Wavves are back with their first album of new material in four years. Spun is out June 6th via Ghost Ramp, the band’s label, plus they’re hitting the road this summer to tour North America. As a preview, they’ve shared the album’s latest single, “Goner,” which was produced by Travis Barker. Listen below.

Spun is Wavves’ eighth record, following 2021’s Hideaway, and will also feature the February single “So Long,” though no other details about the tracklist have been released yet. The new album brings frontman Nathan Williams back together with bandmates Stephen Pope, Ross Traver, and Alex Gates.

Director Matthew Mishory and producer-financier Bradford L. Schlei have acquired rights to the L.A.-set punk novel “What We Do Is Secret” by Thorn Kief Hillsberry.

Mishory, director of “Mosolov’s Suitcase” and “Fioretta,” will direct the film adaptation, which will enter development immediately, and produce with Schlei through their Rubber Ring Films. Schlei’s credits include “Swingers,” “Spun” and “Some Folks Call It a Slingblade.” Author and screenwriter Tony O’Neill will adapt the book.

The film adaptation will have a different title than the book, since there was already a 2007 film named “What We Do Is Secret,” which starred Shane West as Darby Crash of the Germs.

The tragic story of acclaimed punk band the Germs, whose lead singer Crash overdosed and died in 1980, also provides inspiration for this new project, which has the working title “Under the Big Black Sun” (not to be confused with the X...

Future Today has inked new content licensing deals with Gravitas Ventures, Samuel Goldwyn Films and Sony Pictures that will allow it to deliver more films through its Fawesome streaming platform.

Films and shows that will be coming to the platform include “Taxi,” “Hamlet,” “Queen of the North,” “Mean Guns,” “Two Rode Together,” “The Fog” and “Silent Hours,” among others.

“Fawesome’s growing audience has come to expect engaging and entertaining content,” said David Di Lorenzo, the Senior Vice President of Content Acquisitions & Partnerships at Future Today. “Our new deals with these major studios allow us to continue to expand our premium content offering while satisfying the wants of our audience.”

Bright Eyes have returned with their first album in four years. Five Dice, All Threes is slated for release on Sept. 20.

Cat Power, the National’s Matt Berninger, and the So So Glos’ Alex Orange Drink join Bright Eyes’ members Conor Oberst, Mike Mogis, and Nate Walcott on their upcoming 10th studio album.

Alongside the album announcement, the band shared the LP’s lead single, “Bells and Whistles,” and music video for the track, which features them rocking on stage, a magical photo booth sprouting show attendees, and a bar fight.

When it was released in January of 2001, Richard Kelly's bleak time-travel psychological drama "Donnie Darko" caused a notable stir. The title character, played by Jake Gyllenhaal, is a teen struggling with schizophrenia in 1988, a time when Reagan's great Conservative revolution was drawing to a close and adults clung to suburban conformity as it crumbled under them. Donnie is obsessed with time-travel and regularly hallucinates a vicious, strange anthropomorphic rabbit monster named Frank (all while attempting to socialize at school and foster a romance with a classmate played by Jena Malone). Patrick Swayze appears as a cheesy self-self guru, Drew Barrymore plays one of Donnie's teachers, and Maggie Gyllenhaal plays Donnie's sister.

By turns psychedelic and weirdly moving (in a Goth sort of way), "Donnie Darko" quickly became a cult hit and rotated directly into the local midnight movie circuit, attracting a wide swath of misfits and night people.

Filmmaker Kenneth Karlstadt has conjured a chaotic coming of age story, “Kids In Crime,” for Norway’s TV2. The writer-director grew the project out from his well received short, “The Hunger,” into eight short episodes.

It’s a format hoped to attract younger audiences aged 16-22, who are surrounded by many alternative forms of entertainment through social media, games, and streamers. It is unclear how well this strategy worked, but the show proved to be one of 2022’s most successful shows for TV2, according to Brede Havland, producer for Einar Film Drama. It has also been nominated for the Nordisk Film & TV Fond Prize 2023.

Cameron Crowe's 2000 film "Almost Famous" was a semi-autobiographical nostalgia piece about a 15-year-old aspiring writer named William (Patrick Fugit) who lands a gig for Rolling Stone following the hip new band Stillwater on their most recent 1973 tour. This is based on Crowe's own experience writing for Rolling Stone as a teen, following the Allman Brothers Band on tour. Although highly fictionalized, "Almost Famous" captures a very palpable sense of teen wonderment one experiences in entering a previously verboten adult world. Everyone is freewheeling and cool. Sex is all around. Much of the drama of "Almost Famous" stems from the young William's eventual realization that he is a very, very uncool teen journalist, and not the band's friend at all. Philip Seymour Hoffman plays the real-life rock critic Lester Bangs.

Throughout the late 1980s and 1990s, Crowe managed to find a near-miraculous balance of honest teen emotions and ultra-hip adherence to a particular music scene.

Two hosts will present the 2023 ceremony.

The final four categories of the 2023 Bafta Film Awards will broadcast live in the UK on BBC One on February 19 for the first time in its history.

Bafta did not confirm which four awards it will be.

It did reveal the ceremony will have two as-yet-unannounced hosts and will feature plenty of musical performances, buoyed by the warm reception to last year’s performance by Shirley Bassey.

The 2023 ceremony will take place at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall, which also housed the gala screenings of this year’s BFI London Film Festival.

He was also set to direct “Midas Man,” a biopic of The Beatles’ legendary manager Brian Epstein, before parting ways with the production last winter.

Apax Capital Group, a new film fund backed by the Italian government, an Italian insurer and a consortium of other investors, says it plans to spend €1.5 billion (about $1.7 billion) over 10 years on films shot and/or completed in Europe, primarily Italy.

The venture is led by producer Yona Wiesenthal, former CEO of the Israel Broadcast Authority and content chief at Israeli Dbs platform Yes; and by Augusto Pelliccia, Italian film financier and CEO of Augustus Group. They are investors in the fund along with studios, production facilities and film commissions in Italy, Spain and Morocco.

The group has tapped New York real estate entrepreneur Noam Baram as an equity partner in North America to scout for projects by U.S. producers that can be shot in Europe and Italy. He’s currently setting up Apax Capital’s presence Stateside with a few staff between New York and Los Angeles.

It’s safe to assume that Nico Walker knew his life story could make for a good movie in the right hands. Spun Gold made The 18-30 Stone Holiday documentary for ITV in 2017, sending a group of Brits to a specialist plus-sized resort in the Bahamas, where they enjoyed a luxury break while grappling with their body image.

Now, the production company behind the International Emmy-winning The Real Full Monty: Ladies Night, has headed back to the Caribbean for Quest Red’s eight-part My Plus Sized Holiday (working title).

Deadline understands that the series will follow a group of six overweight holidaymakers as they enjoy the surroundings of a resort that is specially designed for their needs, complete with reinforced toilets and beds.

The uplifting format celebrates the participants’ plus-sized bodies. It wrapped filming in Antigua recently and is now in post-production.

We have a brand new trailer for the upcoming horror anthology movie Nightmare Cinema. Horror history is littered with great horror anthologies, such as Creepshow, Trick 'r Treat and Tales From the Hood. This one has been making the festival rounds for a bit now and it's nearly time for the project to make its way out into the world this summer. As such, the studio has decided to drop this new trailer, which features Mickey Rourke playing host to some unsuspecting victims into this twisted world. It's a lot to process.

The trailer itself sets up the connective tissue that exists between all of these segments. Former Hollywood heavyweight and Oscar-nominee Mickey Rourke is a creepy theater projectionist who is leading these poor souls through these various horrors. We get glimpses of each segment, but not enough to really totally understand what any of them individually will consist of.

Metallica is going all out with its new album, ‘Hardwired…to Self-Destruct,” out Friday, by releasing music videos for all 13 songs. The first video, for the track “Dream No More,” hit the web at noon on Wednesday. The band then released one more video every two hours. The video for “Dream No More,” directed by Tom Kirk, features live performance shots, computer-generated images and projected videos of the band.

Deadline reports that frequently photographed person and actually really good dance-popper Sky Ferreira has joined Lords Of Chaos, an adaptation of Michael Moynihan and Didrik Søderlind’s non-fiction account of Norway’s early ‘90s black metal scene, co-produced by Vice films. The project, which was initially announced last year, will reportedly focus on the 1993 murder of Mayhem guitarist Øystein “Euronymous” Aarseth at the hands of Varg Vikernes, better known as the black metal one-man band Burzum.

The film will be directed by music video veteran Jonas Åkerlund, who, once upon a time, was the original drummer for the pioneering Swedish first-wave black metal band Bathory. Few stories have bewitched extreme music fans like the church burnings and murder chronicled in Lords of Chaos, the true-crime story centered around the True Norwegian Black Metal scene of the early nineties. Exclusive: Eurythmics co-creator and record producer Dave Stewart is moving forward on Zombie Broadway, a feature adaptation of his 2008 Virgin Comics graphic novel about an undead uprising on the Great White Way. Last week it was announced that Spring Breakers: The Second Coming was moving forward, a sequel to Harmony Korine's 2013 original Spring Breakers. Star of the first film James Franco, who played hip-hop drug dealer and gun enthusiast Alien, is now speaking out against this follow-up, claiming it's a poison ship for all involved.

Obviously, James Franco is not involved with the sequel. Neither is Harmony Korine. Neither party has anything to do with the movie, which is being written by Irvine Welsh, the Scottish writer behind Trainspotting and the upcoming crime comedy Filth starring James McAvoy, and directed by cult auteur Jonas &#197kerlund, best known for the 2002 drug thriller Spun.

It's hard to follow up a gangsta, Britney Spears-singing James Franco, but a sequel for the demented 2012 film Spring Breakers is in the works. Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh will write the screenplay for a sequel to Harmony Korine's controversial tale of youthful rebellion, Spring Breakers, reports Screen.

Spring Breakers: The Second Coming, does not have Korine on board. Instead Sweden's Jonus Akerlund, director of 2002 thriller Spun, will take charge of the cameras. The new film will feature a mix of old and new cast members, according to producer Vincent Maraval of Paris based production company Wild Bunch, which is overseeing the project. "It's not a direct sequel although there are allusions to some of the characters in the original," he told Screen.
