The girls did learn to surf for the film, and some clips were even used, however the serious surfing was completed by doubles. Everyone but the Pros and Sanoe Lake had doubles. All the pros played themselves and the local boys were locals boys so they did their own stuff.

All the wipeouts and competitions were real as was the guy who busted up his eye near the start. Micealle did her own stunts in the form of the Jetski, but had doubles for surfing. Kate and Matt did all their own paddling throught those monster waves, but were brought back on Jetskis. Matt even had a double for the easy stuff although some of it was him.
