Stars: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton, Edward Furlong, Robert Patrick, Joe Morton, Earl Boen, Jenette Goldstein, Xander Berkeley | Written by James Cameron, William Wisher Jr. | Directed by James Cameron
Twenty-six years after it blasted onto screens in the summer of 1991, James Cameron’s smash-hit Terminator sequel Terminator 2: Judgment Day has been given an immaculate clean-up and 3D conversion treatment for this missed-it-by-a-year anniversary release. Supervised by Cameron himself, the newly tweaked 3D effects are reason enough to see the film again, but does it still hold up after all this time? The short answer is yes. Yes, it does.
The plot, in case you somehow needed reminding, picks up ten years after the events of 1984′s The Terminator, with Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) locked up in an asylum, muttering about an imminent apocalypse, and future resistance leader John Connor (Edward Furlong) still just a snarky ten...

[Editors Note: This article is presented in partnership with Netflix’s original film “First They Killed My Father” – now streaming on Netflix and in select theaters.]
“First They Killed My Father” producer Rithy Panh is arguably the most influential Cambodian director in history. A survivor of the Khmer Rouge who escaped to Thailand in 1979, Panh found his footing as a filmmaker while living in Paris before returning to his native country 10 years later. Over the past 27 years, his work has largely taken a biographical focus, as he confronts the trauma of his family’s struggles from a number of cinematic perspectives. Viewed in full, his filmography tells the modern story of the Cambodian people, from their struggles to survive against an oppressive regime to the reverberations of those experiences in modern times.
Panh has always taken a personal approach to his filmmaking. His first widely acclaimed project, 1994’s “Rice of People,” blends professional and amateur performers in the spare tale of an impoverished family attempting to make ends meet in a world still reeling from the horrors of the past.

Jon Bernthal sure knows how to kill people. From “The Walking Dead” to “Sicario” to Marvel‘s upcoming “The Punisher” series, there’s just something about Bernthal as an actor that suggests that he’s both capable of and inclined to beat you to within an inch of your life. And with “Pilgrimage,” his latest film, hitting the Tribeca Film Festival this weekend, it looks like we’ll soon have another ultra-violent Bernthal role to add to our canon.

Preacher is one of my favorite series currently running on TV and it's going to be released on Blu-ray and DVD October 4.
The first season takes a while to get going, mostly because of character development but it really gets going. Lots of gore and is damned hilarious in spots. Very interesting characters as well. Can't wait for season 2. Read more about the upcoming release below.

I didn’t get a chance to address this in last week’s review, but let’s consider for a minute Eugene’s weak explanation of this “cure.” This is The Walking Dead, and as Rick reminded Carl and the audience this week, everything and everybody needs to be handled suspiciously. So last week, when Eugene was asked about his cure, he started with “You wouldn’t understand,” and went to “You wouldn’t have the resources to do anything with it,” before saying, “We’re going to fight ‘fire with fire,’ and adjust some superbugs slightly to kill the dead.”
Not helping the fact is that Eugene (and his portrayer Josh McDermitt) sort of reminds me of Danny McBride, thus making it even more unlikely that I can take what he has to say at face value, but the whether or not the survivors would follow Eugene to Washington...

(Teenage Hooker Concludes Trilogy... but is she a Killing Machine?) This month, the third and final film in the Mardock Scramble trilogy was released in the United Kingdom. As I have seen and reviewed the first two films (here and here), I felt obligated to check out the ending of this story as well. Like with the first film, the second film ended with a big cliffhanger, so I quickly plunked in the disc to see what happened next. And there was another reason to anticipate this title: the first two films were schizophrenic creations, trying to be trashy exploitation and poignant psychological drama at the same time. Does the trilogy still teeter uneasily on the brink of both, or does this third act plunge...

It’s been a long time since Sylvester Stallone tackled a “serious” drama, but The Expendables star is set to give it another go with Reach Me, a movie which also stars Terry Crews, Kelsey Grammer, Thomas Jane, Kevin Connolly, Kyra Sedgwick, Ryan Kwanten, Tom Berenger, Tom Sizemore, Cary Elwes and Nelly.
Comparisons have been made to Crash, though based on this trailer, Reach Me – which follows a group of troubled people who come together after reading a self-help book written by a mysterious author – looks more like a B-Movie version of that type of film which would be better suited being released straight to DVD!
Written and directed by John Herzfeld (2 Days in the Valley), you can check out the trailer for the Sylvester Stallone led release below. Reach Me is currently set to be released this October.

Cambodian filmmaker Rithy Panh has devoted his career to documenting the brutal horrors perpetrated on his homeland by the genocidal Khmer Rouge regime, which for four nightmarish years from 1975 to 1979 subjected the citizens under their control to forced migration from the cities, detention in labor caps and prisons, torture, starvation, and execution. This resulted in the deaths of around two million people and the near eradication of Cambodian culture and recorded history. Panh, in such powerful documentaries as S-21: The Khmer Rouge Killing Machine (2003) and Duch, Master of the Forges of Hell (2012), tells the story of the victims of the Khmer Rouge and confronts the perpetrators of crimes against humanity. Film: "RoboCop"; Cast: Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, Abbie Cornish, Jackie Earle Haley, Michael K. Williams, Jennifer Ehle, Jay Baruchel, Marianne Jean-Baptiste and Samuel L. Jackson; Director: Jose Padilha; Rating: **
The original Paul Verhoeven's "RoboCop" in 1987 was ahead of its times with its concept and presentation, while this one by Jose Padilha, literally and figuratively drags time.
A character-centric film of a half-man, half-machine enforcer of law, "RoboCop" delves in the transformation of a human being into an emotionless Robotic Killing Machine. The film portrays Robocop Alex Murphy's (Joel Kinnaman) attempt in cleaning up the city and then tuning his computerized memory on those who tried to.

Cambodian film-maker Rithy Panh produces a haunting evocation of the Pol Pot era with the aid of clay figures and newsreels
Rithy Panh is a film-maker, historian and survivor of the Khmer Rouge genocide who has fashioned a vibrant career out of excavating the past. The Missing Picture follows on from his earlier films, Rice People and S-21: The Khmer Rouge Killing Machine, in tackling the horrors of the Pol Pot era, although on this occasion the approach is so nakedly personal and so honeycombed with open-ended questions that it amounts to a bewitching form of self-therapy.
On the cusp of middle age, Panh has decided to re-enact his 1970s childhood with the aid of painted clay figurines. The effect is haunting; at once intimate and oddly distancing, a means of framing old traumas and thereby controlling the story. Panh shows us how the revolution falls like a black curtain on the land,...

Few horror movie killers can rank among the top tier slaughter stars we've all come to love, but damn it, they try. Well, guess what, kids? Another is on his way, and one thing is certain: He has the girth to muscle in!
From the Charlie's Farm Facebook page:
Since the 1970's the world has been seen the rise of some of the most iconic killers, Jason Voorhees, Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger and Thomas Hewitt (Leatherface). Australia has had its fair share of Amazing horror films from Patrick, Lake Mungo, Snow Town, Razorback, The Loved Ones, and of course the legend himself "Greg McLean" with Wolf Creek and now Wolf Creek 2 to name only a few.
The problem is Australia has never had a killer with the status of the American killers; Voorhees has had over 160 kills in his career and is hands down one of the most feared killers on the planet.

Rithy Panh’s Un Certain Regard (Cannes ’13) winning docu that I recently had the chance to catch up with in Karlovy Vary (and personally think would make for a “perfect double bill with The Act of Killing“) will have waited a couple of months before finding a distrib home with the Strand Releasing folks. The Missing Picture get some fall festival screenings (Tiff would be a shoe-in stop) mileage prior to launching theatrically next spring.
Gist: For many years, I have been looking for the missing picture: a photograph taken between 1975 and 1979 by the Khmer Rouge when they ruled over Cambodia…On its own, of course, an image cannot prove mass murder, but it gives us cause for thought, prompts us to meditate, to record History. I searched for it vainly in the archives, in old papers, in the country villages of Cambodia. Today I know: this image must be missing.

Strand Releasing has acquired Rithy Panh’s Un Certain Regard winner following its recent world premiere in Cannes.
The distributor plans an autumn festival release followed by theatrical roll-out in 2014.
The Missing Picture concerns Panh’s search for a “missing picture”, his recreated vision of the atrocities perpetrated by the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia from 1975-79. The filmmaker used clay figures interspersed with archival footage and spoken word in a personal retelling of the time.
Jon Gerrans of Strand Releasing brokered the deal with Nicolas Brigaud-Robert of Films Distribution.
“I have been selling foreign movies and documentaries for more than 20 years,” said Brigaud-Robert. “For me, Cambodian director Rithy Panh is one of the greatest contemporary documentary film makers.”
Panh’s previous films include the Duch, Master Of The Forges Of Hell and S21: The Khmer Killing Machine.

Renner stars in Bourne Legacy as “Aaron Cross,” a new highly-lethal government spook “whose life-or-death stakes have been triggered by the events of the ...
