Eddie Driscoll, the veteran character actor who appeared on shows including Sex and the City, Boston Public, Entourage, Mad Men, The Last Ship and This Is Us, has died. He was 60.

Driscoll died Dec. 15 in Los Angeles from a saddle pulmonary embolism after months of fighting stomach cancer, actor Jimmy Palumbo announced.

Driscoll had a recurring role as East Coast leader Randall Croft in 2016 on the TNT sci-fi series The Last Ship, and he portrayed the loan shark Angelo “Gyp” DeCarlo in a West Coast touring company of Jersey Boys.

Driscoll also showed up on episodes of Days of Our Lives, Tracey Takes On …, The King of Queens, Cold Case, 24, Heroes, CSI: Miami and CSI: NY, 24, Medium, Heroes and Desperate Housewives and in films including Lansky (1999), Boat Trip (2002), Pavement (2002), Cellular (2004) and Blast (2004).

The “Fantasy Island” reboot at Fox has cast Roselyn Sanchez in the show’s lead role, Variety has learned.

Sanchez will star as Elena Roarke, a descendant of Mr. Roarke from the original series. Elena set aside her own ambitions, and even the love of her life, to uphold her family’s legacy. Sophisticated, insightful and always charming, Elena’s calm exterior masks the challenges of the responsibilities she has assumed as steward of this mysterious island.

One of those comedies so incessantly and aggressively unfunny that you begin to wonder whether that’s the joke, documentary director Zak Knutson’s first narrative feature “Supercon” is a poor stab at Christopher Guest-style ensemble antics combined with a rote heist plot. The Comic Con-esque setting ought to be a rich target for satire, but life is full of missed opportunities, and this turns out to be one of them. Not to be confused with the concurrent “Supertroopers 2” — though one suspects theater owners would love it if you did — this film will no doubt pass quickly through hardtops, doing somewhat better in a home-formats launch that also commences April 27.

A former child star on an ’80s TV show, Keith Mahar (Russell Peters) is now a disillusioned adult, and makes a bare living reluctantly attending fan conventions. (Why he hasn’t tried finding another career is a question never raised here.

1. “To the Bone” (available July 14)

Marti Noxon’s feature directorial debut was a hit out of Sundance, where the Lily Collins-starring drama about eating disorders won over audiences for its nimble ability to tell a compelling dramatic story interspersed with well-earned humor. Sketched from Noxon’s own experiences with anorexia and bolstered by a star turn from the always-reliable Collins, the film is both important and entertaining, and it should be able to reach a very wide audience on the streaming platform. Do not miss it.

2. “Punch-Drunk Love” (available July 1)

Paul Thomas Anderson’s lauded 2002 romantic dramedy features Adam Sandler in one of his few “hey, this guy can really act!” roles and includes some of the auteur’s most indelible shots and richest observations about life and love. It’s a modern classic, and now it can be piped right into your home. I’m lookin’ at your Netflix queue and I just wanna smash it. I just wanna fuckin’ smash it with a sledgehammer and squeeze it. It’s so pretty.

3. “Chasing Coral” (available July 14)

Jeff Orlowski won the U.S. Documentary Audience Award at Sundance earlier this year for his newest feature, a stunning documentary about the fight to protect coral reefs from becoming extinct. Featuring breathtaking and distressing underwater footage, the movie puts into perspective just how endangered coral reefs are and tracks the effort to save them.

4. “Lion” (available July 9)

This heart-wrenching true story was an awards season juggernaut earlier this year, featuring stellar turns from Nicole Kidman and Dev Patel. Based on the unbelievable life of young Saroo Brierley, the feature follows his separation from his family and his startling trip back to them many years later, aided by — for real — Google Maps and his own indomitable heart. Bring tissues.

5. “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” (available July 18)

The very first standalone “Star Wars” spinoff follows a motley crew of rogues, criminals, rebels, and scallawags as they attempt to steal the plans to the monstrous Death Star in a bid to really just totally stick it to the Empire and Darth Vader. Knowing how it ends — they get them! and…some other stuff, too! — doesn’t dilute its tension and creativity, and it features a banger of an ensemble cast. Let this one tide you over before the next entry in the rapidly expanding movie universe.

6. “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial” (available July 1)

The early part of the month is heavy on kid-leaning classics, from “Free Willy” to “The Mighty Ducks,” but it’s hard to top the potency of Steven Spielberg’s 1982 classic. Gather the whole family around the TV and get heavy on the Reese’s Pieces, and enjoy one of the best films ever made about childhood, friendship, and letting go.

Switzerland – Of all the breathless hype that comes with each new James Bond movie, the man who played Bond the longest (and in the most films) is often forgotten. Sir Roger Moore – he was knighted for his charity work – portrayed Bond from 1972 to 1985, and died in Switzerland on May 22, 2017. He was 89.

The roguish Moore portrayed Britain’s most famous spy with a air of sophistication and humor, eschewing the harder edge that the first Bond, Sean Connery, had established. From the first film, “Live and Let Die” (1972) to 13 years later with “A View to a Kill,” Moore defined Bond for a generation of 1970s and ‘80s filmgoers. He had been an established British TV actor before taking on his most famous role, and even made inroads in America on the popular series “Maverick” in 1960.

It’s with a heavy heart that we bring you news that Sir Roger Moore, seven-time James Bond star, has passed away at the age of 89 following a “short but brave battle with cancer.”

Moore, who first picked up his 007 license for Live and Let Die in ’73, died in Switzerland on Tuesday morning. His close family issued a statement to Sky News, which reads as so: “It is with a heavy heart that we must announce our loving father Sir Roger Moore has passed away in Switzerland after a short but brave battle with cancer.”

He is survived by Kristina “Kiki” Tholstru; a daughter, actress Deborah Moore; and two sons, Geoffrey and Christian Moore, who have established a presence in the industry as an actor and film producer respectively.

In the same way that you can’t separate some actors or actresses from a great role, you can’t separate others from a poor one. And while it might seem harsh to disregard a performer for one role out of many, sometimes they’re so hate-worthy that you just can’t help it.

Most of the actors and actresses on this list, with a few exceptions, have good roles on their CV, both before and after the ones in question. Music is a powerful thing. It can be used to express authority or portray identity. The very act of playing music defines us, as both performers or listeners. That relationship we have with it makes for two extremely powerful soundtracks currently accompanying movies in UK cinemas: Inside Llewyn Davis and 12 Years a Slave.

"Play me something from Inside Llewyn Davis," manager Bud Grossman (F. Murray Abraham) challenges Oscar Isaac's lead in the middle of the Coen brothers' film. Llewyn responds with The Death of Queen Jane, an old ballad from the 1500s that recounts the tale of King Henry losing his wife, Jane Seymour, to gain a son. It's not a happy song.

It's also a clear statement from Llewyn: he's not afraid of sadness.

The TV channel that targets black audiences celebrated its first anniversary today by disclosing the agreement — along with other pacts designed to boost its appeal to viewers and advertisers. The arrangement with Lionsgate will enable Bounce TV to air movies including Halle Berry’s Monster’s Ball, Cuba Gooding, Jr.’s Boat Trip and Murder Of Crows, and Terrence Howard and Bernie Mac’s Pride. Park City, Utah — Underneath the blizzard-like conditions that blanketed Park City on Saturday night, the Bing Bar was packed with hundreds of people waiting for a chance to catch Drake give a rare stripped-down, intimate performance.

The delay-inducing snowstorm coupled with an open bar made for a fickle audience. Comedian Aziz Ansari opened the show with material about relationships that would have normally served as a nice amuse-bouche to Drake's emotive content. But much to the chagrin of the "Parks and Recreation" star, the audience talked through most of the set. The most entertaining part of the 10-minute set came when an unprompted Cuba Gooding Jr. ran onstage to instruct the audience to "Shut the f--- up." An...

So, this happened. When asking Cuba Gooding Jr. what scary movie made him scream (we were at the Scream Awards, after all) he responded by making fun of Boat Trip, a comedy flop he made in 2003 that currently has a 7% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Yes, it’s terrible, and even Cuba knows it. The Oscar winner was accompanied by his Red Tails co-stars Nate Parker and Elijah Kelley, and his answer made everyone in the entire room go nuts with laughter. Everyone, that is, but Red Tails writer/producer/Hollywood mega-legend George Lucas.

Guys, George Lucas was there!

I should add, the entire crew spoke passionately about their work on Red Tails, which tells the story of the Tuskegee Airmen of World War II. Check out the trailer and go see it. And maybe give Boat Trip a rent, too. For Cuba’s sake.

Notice anything that they all have in common – other than the fact that most of them are quite good?

They're all set in the past – as is J. Edgar, an upcoming movie directed by Clint Eastwood and written by Dustin Lance Black that is getting considerable buzz, and the upcoming James Franco movie, The Broken Tower.

Meanwhile, over the same period, many of the TV movies that have made the biggest impression – Prayers for Bobby, Pedro, An Englishman in New York – have also been set in the past.

He moves into a hotel and heads for a local bar to drown his considerable sorrows. There, he meets Jonas Arbor (Cuba Gooding Jr), a disgruntled but none the less deadly assassin, who eventually persuades Campbell to scribble down a list of the five people he would like to have killed. Thinking it all to be a big joke and with his far from sharp wits further blunted by a steady stream of bourbon, Campbell assembles the list on a napkin. The next day, the bodies start to pile up and Campbell has a race on his hands to try to stop the killing before it reaches its conclusion with the death of his wife.

This week is the final airing of the syndicated movie review program At The Movies, marking a true end-of-an-era for those of us who grew up eagerly anticipating the weekly thumb wrestling of critics Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert.

In September of 1975 Chicago Tribune writer Gene and Chicago Sun-Times writer Roger were reluctantly paired for the monthly PBS show Opening Soon at A Theater Near You, which ran for two seasons before being renamed Sneak Previews.

The show became a huge hit for PBS, which decided to syndicate it with Gene and Roger remaining as hosts until 1982, when contract negotiations fell through. They were replaced by liberal commentator Neal Gabler and human block of wood Jeffrey Lyons, who would become best known for siring a quote whore (more on that later.)

HollywoodLife.com has learned that 16-year-old sailor Abby Sunderland was forced to leave her home port of Marina del Rey, Calif., on Jan. 23 even though it would mean she’d be heading into the most dangerous time to sail in the Southern Hemisphere’s Indian Ocean, or else she would have lost a major sponsor. “There was a time crunch. She had to leave by Jan. 31,” reveals Ted Caloroso, the cinematographer who was working with the Sunderland family in their quest to sell a reality show.

Roger Moore is returning to the big screen in a movie about the making of John Wayne's classic "The Quiet Man". The Bond legend hasn't appeared in a film since 2002's "Boat Trip", choosing instead to lend his famous voice to animated movies in recent years.

But Moore will take on double duties in the new project, acting as star and executive producer for the film, which will be set in 1950s Ireland, where Wayne and Maureen O'Hara shot their scenes for the popular 1952 movie.

The 82-year-old British actor tells Britain's Daily Express, " 'The Quiet Man' is one of my all-time favorite films. The opportunity to revisit the time when Hollywood arrived in Ireland to shoot it was simply too delicious to miss."...

There’s no end of blogging about wrong-headed Oscar wins. The litany of complaints about “Shakespeare in Love” winning over “Saving Private Ryan,” or “Forrest Gump” over “Pulp Fiction,” or “The Greatest Show on Earth” over any of the other nominees that year, not to mention how Gwyneth Paltrow won over Cate Blanchett for “Shakespeare,” or Costner over Scorsese for “Dances with Wolves.”

Sometimes, though, the win is totally justified; it’s the body of work after the win that drags the winner down, and makes you wonder if maybe the Oscar win wasn’t just some sort of one-trick point, a gold-plated piece of lightning in a bottle. From Oscar-winning supporting roles to direct-to-dvd garbage to Boat Trip (which deserved a category of its own), Cuba Gooding, Jr. has maintained (somehow) a diverse, if not shaky career. Linewatch, his latest soon-to-be-found-in-the-two-dollar-sale-bin effort, is a surprisingly enjoyable thriller destined to be overlooked (as I’m fairly certain branding your DVD cover with Gooding Jr’s name doesn’t rake in the cash). The story of a Border Patrol Officer from New Mexico whose shady past catches up with him, Linewatch delivers a creepy, pensive style, a handful of decent performances and enough low-budget action moments to keep us interested.

LONDON -- U.K. sales and financier Intandem Films has teamed with producer Chris Chrisafis to relaunch the quintessentially British Carry On comedies, the company said Tuesday. The first project, in preproduction, will be Carry On London and is set to shoot in and around the U.K. capital in the summer. Led by director Peter Richardson, best known for the cult hit TV comedy project The Comic Strip Presents ... , the filmmakers have signed a bevy of British household names, headlined by Shane Richie (Flushed Away) and Vinnie Jones (Snatch), and also have secured the acting talents of former Miss Sweden, blonde bombshell Victoria Silvstedt (Boat Trip).

Oscar-winner Cuba Gooding Jr. has slammed movie bosses who refuse to give black actors the same opportunities as their white colleagues. The actor also argues that when a good African-American role comes up in Hollywood, it is automatically given to Will Smith. Cuba, 34, says, "I'll never forget when Will Smith came off TV and did his first movie and nobody really paid attention to him. "Then he did Independence Day and it made all this money and boom - he was the go-to guy. And they didn't see it as, 'Let's set a black man up', they saw him as a way to bring the people to the audience. "To this day I speak to my agent about these great roles and he's like, 'They're all going to Will Smith.'" Gooding, after the success of early films like Boyz N The Hood and Jerry Maguire, has recently appeared in critical and commercial flops like 2002's Boat Trip, whilst Smith has starred in the hit Bad Boys and Men In Black franchises, as well as the acclaimed Ali.

Movie stars Colin Firth and Kelly Preston are rebelling against plans to stage the premiere of their new movie What A Girl Wants during wartime by pulling out of press junkets for the film. The movie is one of only a few that is going ahead with a glitzy premiere this week. Parties for Basic and Boat Trip have been scrapped out of respect for troops in Iraq. But Brit Firth, who plays a stuck-up aristocrat who discovers he has an American love child in the film, is refusing to fly to America for promotional duties and Preston, his former flame in the movie, has also pulled out of junkets.

Gay rights campaigners are organizing a boycott of Cuba Gooding Jr. movie Boat Trip - angered by the film's portrayal of homosexuality. The Jerry Maguire Oscar-winner stars as a straight man who accidentally boards a gay cruise, in the camp comedy - which is due for release in the US on Friday. But members of America's gay community are so incensed by sneak previews of the flick - which also stars former 007 Roger Moore as the camp cruise captain - they are encouraging others to vote with their feet and stay away from screenings. One visitor to website Datalounge wrote, "I plan to boycott this. Saw the trailer right before Daredevil and groaned. I slouched in my seat expecting the audience to shout 'fags' and 'homos' while laughing, but surprisingly everyone was just kind of like what the f*k?" Another adds, "I'm not normally touchy, but the trailer included some of the most offensive, gay stereotyping I've ever seen. Either the commercial overplays the mincing, effeminate gay angle or the movie deserves to be picketed." Movie makers Artisan have leapt to the film's defense. In an official statement a spokesperson told US gossip site The Scoop they had "consulted with many openly gay individuals, including the film's casting director and GLAAD (the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation), in an effort to insure that its setting, subject matter and characters were fair and not offensive to any particular group while maintaining the film's comedic nature." Furthermore, Scott Seomin, a spokesman for GLAAD, insists he was not offended by the film. He told The Scoop, "There are stereotypes in the film. But I've been on a gay cruise and Speedo-clad muscle boys are on those ships."...
