It's good for its target audience, but...

Ojamajo Doremi is a magical girl series in Japan that is said to be aimed at 6-10 year old girls. While it is heavily marketed to and advertised to that demographic, other people have the right to watch it as well. But while the antics of the Ojamajos may be fun to watch for different kinds of people, I myself am not a fan of it. Now, I originally watched this series as a joke, as a friend told me that Doremi's dad looked like Hank Hill from King of the Hill. But while it does have a certain charm to it, I didn't really like it much, as I found it boring, as unlike most magical girl shows, the girls appear to use their powers for mundane stuff, like helping out other people. I understand that that's what the show does, and I have no problem with people liking it, I myself find it boring, and not as action-packed as other shows like Precure or DBZ. Now, I am a fan of shonen, so I understand why I didn't like it, but if other people want to watch it and like it, then I'm not complaining. Overall, the characters are really nice and the show does a good job of a relaxing tone with a bit of magic spread through it, but I have to warn you that it may not be for everyone. Although if you are a fan of magical girl shows, I'd heavily recommend it.

Ojamajo Doremi and Precure should go away from existence

It is disappointing, Ojamajo Doremi and Precure both have magic in it, so I would not recommend these series for my children, if you watch Obey Jehovah from Become Jehovah's Friend, It will teach you why you should not look at magical girl shows.

So, should I recommend those series for my children, NO!

    Wanna see a good show?

I'd say skip that and watch The Powerpuff Girls, The Berenstain Bears, The Looney Tunes Show, or the original Looney Tunes, They are so much better.

    top-notch animation

I've seen the first eight episodes of this long-running kids' comedy from Japan and find it pretty amusing. The story is about an underachieving elementary school girl named Doremi whose name sounds like the musical notes "do", "re", "mi". The setup for how Doremi turns into a witch is a little shakey but no more than how another magical girl Hime-chan got her magic ribbon. The show seems "toycentric" because the magical devices she uses look like they are meant to be released as toys. Still the program should appeal to people beyond the usual demographic of little girls because the artwork is top-notch and the characters are funny. The backgrounds are beautifully rendered and I would rate the art with an "A". I wonder how they achieve that textured paper look?

Check this one out if you can find it on an import DVD.

Sailor Moon remade for a younger audience with witches instead of superheroines...that's good stuff!

After finishing this 200+ series (I'm counting Na-i-sho inbetween) I'm sincerely baffled at the idea that this series is not talked more about, in particular by moonies (I. E. afictionados of Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon) like myself. Who the hell cares of out-of-time, unnecessary crap like crystal or eternal when you literally have two of the directors who made the 90's superheroics animated masterpiece making the same thing, like the title of this review suggests, with witches instead of superheroines and a more stringent focus on the problems children could face during their lifetime so as to not feel like a cheap, uninspired copycat (Wedding Peach I'm looking at you)? And it's not that the directors don't make copious amount of references to Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon, they do (the ending of Na-i-sho, I. E. the true ending of the series, feels like a big homage to the R season of that series), so again if you're a moonie you're perfectly at home. I'm also glad nobody ever thought of remaking/rebooting/whatever this series. Watch this thing and forget Crystal and Eternal ever happened to begin with.

    P. S. It's also recommended as an introduction to the wonderful world of Tokusatsus, if this series does not convince you extremely well to watch them nothing ever will period.

'Ojamajo' is actually a made-up Japanese word consisting of the words "ojama" (a bother) and "majo" (a witch). If you put them together, you get Ojamajo (A Bothersome Witch).
