Amazon is continuing to offer deals on geek-targeted titles, today that means a great deal on the Blu-ray edition of The Ultimate Matrix Collection for only $24.49 (buy it here). The set includes The Matrix, The Matrix Reloaded, The Matrix Revolutions, the documentary The Matrix Revisited and The Animatrix plus five discs worth of bonus materials. Personally, I own this set and as a fan of The Matrix franchise it's an impressive collection in compact packaging that looks great on the shelf and doesn't take up much space. Of course, a lot of you may already own it or aren't fans of the sequels, which is a common complaint, so maybe it's not for you. However, at $24.49 it's worth the consideration if you were ever looking to upgrade. Again, you can click here to pick it up for yourself. Side Note: I reviewed the set back in 2008, so if you're interested...

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse opens with a fresh-faced college kid attacked in a dark Seattle alley by an unseen menace, save for a flash of red hair, and left bitten and screaming on a dock in the pounding rain. Immediately, you know you’re in a more dangerous film than Twilight or New Moon. Ultimately, Eclipse is still more love story than horror film: a supernatural Wuthering Heights of the Olympic Peninsula. Altogether, it’s an intoxicating blend of vampires, werewolves and romance. The Blu-ray Special Features explore a quality film production, in more depth than has been marketed. The more time I spend with the Blu-ray, the more I like it. Find out why after the jump:
Eclipse the movie, condenses into 124 minutes Stephenie Meyer’s novel (629 pages) and parts of the Eclipse novella, The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner (178 pages). The screen adaptation changes timeline, settings and dialogue which work better cinematically.

If you've seen The Matrix you know why the film community heralds it as a benchmark achievement in filmmaking. Just as 2001: A Space Odyssey and Star Wars set the bar for film special effects, The Matrix came along and made us re-examine everything we thought a movie could do. Revolutionary, groundbreaking, mindblowing - these are all terms people use to describe The Matrix. It's certainly all true, but up until now, what I'd appreciated most about The Matrix was this: it packaged a Philosophy 101 course into a digestible Sci-Fi flick with a raging techno/rock/orchestral score and jaw-dropping action sequences. The Blu-ray release of The Matrix turns this scale on its head bringing the action scenes to the level they were always meant to reach - now the film is superb all the way around.

Blu-Ray Rating: 5.0/5.0 Chicago – Like a lot of movie fans, one of the first DVDs I owned in the early days of the technology was the revolutionary “The Matrix,” starring Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Joe Pantoliano from directors Andy and Larry Wachowski. Not only was this sci-fi action extravaganza an easily re-watchable film but it looked amazing with DVD quality. Of course, HD was developed for movies like “The Matrix,” now available as a stand-alone Blu-Ray release for the first time.
The tenth anniversary edition of “The Matrix” brings the already-influential tale of Neo, Morpheus, and Trinity home in crystal-clear 1080p High Definition with the film’s original 2.40:1 aspect ratio. The impressive audio track is a Dolby TrueHD English 5.1 track and the film also includes French and Italian 5.1 tracks and Spanish and Portuguese 2.0 tracks.

Since starting RopeofSilicon I have done theatrical reviews of The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions. I then reviewed the Matrix Revolutions DVD, the Ultimate Matrix DVD set and the Ultimate Matrix HD DVD set. As a result and upon receipt of the Blu-ray edition of the Ultimate Matrix set I felt it was finally time to put this much talked about trilogy behind me. I started by doing my first official review of the original Matrix (read here), and new reviews of Reloaded (read here) and Revolutions (read here). My decision to review and re-review all three films had to do with the fact that when I first reviewed the two sequels I was still green to the movie reviewer game and on top of that opinions change. While my opinion of the first film remains strong my opinion of the two sequels continues to dwindle. I continue to...
