Spy Groove (2000)

Review by vicsage

Spy Groove

What Austin Powers should have been

This is a brilliant satire of every spy film you've ever seen. At the same time it also skewers Hollywood and the fashion industry.

Now I'm not a fan of movies based on cartoons, but Spy Groove is crying out for a real-life adaptation starring Matt and Ben and an A-list (and B-list) of guest stars including Hugh Grant, Steve Buscemi, Charlize Theron, Gloria Gaynor, Jennifer Love Hewitt, and Ivanna Trump. BTW if this flies, I want an executive producer credit :)

I've read criticism of the animation style on the Internet, but if you grew up with the original Spider-man cartoons or the various Filmation series (Tarzan and The Lone Ranger) you'll love the style and get the joke.

The only reason I'm writing this review is because I see user comments here mentioning six episodes. Well I've seen reference made on the Internet to thirteen episodes, and while I can't confirm that, I can say there are at least twelve episodes (and I've got the tape to prove it.)

Try it. Even if you don't like the witty dialogue and pop culture references, it's only a half-an-hour.
