Johnny Depp’s Pirates of the Caribbean co-star and surfer Tamayo Perry reportedly lost his life to a shark attack in June of this year. The actor took to Instagram to pen a heartfelt message for his co-star, who had an uncredited role in the fourth film of the franchise.

Perry was reportedly a respected member of the surfing community in Oahu, Hawaii, and is survived by his wife Emilia Perry, who he married in 2001. Depp wrote that he remembered the actor well despite the film being a few years old.

A “legendary” Honolulu surfer, lifeguard and actor who appeared in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise died this weekend after a shark attack, the city’s Emergency Services Department announced at a press conference, where the mournful tone was punctuated with praise for the famous and beloved local.

Tamayo Perry died Sunday in the attack near Goat Island, according to Shayne Enright of the Honolulu Esd. Perry was 49 years old.

Moments before 1 p.m. local time on Sunday, Honolulu Ocean Safety responded to emergency calls regarding a surfer being attacked around Mālaekahana Beach on Oahu’s North Shore. Enright said at a press conference following the tragedy that Honolulu Ocean Safety responders on jet skis rode out to the scene of the attack; they were unable to assist Perry when they arrived and returned to the shore with Perry’s body. Once brought onto the beach, Perry was pronounced dead by Honolulu emergency medical technicians.

Tamayo Perry was a prodigy in the realm of acting and surfing; he was passionately dedicated to his craft. The actor has played several roles in numerous films, such as Pirates of the Caribbean and Blue Crush. Although the actor did not play prominent roles in either film, he had established himself as an extra with significant acting prowess.

However, his love for surfing ran deeper than acting, as he was a lifeguard and a surf instructor. Perry was considered to be one of the best surf instructors, and it was his experience on the sea and his near-death experiences that made him so qualified as an instructor. However, his life was cut short after he became a victim of a shark attack in Hawaii.

Perry, who was also a lifeguard and professional surfer, was attacked on Sunday afternoon, Honolulu’s emergency services confirmed in a press conference.

Paramedics on Malaekahana Beach, Oahu, pronounced him dead after he had been taken to shore by jet ski. He had suffered “more than one possible bites,” according to officials.

The actor was known for playing a buccaneer in 2011’s Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, the fourth film in Disney’s Johnny Depp action franchise. The feature also starred Penelope Cruz, Geoffrey Rush and Ian McShane.

He also had roles in Lost, Hawaii Five-0 and Blue Crush, mainly as a surfer, and performed stunts in several others. His last role was in 2015 short The Bridge, according to IMDb.

According to the Associated Press, Honolulu Ocean Safety and the city’s emergency services responded around 1 p.m. to a call regarding a man who appeared to have suffered from several shark bites near Mālaekahana Beach on Oahu’s North Shore. Perry was then brought to shore by paramedics via jet ski and pronounced dead at the scene.

Perry was “a lifeguard loved by all,” Honolulu Ocean Safety acting chief Kurt Lager said during a press conference, according to the AP.

“He’s well known on the North Shore. He’s a professional surfer known worldwide,” Lager said. “Tamayo’s personality was infectious and as much as people loved him, he loved everyone else more.

With its list of new releases for May 2023, Amazon Prime Video is increasing its global reach.

The streamer’s biggest original offering this month is a German series. Hohlbeins’ – The Gryphon, based on the works of Wolfgang Holhlbein, will present a sprawling fantasy tale about three teens discovering a fantastical world called The Black Tower where “the Gryphon, a world-devouring monster, mercilessly subjugates all living creatures.”

The only other original title of note in May is Freevee comedy Primo on the 19th. Written by author and journalist Shea Serrano and produced by Michael Schur (The Good Place), this coming-of-age series will follow a teenager balancing “college aspirations, societal expectations, and a hectic home life on the south side of San Antonio.”

Under the terms of the multiyear deal, Imagine and MLB will collaborate to develop and produce projects rooted in stories and personalities throughout the league’s robust 150-year history. The partnership will produce programming that taps the expansive MLB film and video archive to cover historical and cultural subjects while leveraging access granted by the league to also profile the captivating storylines around the game today.

Kate Bosworth didn’t let early 2000s Hollywood crush her ahead of her big break in “Blue Crush.”

The actress reflected on her breakout role and easily what could have been a bikini-clad “Girls Gone Wild” parody of a sports surfing film.

“I was reading a lot of scripts in 2001, and the parts for women were certainly not multidimensional,” Bosworth told Vulture. “The ones that were exhibiting a lot of depth were quite competitive, and I was a ‘no one’ at the time. Being a young blonde girl, there were a lot of roles that were stereotypical bitchy, dumb, or vapid. Not getting roles wasn’t frustrating because that’s the name of the game, but the stereotypes felt disappointing.”

She added, “If you remember the early 2000s, they could be pretty cruel for young girls, so I was feeling a little dejected.”

In the film, which is currently in production, a police detective dying of cancer makes a deal with an informant to get killed in the line of duty so that his family will be taken care of with bureau benefits. His best friend and partner helps him cover it up.

Directed by Michael Oblowitz, and written by Michael Kaycheck, Oblowitz and Brooke Nasser, the film is produced by Daniel Cummings and Oblowitz, and executive-produced by Matthew Helderman, Tyler Gould and Luke Taylor of BondIt Media Capital, who handled packaging and financing.

Edward James Olmos is an actor-film-maker with a long history of advocating for Latino screen representation, and he has cast himself as something of what you might call a “magical Latino” stock character in this environmental courtroom drama. The 75th annual Academy Awards were hosted in 2003 and honored films from the previous year in 2002. Some films released that year were Enough, Tuck Everlasting, Blue Crush, and Signs. None of those films were nominated for the coveted Best Picture award that year, though.

Kate Bosworth has been working in the entertainment industry since she was fourteen years old. Her first break came from an open call in New York City for the film, The Horse Whisperer. This film needed a young and experienced horseback rider, and Kate Bosworth ended up being the perfect girl for the job. From there, Kate started to pursue the industry more, eventually moving from the east coast to Los Angeles, where more roles would be available to her.

HBO Max has a lot to offer in August, with titles to look forward to including the premiere of a brand new Seth Rogen movie called “An American Pickle” on Aug. 6, and Christopher Nolan’s 2008 Batman film “The Dark Knight” out Aug. 1.

The nascent streaming service also shares content with HBO, with new films coming like “Jojo Rabbit” out Aug. 1, “Birds of Prey” out Aug. 15, “Richard Jewell” out Aug. 8, and “Queen & Slim,” out Aug. 22. The upcoming series “Lovecraft County,” which mixes fact and fantasy and takes place in 1950s Jim Crow America, arrives Aug. 16.

Leaving throughout the month include, tragically, all eight “Harry Potter” films, which will be gone after Aug. 25. Other absolute classics like “Good Will Hunting,” “You’ve Got Mail,” and both “Kill Bill” movies will be gone after Aug. 31, so watch them while you can.
