That '70s Show is a beloved feel-good comedy that ran for eight seasons from 1998 to 2006 and established its dynamic cast as Hollywood heavy hitters. Lance Kerwin, who played horror-loving vampire hunter Mark Petrie in the television movie Salem’s Lot, has died. He was 62.

Lance Kerwin’s death was announced by his daughter on social media this week, with a post that read, “I am so sorry to those we have not been able to reach out to personally to notify but Lance Kerwin passed away yesterday morning. We appreciate all the kind words, memories, and prayers that have been shared. As the coming weeks progress, I will share more information about after life ceremonies. He loved each and every one of you.”

Trevor Donovan and producer Brian Bird have teamed up to create a series of “edutainment”-style films via Birds’ production company True Brand Entertainment, Variety has learned exclusively.

These films will be in the tradition of the popular “after school specials,” which became staples of American pop culture. The projects will explore many struggles teenagers and young adults are facing today, including substance abuse, equality, bullying and inclusion issues.

“These scripted narratives will be fun and humorous presentations of contemporary issues which inspire and uplift, just as they did in the original series,” says Donovan, who rose to fame on “90210,” playing the show’s only Lgbtqi+ series regular character. “That model worked well back then, and after twenty years, the lessons and storytelling that entertained Gen-x should be enjoyed again.”

Bird, who co-created “When Calls the Heart” and “When Hope Calls,” feels that now is the perfect time for the project.

Former NBC drama development exec Lisa Roos has been named head of television at Keshet Studios, the U.S.-based production arm of Keshet International.

In her new role, Roos will focus on developing original IP to bolster Keshet Studios’ ambitious lineup of limited and returning series. She will report to Keshet Studios president Peter Traugott.

Roos comes to Keshet from NBC, where she was most recently senior vice president of drama development. While at NBC, Roos worked alongside the Keshet Studios team on several projects in development as part of the studio’s ongoing production deal with Universal Television. Currently, Keshet Studios is co-producing NBC’s “La Brea” and David E. Kelley’s Peacock series “The Missing” with Utv, as well as co-developing several projects for various buyers, including ”After School Special,” ”Ties That Bind” and “The Stuntwoman.”

Prior to NBC, Roos was a development exec at Warner Bros. Television.

Since launching in 2015, Keshet Studios, the U.S. division of Keshet International (Ki), has proved a model worth copying for international content producers looking to make it big in Hollywood. The company now develops and produces content for all the biggest broadcasters and streamers in several languages for both U.S. and international audiences. Led by president Peter Traugott, the outfit leans on Ki’s existing international catalog while also acquiring third party IP and developing new originals. Larry Flynt, the publisher of the sexually explicit Hustler magazine whose legal battles turned him into a flamboyant crusader for free speech rights, has died at 78. Flynt’s famed legal battles — which he took to the Supreme Court — were memorialized in the 1996 film The People Versus Larry Flynt, starring Woody Harrelson. Flynt’s death was first reported by TMZ and his brother Jimmy Flynt confirmed the news to The Washington Post. A cause of death has not been revealed.

Many a personal device will be at least temporarily darkened by “The Social Dilemma” — though whether it’s already too late to stem, mid-course, the societal disaster the film charts is just one of many questions it raises. This potent documentary by Jeff Orlowski lends a podium to various experts who are certain the pervasive influence of under-regulated social media is destroying civilization from within. The problem, to paraphrase Mark Twain, is that it’s much easier to manipulate people than to persuade them they’re being manipulated.

Loosely based on Gauyo’s family experiences, the plot follows a thick as thieves immigrant Haitian family, who takes a “fake it, till you make it” approach to life to survive today’s American legal system. Beauvais and Wilson will serve as executive producers via their Beauvais Wilson Productions shingle. The duo recently produced Lalo’s House, a feature that highlighted the devastating world of child sex trafficking. CBS‘ latest offering, Reckless, at least has the positive quality of not dancing around with what sort of nonsense it is. It lets you know where things are going right with the introductory scene. A woman is pulled over by a police officer, and she may have been drinking, but she’ll do anything not to get a ticket. You may raise your eyebrows as the officer has her cuffed to a fence and begins to take advantage of the situation, but wait, it’s all okay, because this is just a little sexual roleplay between consenting adults. (Whew. Tee hee hee. Oooo. Steamy.)

After about a month of taking in what the WWE Network has to offer I thought we could take a look at some of the things that are worth your time on there, and even just to pick up on DVD. Perhaps the combination of my new found love of fantasy football and my fondness of sports documentaries in general make me a less than unbiased voice, but I can't recommend writer/director Rory Karpf's documentary The Book of Manning enough. The made for TV doc premiered on Espn this past week and it blew me away from a perspective that had nothing to do with sports or athletic achievement and everything to do with its noteworthy focus on parenting, family, and legacy. It's sort of shocking to think that it's been 20 years since "The Sandlot," the charming, coming-of-age baseball movie, was released theatrically, but it's the sad, sad truth. And to celebrate the anniversary, director David Mickey Evans (who went on to a prestigious directing career that included such immortal classics as "National Lampoon's Barely Legal" and "Ace Venture Jr.: Pet Detective") has been touring the movie nationwide, we assume in an Rv that's shaped like the giant, fearsome dog in the movie. Evans recently stopped by a Minnesota Twins with two of the movie's original stars, who took pictures and were awkwardly interviewed on Fox Sports.

The Vampire Diaries has had a wildly uneven season four. Yes we’ve had all-time best episodes like “Memorial” and, in particular, “Stand by Me”, but we’ve also gotten episodes that are downright dreadful, such as “After School Special” . The central character has been all but abandoned as a priority, with any agency or sense of self missing from Elena for the majority of the season, the Big Band has been almost completely bungled, and many of the supporting and periphery characters have been written horribly inconsistently. It’s not surprising then that the finale should suffer from many of the same problems as the rest of season four.

You might need your sunglasses for the latest in a long line of day-glo posters for the upcoming action-thriller-comedy-romp "Spring Breakers," from director Harmony Korine ("Gummo," "Trash Humpers"). Barely legal teen idols Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson and Rachel Korine play college students who rob a resaurant in order to finance a particularly lurid vacation, only to land in jail in their bikinis. 4.11 Catch Me If You Can

We’re back in Mystic Falls for a slightly less entertaining, but no less interesting, episode compared to last week’s, and our three teams currently competing for the cure are still circling each other. To recap, we have Bonnie and Shane, Damon and Klaus (and Elena, Jeremy and Matt), and Stefan and Rebekah, all of who have a different vital artefact in their possession. Just to complicate things even more, as The Vampire Diaries loves to do, there’s now a potential fourth team, as a particularly torture-proof stranger is seen breaking into Shane’s office and retrieving Silas’ headstone (which Stefan and Rebekah now have).

Got all of that? Good. Starting with Stefan and Rebekah,...

We had one of the best Delena moments ever on last week’s The Vampire Diaries, but will Elena actually make it to Damon or will shenanigans ensue? What’s the deal with Bonnie’s dad? And is Jeremy really up to completing the map? That’s quite a few vampires he’s going to need to exterminate.

4.10 After School Special

We’re finally back in Mystic Falls after a long hiatus, and no one’s really concerned over the big death that took place during the winter finale. Poor Tyler is used and abused more than usual this week and, as far as I can tell, isn’t even inducted into any of the teams formed at the end of the episode. After a Breakfast Club-style honesty game in the library, war has broken out over the prophesised vampire cure, and the cast are split up in surprising ways. Damon is still training Jeremy up at the lake house, and Bonnie finds the dark side of her magic lessons with Shane. Oh, and Bonnie’s dad is now the mayor.

The Vampire Diaries returned this week with fresh heartbreak and new alliances. What did you think of "After School Special?"

The majority of this week’s Vampire Diaries falls into a fairly common genre-show category- the truth serum episode. For whatever reason, be it chemical, magical, or other, characters with built-up secrets are forced together in a situation where they cannot lie. During a town memorial for Carol Lockwood, Elena thinks she sees Rebekah in the crowd. She finds April crying in the hallway, but it is a ruse. Rebekah is indeed “alive” and she snaps Elena’s neck. Rebekah calls Stefan and kidnaps Caroline and pretty soon she has an Algonquin Roundtable of compelled vampires. She recaps the whole vampire cure deal, but notices that the tension in the room is unusually high. Caroline finally tells her that Stefan and Elena broke up. Rebekah’s interest is piqued; more so when Stefan says, “She slept with Damon.” Rebekah is distracted from the vampire cure to focus on pouring salt on that wound. She compels Elena into admitting that she is no longer in love with Stefan, but she is...

The Vampire Diaries returned from hiatus last night with "After School Special," a 2013 premiere that focused on the wrath of Rebekah; the true feelings of Elena; and the revealed motives of Shane.

The episode also ended with Jeremy getting a bloody look at his immediate future, a storyline that is the focus of the official CW preview for next Thursday's "Catch Me If You Can." Watch now as Jeremy gets his hunt on:

The Vampire Diaries finally returned after a lengthy hiatus this week, airing an "After School Special" that featured the return of Rebekah, harsh truth from Elena, a transformation for Tyler, sides being chosen in a race for the elusive elixir and, unfortunately, a rather lame writing crutch to get everyone there.

Who knew compulsion could make everything so easy?

It was a pleasure to see Claire Holt back in my living room (or as close as she'll ever get to my living room... damn), as Rebekah can always be relied on to bring the perfect combination of pain and pity, revenge and bitterness.

She lashes out because she's lonely, she turns her sorrow into rage. Can you blame her? Considering all she's been through with Klaus as a brother?

What's better than the return of The CW's The Vampire Diaries tonight? How Paul Wesley exclusively let me in on some huge details on what to expect next for the series. How will Stefan and Damon's relationship change after Caroline spilled the juicy news? What's this new romance we hear with Rebekah's return? And does Paul really want the ripper in all his dark glory to return once again?

Oh, and yes Stelena fans, he did chime in about Elena and Stefan's future in season 4. He didn't divulge too much, but if he did, what would be the fun in that? Besides, think again if you thought he'd have to keep tight-lipped about other story lines too. "You have no faith in me!" he jokingly reassured.

Just like his role as Stefan Salvatore, Wesley did not disappoint. Cue the swoons.

Just hours away from The Vampire Diaries 2013 premiere, "After School Special," The CW has released new photos from the January 24 installment, "Catch Me If You Can."

The pictures themselves don't reveal a lot, except that Jeremy is still fighting the urge to slice open his sister; while Bonnie is still getting way too close with Professor Shane.

Fans can also expect Matt's life to be placed in danger on the episode... Kol to make his presence felt... Rebekah and Stefan to grow closer... and a "totally unexpected enemy" to create some trouble, according to the official network synopsis.

The fourth season of The CW's biting saga The Vampire Diaries has been one wild ride, but no one expected it to end in a senseless murder, least of all the hunky werewolf/vamp hybrid Tyler, who basically spent his time sexing Caroline and buying new clothes to rip through. But now that his mother's been drowned by that dastardly Klaus, Tyler wants revenge. And revenge is a funny thing on a lot of agendas: Rebekah and Stefan are each on personal paths to self-redemption, and this new extended trailer teases a bit of how this trio grapples with their latest foes. Based on the following promo, it's no wonder Klaus may soon star in a Vampire Diaries spinoff set in New Orleans: life in Mystic Falls is about to get rather dangerous for this Original Hybrid.

Just when you thought Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Elena’s (Nina Dobrev) sex scene was going to be the hottest moment of The Vampire Diaries‘ fourth season, along comes this clip from the Jan. 17 episode, titled “After School Special,” which finds Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) and Matt (Zach Roerig) engaging in a bit of friendly sparring at the Gilbert lake house. And by “friendly sparring,” I mean going fist-to-fist in a barrage of sleeveless delight.
