Netflix Faces Backlash for Dropping Beloved Action-Comedy Series After Huge Audience Turnout ( Photo Credit – Netflix )

Netflix users are raising their voices over a show that grabbed massive attention but now sits in limbo. With over 323 million hours watched, it clearly struck a chord, and fans aren’t ready to let it go.

The Action-Comedy That Blew Up the Netflix Charts

The show in question, Obliterated, dropped in November 2023 and quickly climbed the platform’s charts. It had taken the No. 1 spot within just two weeks and held steady in the Top 10 for six straight weeks. However, despite this surge of popularity, Netflix cut it short after a single season of eight episodes.

Obliterated follows a team of elite operatives who take down what they believe is a major threat to Las Vegas. After a wild night of celebration involving booze, drugs, and more, they realize the nuclear bomb they disabled was a decoy.

Spider-noir First Look Reveals Nicolas Cage's Spider-Man Noir In Upcoming Amazon MGM+ TV Series
Image
With the first Ironheart teaser expected to be released tomorrow and Superman's trailer confirmed for Wednesday, it's shaping up to be a busy week for news.

As for Monday, we're kicking things off with an official look at Nicolas Cage's Spider-Man in Amazon and MGM+'s Spider-Noir TV series.

The wall-crawling private investigator has already been spotted in set photos, but this spectacular black-and-white image is like seeing the comic books—and 2018's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse—come to life in live-action.

Cage can be seen striking an iconic Spider-Man pose and will clearly be able to shoot webs in the show. Whether Spider-Noir can right the ship for Sony after disappointments like Madame Web, Morbius, and Kraven the Hunter remains to be seen.

It's interesting that this still has been presented in black-and-white because Spider-Noir star Lukas Haas previously said, "We filmed it in - I...

Remembering Val Kilmer
Image
In honor of the legendary Val Kilmer, who has passed away at the age of 65, we’re sharing The B-Side’s episode from 2022 discussing his career and most overlooked films. See the original description below.

Today, we discuss one of the most intriguing actors of his generation: Val Kilmer! To tackle such an enigma, we bring in the legendary Katie Walsh! A must-follow on Twitter, a co-host of the insatiably-entertaining Miami Nice Podcast, and an accomplished writer. The B-Sides featured today are: Kill Me Again, At First Sight, The Salton Sea, and Mindhunters.

We discuss how Kilmer was a prodigy––the youngest student admitted into Juilliard’s drama department––before his Broadway debut in the (ultimately) star-studded Slab Boys. There’s talk of his well-documented penchant to be difficult on set, as well as those who defended him and his abilities.

We confront Dan’s deep admiration for the poorly-aged The Salton Sea,...

Spider-noir Star Believes Upcoming TV Series Starring Nic Cage Could Be Released In Black And White
Image
Spider-Noir remains in production and, if the set photos we've seen are any indication, the web-slinger's first TV series will put a unique new spin on Spider-Man.

Screen icon Nicolas Cage plays Ben Reilly, a private eye who moonlights as a superhero. We've seen him swinging into action on set, suggesting the series will be very much in line with the comics, even though those featured Peter Parker under the mask. Why Spider-Noir is named after his clone hasn't been made clear.

Lukas Haas has landed a mystery role in the show and, during a recent interview with Coming Soon, suggested the series could be released in black and white as well as colour.

"It was just an incredible project," he told the site. "Everybody involved was amazing. Brendan Gleason, he plays my boss. Just getting to, to do that noir thing. It was very genuine film noir, the way they filmed it,...

10 Thrilling Crime Shows You Can Binge in a Single Day
Image
As one of the most successful genres on television, crime shows have focused on everything imaginable, from gangster shows like The Sopranos to serial killer stories like Mindhunters. Attracting some of the best stars and writers in the business, these series can also be among TV's longest-running projects, as seen in the enduring success of shows like CSI and NCIS. Sometimes, however, less is more.

Crime shows are often at their best when audiences are treated to single stories decompressed into shorter formats, allowing people to get through the whole thing in a day. With these stories designed, typically by streaming services, to be binged all at once, these shows are closer to cinema, allowing for deeper stories and character development than normal. Fans are always looking for a great crime show, and some stand out ahead of the rest.

Spider-noir: Nic Cage Returns To Work As Private Eye Ben Reilly In Newly Revealed Set Photos
Image
It's business as usual in Los Angeles now the worst of the wildfires is over and Spider-Noir resumed shooting yesterday. Lead star Nicolas Cage, no stranger to comic book adaptations, has been spotted in costume as Ben Reilly, albeit in his P.I. gear rather than a super-suit.

The actor first played this version of Spidey in 2018's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and became an instant fan-favourite. The fact he's getting to reprise the role in live-action isn't something we ever expected, though this Spider-Man is Ben, not Peter Parker (we don't think that makes him a clone; it's more than likely a result of Sony not wanting to confuse audiences).

It's been a while since we got any updates about Spider-Noir but MGM and Amazon Prime appear to be moving full steam ahead with the streaming series.

While it was put into development before Sony Pictures pulled the plug on its villain-led Marvel Universe,...

LL Cool J is seemingly in the mood to stir things up in the music industry with the latest take on himself.

Spider-noir Set Photos Reveal A New Look At Nicolas Cage's Private Eye Ben Reilly
Image
Sony and Amazon/MGM's Spider-Noir series appears to be taking some major liberties with the source material, but given how obscure this Variant of the web-slinger is, does it really matter if "Ben Reilly" is beneath the mask instead of Peter Parker?

That's debatable; regardless, Sony appears to be ignoring the fact Ben is Peter's clone and we don't anticipate that being addressed in any way when Spider-Noir swings on to streaming next year.

Today, we have some new photos from the TV show's set (via Just Jared) showcasing Nicolas Cage's private eye. We've already seen that the series will feature a comic-accurate superhero costume and Cage unquestionably looks the part of "Ben" in these snaps.

Earlier this year, Cage opened up on what led to him reprising a role he first played in the animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

10 Great Thrillers From the 2000s That Most Fans Missed
Image
Devoted to everything from murder mysteries like Chinatown to psychological horrors like Identity, the thriller genre has delivered audiences a long list of compelling stories. Although the 1990s are generally regarded as the modern resurgence of the genre, the 2000s also delivered some solid entries. From psychological mysteries like Identity and Shutter Island to political thrillers like Syriana and the Bourne franchise, the 2000s produced various iconic films. However, not every thriller of the decade is as well known as the hits.

The 2000s gave audiences a range of compelling thrillers, using everything from murder mystery and serial killers to revenge and horror to reel in audiences. As with every decade, some of the best of these movies have gone woefully underrated, and that's only become more true as time has passed. Featuring various talented actors and directors, these movies are still worth watching for anyone who loves a thrill.

David Fincher’s Squid Game Update is a Cruel Joke for Fans Awaiting Mindhunter Season 3 That Might Never Happen Now
Image
Netflix has a very odd pattern when it comes to the shows that it creates. It is often the case that what Netflix puts out ends up becoming popular, only for the streaming giant to make the devastating decision to cancel it. However, this courtesy is not extended to shows and films that end up not doing so well, and once again, it seems that a Netflix decision is going to backfire on the streaming service.

The English adaptation of Squid Game has been green-lit by Netflix, and the show is to be helmed by David Fincher. This comes as especially devastating news for fans of the director, given that his groundbreaking series. Mindhunters was canceled by the streaming giant due to budget concerns that plagued the production of the show.

Spider-noir Set Photos Reveal First Look At Spider-Man Noir's Comic-Accurate Costume
Image
Given that it's being developed by Sony, there's been some concern among fans that Amazon's Spider-Noir series starring Nicolas Cage might not see the title character actually suit up.

Peter Parker has already been replaced by Ben Reilly as Spider-Man Noir, but newly revealed photos and footage from the show's set confirm we're getting a comic-accurate take on the wall-crawling private detective.

The hero looks like he's stepped straight off the page with a design that's also pretty much identical to what we saw in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

Based on how this scene is playing out, Ben will see a fair bit of action as he rides atop a car while shooting webs into the distance. He also has his trademark hat and goggles, though we should point out that it's a stuntman in the suit, not Cage.

Cage will be joined in the series by Lamorne Morris (as...

Mindhunter's Absurd Cancelation 5 Years Ago Gets A Harsh Reminder In Netflix's Returning 85% Rt Legal Show
Image
Warning! This article contains major Spoilers for The Lincoln Lawyer season 3!Though Mindhunter hasnt released a new season on Netflix since 2019, the sting of its cancelation hurts again with Holt McCallanys new role on The Lincoln Lawyer. Directed and produced by the celebrated thriller movie director David Fincher, Netflixs hit true crime drama followed FBI Agents Bill Tench (McCallany) and Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff) as well as psychologist Wendy Carr (Anna Torv) as they interview, research, and profile serial killers in the late 1970s and early 1980s. After season 2 saw them investigate a string of Atlanta murders in the early 80s, the door seemed open for Mindhunter season 3.

Sadly, however, it was soon announced that season 3 would be indefinitely put on hold, with David Fincher confirming in 2023 that Mindhunter was over. Still, there have been high hopes that Mindhunter will eventually be resurrected at Netflix with McCallany, Groff, and Torv reprising their roles.

Mindhunters (2004) – What Happened to This Movie?
Image
It’s not often I’d be talking about Agatha Christie, Renny Harlin, Val Kimer and LL Cool J in the same breath, but thanks to the world of Tinseltown magic, here we are! And, before you’re mis-led into thinking this video is about the great Netflix show of the same name, let me just set the record straight. This ain’t that one folks. Nope, the movie we’re focusing on today somehow manages to blend the classic British literary world of Agatha Christie with LL Cool J spitting out lines like. That’s right gore-hounds, twenty years ago director Renny Harlin was best known for action classics, pirate movies, dangling Sylvester Stallone from great heights and giant sharks; way before the likes of The Meg and more recently, Under Paris. Then, an intriguing project came his way that would blend the worlds of Agatha Christie and gangster rappers,...

Mindhunter Season 3 Has A Worthy Replacement With Apple TV+s Hit New Mystery Crime Show
Image
"Lady in the Lake" fills the void left by "Mindhunter" with gripping crime drama and true crime inspiration. Both series explore the social climate of the mid-20th century, tied together by murder investigations. Despite lower scores, "Lady in the Lake" is praised for compelling characters and addressing race and women's liberation.

Apple TV+s Lady In The Lake is a gripping, stylish crime drama that will fill the gap left by David Finchers Mindhunter. The untimely cancelation of the Netflix series, following fictional agents at the birth of the FBIs criminal profiling unit, was a huge disappointment. Fincher gave an in-depth explanation for Mindhunter's season 3 cancelation, citing budgeting issues. Despite attempts at negotiation, he ultimately declined to continue the show. Luckily, this new Natalie Portman series has many of the elements that made Mindhunter so great.

Viewers may find similarities in the series retro settings, grounded by great soundtracks and period memorabilia.

Eric Interview: Gabby Hoffmann Talks about the Netflix Series
Image
Eric releases on Netflix on May 30, 2024.

A six-episode limited series starring heavyweights Benedict Cumberbatch and Gaby Hoffmann will be available on Netflix at the end of May. Abi Morgan created and wrote the series. She is known for her incredible work on films like Shame and The Iron Lady and her Emmy-winning writing on The Hour. The series follows a set of parents who are struggling after their son is kidnapped on his way to school.

Set in New York, Eric replicates some of the incredible work of past crime-thrilling series from Netflix, such as Mindhunters, Griselda, and Ripley. The often dark tone of the series brings a nice twist with the introduction of Eric. Eric is a character that Vincent and Cassie’s son Edgar had drawn. The larger-than-life monster is brought to life after Edgar’s kidnapping, bringing a much-needed comedic aspect to the series.

The Strangers Trilogy: Renny Harlin is planning a 4.5 hour mega-cut
Image
Like many of you, I was scratching my head when I learned that director Renny Harlin would be making not one, not two, but three movies based on the horror cult classic The Strangers. While a pretty slick horror flick, the original spawned a modest follow-up that didn’t get a ton of buzz. When it came out, I figured it was a series that had run its course. It seems this is not so, with Lionsgate releasing a widely ambitious trilogy of horror films this year (it’s like the horror version of Kevin Costner’s Horizon).

Notably, it marks the return of director Renny Harlin to the horror genre. Now mostly known for his action films, such as the classics Die Hard 2, Cliffhanger, The Long Kiss Goodnight, and many more – horror was where he made his original reputation. Prison, which gave Viggo Mortensen his first leading role,...

After closing out February with discussions of Pedro Almodóvar gender-bending thriller The Skin I Live In (listen) and Neil Jordan’s not-campy-enough stalker film Greta (listen), we’re entering the heady world of Olivier Assayas in his 2016 chiller Personal Shopper, which features a stellar lead turn from Kristen Stewart.

Craving Camp In Neil Jordan’s May/December Stalker Film ‘Greta’ [Horror Queers Podcast]
Albert Lewin
Box Play

We’ve spent February discussing Albert Lewin’s 1945 adaptation of The Portrait of Dorian Gray (listen), the perfectly serviceable remake of Friday the 13th (listen), and Pedro Almodóvar’s controversial 2011 thriller The Skin I Live In (listen). Now we’re wrapping up the month with Neil Jordan’s wacky May/December stalker film, Greta (2018).

In the film, Chloë Grace Moretz plays Frances, a new to New York girl who befriends an older woman, Greta (Isabelle Huppert) after returning her lost purse. While the pair strike up an unlikely friendship, Frances’ roommate Erica (Maika Monroe) finds the relationship unusual.

What Frances doesn’t know is that Greta is more than a sad, lonely old woman. She’s got secrets in a trunk, a syringe full of sedatives, and a penchant for burying her secrets, including private investigator Stephen Rea, in the basement.

Will Frances wind up like all of Greta’s other girls?...

10 Highest-Grossing David Fincher Movies
Image
Following a start in visual effects, David Fincher scored a gig with Industrial Light & Magic in 1983, working as an assistant camera operator on iconic movies Return of the Jedi and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. He quietly co-founded Propaganda Films in 1986, then turned up the volume by directing music videos for Madonna, The Rolling Stones, and Justin Timberlake. In 1992, he made his feature film debut with Alien 3, an education in big-budget franchises, resulting in a preference for making smaller-scale, more pared-down movies. In addition to his impressive film catalog, he is credited with serving as executive producer and director of the award-winning Netflix series House of Cards and Mindhunters.

Why Ray Romano Will Never Do An Everybody Loves Raymond Revival
Image
Television series don't always end on their own terms. Some of the greatest shows in the medium's history have been canceled due to low ratings before they could finish telling their overarching story or just as they were hitting their stride creatively. Some of the most egregious examples of series getting the axe before their time include "My So-Called Life," "Arrested Development," "Frank's Place," "Sports Night," "I'll Fly Away," "Deadwood," and "Mindhunters." It's possible no one has had a more brutal small-screen run than Judd Apatow, who, before he became a hit-making film producer, watched helplessly as three superb, critically acclaimed comedies — "The Ben Stiller Show," "Freaks and Geeks" and "Undeclared" — failed to earn a second season.

Sometimes, fan enthusiasm results in these works getting revived in some incarnation or another, and, unfortunately, the results are often unsightly. But at least there's a reason for going back. The same isn't...

Wonder Man - Cast, Director And More Info
Image
Have you been wondering about "Wonder Man"? You're in good company. Given the recent news that Marvel is slowing its roll on releasing new TV shows and revamping its television production process to, well, make more sense, the future of most MCU shows is a bit nebulous. It's not that these shows won't happen, but between SAG-AFTRA's ongoing fight for fair pay and the entertainment industry's general post-pandemic belt-tightening, any show that's not already on the release schedule feels a little bit up in the air.

Thankfully, one of the most intriguing upcoming Marvel shows, "Wonder Man," still seems to be in the works as of publication time. With a crowded slate of shows on the horizon, including "Hawkeye" spinoff "Echo," "WandaVision" spinoff "Agatha: Darkhold Diaries", Riri Williams-led series "Ironheart," and reboot "Daredevil: Born Again," it's hard to remember what phase of the MCU we're even in anymore, nonetheless what's releasing next.

They are focused on satisfying both existing fans and a new generation of viewers, offering nods and homages as a bonus for loyal fans.

The B-Side – Val Kilmer (with Katie Walsh)
Image
Welcome to The B-Side, from The Film Stage. Here we talk about movie stars! Not the movies that made them famous or kept them famous, but the ones they made in between.

HBO Max New Releases: June 2021
Image
TV had the run of the place for awhile there during the pandemic. But now that vaccinations are speeding up and the weather is warming, it’s film’s time to shine. At least that’s the conclusion that can be drawn from HBO Max’s list of new releases for June 2021.

There are no real original TV series of note coming this month, which is highly unusual for HBO and HBO Max. In their place, however, are some really impressive film offerings. Major Warner Bros. titles like The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (June 4) and Lin-Manuel Miranda’s In the Heights (June 11) both arrive this month. So too do some interesting documentaries like Revolutionary Rent on June 15 and Lfg on June 24. The former deals with the staging of the musical Rent in Cuba and the latter follows the U.S. women’s soccer team’s fight for equal pay.

Mary J. Blige, Gina Rodriguez, Jake Johnson, Tim Blake Nelson, Kesler Talbot, and Jonathan Groff have all been cast in major roles in the four-episode series.

Groff will voice Ollie, a handmade toy rabbit stitched together from odds and ends. Ollie has a pure spirit with a heart of gold and never ruins a chance to make friends. He’s been best friends with Billy (Talbot) since forever, until one day he ends up in a resale shop with no way home. Though he’s often afraid of the unknown,...
