Marvel officially kills off Thor with a heartbreaking twist
Image
The death of Thor has been a long time coming. It was prophesied in Donny Cates’ Thor thanks to the Black Winter. However, this possible future showed him lying helpless as Thanos smiles with a black Infinity Gauntlet and Mjolnir with the Infinity Stone in each hand. Meanwhile, behind the Mad Titan are zombie superheroes.

In Al Ewing’s Immortal Thor, a new prophecy came. The All-Father of Asgard would die at the hands of his sibling, Loki. Issue No. 24 showed that the latter was correct, but not the end of Odinson’s tale. As Immortal Thor says in every issue, would you know more?

‘I was taken with the idea of a spy show’: How ‘Talamasca: The Secret Order’ showrunners expand Anne Rice’s Immortal Universe in new AMC series
Image
Anne Rice's Immortal Universe is expanding this fall when Talamasca: The Secret Order debuts on AMC.

This week, the network hosted an intimate early screening of the first episode, followed by a Q&a with showrunners Mark Lafferty and John Lee Hancock (who also directs the pilot). The series, slated to premiere in October, is set within the richly detailed world Rice created, though it deviates from being a direct adaptation of any singular book. Instead, it explores the mysterious Talamasca organization — a recurring but enigmatic presence in Rice’s novels.

Hancock, best known for dramas like The Blind Side, Saving Mr. Banks, and The Little Things, admits he didn't know much about the Immortal Universe when he was approached for the project. "My first thought was that [they] had probably called the wrong number and needed a different writer," he joked. "At that point, I'd only read Interview With the Vampire,...

Marvel Confirms Thor's New Love Interest, And It's Going To Change His Story Forever
Image
Marvel’s Thoris about to enter a bold new era, dealing with an entirely new paradigm as the God of Thunder finds himself reborn as a mortal on Earth, and the author behind this striking shift for the classic hero just teased that “a potential new love interest” will have a role to play in his upcoming storyline.

In an interview with Comicbook.com, author Al Ewing played his cards mostly close to the vest when it comes to the upcoming Thor #1, which spins out of the concluding issue of his Immortal Thor run.

According to Ewing, he will be able to more freely discuss the next “act” of his epic Thor saga once Immortal Thor #25 is released, but before then, he was willing to drop a few hints, including the mention of a love story for the character, leaving readers little to speculate on, but lots to get excited about.

Iron Fist: Finn Jones Is Right — He Deserves Another Shot At Playing Danny Rand
Image
What once seemed impossible is now a reality. Daredevil: Born Again has made Netflix's Marvel series MCU canon. The show's first season brought back Jon Bernthal's Punisher, and featured an Easter egg referencing Luke Cage. Season 2 is taking things one step further by bringing back Krysten Ritter as everyone's favorite Pi, Jessica Jones. With that exciting return lined up, there's been speculation about Mike Colter's Luke Cage and Finn Jones' Iron Fist also making their presence felt in Born Again's second chapter.

Though Colter's Luke Cage was generally well-received, Jones' Danny Rand was another story. His take on the character failed to resonate with audiences, and his show didn't fare much better, either, often considered the weakest entry in Netflix's ambitious slate of Marvel series. Still, despite such struggles, Jones is eager to return to the role. Speaking at a convention in early 2025, the actor asked...

Thor 5 Update: James Gunn Could Save Taika Waititi’s Sinking Superhero Career After Reported MCU Shakeup
Image
Taika Waititi took the helm for Thor: Love and Thunder (Thor 4). While the film maintained his signature comedic touch, he later admitted that it might have leaned too heavily into humor. Waititi, known for his playful and irreverent style, aimed to inject new life into the Thor franchise after the success of Thor: Ragnarok.

He, however, acknowledged that the final product of Thor 4 was a bit too over-the-top and lacked some of the emotional depth that fans expected. Despite the mixed reactions, Waititi seems focused on moving forward with fresh projects, leaving his time with Thor as a fun and experimental chapter in his career.

Taika Waititi was criticized for Thor 4

Taika Waititi, the director of Thor: Love and Thunder, faced significant criticism for the film’s tone and direction. While Thor: Ragnarok was praised for its humor and fresh take on the God of Thunder, Thor 4 had several fallouts.

The Death of Thor Arrives, Delivering The One Twist We All Should've Seen Coming
Image
Warning! Massive spoilers for Immortal Thor #24 ahead!

Marvel has been teasing Thor’s death for months, and it has finally happened, in what turned out to be simultaneously the most shocking and most obvious way imaginable, as the Asgardian God of Thunder is literally stabbed in the back by Loki, the trickster and storyteller who has been guiding the current Immortal Thor run from the very beginning.

Immortal Thor #24, written by Al Ewing, with art by Jan Bazaldua, is the penultimate issue of the series, which has taken Thor on a cosmic journey to confront the Elder Gods, primordial beings who pre-date the rise of the Asgardians and modern Marvel mythology.

Despite its title, the book has hinted repeatedly over the last several years that its story would end with Thor meeting his demise, something Marvel continued to emphasize in its marketing for the final stretch of issues. Now, it has officially happened,...

Interview With The Vampire Season 3 Gets Exciting Production Update 1 Year After Season 2 Finale
Image
One year after Interview with the Vampire season 2 brought Louis' (Jacob Anderson) story to a close, AMC has revealed when season 3 will begin production and bring Lestat's (Sam Reid) tale to screens. The AMC series that first began in 2022 adapted the first of Anne Rice's gothic horror novels, as Louis recollected his experience in early 20th-century New Orleans, and his transformation into a blood-sucking creature of the night. Interview with the Vampire seasons 1 and 2 explored Louis's love with Lestat, his time with Claudia (Bailey Bass and Delainey Hayles), and his fateful meeting with Armand (Assad Zaman) in Paris.

During a recent panel hosted by AMC Networks at Atx TV Festival, Interview With The Vampire showrunner Rollin Jones shed some light on the current status of season 3. While the panel was focused on AMC's wider Anne Rice's Immortal Universe franchise, Jones confirmed that season 3 will begin filming in Toronto,...

Marvel Rivals is getting its next big update tomorrow, and it's one that is exciting fans a great deal. Marvel Rivals Season 2 brought several character and system changes, but the game has consistently gotten updates in between major seasonal content. While this new update only has a couple of balance changes, it does contain several features that fans have been asking for since the hero shooter's launch back in December 2024, but the lack of major balance changes also brings some concern from hardcore players.

According to the official patch notes for Marvel Rivals, Version 20250522 will go live tomorrow, and the update will not require any server downtime. The update will include new skins for Adam Warlock and Scarlet Witch, an extension to the Hellfire Gala: Moments event, a huge new character voice audio setting, and some major quality-of-life improvements, like being able to use up to five sprays at once,...

Marvel Comics Teases A Shocking New Status Quo For Thor In Upcoming Relaunch: "A Legend Walks Among Us"
Image
Thor's impending demise in the pages of Al Ewing's Immortal Thor has been teased for months. Now, we have the first detail about his inevitable rebirth.

Following the release of Immortal Thor #25 in July, Ewing will launch a new run of Thor alongside artist Pasqual Ferry, who makes a thunderous return to the character following his acclaimed work during Matt Fraction's run in the 2010s.

It's said that the series will deliver a major shift in Ewing's overall Thor narrative, with this newly launched series setting up a captivating new status quo for the God of Thunder, unlike any in his 60+ year history. For now, we only have a brief description to go by, but it sounds like the world has forgotten the Asgardian, with the hero once again considered a myth by the world.

After hinting at the upcoming death of Thorfor months, Marvel Comics has announced a major new era for its Thorongoing series, which will drop the Immortal from its title and relaunch at issue #1 this summer, in the next chapter of the sweeping cosmic saga that author Al Ewing has been behind for the character over the past several years.

5 Escapist Books to Help You Ignore the Fact That the Country’s on Fire

At times of political and cultural upset, literature has often been a way for society to process, understand, and push back against unethical policies or administrations. Many of the most well known books are direct political statements, like Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale, Octavia Butler’s Kindred, and Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird. These works easily break down some of the biggest political challenges Americans faced at the time of their publication. Books have power — and sharp authors aren’t afraid to wield that. Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches Renewed for a Third Season
Image
AMC Networks today announced the renewal of Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches for a third season to be set in Salem, Massachusetts. Emmy Award-winning producer and writer Thomas Schnauz joins as co-showrunner with Esta Spalding on season three.

Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches Season 3 will dive deeper into the mythology of witchcraft, introduce new ‘spellbound’ families, and feature some of the historical happenings of Salem, the infamous town of witch trials and folklore.

The second series in AMC Networks’ Anne Rice Immortal Universe, Mayfair Witches season two concluded on March 2 and remains among the top series on AMC+ in both viewership and acquisition.

The series stars Alexandra Daddario, Harry Hamlin, Tongayi Chirisa, and Alyssa Jirrels, among others.

“The drama and complexities of the Mayfair family continue to be an intriguing and enchanting source of story, and expanding that story against the backdrop of Salem, a historical haven of witchcraft, is...

‘Mayfair Witches’ Season 3 Theories: What Will The Talamasca Do With The Taltos Children?
Image
Mayfair Witches strays quite far from the books both in terms of the story and the characters, so it’s obvious that fans of Anne Rice’s “The lives of the Mayfair Witches” aren’t too fond of the show. But to be fair, there’s more to the general dismissal of Esta Spalding’s show as a worthy addition to Immortal Universe than just the liberties it takes with the source material. Personally, I have a wildly varying opinion on the show depending on which episode I’ve seen last. And since Mayfair Witches goes from 0 to 100 within the matter of a single episode, it’s not the easiest thing to stick to the show. But now that the sophomore season has drawn to a close, I’ve got to admit that I’m pretty excited to see where the story will go should they greenlight a 3rd season.

It's official: DC is rebooting Batman again (and he has an edgy new look)
Image
DC Comics knows where its bread is buttered. As much as we, the comic book readers, enjoy stories from many characters, a company has to stay aware of their money makers. In DC's case, it’s the World’s Greatest Detective, Batman.

Over the last decade, a lot of writers have done a fantastic job on Batman. James Tynion IV (Something is Killing the Children), Tom King (Wonder Woman), Joshua Williamson (Green Arrow), and Chip Zdarsky (Sex Criminals) have all created memorable stories starring the Dark Knight. With them have come artists like Jorge Molina (A-Force) and Mikel Janín (Detective Comics) who have helped bring the tales to life. Now, a new team steps forward to take on that challenge, as legendary writer Matt Fraction and returning Batman artist Jorge Jiménez are collaborating on Batman No. 1.

Captain America 4 Is Hulk-Smashing the Box Office, But It Also Reveals Marvel Studios' Biggest Wasted Opportunity

Quick LinksThe MCU Hasn't Adapted The Hulk's Best StoriesThe Hulk Could Help Save the MCUCaptain America 4 Had No Confidence in Sam Wilson

Captain America: Brave New Worldis the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe movie, and it signals a return to consistent releases following the sole theatrical movie release of Deadpool & Wolverine in 2024. Featuring Sam Wilson as the new Captain America, the movie pits him against two foes who are usually reserved for another hero. This only cements how badly Marvel has handled the character in question and how much more popular the MCU might be if this weren't the case.

The Hulk remains one of the biggest individual Marvel brands, but he's sadly been mishandled and forgotten in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This is despite the fact that there are still several great Hulk stories to use, with his villains now being used to bolster another character entirely. As a result,...

AMC's Immortal Universe just keeps getting bigger and bolder, with the upcoming series The Talamasca set to air sometime this year and already boasting previous connections to other shows. Just last week, Mayfair Witches Season 2 dropped its third episode, “Cover the Mirrors,” which sees a surprise cameo from someone who Interview with the Vampire fans may remember seeing before. These two shows, while adapted from different book series by the late Anne Rice, are becoming increasingly intertwined, so crossovers are bound to happen at some point. A Complete Guide to The Hulks' Many Powers And Why Each One Matters

While every Hulk is born through exposure to extreme amounts of gamma radiation, not every Hulk ends up with the same powers.

In addition to their shared immortality, these avatars of the One-Below-All are each bestowed unique gifts of destruction. While gamma mutates’ may possess many different infernal blessings, fortunately, these powers can be categorized into more specific classifications.

These powersets are certainly open to alterations depending on the story and writer, but overall consistency is kept in mind. Sure, every Hulk is prone to some mindless smashing; Many gained the propensity after absorbing Bruce Banner’s runoff gamma energy. But what we’re talking about is what makes them different.

Emboldened by its user’s gamma physiology, each power is designed to reap different types of destruction. Remember, on the cosmic scale, Hulks aren’t accidentally made, they are avatars of the One-Below-All’s destructive nature. These profane gifts...

Where To Watch Mary And Max Online — Is It Streaming For Free?

7 new fantasy shows we're most excited about in 2025
Image
The fantasy television genre has ebbed and flowed over the years; recently it seems like there's been more of an interest in sci-fi and horror than the more magical side of speculative fiction. Even so, it's hard to deny the cultural impact of recent fantasy series like Arcane and Agatha All Along. Here at WinterIsComing, we've naturally also had our eyes on epic fantasies like House of the Dragon, The Wheel of Time, and The Rings of Power.

While plenty of these franchises have new seasons coming out in the next year or two, it's always wise to keep an ear out for new fantasy series that might win our hearts. There are many books and series that have been tapped to become the next big fantasy show, but many have been left on the shelf or developed only to be dropped later. It's hard to get a new idea off the ground.

I Can't Believe the Hulk's Best Villain Gets No Love From Marvel
Image
The Hulk has no shortage of insanely powerful villains that want nothing more than to see him fall. Some villains are able to match his immense strength, like the Abomination or Red Hulk, while others use superior intelligence to defeat him, like Gargoyle or the Leader. However, there’s one villain that easily stands above the rest as the Hulk’s all-time best, both in terms of physical threat and personal significance - and I can’t believe he gets absolutely no love from Marvel.

The Hulk villain in question is none other than Bruce Banner’s own father, Brian Banner, who made his debut in The Incredible Hulk #267 by Bill Mantlo and Sal Buscema. Brian was an abusive alcoholic, who would verbally and physically assault both Bruce and Bruce’s mother. Usually, Brian would simply neglect Bruce, but when he did address him, he would angrily call Bruce a monster.

AMC's Interview with the Vampire show is the latest incarnation of the property, part of a line of adaptations that has drawn prominent stars over the years, including Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, Christian Slater, Antonio Banderas, Aaliyah, and Ben Daniels.

Rice's other novels are also gaining more notoriety after the success of AMC's Interview with the Vampire. Incredible Hulk #18 Goes Full-On Horror As Bruce Banner Literally Deals With The Devil [Exclusive Preview]
Image
The Incredible Hulk is a horror character in a superhero world; like Henry Jekyll or Larry Talbot if their alter egos resembled Boris Karloff as Frankenstein's Monster. Ever wonder why Bruce Banner has more alternate Hulk personas than he does memorable external villains? It's because his greatest battle will always be an internal one.

The 50-issue "Immortal Hulk" by Al Ewing and Joe Bennett was one of the defining Marvel comics of the 2010s, in part because it embraced the character the Hulk is meant to be. Ewing added fantastical layers to the jade giant, revealing Dr. Banner had not simply been mutated by the Gamma bomb explosion where the Hulk was born; the bomb opened a "Green Door" to the underworld.

There are two ongoing Marvel comics right now that could be called "Immortal Hulk" sequels. One is Ewing's "Immortal Thor," which features overlapping themes and villains (without...

It’s About Time Valorant Fans Realize the Hardest Rank in the Game Was Never Ascendant or Immortal
Image
For many Valorant players, the climb up the ranked ladder can feel like a battle of willpower. When Valorant players discuss the hardest rank to escape, many people focus on the higher ranks like Ascendant or Immortal. But in truth, the real struggle often lies much lower.

Gold is full of the best and worst players in the game. | Image Credit: Riot Games

Despite being so low in the rank tiers, Gold has earned a reputation as a frustrating and difficult rank to escape. Many players find Gold lobbies more toxic, inconsistent, and volatile, making the climb out of this rank a mental and skill-testing hell.

Valorant‘s Ranked System Doesn’t Tell You About What Happens In Gold

One of the primary reasons Valorant‘s Gold rank is so challenging lies in the mindset of the players. Gold players often develop an inflated sense of skill, believing they’re far superior to their rank.

Thor's Death Just Revealed 2 Classic Marvel Villains Are Secretly Gods
Image
Contains Spoilers for The Immortal Thor #16!Thanks to a team-up of classic supervillains, Thor has seemingly died for real, but whats worse, these villains now might become something stronger than anyone could have expected. Of course, as one of Marvel's most powerful deities, and one of Earth's Mightiest Heroes, death will not likely be enough to stop Thor yet the implications of his killers' actions could have far-reaching, cosmic consequences.

Immortal Thor #16 written by Al Ewing, with art by Jan Bazaldua features Thor's apparent death at the hands of B-List villains Mr Hyde and the Gray Gargoyle who, along with Cobra and the Radioactive Man, are becoming what the comic describes as a new pantheon of gods.

Immortal Thor #16 Brings Back A Classic Marvel Comics Villain (And You Probably Won't Guess Who) [Exclusive Preview]
Image
Al Ewing's "Immortal Thor" is one of Marvel Comics' best ongoing series. A spiritual sequel to Ewing's earlier "Immortal Hulk," the book has a satirical bent; this Thor will even swing his hammer at Marvel's own worst habits.

The upcoming 16th issue looks to reintroduce one of Thor's oldest villains: Radioactive Man. Not the comic book hero from "The Simpsons," but Chen Lu, whose skin glows green. Debuting in Stan Lee and Jack Kirby's "Journey into Mystery" #93, Lu was a Chinese scientist who incrementally exposed himself to radiation. Instead of poisoning him, however, the experiment gave him the ability to absorb, emit, and manipulate forms of radiation.

Radioactive Man combines two repeating motifs of early Marvel superhero comics: radioactivity as the key to gaining superpowers and communist villains. Marvel's superheroes are products of the Cold War and, according to Stan Lee, even the Norse Gods would be...

Nosferatu Reboot Poster Reveals Sneak Peek at Bill Skarsgard's Count Orlok

Per Collider, the new poster finds Skarsgrd's Count Orlok barely lit in a soft beam of light amidst a sea of shadows. Though only Orlok's hands and heavily-cloaked silhouette are visible, the image still gives off a tense, harrowing ambiance that is right in line with many of Eggers' previous works.

Image
Thanks to an epic new weapon, Thor is finally immune to magic - including that of his insidious sibling Loki. Marvel's God of Thunder has gone from strength to strength over the last couple of years, replacing Odin as Asgard's All-Father and inheriting the immense power that comes with that role. However, Thor's new power comes with new enemies who are testing him to his limits and forcing him to adopt radical new tactics and weapons to survive.

In Al Ewing, Jan Bazaldua, Matt Hollingsworth and Joe Sabino's The Immortal Thor #15, Thor has absorbed the powers of Zeus, the villainous leader of the Greek pantheon. Remembering Zeus' golden lightning bolt, Thor decides to transmute the god's power into a golden belt, giving him the same upgrade without Zeus having access to his mind.

10 Supernatural Shows To Check Out If You Love Mayfair Witches
Image
There are many shows like AMC+'s Mayfair Witches that capture the dark, gothic tone of this supernatural thriller. Adapted from the Anne Rice novels, the series is the second installment in the network's growing Immortal Universe franchise, which kicked off with the lauded Interview With The Vampire. Set in the same world, but following an as yet unconnected storyline, Mayfair Witches introduced viewers to Dr. Rowan Fielding, the heir to a powerful witch dynasty, brought to life through Alexandra Daddario's capable lead performance. They also met Lasher the ancient, malevolent spirit who holds a seductive power over the Mayfairs.

The Mayfair Witches season 1 finale closed its suspense-filled first season with a shocking Lasher twist. While the critical response to Mayfair Witches hasn't been as strong as its partner series, scoring a 44% Rotten Tomatoes score in comparison to Interview With The Vampire's impressive 98%, it has established its main themes well.

Warning! Spoilers ahead for The Immortal Thor #14!The latest boost to Thor's godly might has increased his power levels well beyond their previous limits but at a grave cost. Hercules and Thor come face-to-face with Zeus in a battle for the ages, but despite the increase in his strength, this upgrade could spell doom for Thor and the entire Marvel Universe.

Al Ewing and Jan Bazaldua’s Immortal Thor is all fans can discuss now in the comics world. The superhero, who ascended to the title of the All-father of Asgard recently, became one of the most powerful Gods in the Marvel universe. In the comics, Thor was traditionally far below the power level of Olympus’ Skyfather Zeus. However, that changed in Immortal Thor.
