Definitely one of the better Star Trek games out there, Bridge Commander certainly does put you in direct command of a starship. However, starships move too much like the capital ships they are, and therefore combat can sometimes be long and drawn out. Even more so is the repetitive voice acting. Not to say that it isn't bad acting, it's just that you tend to hear the same voices again and again and again...
However the game is set up in a nice manor, and the thought behind it is incredible. Each starship has it's own unique hard points and arcs for weapons, so strategically lining up your shots is a must for victory. At the very least, the game makes you think.
On another note, the music is good. However, unfortunately, it doesn't fit the mood of the game very well. The music is nicely performed and is nice to listen to, but it is way too slow and soft for a game centered around starship combat and operations. Otherwise, the music is very nice :) Regardding mods, there are plenty of starships to download on the internet to make this game worth getting. While the game itself comes with only a limited few to fly, with all the BC mods out there, you can double, possibly triple the amount of starships in your list. (There are even mods that are NOT Star Trek related, such as Battlestar Galactica, etc). If you do decide to download mods, my first suggestion would be the Prometheus. Yes, you CAN go into Multi Vector Assault Mode (MVAM) and it is one of the coolest additions I have seen for ANY game.
Enjoy! I would say it's worth buying now at a discounted price. Fun way to kill some time.

Before i bought this game i played the demo and from then i couldn't wait to get the full game, The graphics are excellent but i wish there were more ships available in quick battle mode. Star Trek Bridge Commander is the best Star Trek Game ever made and will appeal to anyone who is a true Star Trek fan.
This has easily taken the title as the best Trek game to date. The graphics and the sound are easily the best to date in any of the Trek games that have been made.
The sound effects are excellent from the ships phasers and the characters, which include Jean-Luc Picard and Lt. Commander Data, with their orginial voice actors, Patrick Stewart and Brent Spiner.
I do highly recommend this for anybody who is an ST fan.

I went into this one with mediocre expectations, but it turned out to be a good game. The graphics are simply stunning, the detailed textures and the attention that has gone into making it as realistic (as in the series/movies) must be applauded. The gameplay sometimes gets a bit tedious, like fly to solar system X, investigate anomaly, and fight the Cardassians or Romulans or unknown aliens, but it kept me going nevertheless, since I wanted to see what happened next. If you're into space sims and Trek, get this one.
This game does have excellent graphics, good voice acting, and an okay storyline. It is also a nice size game though it could have been a little longer. The thing i liked least about this game was its repetitiveness. Even though it's not exactly the same throughout, the enemy is always the Cardaissians or their Kessok counterparts. After a while i was wanting to meet a new race and not just stay in the same area of space but actually get to explore. The other crew members also are very instructive which takes away from the experience of commanding a starship. I know i'm ragging it a lot but I recommend it especialy if you're a trek fan and because it is so cheap now.
