A massive record held by Stranger Thingsseason 4 has been surpassed, according to Netflix's recent streaming data update. Wednesday season 1 holds the trophy for the most-viewed English-language TV show of all time, but Stranger Things season 4 previously held the #2 position. Stranger Things is, of course, not only one of the biggest Netflix shows but one of the most popular TV shows ever made, and its upcoming fifth season could shatter records. Stranger Things season 5 premieres November 26, 2025.
Netflix's streaming data is always fascinating to analyze, as the platform's algorithm has proven capable of launching anything from Bridgerton to Squid Game to The Tiger King into a cultural phenomenon over the weekend. Creators behind some of Netflix's most popular shows discussed news for upcoming titles at the recent Tudum event, but new, less-advertised shows are constantly popping up out of nowhere. 2025's Adolescence is one of the greatest examples.

The final season of Squid Game is right around the corner, and Netflix has made its biggest series of all time one of the centerpieces at Tudum this weekend. The streamer has dropped the final trailer for Squid Game Season 3, which is coming to the platform on June 27. In typical Netflix fashion, all episodes of the show will premiere at the same time instead of in parts or one episode per week. Squid Game Season 3 will see Lee Jung-jae return to his iconic role of Seong Gi-hun to face off against the Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) one last time. Gi-hun watched Front Man murder one of his best friends right in front of him at the end of Season 2, so his drive for vengeance is higher than ever.

Production is underway on season two of the Netflix hit comedy-mystery A Man on the Inside, and it will feature a pair of new co-stars who happen to be Star Trek veterans. Season one, which dropped in November of 2024, stars Ted Danson as Charles Nieuwendyk, a bored retiree who lands a job assisting a private detective attempting to track down a ruby necklace gone missing at a San Francisco retirement home. Season two will find Charles still working at the private detective agency and no doubt serving as the inside man again on a new case.
The actors from the Star Trek universe joining the cast of A Man on the Inside are Linda Park and Jason Mantzoukas. Park was a regular on Star Trek: Enterprise, portraying Ensign Hoshi Sato for all four seasons of the show’s run. “You” is over, but there are plenty of murderous shows with morally questionable characters yet to be binged on Netflix.
The hit Lifetime-turned-Netflix series wrapped up its five-season story recently leaving many fans with a Joe Goldberg-sized hole in their life. Fear not, the streaming giant has plenty of options for a new bloody binge to soak up the “You”-less hours of the day.
These are seven shows available on Netflix to watch after “You.”

Updated with the latest: Wednesday’s sophomore season has become the latest to get the two-part release treatment from Netflix.
After the runaway success of Netflix and Tim Burton’s Addams Family stand-alone series Wednesday starring Jenna Ortega, the streamer renewed it for a second season in January 2023. That decision came less than three months after the eight-episode Season 1 premiered. It eventually became the most-watched original series ever on the streamer, with more than 252 million views to date, far surpassing Stranger Things Season 4, Dahmer, and Season 1 of Bridgerton on the all-time list.
Season 1 received 12 Emmy nominations, including for Ortega in Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. She became just the third Latina ever to be nominated in a leading actress category. The series won four Emmys, though Ortega lost out to Abbott Elementary‘s Quinta Brunson on Emmy night.
When will Season 2 be released?

Move out of the way, Stranger Things! There's a new Netflix show rising up the all-time Netflix Top 10.
According to Netflix, Adolescence is now the third-most popular English language Netflix show of all time, one spot behind Stranger Things season 4. Adolescence has racked up 124 million views since its premiere on March 13, only 17 million views, roughly, behind Stranger Things season 4.
Netflix tracks this data and shares it for a new show or season's first 13 weeks after release, so by my unofficial calculation, Adolescence has about seven or eight more weeks to rack up 17 million views, pass Stranger Things season 4, and settle in at the No. 2 spot on the all-time Netflix Top 10. Netflix shared that Adolescence racked up another 9 million views this week, so it's probably going to happen within the next two or three weeks.

It's hard to question the legacy of a movie like The Breakfast Club. John Hughes' coming-of-age masterpiece of 1985 was a fascinating depiction of teenage angst, as seen from the perspectives of five students coming from different parts of '80s society. It was a game-changer for its young cast, who would then become part of the Brat Pack and pursue acting careers outside the stereotypes the movie built for them. Curiously, as famous as the film was and as timeless as it remains for its fans, in over 40 years, the cast has never reunited. That was until a few days ago, when Andrew, Brian, John, Claire, and Allison were seen together at a pop culture convention.
The Breakfast Club cast has reunited for the first time in 40 years, although not in a sequel to the beloved high school movie. As reported by People, Molly Ringwald, Ally Sheedy, Judd Nelson, Emilio Estévez,...

A personal ranking of the most unforgettable series Netflix has ever dropped.
Netflix didn’t just change how we watch TV — it flipped the whole system on its head. Before streaming, networks called the shots, and shows came out once a week (with commercials). Then Netflix came along, dropped full seasons at once, and basically told Hollywood, “We’re doing it our way.” It worked. Suddenly, people were binge-watching, studios were scrambling, and everyone had to rethink what “TV” even meant. Now, Netflix is the big kid on the block, still setting the pace, still stacked with some of the best series of the last decade. They even brought commercials back (time is a circle)! So, here’s my list of the top 10 shows of all time on Netflix.
Top 10 all-time TV shows streaming on Netflix:
No. 10: ‘The Crown’
No. 9: ‘Dahmer – Monster’
No. 8: ‘BoJack Horseman’
No. 7: ‘Wednesday’

“Adolescence” has not stopped gaining steam. Last week, the U.K. limited series joined Netflix’s list of its most popular English-language series of all time last week at No. 9, knocking “Bridgerton” Season 2 off the list and pushing “Stranger Things” Season 3 down to No. 10. Now, “Adolescence” is in fourth place on the list with 114 million views in only 24 days.
The series is now only behind “Wednesday” Season 1 (252.1 million views), “Stranger Things” Season 4 (140.7 million views) and “Dahmer: Monster” (115.6 million) on the list. It appears likely to eventually usurp at least the “Stranger Things” and “Dahmer,” as Netflix measures this list based on 91 days of viewing for each title, so “Adolescence” still has more than two months to catch up.
17.8 million of the show’s 114 million-view total came during the May 31-April 6 viewing window, making it the No. 1 TV title of the week in its fourth week on Netflix.

The State of the Race
Unfortunately, unlike the Comedy and Drama categories, which have expanded in recent years, the Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series category at the Emmys still only allows for five nominees. Shows that premiere earlier in the season tend to be favored, making the spring schedule, when the majority of these shows are released, a very tight competition for voters’ attention.

Sometimes you know what people are watching on Netflix just by being part of culture. It’s not going to shock anyone to learn that “Squid Game” and the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight were, indeed, hits.
But when you dive further into the streamer’s data, weirder trends begin to emerge.
For example, did you know that in the last six months of 2024, people were all about “Prison Break” and that audiences were watching that nearly 20-year-old Fox series far more than both “Lost” or “Dexter”? Well, now you do.
Following the streamer’s release of its most watched titles from July to December of 2024, TheWrap combed through the top 100 TV titles in search for trends. Then we went a bit beyond that just for fun. From “Squid Game” Season 2 to “Tokyo Swindlers,” here’s what the world was watching in the second half of 2024.

In case you did not know, though we are sure you did, Netflix produces a lot of fantastically entertaining original content. Sure, maybe not all of it is good. Still, even the shows that many people feel iffy about can get awards. You either loved or hated Baby Reindeer, for instance.
Some shows are popular, even though they would not seem meant to reach a massive audience. What does this say about the human race? That is likely for psychologists and archaeologists to figure out. Maybe we aren't that warped, but we also can be pretty fond of some brutal TV shows.
Case in point is one of the series that appears on Netflix's all-time top-10 most viewed. The list below is not just English language or non-English, but a combination of the two. The viewing numbers are provided by Netflix's Tudum. In other words, they are officially official.

Netflix's controversial Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story has been rated as highly accurate in its depiction of the infamous serial "Milwaukee Cannibal" killer by a crime expert. Created by American Horror Story's Ryan Murphy, the miniseries stars Evan Peters as the titular killer. One of the most-watched series on Netflix, Dahmer offered a dramatized peek into the killer's life, including his eventual capture, while portraying some of the systemic failures that allowed Dahmer to evade justice for years. Despite its popularity, Dahmer has sparked controversy among families of the victims for sensationalizing the tragedies and potentially retraumatizing them.
On Insider’s How Real Is It? series, former homicide detective Pat Postiglione assesses the depiction of Dahmer's crimes in the true crime show, rating it a perfect 10 out of 10 for realism. He specifically reviewed a scene of Dahmer in which detectives search the killer's apartment and find a...

Looking for something new to watch this January? Or perhaps an old favorite to dip back into. Taking some tips from what lots of other people have been watching could be a great way to do so.
This could be similar to looking for a busy restaurant that's popular with the locals. It should be a sign of a great place to eat. So why wouldn't you want to see the shows that have almost one and a quarter billion views from people watching on Netflix?
That’s the staggering number of views that the ten most watched shows on Netflix in English have clocked up. All those people can't be wrong, can they? Now, there is a slight warning here, too; you might likely be one of those viewers for some of the shows in the top ten. That’s fine and not a problem, it just shows what good taste you have.

In a shakeup to Netflix’s All-Time Top 10 list, “Carry-On,” the thriller starring Taron Egerton and Jason Bateman, is now the #5 most-watched English-language film in its first 91 days on the service.
In the process, “Carry-On” bumped fellow Netflix original film, Rian Johnson’s “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Story,” from the Top 10. Johnson will get his chance to make things right with his third “Knives Out” installment, “Wake Up Dead Man,” arriving later this year.
“Carry-On,” which was produced by Amblin Partners, debuted on the all-time Top 10 with 149.4 million views, and it managed to do so in less than four weeks, so it still has a lot of time to keep climbing. Jeffrey Dahmer was at the center of the award-winning first season of Monster (Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story), while season 2, which premieres on September 19, 2024, covers Lyle and Erik Menéndez.
Monster season 2 tells the true story of the Menéndez brothers' crimes and lives, including Lyle and Erik's actions before, during, and after the murders of their parents, José and Kitty Menéndez, in 1989. Television has always been a reflection of society’s darker fascinations, but the rise of serial killers and true crime has taken center stage in recent years.
From fictional antiheroes like Dexter Morgan and Joe Goldberg to dramatizations of real-life horrors like Dahmer and The Act, our screens are filled with stories of murder, manipulation, and mayhem.
But why do these characters captivate us so deeply? And where is the line between exploring human darkness and exploiting real-life tragedy?
Dexter Morgan – Dexter (Showtime)
As Dexter: Original Sin brings us closer to the roots of one of TV’s most iconic killers, let’s dig into how TV turned these murderers into cultural icons — and why true crime has become a genre we can’t seem to quit.

Now, Variety has broken the news that Rebecca Hall of Godzilla x Kong: New Empire has also joined the cast.
Filming on The Beauty is already underway. FX has given the show an 11 episode order. While the series is based on the Image Comics series of the same name by Jeremy Haun and Jason A. The one-man juggernaut that is Ryan Murphy announced earlier this year that the next season of his hit Netflix series, Monster, would focus on infamous serial killer Ed Gein, with Sons of Anarchy’s Charlie Hunnam in the lead role. Now, we have our first look at Hunnam in character, and the resemblance to Gein is so uncanny that we had to blink twice to make sure it wasn’t an AI clone.
What’s on Netflix recently shared a few photos snapped by Backgrid (seen below), which show Hunnam wearing Gein’s trademark flannel and sporting the close-cropped, slicked to the side haircut that can be seen in many photos taken of The Butcher of Plainfield after he was arrested in 1957. Dubbed The Original Monster for Season 3, the Netflix series also features Vicky Krieps, who can also be seen in the pics wearing a lavish yellow dress with a cowl.

A new image from the set of Monster season 3 reveals the first look at Sons of Anarchy alum Charlie Hunnam as the infamous serial killer Ed Gein. Following the big success of Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, which debuted on Netflix in September, it was announced that season 3 would focus on the killer Ed Gein. The third installment of the true-crime anthology is currently titled The Original Monster, with a supporting cast that so far includes Laurie Metcalf as Ed Geins mother, Tom Hollander as Alfred Hitchcock, and Olivia Williams as Alma Hitchcock.
AHS Zone shared a photo of Hunnam on X, which appears to show the actor smiling on the set of the Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan-created anthology. The photo is accompanied by a real-life, black-and-white image of Gein. In the set photo, Hunnam looks somewhat aged. He has short, gray hair which is combed over.

William Friedkin's 1973 horror classic The Exorcist is often thought of as a cursed film. The hysteria sparked at screenings, the rumors of disturbing behind-the-scenes events, and the exploitation of religious anxiety all combined into a reputation for real evil. This notoriety was amplified when the three-film Exorcist franchise drew fans such as the Zodiac Killer, the Gainesville Ripper, and Jeffrey Dahmer; stranger still, a real-life killer had a bit part in the first film.
Historically, horror has been a convenient scapegoat for public crises. After all, it is easier to ban a movie than to address the real causes of violence in society. However, when a storied franchise like The Exorcist attracts such infamous admirers, it becomes impossible not to take notice and the killers in question have also been linked to Scream, Cruising, and American Horror Story: NYC. There is no reason to believe that their crimes were inspired by these films,...

Ryan Murphy's controversial true crime anthology series, Monster, has been renewed for a third season on Netflix, and The Original Monster is tackling the terrifying case of Ed Gein. Launching in 2022 with Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, the series highlights a notorious true crime story from American history each season, and dramatizes real-life events with Murphy's signature over-the-top style. Season 1 was a smash-hit for Netflix, and though it garnered a fair amount of jeers for its tasteless content, a second season followed in 2024 that told the story of Erik and Lyle Menendez.
The controversies surrounding Dahmer didn't deflate its humongous viewership numbers, and it started a dialogue about the ethics of dramatized true crime content. Ryan Murphy has rarely missed in the sphere of TV, and the ongoing success of Monster proves that his anthology approach continues to be successful many years after the debut of American Horror Story.

The Real Housewives Of Salt Lake City just returned to Bravo for Season 5 previously-axed cast member Mary Cosby is back, too, and she recently shared a fascinating story about her father and Jeffrey Dahmer.
Admittedly, there is a lot to unpack there: Mary Cosby was very publicly let go from the show, after Andy Cohen said he was "very disappointed" over her decision to skip a reunion.
And so, Mary did not return properly until Season 5.
Jeffrey Dahmer was a notorious serial killer, who himself was murdered in prison given the horrifying nature of his crimes, Dahmer has unfortunately come to occupy a permanent place in popular culture.
On top of all of that, there's almost certainly significant crossover between reality TV fans and true crime buffs, and Mary's Jeffrey Dahmer story piqued viewers.

Ryan Murphy is one of the most successful mega-producers in Hollywood, having launched shows like Glee, American Horror Story, Dahmer, 9-1-1 and more. And he never stops: just recently, he's announced new shows like Doctor Odyssey, Grotesquerie, and The Beauty. That last one, to put it bluntly, is about a sexually transmitted disease that makes you super-hot...and then kills you. "It’s something I’ve never done before, which is a sci-fi medical show about a new virus that mutates and it’s sexually transmitted, that turns you into your absolute perfect self," Murphy told Variety. "And the question is, how far would you go to be beautiful? What would you sacrifice to that, and does that matter? That show was looking at, I call it the Ozempic culture. One little shot, and suddenly you’re going to look better and feel better, and all your problems are going to go away.

Even though Netflix has already renewed Ryan Murphy's Monster anthology season for a third season, the producer opened up about considering an addition to the most recent second season. Charlie Hunnam will star in Monster season 3 as Ed Gein, but with new developments in the Menendez brothers' case, season 2 could get a new episode or two.
On Oct. 3, news broke that Lyle and Erik Menendez earned a new court hearing set for Nov. 26, which could result in either a resentencing or a new trial. It's the first development in their case in nearly 30 years, coming on the heels of their case being reexamined on TikTok in the past few years and the release of Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story on Netflix in September.

Ryan Murphy has created many popular television series Glee, American Horror Story, and Nip/Tuck come to mind. He ventured out into true crime territory in 2022 with Dahmer Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, a ten-part limited series so popular it led to two more seasons, the second installment titled Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.
Per Netflix, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story is a real hit. Following its premiere on Thursday, Sept. 19, the series had 12.3 million views, translating into 97.5 million hours viewed in its first four days alone between Sept. 19 and Sept. 22. The next week was equally successful, with Monsters extending its No. 1 reign for a second week at the top of the charts. This time, it added 19.5 more million views, some 153.8 million hours viewed. As the numbers are very encouraging for Netflix and Murphy, they came nowhere near Dahmer.

Ryan Murphy doesn’t do things by half.
This is a man who launched and brought back six television shows over the last two weeks including ABC’s Joshua Jackson-fronted Doctor Odyssey, FX’s Grotesquerie featuring Niecy Nash and Travis Kelce, and Netflix’s Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story; has another launching later this month in FX’s American Horror Stories; and is heading straight into a run that includes All’s Fair, starring the likes of Kim Kardashian and Glenn Close, reuniting with Evan Peters in FX sci-fi series The Beauty and the first iteration of American Love Story about John F. Kennedy Jr.
The data shows that such an “intense” workload is paying off.
Netflix revealed earlier Tuesday that Monsters: The Lyle & Erik Menendez Story scored 19.5 million views in its first full week on the service, where it is No. 1, and totaling nearly 32M views since it launched.
