Future generations of Greeks will continue to watch this series with great pleasure. It made history for its humour and unique characters (especially Soso was a cult figure). Nine different characters -the ruthless shrew, the naive prostitute, the goofy husband, the ordinary homemaker, the wise old man in the bed, the wise old woman, the bisexual butcher's assistant, the sex-maniac butcher and the naughty "rave" son- composed an awesome TV series which still continues (four years after it ended) to enjoy greek audiences.
This series started about 4 or 5 years ago and it's still on the air. Replays of course, but it still has the same effects as the first time: Non stop laughs! The story's kinda complex to describe but in a few words,it has to do with family affairs. But the whole thing begins with an affair created outside the family limits. An affair that starts with innocent dates and ends with a child birth! But until that happens, many other incidents take place that will only make you laugh your ass out! The characters are all unique. The goofy husband, whose wife's having the affair, the sexy sister, a well known luxury prostitute, the husband's friend, a not so clever butcher, who's having the affair with his friend's wife, the butcher's wife, a very mean woman who seeks her husband's death by any means and many many other characters, that portray the reality and the relationships between families. The actors all deserved some kind of an award for their performances. Their acting, and one of tv's most successful and brilliant scripts, literally wrote history. Some lines from the series were meant to "haunt" audience's ordinary lives and you could hear it from people of all ages. The most interesting and hilarious characters were those of the mean wife and the prostitute. The outstanding performances of the two actresses and their poisonous lines could make your stomach ache from laughter. The series went on for 2 or 3 years and won tv awards for best tv comedy, best script and best female performance. Definitely one of the best series in the greek television.
Along with "Aparadektoi, the best Greek Comedy series ever ! Lefteris Papapetrou writes and Antonis Aggelopoulos directs in a magnificent way Soso, Alekos, Flora, Achilleas, Grandpa Aristides, Machi, Johnnie, Corrina and Michalis ! In a few words, Alekos, a butcher living in a district around the center of Athens is married to Soso. One day he meets Flora, an old date of his, who now is married to Achilleas and lives along with her father-in-law and his caretaker, Machi. Machi also has a son named Johnny who appears at the end of the first period and the entire second one. the rest main characters are Michalis, Alekos's assistant at the butcher's and bi-sexual and Corrina, Achilleas's lost sister who has turned up to be the best prostitute in the entire Athens. The main story of the series is Soso's attempts to kill Alekos, because he is cheating on her, but everything else happening in that are not of lower importance. Brilliant screenplay, with an excellent plot, poisonous quotes, awesome performances and a great directing. Original idea and especially the shootings were something that was done at the Greek television, for a series of the Greek television, for the first time, e.g. scenes shot under water ! Surely a serial you will never stop enjoying !
Eglimata (= Crimes) is a story about little crimes everyday people commit that in a crazy scenario could lead to the absolute disaster. One of the smartest Greek series ever!Actors like Ketty Konstadinou and Maria Kavogianni showed a whole new dimension of themselves and talent and gave us moments of incredible 'guilty' laughing.Every viewer seemed to recognise the bad side of their self in one of the characters or at least a side of their self they wish they had. Actors of every age that played bigger and smaller parts gained an equally big space in Greek audience's heart. My personal favourites (apart the first two i mentioned)are Vassilis Haralambopoulos, Athinodoros Prousalis and Stavros Nikolaidis but so many amazing actors passed by some episodes from time to time. Whoever around the world understands Greek should find a way to watch this series, even though it's been more than 5 years that it was on TV.In Greece they keep repeating the series (ANT1) in every chance there is like summertime or early afternoon zones. We'll never forget Eglimata or any of the casting crew!
"Eglimata" ["Crimes"] is probably one of the most original Greek TV shows to date. Dark, occasionally morbid, humour, off-beat iconic characters and a ground breaking script helped pave the way for any kind of intelligent comedy you're likely to see in modern Greek television. It has some weaknesses, but they are mostly technical and are far than outweighed by its greater qualities. The plot deals with a group of characters that veer towards caricature and their intertwined "crimes" against each other. It all starts with an extra-marital affair between Aleko, a butcher, and Flora, who runs an underwear store. Flora's dimwitted husband, Ahileas, is meanwhile busy looking for his long lost sister for the sake of his dying [?] father. When the sister, Corina, shows up, and it slowly revealed that she is in fact the most famous porn star/ prostitute in Athens, Flora and her father-in-law's resident nurse are self-righteously scandalised. Mean-meanwhile, Soso, Alekos' wife, finds out about him and Flora and sets out to have him murdered, evolving into one of the campiest and most outrageous villains on Greek TV. I couldn't really give out any more in fear of spoiling the twists and turns of the plot. Pity that Greek TV stations haven't discovered DVD releases yet, this would definitely fly from the shelves.
