Happy September, guys! This month’s home entertainment releases are wasting no time, as Tuesday looks to be another stellar day of horror and sci-fi titles coming our way. For those of you excited for Blade Runner 2049, Warner Bros. is putting out The Final Cut version of Ridley Scott’s original masterpiece in 4K Ultra HD, and Criterion is giving Alfred Hitchcock’s Rebecca their trademarked HD treatment with a stunning new release.
As far as new indie horror movies go, both A Dark Song and Raw come home this Tuesday and are well worth your time, and for those of you Winchester brothers fans out there, the 12th season of Supernatural is being released this week, too.
Other notable titles for September 5th include The Spell, The Atoning, The Basement, I Saw What You Did, and a 4K Ultra HD release of The Cabin in the Woods.

It's billed as a sequel to Cloverfield, but is 10 Cloverfield Lane all it seems? We take a look at the subject of unrelated sequels...
In an era where it's just about impossible to make a high-profile movie without at least something leaking onto the web, producer Jj Abrams seems to have pulled off the ultimate coup in recent months: he and his company Bad Robot have secretly created a follow-up, of sorts, to the 2008 hit monster movie, Cloverfield.
On the 15th January, a trailer landed for 10 Cloverfield Lane, a claustrophobic horror thriller that Abrams described in a statement to Collider as a "blood relative" of that earlier film directed by Matt Reeves.
The premise is this: Mary Elizabeth Winstead's character, Michelle, is injured in a car accident and wakes up in a bunker with 40-something survivalist, Howard (John Goodman).
Howard tells Michelle that some kind of...

The new year is upon us, and it’s time to clean up Netflix once again. Don’t fear too much though, as much as we hate to see some of our favorites leave Netflix, they do a pretty good job at adding some great new content. We lose Almost Famous, A Clockwork Orange, American Psycho, The Graduate, Planes, Trains and Automobiles and all the Rocky movies – and we get Intolerable Cruelty, Training Day, The Rundown and a new Netflix Original for Degrassi: The Next Class.

Your holidays are probably already packed, but if you want to rewatch "Gladiator," the original "Conan the Barbarian," "Mission: Impossible," or any "Bourne," "Rocky," or "Rambo" films, get that action fix before New Year's Eve: These favorites are leaving Netflix streaming in January.
Holiday films "The Nightmare Before Christmas" and "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" are also being yanked, as are several Disney classics, including "Dumbo" (1941), "The Aristocats (1970)," "The Fox and the Hound (1981)", "The Great Mouse Detective" (1986) and "Pocahontas" (1995).
Also say goodbye to classics "A Clockwork Orange: (1971)," "The Graduate" (1967), "Rosemary's Baby" (1968), "Serpico" (1973) and "Lawrence of Arabia" (1962).

What's the only thing worse than a sequel? The only prospect worse than paying £10 at your local cinema to have your favourite movie ruined, forever. The answer has three words. Straight-to-video.
In the '90s, home release sequels became fairly common. You'd greet them with surprise at your local Blockbusters and then want to pull your eyeballs out when you took them home and watched them. They're probably called straight-to-dvd or straight-to-Blu-ray now, but they still exist.
With the announcement that Dolph Lundgren will be starring in Kindergarten Cop 2 (because of course), here are 21 absolute stinking sequels - the vast majority of which weren't even considered good enough for the cinema. How many of them have you watched?
1. American Pie Presents: Band Camp
2. American Pie Presents: Beta House
Maybe it's the Eugene Levy factor - just why did he keep starring in all the sequels?! - but we have weird...

Do we really need to know more about Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron’s characters from 2012’s best-forgotten fantasy?
Hollywood has form when it comes to completely unnecessary sequels. There have been four movies based on The Crow, another quartet based on Terminator and five Highlander flicks (producers of the latter presumably remaining steadfast in the face of protestations from right-minded cineastes everywhere that there should “be only one”. Sorry.) But it’s hard to imagine there’s a cinematic follow-up more pointless than the forthcoming prequel to Snow White and the Huntsman, the ingeniously titled The Huntsman.
Naysayers will surely point to the likes of S. Darko, a sequel to Richard Kelly’s beguiling cult tale in which the younger sister of Jake Gyllenhaal’s psychologically challenged teen hero Donnie Darko goes on her own time-travelling road trip. Look at my shee-yit... again. Yep, what started as iffy-sounding, blog-based rumor a couple of months ago seems now to have become a real thing: Harmony Korine's girls-gone-wild provocation "Spring Breakers" is getting a sequel. French sales and production company Wild Bunch this morning revealed an intriguing slate of titles that they'll be hawking this month at the Cannes market -- the parallel universe of low-profile and/or unproduced projects that runs busily alongside the film festival itself. Among them were a number of exciting-sounding ventures from name directors, including Gaspar Noé, Paul Verhoeven, Arnaud Desplechin and reigning Palme d'Or winner Abdellatif Kechiche. Naturally, however, the project that has grabbed all the headlines is "Spring Breakers: The Second Coming." A follow-up that will reportedly feature a mix of old and new cast members -- don't count on Selena Gomez returning, at least -- it will follow the original Breakers...

From random films with altered names to unrelated storylines, we take a look at 15 incredibly tenuous horror and sci-fi film sequels...
The profit-driven nature of filmmaking usually means that, if a movie's a hit, sequels follow. And it's sometimes the case that, particularly in the realm of low-budget sci-fi and horror, those sequels are trotted out in a rush, or don't have anything to do with the film they're following.
This isn't to say that the sequels on this list are necessarily bad - it's a proper mixed bag of the great, the mediocre and the downright awful - but in each instance, these sequels have only vague links to their predecessors, or worse still, they're entirely different films rebranded to fit an existing franchise.
Our list is by no means definitive - rather, we've chosen a collection of films that we find the most memorable.

Even though American Psycho got an unexpected, largely unwanted direct-to-dvd sequel with 2002’s American Psycho II: All American Girl, someone at Us network FX has decided to push ahead with a follow-up series, setting Stefan Jaworski to write and produce the new show.Don’t expect Mila Kunis’ sequel character to pop up, however: the new series hopes to get us back to Patrick Bateman, with some brave actor attempting to fill Christian Bale’s stylish suit as we bring Bateman forward to the present day and watch as he trains up a protégé to take on his murderous ways.Though it seems odd for a TV network to attempt something as potentially bloody as American Psycho, American Horror Story, Hannibal and more have proved you can transfer horror to the small screen without losing the impact. Also getting the TV series treatment is Tony Scott’s 2004 Denzel Washington action thriller Man On Fire.

Just in case you didn't get the memo, American Psycho is getting the small screen treatment. At least it's not American Psycho 2, right? No disrespect to Mila Kunis but that was a stinker. No one seems to hip on Patrick Bateman in his 50s acting crazy and preying on women. If that doesn't do it for you, maybe a Man On Fire series will. Yes another movie is getting the television treatment. Just add it to the list amongst American Psycho, Fargo, Bates Motel, and I just found out that Rambo...

While American Psycho already had a perfectly good sequel in American Psycho 2: All-American Girl—in which Mila Kunis portrayed a young girl who killed, then emulated sociopathic serial killer Patrick Bateman, and America portrayed a country who didn’t give a shit—FX is moving forward with another sequel anyway. The network that never met a show with “America” in the title it didn’t like is developing an American Psycho TV series, one that, like the rest of us, ignores the continuity of American Psycho 2, and picks up with Bateman in his mid-50s. Though his skin may ...

For every great movie there is the potential for a great sequel or an abyssmal failure. When Mary Harron's American Psycho premiered, it made Christian Bale a name to be remembered and divided audiences and critics with a violent and satirical look at America in the 1980s. It spawned one of the most atrocious sequels of all time, the cleverly titled American Psycho 2, starring Mila Kunis and William Shatner. Enough time has apparently passed that there is a new attempt to make a sequel to...

This new season of Haven is absolutely terrific; familiar yet fresh, just the way we like our favorite shows. We would absolutely hang out with – heck, we would date, if we were available and they were willing – any of the main characters of this show. It's been awhile since we've mentioned Syfy's hit series "Haven," but this latest news was just too juicy to ignore. WWE Superstar Edge is returning to the show and will appear in multiple episodes of the show’s third season including the premiere, September 21st at 10Pm Et/Pt.
From the Press Release:
Edge (aka Adam Copeland) will reprise his role of Dwight Hendrickson, a shrewd, longtime Haven resident and “troubled” handyman who can truly handle anything, and often does, as the town’s “cleaner.” A close ally of Nathan’s (Lucas Bryant), Dwight helps to cover up all of the town’s supernatural goings on and to keep Haven’s secrets hidden.

Some of the best news coming out of Syfy lately is the fact that Haven is returning for its third season on September 21, less than a month away. There is an atmosphere on the show, set in a small seaside town in Maine (no surprise, as it’s based on a novella by Stephen King), that combines with the exceptional cast chemistry and fantastically twisty plots to make it easily my favorite show on Syfy. You could say it has – sorry – an Edge.
Because it does. WWE superstar Edge (Adam Copeland) joined the show for a few guest appearances last season as Dwight, a “cleaner” of the aftermath of Troubled incidents, and now we hear from Syfy that he’ll be back for Season 3. It would be easy to suspect that this is stunt casting, but honestly, he’s a natural. The show has consistently excellent writing, but the actors still need to bring it,...

Technically speaking, there is a sequel to the 2000 thriller American Psycho, but it had nothing to do with Wall Street anti-hero and serial killer Patrick Bateman as personified by Christian Bale. American Psycho II: All American Girl was a cheap direct-to-dvd knock off starring Mila Kunis that only had a minor connection to Bret Easton Ellis' original creation.
The novel was published in 1991, and the film adaptation quickly became a cult hit upon its release on April 14th of 2000. Due to both the film and novel's popularity, Patrick Bateman is considered an icon of sorts, and for years, fans have asked for a sequel. Bret Easton Ellis has never obliged, but that may soon change. When posed with the question "What would Patrick Bateman be doing right now? Here, in 2012?" A question that has arisen far too many times in the past couple of years, Bret Easton Ellis decided...

As soon as we heard that Lionsgate was looking to remake "American Psycho" -- a film made only 11 years ago -- we immediately thought why? And too soon!
But then we thought what a perfect opportunity for Scott Disick to play the character he's been dressing as for the last decade.
It turns out we weren't the only ones to have that brilliant thought -- Kourtney Kardashian's baby daddy totally wants in on it. A few hours after the annoucement of the remake, 28-year-old Disick tweeted:
"Just heard there doing a remake of American Psycho! best news i have ever heard! i hope they call me!
We were even more delighted when late last night, "American Pyscho" author Bret Easton Ellis, chimed in too:
"I have warned Lionsgate that I will not approve a new version of 'American Psycho' unless it stars Scott Disick or Miles Fisher,...

In today's fast-paced, concept-destitute filmmaking world, 10 years is more than enough time to justify the remake of a popular film. And in checking my calendar, I see it's been almost 12 years since American Psycho came out — so what the hell, Hollywood? What? You’re on it? Well, okay then.
Lionsgate, which holds the remake rights to American Psycho, is planning on whipping out an ultra-low-budget reboot of Mary Harron's now-classic adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis' controversial 1991 novel. Noble Jones, who's directed music videos, documentaries, commercials and second unit material for David Fincher, is hoping to make his feature debut with the project.
Jones has written a script that updates the original by taking the titular psycho, Patrick Bateman, and placing him in today's world. How does a psycho killer react to the current financial unrest? Does he go after those pesky Occupy Wallstreet protestors in a way that would make Frank Miller proud?...

File this one under "who cares". Lionsgate is moving forward with a new American Psycho with Noble Jones tapped to "adapt a new version" based on the Bret Easton-Ellis novel, reports Variety. A new version/adaption implies a reboot of the 2000 film directed by Mary Harron, which starred Christian Bale as a wealthy New York investment banking executive who hides his alternate psychopathic ego from his co-workers and friends as he escalates deeper into his illogical, gratuitous fantasies. The project is in development, which means it could be years before anything comes into fruition. But let's be clear, nobody will be better than Bale, and the original is far from outdated. Lionsgate also released the direct-to-video sequel American Psycho II: All American Girl starring Mila Kunis in 2002.

Welcome to the 5th Annual Pajiba Ten: A list of the 10 Most Bangable Celebrities on the Planet as voted on by our readers. Thanks to new rules which elevate celebrities who have been on the list at list twice into the Pajiba 10 Hall of Fame, we actually have seven new entrants onto the 10 in our 5th year. That's fresh blood, folks, for your drooling pleasure. It's also the first year in which four women made this list, instead of the usual three.
If you're curious, there are quite a few who just missed the cut this year, including Rachel McAdams, Marion Cotillard, Benedict Cumberbatch, Donald Glover, and -- sadly -- there is no "Doctor Who" representation this year as our worst fears were confirmed: David Tennant and Matt Smith split the vote, while Karen Gillan simply annoyed too many of you in her latest "Who" run to merit the votes necessary.

Mila Kunis may have turned into a bombshell film star, but she is a geek at heart.
"I'm a massive Trekkie," Mila told GQ's August 2011 issue, after being asked about working with William Shatner in the film, "American Psycho 2," in 2002.
"That was crazy," she added of the experience. "He's exactly what you think he is."
As for that "Star Trek" obsession, Mila said she's been a fan for years.
"I got into it in my late teens -- 18, 19, 20. Something like that. I got into it later than most people. But ...

It’s back to the “Cube” again. Lionsgate is soliciting pitches for “Cube 3D,” according to ShockTillYouDrop. It is not clear on whether the film would be the third part of a complete reboot of the franchise. In the original 1997 science fiction horror “Cube,” the tale is about seven complete strangers with different personalities involuntarily placed into a maze full of deadly traps. The original film was directed by Vincenzo Natali (“Splice,” “Ginger Snaps”). It starred Nicole de Boer (“Stephen King’s Dead Zone,” “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine”), Maurice Dean Wint (“RoboCop: Prime Directives,” “Hedwig and the Angry Inch”) and David Hewlett (“Stargate: Atlantis,” “Splice”). There was also a follow up 2002 sequel called, “Cube 2: Hypercube.” In this version, eight strangers need to escape the “hypercube” and discovered they are in a strange fourth dimension where the laws of physics do not apply. The film was directed by Andrzej Sekula (“The Pleasure Drivers,...

James Franco Also Apparently Locked For The Film Which witch? This witch. After making her name on "That '70s Show" and starring in some fairly ignoble pictures along the way ("American Psycho 2," anyone?), Mila Kunis had a giant career boost in the last year, her excellent supporting performance in Darren Aronofsky's "Black Swan" wiping away any memories of her terrible performance in "The Book of Eli" earlier in 2010. She'd already booked two big comedy roles, opposite Justin Timberlake in "Friends With Benefits" and as Mark Wahlberg's love interest in the imminently filming Seth MacFarlane comedy "Ted." In our latest interview to celebrate the arrival of Black Swan in the UK, we chat to Mila Kunis about her role in the film, and how she landed the part…
Best known for her long-term roles in Family Guy and That 70s Show, and turning heads in films such as Max Payne and Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Mila Kunis' appearance in Black Swan has opened her up to a new kind of attention.
Her performance as Lily, the extroverted, ambiguously-drawn rival to Natalie Portman's ballerina, bagged her the Marcello Mastroianni Award at the Venice Film Festival, as well as a Supporting Actress nomination at the Golden Globes.
Back at the London Film Festival, we sat in on a roundtable interview with Kunis, chatting about the odd circumstances which led her to Black Swan, the enduring appeal of Family Guy, and where she sees her career going in the future.

Darren Aronofsky is a master at making beautiful films you never want to see again. Part of this has to do with the inherently unpleasant nature of the obsessions and addictions he chronicles: the heroin chase of Requiem for a Dream, the eon-spanning pursuit of doomed love in The Fountain, the thirst for a dying fame in The Wrestler. These are dark and unwelcoming stories, but Aronofsky presents them in such a way that their emotional impact becomes a physical one through an often dazzling use of sound and vision. Think of (respectively) Harry's infected arm, Tomas' physical martyrdom, or Randy the Ram's gruesome flagellations. These moments aren't observations by a filmmaker but inflictions upon an audience. Yet even though none of Aronofsky's films could remotely be called fun, the ones that worked married the director's fondness for skin-crawling discomfort with a commitment to telling a story populated by rounded characters.

In Black Swan, Mila Kunis and Natalie Portman play the Black and White Swans, respectively. In real life, they couldn’t both be more… exactly like their characters. Mila is a relaxed, funny, open person with plenty of humor. Natalie Portman is every bit as boring and unimaginative as her White Swan character. If either of them were ever questioning why they were cast in this film, it’s because they both didn’t have to stray too far from reality to make it believable.
Lily (Mila Kunis) lures Nina (Natalie Portman) over to the dark side through food. Just kidding. But partly, only.
Natalie Portman is the sheltered ballet dancer who yearns to dance with passion. Mila Kunis is her assertive rival. They both make up two halves of the same dancer – the Swan Princess. It’s chaotic genius at its best from director Darren Aronofksy.
Despite my assertion...

Whoa. The first trailer has arrived online for Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan, and it is both mesmerizing and unsettling. The movie stars Natalie Portman as a professional ballerina whose life starts spinning out of control when a new dancer (Mila Kunis) joins the group and competes with her for the lead role in an upcoming production. Don't be put off by the idea that this is a movie about ballet; much like The Wrestler, this is only a backdrop for a dark and twisted character study. The movie looks like it goes to some pretty dark places, and the suspense created just within these two minutes alone is palpable. This is also a chance for Mila Kunis to prove that she can do something more than comedy (although I suppose she did star in American Psycho 2), and with a supporting cast that also includes Vincent Cassel, Barbara Hershey,...

In the world of direct-to-dvd sequels that's shortly to bring us Lost Boys 3, all an enterprising studio needs is the rights to a good title and a director who's willing to work fast
Lost Boys 3, the second sequel to Kiefer Sutherland's 80s vampire hit, is coming out later this year. What? You missed Lost Boys 2? Don't worry, so did Kiefer (although it does feature his half-brother Angus). Lost Boys 2, which went straight to DVD in 2008, is a poor retread of the original, but recouped its $5m budget in less than a month, paving the way for a third film. Welcome to the world of DVD sequels, where profits are high, stakes are low, and quality lower.
Back in the 90s, the direct-to-video sequel industry mainly produced animated or family films, with Disney in particular happy to churn out weak sequels for everything from Bambi to Pocahontas. However, the decreasing...

If you're not familiar with writer-producer-director Morgan J. Freeman, here is a primer: The multi-hyphenate's debut feature, Hurricane Streets, starring Edie Falco and Brendan Sexton III (Welcome to the Dollhouse), was the first narrative project to win three awards at Sundance in 1997. Freeman went on to direct other films including Desert Blue and American Psycho 2 while launching a successful career producing reality television shows for MTV. His first series, Laguna Beach, spawned two spin-offs and two years ago, Freeman created 16 and Pregnant, which has already spun off another successful social commentary series for MTV, Teen Moms.
Movieline caught up with Freeman recently to discuss how 16 and Pregnant has been a "dream come true" for his inner storyteller, why the series hits home with so many audience members and how all of his projects -- scripted or not -- are related.

Last Saturday Fango told you about the official site for Homecoming opening for business, and today we've got your first look at the trailer for the film.
In Homecoming, Morgan J. Freeman (not the actor) returns to the bad-girl territory he previously explored in American Psycho II: All American Girl. Mischa Barton stars as Shelby, a small-town girl and former homecoming queen who’s just a tad upset when her former beau Mike (Matt Long) comes home from college for Christmas break with his new girlfriend Elizabeth (The Hills Have Eyes II’s Jessica Stroup). Shelby wants Mike back for herself, and embarks on a campaign of terror to get Elizabeth out of the picture. Paper Street Films opens Homecoming in New York and La on July 17, and expands the release in the subsequent weeks.

If Robin Hood is such a great hero you'd think he'd be able to work in some monster fighting in between all his robbing from the rich to give to the poor. That's why all Robin Hood movies in the past have sucked: lack of monsters. Thank goodness we have the Sci-Fi Channel around to rectify such mistakes.
I'd first heard about Robin Hood: Beyond Sherwood what seems like ages ago. It's only just now that progress is being made. Working from a script by Chase Parker, the writer of such other Sci-Fi offerings as Basilisk: The Serpent King, Reign of the Gargoyles, and the all-time classic Boa vs. Python, actor-director Peter DeLuise ("21 Jump Street", "Stargate Sg-1") helms this ultimate tale of merry ol' England's favorite tights-wearing, forest-dwelling, arrow-shooting, always-sticking-it-to-the-man swashbuckler as he squares off with a fiendish monster brought forth by the Sheriff of Nottingham, now in the post-production phase.

Whether it's a flick revolving around a crazed axe toting zombie lurking the halls of a dorm, or a thriller about a fraternity house that doubles as the gateway to hell, everyone, especially college students, loves college-themed horror movies. Here are some of the most recognizable on-campus horror flicks of all time. No matter how cheesy some of these films might be, we always ask ourselves the same question at the end of them...
