A concept trailer for the upcoming Highlander reboot shows Henry Cavill face off against Dave Bautista to be the last man standing, reflecting the film's action-packed potential. The upcoming Highlander reboot was confirmed by Lionsgate in October 2023, with Cavill taking on the role of Connor MacLeod from the original movie. While not much is known about the upcoming film, it's expected to retell the story of immortal warriors fighting to be the most powerful figure in the universe. The reboot will be the first movie in the franchise since 2007's Highlander: The Source, which was critically panned.
Now, Kh Studio has released a concept trailer for the Highlander reboot, showing Cavill's Connor and Bautista as The Kurgan facing off to be the last man standing. The trailer shows Cavill in different time periods while a voiceover explains his backstory. Fighting armies and exploding cars are also seen as Bautista appears,...

After six years, the first official trailer for Den of Thieves 2: Pantera has arrived, giving us our first look at the upcoming heist thriller starring Gerard Butler and O'Shea Jackson Jr., although it looks like there will be a slight twist to their dynamic this time as, instead of trying to one up one another, they'll be teaming up to pull off the diamond heist of a lifetime.
However, the synopsis is not quite as revealing, telling us that "Big Nick (Butler) is back on the hunt in Europe and closing in on Donnie (Jackson), who is embroiled in the treacherous and unpredictable world of diamond thieves and the infamous Panther mafia, as they plot a massive heist of the world’s largest diamond exchange."
In addition to Gerard Butler (300; Olympus Has Fallen) and O'Shea Jackson Jr. (Straight Outta Compton; Godzilla: King of the Monsters) reprising their roles from the previous installment,...

The Highlander reboot starring Henry Cavill has finally received a new production update. Filming will begin in January in Scotland, directed by Chad Stahelski. Stahelski is in the middle of pre-production work now.
The long-awaited Highlander reboot gets a new pre-production update and a filming start window from its director. The Highlander franchise began in 1986 with the movie of the same name, starring Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery, and directed by Russell Mulcahy. The movie was a box office flop but went on to become a cult favorite, spawning three additional theatrical sequels and two live-action TV shows. The Highlander reboot was first announced in 2008 before languishing in development; it was then confirmed in 2023 that Lionsgate was moving forward with the project.

There can be only one. Or, in the case of the "Highlander" franchise, there can be only six movies, three TV shows, and a web series, not to mention nine tie-in novels, two comic book titles, a card game, and a video game for the Atari Jaguar.
The mythology of the "Highlander" movies started pretty simply, spinning centuries-old tales of knight-errantry into a modern fable of magical immortality. Russel Mulcahy's 1986 original laid out the rules clearly: hiding among ordinary humans is a species of magical immortals who can only be killed by decapitation. When one Immortal decapitates another, they absorb their victim's life energy, becoming stronger and more exhilarated. The legend goes that when there is only one Immortal remaining on Earth, they will be granted a wish called The Prize. The central Immortal of the series, a 16th century Highlander named Connor MacLeod (Christopher Lambert), wishes more than anything to grow old.

Henry Cavill assures fans of the Highlander franchise that the upcoming reboot will go "deeper" than the original film and the popular TV show that followed it.
Speaking with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Cavill opened up on his fandom of the Highlander franchise and how he wants to do right by its legacy. However, he believes the reboot film will provide moviegoers with more depth and story than the original version, engaging fans along the way. "Obviously, I watched them when I was a lot younger, and have since rewatched. But also the TV show. I really enjoyed the lore behind it. That sense of a tragic warrior, with more of a story to tell than just a cool guy with a cool sword doing cool things. And this goes even deeper into that," Cavill said.

The Highlander reboot finally has a script and Lionsgate is moving forward with the movie, as pre-production is set to begin in October. The project has been in development for nearly a decade, starting when Summit Entertainment picked up the rights to the project in 2008. Lionsgate has been in control of it for some time now, as the studio acquired Summit Entertainment in 2012. Now, after years in development hell, the studio has a script they're happy with. It looks like this movie is finally, actually happening.
According to a new report, the latest draft of the screenplay that satisfied the studio comes from Colony writer Ryan Condal. Quite a few writers have been attached to the project over the years, meaning there have been many drafts of this Highlander reboot. Prior to this draft from Condal, Ant-Man and the Wasp writers Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari were reportedly brought in...

There can only be one. Or, in this case, two, when it comes to who is writing the screenplay for the upcoming Highlander reboot. It looks like Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari, the screenwriting duo behind Marvel's Ant-Man and the Wasp, have been brought on board to write the script for the reboot. This project has been talked about for quite some time, but with some fresh writers on board, we may actually see it happen in the not-too-distant future.
According to a new report, Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari are currently writing Highlander, which doesn't yet have a release date. It isn't clear at the moment if they are writing an entirely new draft, or if they're revising Noah Oppenheim's (Jackie, The Maze Runner) version. The duo have been picking up heat lately, as they also have the upcoming thriller Die In a Gunfight in the way, in...

Back in November, Summit Entertainment brought on John Wick and John Wick 2 director Chad Stahelski to direct their long-gestating Highlander remake, which has been in various forms of development since Summit picked up the rights to the franchise back in 2008. Directors such as Justin Lin (Star Trek Beyond), Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (Intruders) and Cerdric Nicolas-Troyan (The Huntsman: Winter's War) had been attached to direct over the years, and at one point, Ryan Reynolds was even attached to star, before dropping the project in 2013, which is interesting since Chad Stahelski is also directing Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool 2, taking over for the departing Tim Miller. Now the gestating remake seems to be on the right track, with the director revealing that he's not only developing one movie, but he's starting to put a trilogy together.

John Wick was perhaps one of the best pure action movies we have seen this decade, so director Chad Stahelski made it onto a lot of people's radar for his work on that movie. Now he is going to be tackling another potentially action-heavy franchise, but this time it will be a reboot instead of an original idea. His next project will be the long in development Highlander remake.
The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Chad Stahelski will be tackling the reboot for Lionsgate. The director seemed enthusiastic about the opportunity and has been a fan of the original Highlander for quite some time. Here is what he had to say.
"I've been a huge fan of the original property since I saw it in high school. Such great themes of immortality, love, and identity are all wrapped up in such colorful mythology. I can't think of a better...

News this week came in that the final planned Divergent Series movie would be skipping the theaters and go direct to television/DVD. It’s a rare move for such a major studio franchise to make, and it got me to thinking about other movie series that fizzled and did the same. Come inside to check out a history of downward sliding franchises!
If I come off sounding a bit harsh about all this, it’s mostly due to the fact that it’s such a bizarre situation. It’s been awhile since a studio franchise had to dropped down to direct-to-television and it’s not a good thing. Sure, Lionsgate is trying to spin the information that it’s part of a planned way to jumpstart a spin-off TV series...but the reality is this isn’t how they wanted The Divergent Series to end.

For a movie who’s most famous tag line is “there can be only one,” there are sure a ton of Highlander sequels, TV spinoffs (live action and animated), novels, comic books, and reboots. But that should come as no surprise; this is Hollywood, and the immortal Scottish swordsman epic is one of the most indelible franchises of the past 30 years.
The original Highlander arrived in 1986, and is easily the most hallowed of all Highlander properties, featuring the holy triumvirate of genre stars: Christopher Lambert (NCIS: La, Greystoke: The Legend Of Tarzan, Lord Of The Apes, Mortal Kombat), Sean Connery (The James Bond, Dr. Jones, The Rock, The Untouchables, The Hunt For Red October), and Clancy Brown (The Shawshank Redemption, Starship Troopers, ER, Flubber, Pet Sematary II, John Dies At The End, and ubiquitous voice actor). The film culture of the early-21st century has been dominated by sequels, prequels, reboots and franchises. The growing insecurity of Hollywood in the face of piracy, the rise of online media and a resurgence in TV drama, has all led to a multitude of sequels designed to perpetuate the money-making ability of an idea for as long as humanly possible. In the process we’ve ended up with a lot of bad sequels, and today we’re marking the 10 follow-up films that we really could have done without.
For the purposes of this list I am discounting sequels that were straight-to-video, straight-to-dvd or even straight-to-tv like Highlander: The Source. This is because these were generally seen by far too few people to have done any real damage to a franchise: even if you hate American Psycho II or the straight-to-video Disney sequels, they’ve not resulted in their respective...

Ryan Reynolds has officially signed on to star in the Highlander remake for Summit Entertainment and director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo.
We reported last month that the actor was a front runner for the role of Connor McLeod, a sword-wielding Scotsman who is one of the last immortal warriors known as Highlanders. After nearly a month's worth of negotiations, the deal is finally sealed for the Green Lantern star to portray this iconic character. He is no stranger to swordplay either, having played Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
Juan Carlos Fresnadillo is directing, and he is also in talks to rewrite the screenplay by Iron Man scribes Art Marcum and Matt Holloway. Neal H. Moritz and Peter S. Davis are producing.
Christopher Lambert first portrayed Connor McLeod in the 1986 adventure Highlander, that spawned the sequels Highlander II: The Quickening, Highlander: The Final Dimension, Highlander: Endgame, Highlander: The Source, Highlander: The Search for Vengeance,...

Update: Details of the film itself are still sketchy, but Deadline reports that Fishburne has now been joined in The Colony's hungry, snowy wastes by Bill Paxton. Game over, man....If you find that the thought of cannibals in a snowy, futuristic landscape dredges up unhappy memories of Highlander: The Source, there's hope in store. Like a staff member at Rekall, Laurence Fishburne will replace that memory for you, when he turns out for The Colony, which is just about to start shooting in Toronto. It's a sci-fi thriller about a group of ragged survivors attempting to sit out an ice age, while fending off attacks from feral cannibals. Think that bit in The Road with Garret Dillahunt, then reimagine it as a sci-fi comic book, and you may have something. Oh, wait, that's The Book Of Eli.Fishburne's specific role hasn't been made clear, but it's looking likely...

Utter ludicrousness arrives in the form of “Stonehenge Apocalypse”, an opportunistic made for TV outing aiming to cash in on the semi success of the considerably flashier and more glamorous “2012”. Director Paul Ziller certainly has a great deal of experience in the low budget disaster movie arena, having helmed the likes of “Solar Strike”, “Polar Storm” and the excellently titled “Ice Quake”, not to mentioned a long list of cheap creature features including “Beyond Loch Ness”, “Snakehead Terror”, “Swarmed” and more. The film has a relatively recognisable cast made up of television stars, headlined by Misha Collins (“Supernatural”), with support from Hill Harper (“CSI: NY”), Torri Higginson (“Stargate: Atlantis”) and Peter Wingfield (“Highlander: The Source”). Coming with an all important behind the Scenes featurette and trailer, the film is out now on region 2 DVD thanks to Anchor Bay Entertainment. The film follows Collins as Jacob Glaser, a formerly respected and...

You probably read other movie sites, so you may have already seen articles decrying the idea of Melissa Rosenberg taking on screenwriting duties for Summit’s Highlander remake. Some of them do so just by headlining “Twilight writer set to write Highlander remake.” Pretty gruesome idea, eh? Let me re-title that: “Dexter writer set to write Highlander remake.” Much better. The internet has a short term memory, and even though Rosenberg was brandished with the golden albatross of adapting a group of books with more sizzle than steak in them (aimed at an audience most website runners don’t find themselves in), she also had the good fortune to showcase her talents on a television program with violence, depth, humor, and action. Her abilities in those arenas make her a perfect choice for taking on the material. The bigger question is whether the world needs a reboot of Highlander. Why not? It...

Summit Entertainment has brought on Twilight screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg to write the reboot of Highlander, according to THR’s Heat Vision Blog.
Justin Lin (Fast Five) is still attached to direct Highlander, something we first reported back in September of 2009. The first draft of the script was written by Iron Man writers Art Marcum and Matt Holloway and a second one was written by Cormac and Marianne Wibberley.
I am a huge fan of The Highlander franchise which first began with the 1986 film, Highlander, that starred Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery. The story centers on Connor McLeod, a Scotish swordsman who discovers he’s part of an immortal race of warriors. He must square off against an evil barbarian to determine who is the last survivor and win the ultimate prize.
The original Highlander film spawned a number of sequels, the most recent being 2007′s Highlander: The Source, along with...

Gregory Widen was just an undergraduate in the screenwriting program at UCLA when he wrote a script entitled Shadow Clan for a class assignment. He sold the script for $200,000 to producers William Panzer and Peter S. Davis, who then sent it to be re-written. Add one music video director (Russell Mulcahy), a charismatic leading man (Christopher Lambert) and an ensemble cast, and film history was made. While not a box office success on release in 1986, Highlander did well overseas, and gained a cult following on home video, eventually leading to five sequels, three spin-off television series, an animated direct-to-video movie, books, comic books, video games and a slew of quotable lines (as well as many welts, since my friends and I spent many hours with makeshift swords fighting each other). Highlander has become a cult classic in the hearts of many.

The current economic crisis is proving a nightmare for many people. Especially Martin Pyrite, the central character of The Glass Man , a new psychological horror thriller now filming on London locations starring Andy Nyman ( Severance , Black Death , Dead Set ), James Cosmo ( Outcast ) and Scream Queen Neve Campbell. The compact chiller is written and directed by Cristian Solimeno (star of Mother of Tears and Highlander: The Source ) who calls it "An exploration of the fears regular people have in the real world, the dark places they have to go in times of extreme stress, forced to cross a line they never dreamt they.d get even close to." Andy Nyman describes the premise: In a nutshell The Glass Man is about a guy with a nice middle class lifestyle who works in...

Like a lightening bolt out of nowhere, we received word today that not only is Summit definitely going forward with a remake of Highlander, but they've got a director and producer signed on as bold proof of their throwing caution to the wind. Pretty soon they'll be able to throw the phrase "From the Director and Producer of Fast & Furious comes Highlander" because Justin Lin is going to be sitting squarely in the director's chair while Neil Moritz will be producing. And as if you weren't thrilled enough, Peter Davis, who produced the original, is also along for the ride. I can't say I know whether they are headed (get it?) in the right direction here, because I'm frankly not sure if there is a right direction for this sort of thing. It's been 23 since the original came out, and with the unwatchable reality of the most recent entry (Highlander: The Source), they might as well be...

Back in May, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Summit Entertainment is bringing Highlander back to the big screen. The 1986 sci-fi cult hit starred Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery and Clancy Brown as immortal beings who battled humans and each other. Lambert played Scottish swordsman Connor MacLeod, Connery portrayed the memorable Juan Sanchez Villa-Lobos Ramirez and Clancy was a barbarian known as the Kurgan. The film with the “There can be only one” tagline spawned four sequels and three television series. There are those of us who think reboots of properties like Highlander, Flash Gordon and Poltergeist are completely unwanted and unnecessary. Yet there are others. The type of Joe’s who couldn’t get enough of Sci-Fi Channel’s Highlander: The Source last year. This is the spoiler page for those Joe’s. While, admittedly, there aren’t many actual “spoilers” ahead - stay tuned for updates as Highlander: The...
