Varèse Sarabande will release the Everest – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally and on CD September 18, 2015.
The album features the original music composed by Dario Marianelli (Atonement, The Boxtrolls). The score is great and it’s what makes the movie even more intense!
“My initial instinctive approach to the score, which our director, Baltasar Kormákur, liked and encouraged me to follow, was to have a calling voice, a distant siren call,” explained Marianelli. “It is at the same time a voice that represents the ancient goddess-like mountain, but also a luring and irresistible calling to one’s own destiny.”
Marianelli’s musical “siren call” was performed by singer Melanie Pappenheim. “The same tune that I wrote for Melanie was also played by two wonderful string players in many variations—Caroline Dale and David La Page, with whom I also have worked on several other movies,” he said. “There were also moments...

Laika is a studio that gets richly-deserved attention for its continued embrace of stop motion animation techniques in big movies. But as The Boxtrolls proves, it deserves credit for something else too: for steadfastly refusing to knock the edges of its films to pander to a family audience.
Thus, The Boxtrolls adopts a tone that doesn't land too far away from Laika's previous pictures, Coraline and ParaNorman. Based on Alan Snow's book Here Be Monsters! (although distilling just a small part of it), the film takes place in the land of Cheesebridge, a macabre looking place with the kind of imposing, shadowy buildings that stop motion seems to get across so wonderfully. It's a place of two worlds, though. Above ground, there are the ruling white hats, who get to enjoy the best cheese,...

Yesterday the Guadalajara International Film Festival in Los Angeles - Ficg in La - presented by the University of Guadalajara Foundation in USA and Conaculta, with Principal Sponsors University of Guadalajara, the Guadalajara International Film Festival, the Institute of Cinema Mexico (Imcine) and Univision, announced its lineup. "The Hours with You" (Las Horas Contigo) directed by Catalina Aguilar Mastretta, will be the Opening Night film for the 2014 Festival. The film stars Cassandra Ciangherotti, María Rojo, Isela Vega, Arcelia Ramírez and Julio Bracho.
The 2014 Ficg in La, which returns to the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood for its fourth year and runs from Thursday, September 4 to Sunday, September 7, brings the best of contemporary Mexican and Latin American cinema to Los Angeles, and is an extension of the Guadalajara International Film Festival.
Featuring outstanding and award-winning titles from FICG29, which ran from March 21-29, 2014 in Guadalajara, Ficg in La will offer the premiere of other titles that have emerged in the world of cinema throughout the year to great critical acclaim.
The aim of the festival is to increase access and visibility of Mexican and Latin American cinema in the U.S., facilitating the exchange of ideas through stories and issues of cultural and social relevance, create a space for collaboration between filmmakers, and strengthen relations between the film industry in Mexico and the U.S.
Ficg in La includes film screenings followed by Q&As with filmmakers and talent, as well as galas and special award recognitions to Latin American and U.S. Latino artists.
“This year, we are truly proud to bring two artistic programs to Ficg in La that supports emerging independent filmmakers, in effect, fulfilling part of our mission to nourish and sustain emerging talent across international film industries. Many of the films in this year's showcase reveal the cross-cultural collaborations currently taking place between film industries in Latin America, the Us, and Canada. These collaborations have resulted in the creation of groundbreaking, authentic, multicultural stories that move seamlessly across national and cultural boundaries." said Hebe Tabachnik, Director and Producer of Ficg in La.
“We are constantly finding ways for Ibero-American filmmakers to promote their films and share their experiences with moviemakers from all over the world. Among the celebrities that have accompanied us in previous editions are: Carlos Cuarón, Edward James Olmos, Sergio Arau, Diana Bracho, Alfonso Arau, Kate del Castillo, Martha Higareda, Beto Cuevas, Irene Azuela, Dulce Maria, Carmen Salinas and Jay Hernandez.
Oscar nominee Demian Bichir , Nalip (The National Association of Latino Independent Producers), Ruben Luengas (journalist) and Gabriela Teissier (anchor woman) from Univision Radio and TV will receive the festival’s Tree of Life Award for their contributions to Mexican, Latino and Ibero American culture. Previous recipients include Ambulante, Juan Carlos Arciniegas (CNN en Espanol), Fernando Luján (actor), Gabriel Beristain (Director of Photography) and Emilio Kauderer (Music Composer).
Ficg in La continues to support Latino and Ibero-American films with Guadalajara Construye in Los Angeles 1 and DocuLab.1 Los Angeles by selecting six projects from filmmakers seeking post-production funds. The films will be screened for jury members, sponsors and film industry professionals. The winners will be announced on Opening Night.
In addition, the winning projects in each competition will automatically qualify to be considered for Guadalajara Construye 9 or DocuLab.7 Guadalajara, or for the Ibero-American Competitions of the next edition of the Guadalajara International Film Festival (FICG30) – March 6 - 15, 2015.

Blu-ray.com reports that Firestarter, Casper, and The People Under the Stairs are all slated for a September 2nd Blu-ray release, but only one of the films is coming with substantial bonus features:

Lena Schömann, producer of box office hit Fack Ju Göhte (Suck Me Shakespeer), is switching to Constantin Film after 12 years at the distributor-producer’s subsidiary Rat Pack Filmproduktion.
Schömann’s credits at Rat Pack included The Crocodiles family film franchise and 3D adventure Wickie and the Treasure of the Gods directed by Christian Ditter..
Together with Becker, she produced writer-director Bora Dagtekin’s box-office hits Turkish For Beginners and Suck Me Shakespeer which has seen by over 7m cinema-goers in Germany alone and has taken over € 52 m since its release last November.
Schömann’s first project at Constantin will be the sequel to Suck Me Shakespeer, which will begin shooting this summer and be released by Constantin Film on September 10, 2015.
Suck Me Shakespeer, which won a German Film Award last month as the country’s most successful feature of 2013, is handled internationally by Berlin-based sales outfit Picture Tree International.

George Fenton and Dario Marianelli among ‘in converstation’ guests.
The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) and the Royal Albert Hall are renewing their Conversations with Screen Composers series, with George Fenton (Gandhi) and Dario Marianelli (Anna Karenina) confirmed.
The interview series, hosted by broadcaster Tommy Pearson, is now in its second year.
The interviews will take place in September and November.

The 66th annual British Academy Film Awards are here! And there was much rejoicing.
We’re here at the Royal Opera House in London to bring you all the up to the minute news on who won, who looked really annoyed when they lost, and who knows what else will be in store for us tonight?
Lord Stephen of Fry is leading proceedings once again and I’ll be updating you fine people with the winners as they are announced.
The full list of awards and nominees can be found here, and as the awards are announced I’ll update the liveblog below with the nominees and the winners.
The ceremony is due to start at around 7pm and if you’re hungry for all the red carpeting then head over here to see the arrivals from around 5pm.

As of right now, I have a list of 72 individual films that could potentially go on to become 2011 Oscar nominees. If you take into consideration the additional films I currently have listed as animated and documentary contenders the list grows to 85 films. As a result I am going to break up this preliminary list of Oscar contenders into four articles and on the fifth day, this coming Friday, I will publish the list in its entirety. I felt it would be easier to digest everything this way as opposed to offering one massive list you probably wouldn't be able to look over all at once.
As for the list itself, it should be looked at as a guide to potential nominees, not a guarantee, not a lock, but simply films that could potentially go on to be remembered at the year-end Oscar race. A few of these films may not...
