A Wrinkle in Time might be beloved, but its filmed adaptations haven't gotten much love from The Hollywood Reporter.

Critic Todd McCarthy offers a less-than-glowing opinion of the new Disney version directed by Ava DuVernay and starring Oprah Winfrey (see page 89). But his review is sparkling compared to the shellacking the 2004 TV movie received from Ray Richmond. If a critic notes in his opening sentence that he's "a huge fan" of the original work, watch out.

As if you didn't already think Reese Witherspoon, Oprah Winfrey and Mindy Kaling were ethereal beings, they had to go ahead and straight up stun in Time.

Along with their A Wrinkle in Time co-star Storm Reid, the trio graced the cover of the magazine's latest issue in what are destined to become iconic photos. All four were photographed wearing black shirts and pink lipstick, their hair slicked back as they stared thoughtfully into the beyond.

The summer of 1990 was a good one for blockbuster cinema. Notwithstanding the fact that Dick Tracy and Gremlins 2 didn’t get the expected financial returns – and in the latter case, that’s a scandal – it saw the emergence, for one, of Arnold Schwarzenegger as a bona-fide movie star. He finally reached the top off the back of an 18-rated science fiction Philip K Dick adaptation, Total Recall. In a summer laden with hits, it was one of the biggest.

The film was one of the top ten of the year overall too, notable in particular now because it targeted adults, and was a hard science fiction blockbuster. Other films in that top 10? The tense Jack Ryan feature, The Hunt For Red October. There was Pretty Woman, an R-rated romantic comedy with sinister undertones.

2018 is shaping up to be perhaps the biggest year for superhero movies to date as Fox has added three Marvel movies to their schedule. While we’ve known for a while that something would be coming from them next year, this announcement still came as a big surprise!

First up is Josh Boone’s New Mutants on April 13th, 2018. In a stacked year, that will square off with a currently untitled Universal Classic Monsters Movie and will have to contend with Disney’s A Wrinkle in Time during its second week. Dwayne Johnson’s Rampage opens on the 20th, so that could really hurt this movie at the box office.

Much like The Force Awakens before it, Star Wars: The Last Jedi has been partially shot in IMAX.

Two years ago, J.J. Abrams utilized the large-screen format while filming scenes in Abu Dhabi, as he set about crafting the origin story of Rey, along with that Millennium Falcon chase sequence that had viewers perched on the edge of their seats. Little is currently known about how director Rian Johnson will incorporate his own IMAX sequences into The Last Jedi, but let’s not forget that the director hauled an IMAX camera to Skellig Michael, the Irish isle that doubles as the First Jedi Temple, so a scene involving Luke and Rey is almost a forgone conclusion. Either way, rest assured that Disney’s Episode VIII will take advantage of the exclusive aspect ratio and increased image quality that IMAX affords.

Disney and IMAX have released a joint statement this morning that the companies have extended their blockbuster deal through the year 2019. With this press release comes a new IMAX photo of their innovative new camera being used for key Luke Skywalker scenes on Ahch-To, which were shot in Ireland.

IMAX and Walt Disney Studios have extended their slate deal through to 2019.

The agreement will see Disney productions continue to be digitally re-mastered into the IMAX format for release in IMAX cinemas around the world.

A selection of Disney titles will also be partially shot directly into IMAX using IMAX cameras, as was the case on Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

These will include this year’s Star Wars instalment, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which will have some sequences shot with IMAX cameras, and Avengers: Infinity War, which is being shot entirely with IMAX cameras.

Twenty-two film projects, including Warner Bros.’ A Star Is Born remake starring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, have been selected to receive tax credits under California’s Film & Television Tax Credit Program 2.0.

The list includes one so-called big-budget film, an untitled Paramount project, which would have been ineligible under the state’s first-generation tax credit program, which excluded projects with budgets greater than $75 million.

In contrast, Program 2.0 is open to film projects with any budget (though credits are capped to each project’s first $100 million in qualified spending). It joins Disney’s previously announced A Wrinkle in Time as...

Principal photography on the film began today in Los Angeles. Starting tomorrow, a set in California will be home to filming one of the most iconic stories of all time, Madeleine L'Engle's A Wrinkle In Time. This will be Disney's second attempt at creating a live-action adaptaion of L'Engle's story, after the 2003 debacle. Now, A Wrinkle in Time joins the vast library of Disney's live-action reboots, like The Jungle Book, Maleficent, Mulan, The Lion King, and the soon to be released Beauty and the Beast.

The story tells of Meg Murry, her brother Charles Wallace, and their friend Calvin who cross dimensions in an effort to bring their father home. The shooting schedule also includes a brief two-week stint in New Zealand that will no doubt encompass one...

Now that California has expanded its film and television tax credit program, labor unions have reported a sizable 12.45 percent increase year-over-year in below-the-line jobs. A full year’s worth of data on the program is reflected in the California Film Commission’s first official annual report on the expanded Program 2.0, which was released on Thursday. Cfc estimates the new program will generate $1.5 billion in direct in-state spending, including $600 million in below-the-line wages. I still haven't read all of Madeleine L'Engle's Newberry Medal-winning book A Wrinkle in Time, but I'm very excited to see what Selma and 13th director Ava DuVernay does with Disney's upcoming big budget film adaptation. The story follows a young girl named Meg (Storm Reid), her little brother, and her friend who go on a search for her missing father, a government scientist who was working on a top secret project involving an inter-dimensional tesseract. Joining the trio on their journey are three supernatural beings: Mrs. Which (Oprah Winfrey), Mrs. Who (Mindy Kaling), and Mrs. Whatsit (Reese Witherspoon).

Variety reports that Gugu Mbatha-Raw has joined the cast and she'll be playing Dr. Murry, Meg's mother and a scientist, who, along with Meg's father, discovers the wrinkle in time. DuVernay took to Twitter to confirm the news:
