England were originally going to be composed of Big Bear from Australia, Billy Kane from Great Britain, and King from France. But at the time, the developers who had just finished Ryûko no ken 2 (1994) clamored for Yuri Sakazaki to be playable on the roster of teams, she replaces Billy Kane who would later team up with fellow Art of Fighting 2 newcomer Eiji Kisaragi in The King of Fighters '95, while Big Bear on the other hand is replaced by both a more popular Fatal Fury 2 newcomer Mai Shiranui, as well as another original newcomer named Brian Battler who is also football-themed.

Alternate versions
The US home version was censored. All blood/bleeding was removed and Mai's "animated" breasts were fixed into place. These changes were not permanent and could be undone with a simple code.
