New Delhi, Aug 30 (Ians) Microsoft has announced the general availability of the latest Azure Virtual Machines featuring the Ampere Altra Arm–based processor.

The new virtual machines will be generally available on September 1, and customers can launch them in 10 Azure regions and multiple availability zones around the world, the company said in a statement.

In addition, the Arm-based virtual machines can be included in Kubernetes clusters managed using Azure Kubernetes Service (Aks). This ability has been in preview and will be generally available over the coming weeks in all the regions that offer the new virtual machines.

It’s a Thursday afternoon in December, and on the big screen at the Sony scoring stage, swords are flashing, arrows are flying and soldiers in ancient Chinese garb are spinning in midair.

Composer Harry Gregson-Williams is conducting a 90-piece orchestra in his score for Disney’s “Mulan” (currently available on Disney Plus), the live-action remake of the 1998 animated classic about a girl who disguises herself as a man to take the place of her ailing father in battle. “Brass, mezzo forte at bar 103,” he says just before a take. “Lots of energy! Tense buttocks!” he adds, to the laughter of musicians.

The lights dim, the red recording light is illuminated, and for three minutes the stage echoes with the sounds of pounding percussion, screaming brass and fast-moving string figures. Cue 8M37, “The Emperor Is Taken,” is in the can, and director Niki Caro pronounces it “amazing.”

The live-action version of “Mulan” premiered last Friday on Disney+.

The remake, which stars Liu Yifei as the titular heroine, differs quite a bit from the 1998 animated version. But a special cameo in the 2020 version ties the two films together. Read ahead for spoilers.

Towards the end of the film, after Mulan has rescued the emperor (a bearded Jet Li) from the hands of warlord Bori Khan (Jason Scott Lee), there is a grand scene in the palace.

There’s a reverse shot of a woman in elaborate robes making her way to the throne. Viewers are led to believe that the woman is Mulan.

It *is* Mulan, albeit the actress who voiced her in the 1998 animated film: Ming-Na Wen.

Wen, who is billed as the “esteemed guest” in the credits, makes an introduction and then steps aside to reveal Liu’s Mulan.

Disney’s new live-action adaptation of Mulan might not be a movie musical, but that doesn’t mean it is without music. The Niki Caro-directed film, which dropped on Disney+ for “premium access” this weekend, has a score composed and conducted by Harry Gregson-Williams that makes up most of the official Mulan soundtrack. However, the film soundtrack also features two versions of “Reflection,” a tune made famous in America by Christina Aguilera for the soundtrack of the original 1998 animated feature. Decades ago, musician Christina Aguilera recorded a pop version of the song "Reflection" for Disney's 1998 animated movie Mulan. Now, the singer is back with a new ballad for the upcoming live-action remake of the movie titled "Loyal, brave, true". Aguilera took to Twitter to share her excitement over the release of the single.

Nick Cannon has announced a decision to “take some time away” from his morning radio show in order to focus on “thorough reflection and education” following anti-Semitic comments made on his podcast.

A few years back, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, who is one of the most respectable names in the movie business today, drew a lot of flak for his film Aks that starred Amitabh Bachchan, Raveena Tandon and others.

Even though the film is history now, the news is that Mehra now wants to re-edit the film for the DVD version of the same. Talking about this, he says that post the film's theatrical release, one cannot go back to the shooting floor, but he can edit the film crisply and make the story telling more effective. "They really bonded with Mehra during the making of Bhaag Milkha Bhaag," informs a source, "The filmmaker wanted complete dedication from all involved into making of this bipoic and was highly impressed with the compositions that Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy came up with. New Delhi, Feb 13: The Indian film industry, pegged at over $3 billion, produces over 1,000 movies annually. But acclaimed filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra describes it as a "cottage industry" and believes it will really evolve when it crosses the phase of "intellectual bankruptcy".

Indian cinema completes a century of its existence this year and Mehra, the maker of movies like "Aks", "Rang De Basanti" and "Delhi-6", says the baby steps towards "global" cinema have only just begun.

"It is a very comforting feeling for me at least, that now there is a life beyond a boy-girl romance (in cinema). I believe we are still a cottage industry and we are (slowly) growing out of it. We are an industry of a few families and a few.

Mumbai, Oct 29: Bollywood Actor Kunal Kapoor expressed his desire to make a short film soon. Kunal who is currently busy shooting for Sameer Sharma's "Luv Shuv The Chicken Khurana" revealing his plans in front of media says, "I would like to direct a short film in the near future. I find short films very interesting. So, yes, short film is something that I would love to do. But not the whole feature film right now."

Mumbai, Oct 26: Actor Kunal Kapoor, who had assisted filmmaker Rakesh Omprakash Mehra in "Aks", plans to direct a short film soon.

"I would like to direct a short film in the near future. I find short films very interesting. So, yes, short film is something that I would love to do. But not the whole feature film right now," Kunal told Ians.

Asked about the subject of his short film, he replied, "There are a lot of ideas in my mind right now. I have an idea almost every day, but I have to develop the subject."

This week Raveena Tandon has much reason to rejoice. She has won the Best Actress award for her performance in Sudipto Chattopadhyay's Shobhna's 7 Nights at the Houston Bollywood Film Festival which concluded on October 7 with the announcement of Raveena's triumph.

Interestingly, there is only one acting award at the Houston Bollywood Film Festival which covers both the male and female category of nominations. Raveena therefore beat competition from Abhay Deol and Emraan Hashmi in Dibakar Bannerjee's Shanghai to get the award.

Squealing in delight from Houston after the announcement, Raveena said, "I've hardly received awards in my career so far. I did get the National award for Daman. But that was a one-off thing. I thought I deserved recognition for Shool and Aks. But I was seen as glamorous commercial actress. Hence, not eligible for awards. Now when I've played the most glamorous role of my life, I get the Best Actress award.

Filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's mother Annapurna Mehra passed away in Delhi after prolonged illness. She was 73. The filmmaker’s mother died on September 8 and her last rites will be performed in Delhi. A prayer meet has been arranged at Gurudwara, C Block, Defense Colony, in Delhi between 4 to 5 pm today, 10th September. Mehra who is best known for his films like ‘Aks’, ‘Rang De Basanti’ and ‘Delhi 6’ is currently working on ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’ starring Farhan Akhtar. Mehra's close associations are expected to attend the prayer meet.

New Delhi, Sep 10: Filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra is mourning the loss of his mother, who passed away after prolonged illness.

Mehra's mother Annapurna passed away Saturday night here. She was 73.

Her last rites were performed by the filmmaker Sunday by the filmmaker. The prayer meeting will take place Monday at Gurudwara, C Block, Defence Colony between 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Mumbai, April 24: Critically acclaimed actress-director Nandita Das, who took a sabbatical to take care of her baby, is set to be back with a bang - but says she would rather stay away from mainstream cinema.

"I am very happy doing the kind of films that I do. Of course even that's a gamble, not all the films turn the way it is imagined. It's strange, even after 15 years people keep asking me why I don't do commercial films," Nandita said here.

Nandita has explored distinctive characters in her movies like "Fire", "Earth", "Bawandar", "Aks" and "I Am". Nevertheless, she maintains that she has nothing against mainstream commercial.

Mumbai, Dec 9: Actor Manoj Bajpayee, known for his versatility, has portrayed a character inspired by myhtological demon king Raavan in his next film 'Lanka'. But he says he does not believe in the word 'villain'.

'I don't do villainous or positive roles. I do human being roles. They are positive and negative both. If you say that I do only villain roles then your research is wrong,' Manoj told reporters here.

Manoj has played negative roles in films like 'Aks', 'Road', 'Raajneeti' and 'Aarakshan', but maintains that his characters can't be called villains.

Celebrated Indian art director Samir Chanda has died as a result of a heart related illness. Known for his work in films such as Guru, Omkara and Rang De Basanti, Chanda won the National Film Award for 'Best Art Direction' three times in his 32-year career. Speaking of his passing, director Sangeeth Sivan told Ndtv: "It is with deep regret that I convey the tragic news of the demise of my dear friend and reputed art director Samir Chanda a few hours back of a heart failure."
