Animalada (review)
A Heaven of Horror Sergio Bizzio’s Animalada (2001) Synapse films. What is the greatest love story ever told? Is it the one where dad delivered a pizza to the girl next door only to then realize he had been living next door to the love of his life without even knowing it? Or, maybe it’s the story Aunt Jane tells about her Mexican lover, who treated her like a princess for three months, writing a page about his love for her in a diary that he’d later give to her on the day they were married. Or maybe it’s not as peachy clean as that, as mom and dad, as Jane and Mexico, as picture perfect so to speak. Maybe it’s a much more obscure tale of love, filled with the cottony softness of a Snuggles commercial packing the hard hitting bluntness of the raping of a brick.

One man and his Sheep!? Animalada: Review
Director: Sergio Bizzio. Review: Tim Irwin. Animalada is an Argentinean soap opera. It's full of jealousy, rape, murder, cheating lovers, worried families, and crazy people. The main difference is that here the main love interest is a sheep. In fact, the tagline pretty much sums it up. "A Man. A Sheep. It's Complicated." Those few words tell you most of what you need to know about the movie. Synapse Films has somehow found this and made it available on R1 DVD, and for that, at least, I'm thankful. Not that I necessarily think there is a need for more films about zoophilia, but rather it's an interesting slice of a film culture I still haven't been exposed to much. It's also a pretty enjoyable and funny film. It's got a dry, dark sense of humor. This is primarily because it plays everything so straight. We're introduced to Alfredo and his wife,...

Synapse reveals Header art, gets wild and woolly!
Synapse Films gave Fango the first look at the cover art for its DVD release of Header, which streets June 30. Company topper Don May Jr. also revealed that a twisted flick called Animalada is coming August 25, and provided the cover for that one too.

Extras are currently being finalized for Header, which May last discussed with us here; retail price will be $19.95. Sick Girl, also covered in that item, is due out July 28. And then there’s Animalada…an extremely bizarre and ultimately gory black comedy by Argentinean writer/director Sergio Bizzio. The story concerns an unhappily married man named Alberto (Carlo Roffe) who, while on vacation at his ranch, falls in love with a sheep, even staging a marriage ceremony for the two of them. When the relationship is understandably opposed by others, Alberto kills them, mixing the ground-up body parts into his new partner’s feed. Disc details have yet to be determined,...
