Chris Brown was formally sentenced in a Los Angeles courtroom Tuesday (August 25) stemming from his February altercation with then-girlfriend Rihanna.
The terms of the plea deal the singer agreed to last month in the case are largely the same, including 180 days of community labor work, a year of domestic-abuse counseling and five years' probation. The judge, however, did not lift the protective order issued against Brown, warning him that he must stay away from Rihanna for five years, until August 25, 2014, when his probation period is over.
Chris Brown Arrives For His Sentencing
Judge Patricia Schnegg then told Brown she is not one to believe hearsay, but she informed the singer she was "not immune from the chatter that has been...

Five years ago, one of the greatest and most controversial entertainers in a generation died. Rick James, who helped bring R&B and funk to the masses and inspired an early wave of hip-hop with songs like "Super Freak" and "Give It to Me Baby," died of heart failure August 6, 2004. Following his struggle with drugs and a stint in jail, James received a second wave of popularity when he appeared on an episode of "Chappelle's Show" and Chappelle turned the phrase "I'm Rick James, bitch!" into a household phrase.
But his real legacy is being carried on by daughter Ty. In the five years since her father's passing, she...

Chris Brown is to be sentenced to five years probation and 180 days of community labor after reaching a plea bargain. The 20-year-old singer - who pleaded guilty to felony assault Monday in relation to his altercation with Rihanna on February 8 - reached the deal shortly before he was due in court in Los Angeles.
The bargain meant Rihanna, who had been subpoenaed to appear in court, did not have to give evidence against her on/off boyfriend.
Chris' attorney Mark Geragos said: "He's very thankful to all the people who've been very supportive. This is a kid who's never been in trouble before, who wants to move past this and make sure that the message gets out that these kinds of things, of domestic violence, are not acceptable. And that he has accepted responsibility and continues to do so and embraces this as an opportunity for him to get his...

You may have forgotten about Apple's tiny, wireless iPod-linked in-shoe pedometer, the Nike+, but the runners who've chalked up 100 million miles haven't. And neither has Nike--it just partnered with De La Soul to release a new album.
Are You In?: Nike+ Original Run is the group's first original material in five years, and it's going to be an iTunes exclusive. Seeing one of hip-hop's most influential acts drop its latest tracks on marathoners is certainly unexpected. Is it a sign of desperation, or smarts?
The press release doesn't make much of a case for the smarts: it's filled with terrible marketing cliches. The band is "psyched" to provide some "sonic fuel" to get "bodies moving." The partnership with Nike isn't exactly new for the band--they've previously designed signature versions of the Dunk Sb shoe, and performed at Nike events. This was a natural extension: "When an opportunity presents itself,...

We are still putting up our SXSW features, and the latest to go up on our SXSW page is Alicia Van Couvering's interview with Kristian Fraga and Mike Scotti of the Iraq war doc Severe Clear. Fraga is the director and editor, and Scotti is both subject and cameraman as the film follows him and his fellow soldiers of the 1st Batallion, 4th Marines as the 2003 invasion of Baghdad begins. Writes Van Couvering: We first meet Mike and his unit in a desert camp, where they drink too much, curse too much, make gay jokes and fart jokes, shoot guns at stuff and otherwise prepare for war. It’s unsettling to see these men acting like such silly meatheads because, like the happy couple at the beginning of a horror film, you know what’s coming for them....

Britney Spears wants to marry again in "five years" time. The 27-year-old singer - who is divorced from second husband Kevin Federline, and had her 2005 marriage to Jason Alexander annulled after just 55 hours - is keen to wed for a third time despite her bad experiences.
She told America's Glamour magazine: "In five years I would like to be married and have a father figure for my kids, someone who is a provider and can be really stable."
Britney - whose sons Sean Preston, three, and Jayden James, two, live with their father Kevin - also appeared to blast the rapper's parenting ability, adding: "It's hard doing it on your own."
The "Womanizer" singer revealed she finds it hard to be taken seriously, because people can't look beyond the public breakdown she suffered earlier this year.
