Wednesday season 1 holds the trophy for the most-viewed English-language TV show of all time, but Stranger Things season 4 previously held the #2 position. Stranger Things is, of course, not only one of the biggest Netflix shows but one of the most popular TV shows ever made, and its upcoming fifth season could shatter records. Netflix's streaming data is always fascinating to analyze, as the platform's algorithm has proven capable of launching anything from Bridgerton to Squid Game to The Tiger King into a cultural phenomenon over the weekend. After the runaway success of Netflix and Tim Burton’s Addams Family stand-alone series Wednesday starring Jenna Ortega, the streamer renewed it for a second season in January 2023. That decision came less than three months after the eight-episode Season 1 premiered. It eventually became the most-watched original series ever on the streamer, with more than 252 million views to date, far surpassing Stranger Things Season 4, Dahmer, and Season 1 of Bridgerton on the all-time list.

Season 1 received 12 Emmy nominations, including for Ortega in Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. She became just the third Latina ever to be nominated in a leading actress category. The series won four Emmys, though Ortega lost out to Abbott Elementary‘s Quinta Brunson on Emmy night.

According to Netflix, Adolescence is now the third-most popular English language Netflix show of all time, one spot behind Stranger Things season 4. Adolescence has racked up 124 million views since its premiere on March 13, only 17 million views, roughly, behind Stranger Things season 4.

Netflix tracks this data and shares it for a new show or season's first 13 weeks after release, so by my unofficial calculation, Adolescence has about seven or eight more weeks to rack up 17 million views, pass Stranger Things season 4, and settle in at the No. 2 spot on the all-time Netflix Top 10. Netflix shared that Adolescence racked up another 9 million views this week, so it's probably going to happen within the next two or three weeks.

Netflix didn’t just change how we watch TV — it flipped the whole system on its head. Before streaming, networks called the shots, and shows came out once a week (with commercials). Then Netflix came along, dropped full seasons at once, and basically told Hollywood, “We’re doing it our way.” It worked. Suddenly, people were binge-watching, studios were scrambling, and everyone had to rethink what “TV” even meant. Now, Netflix is the big kid on the block, still setting the pace, still stacked with some of the best series of the last decade. They even brought commercials back (time is a circle)! “Adolescence” has not stopped gaining steam. Last week, the U.K. limited series joined Netflix’s list of its most popular English-language series of all time last week at No. 9, knocking “Bridgerton” Season 2 off the list and pushing “Stranger Things” Season 3 down to No. 10. Now, “Adolescence” is in fourth place on the list with 114 million views in only 24 days.

The series is now only behind “Wednesday” Season 1 (252.1 million views), “Stranger Things” Season 4 (140.7 million views) and “Dahmer: Monster” (115.6 million) on the list. It appears likely to eventually usurp at least the “Stranger Things” and “Dahmer,” as Netflix measures this list based on 91 days of viewing for each title, so “Adolescence” still has more than two months to catch up.

17.8 million of the show’s 114 million-view total came during the May 31-April 6 viewing window, making it the No. 1 TV title of the week in its fourth week on Netflix.

In a shakeup to Netflix’s All-Time Top 10 list, “Carry-On,” the thriller starring Taron Egerton and Jason Bateman, is now the #5 most-watched English-language film in its first 91 days on the service.

In the process, “Carry-On” bumped fellow Netflix original film, Rian Johnson’s “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Story,” from the Top 10. Johnson will get his chance to make things right with his third “Knives Out” installment, “Wake Up Dead Man,” arriving later this year.

“Carry-On,” which was produced by Amblin Partners, debuted on the all-time Top 10 with 149.4 million views, and it managed to do so in less than four weeks, so it still has a lot of time to keep climbing. Back in September, it was announced that Evan Peters (Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story), Anthony Ramos (Twisters), Ashton Kutcher (That ’70s Show), and Jeremy Pope (Hollywood) are on board to star in The Beauty, the latest show that American Horror Story and Monster co-creator Ryan Murphy has in the works at FX. Now, Variety has broken the news that Rebecca Hall of Godzilla x Kong: New Empire has also joined the cast.

Filming on The Beauty is already underway. FX has given the show an 11 episode order. While the series is based on the Image Comics series of the same name by Jeremy Haun and Jason A. Hurley, plot and character details are being kept under wraps. So for now, we can only go by the description of the comic book series to get an idea of what the show is going to be like: Modern society is obsessed with outward beauty.

The one-man juggernaut that is Ryan Murphy announced earlier this year that the next season of his hit Netflix series, Monster, would focus on infamous serial killer Ed Gein, with Sons of Anarchy’s Charlie Hunnam in the lead role. Now, we have our first look at Hunnam in character, and the resemblance to Gein is so uncanny that we had to blink twice to make sure it wasn’t an AI clone.

What’s on Netflix recently shared a few photos snapped by Backgrid (seen below), which show Hunnam wearing Gein’s trademark flannel and sporting the close-cropped, slicked to the side haircut that can be seen in many photos taken of The Butcher of Plainfield after he was arrested in 1957. Dubbed The Original Monster for Season 3, the Netflix series also features Vicky Krieps, who can also be seen in the pics wearing a lavish yellow dress with a cowl.

A new image from the set of Monster season 3 reveals the first look at Sons of Anarchy alum Charlie Hunnam as the infamous serial killer Ed Gein. Following the big success of Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, which debuted on Netflix in September, it was announced that season 3 would focus on the killer Ed Gein. The third installment of the true-crime anthology is currently titled The Original Monster, with a supporting cast that so far includes Laurie Metcalf as Ed Geins mother, Tom Hollander as Alfred Hitchcock, and Olivia Williams as Alma Hitchcock.

AHS Zone shared a photo of Hunnam on X, which appears to show the actor smiling on the set of the Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan-created anthology. The photo is accompanied by a real-life, black-and-white image of Gein. In the set photo, Hunnam looks somewhat aged. He has short, gray hair which is combed over.

A new Tron film is underway, over a decade since the last entry, Tron: Legacy. Planned as a standalone sequel, Tron: Ares, has officially unveiled a first proper look at the upcoming sci-fi film.

In an interview with Empire, director Joachim Rnning teased what to expect from the upcoming installment, and promised the film will still maintain humanity at the core of the film while unveiling a better look at the new red suit. At the same time, it further hyped one of the most exciting parts of the film: the soundtrack. “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” debuted in the top spot of Nielsen’s streaming charts.

The second installment in Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s “Monsters” anthology series logged 1.716 billion viewing minutes on Netflix in the first four days after its Sept. 19 release, becoming the No. 1 most-watched streaming program during the interval between Sept. 16-22. During the same interval, Netflix reported the series had logged 12.3 million views (97.5 million hours viewed), scoring the top spot on the streamer’s most-watched TV list.

While “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” certainly had a strong opening weekend, it opened to a smaller streaming audience than the first “Monster” installment, titled “Dahmer,” which scored 3.6 billion minutes in its premiere week in September 2022.

Ryan Murphy's controversial true crime anthology series, Monster, has been renewed for a third season on Netflix, and The Original Monster is tackling the terrifying case of Ed Gein. Launching in 2022 with Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, the series highlights a notorious true crime story from American history each season, and dramatizes real-life events with Murphy's signature over-the-top style. Season 1 was a smash-hit for Netflix, and though it garnered a fair amount of jeers for its tasteless content, a second season followed in 2024 that told the story of Erik and Lyle Menendez.

The controversies surrounding Dahmer didn't deflate its humongous viewership numbers, and it started a dialogue about the ethics of dramatized true crime content. Ryan Murphy has rarely missed in the sphere of TV, and the ongoing success of Monster proves that his anthology approach continues to be successful many years after the debut of American Horror Story.

Following the unprecedented viewership success of Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story with its release on Netflix in September 2022, the streaming service renewed the controversial anthology series about infamous killers received a renewal for not one but two more seasons.

The first installment of that two-season pickup arrived two years later in September 2024 with the premiere of Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story. Staying in line with the previous offering, the new series centered on the Menendez brothers has already received criticism for its portrayals of the story and some creative decisions that were made.

As for the second installment of the two-season pickup, Netflix has officially named Ed Gein as the new monster at the center of season 3, and Ryan Murphy revealed the season will be titled The Original Monster. While details about the upcoming Monster season 3 are still coming in, here's what fans should know so far!

Airing Wednesdays on FX, Grotesquerie follows Detective Lois, who, in addition to facing familial issues at home, believes that a serial killer has set out to antagonize her. She hesitantly teams up with Sister Megan, hoping that her expertise can be an asset to the case. Together, the women become a surprising, yet powerful, duo who set out to end the string of murders that have tainted their small town.

Grotesquerie is written and created by Ryan Murphy, Jon Robin Baitz, and Joe Baken, and stars Emmy Award-winner Niecy Nash-Betts. The rest of the main cast includes Courtney B. Vance, Lesley Manville, Micaela Diamond, Nicholas Alexander Chavez, Raven Goodwin, and Travis Kelce. Chavez and Diamond share that they are drawn to any series helmed by Murphy, with the latter also interested in the unlikely friendship between her character and Nash-Betts'.

A third season of Netflix's Monster series is in the works with Sons of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam playing notorious murderer Ed Gein. The season will follow previous seasons that explored the stories of Jeffrey Dahmer and the Menendez brothers.

In an interview with Collider, series co-creator Ryan Murphy explained why Gein was chosen as the real-life killer who serves as the focus of the third season of Monster. He shared that the idea came from discussions with co-creator Ian Brennan, as the two realized that Gein was essentially the first American serial killer to be turned into a "crazy celebrity" of sorts. Murphy pointed out how Gein's crimes influenced several celebrated genre films and he was intrigued by telling the story of how the "Butcher of Plainfield" came to be.

Per Netflix, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story is a real hit. Following its premiere on Thursday, Sept. 19, the series had 12.3 million views, translating into 97.5 million hours viewed in its first four days alone between Sept. 19 and Sept. 22. The next week was equally successful, with Monsters extending its No. 1 reign for a second week at the top of the charts. This time, it added 19.5 more million views, some 153.8 million hours viewed. As the numbers are very encouraging for Netflix and Murphy, they came nowhere near Dahmer.

This is a man who launched and brought back six television shows over the last two weeks including ABC’s Joshua Jackson-fronted Doctor Odyssey, FX’s Grotesquerie featuring Niecy Nash and Travis Kelce, and Netflix’s Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story; has another launching later this month in FX’s American Horror Stories; and is heading straight into a run that includes All’s Fair, starring the likes of Kim Kardashian and Glenn Close, reuniting with Evan Peters in FX sci-fi series The Beauty and the first iteration of American Love Story about John F. The data shows that such an “intense” workload is paying off.

Netflix revealed earlier Tuesday that Monsters: The Lyle & Erik Menendez Story scored 19.5 million views in its first full week on the service, where it is No. 1, and totaling nearly 32M views since it launched.
