Adam Sandler may not be the first person who comes to mind when one thinks of a Quentin Tarantino character, but in some ways, the collaboration would have made so much sense. Both creators have a tendency to go off the usual path at times, and Sandler has proven his mettle as a serious actor in films like Punch-Drunk Love and Uncut Gems.
Sandler reportedly almost joined Tarantino’s revisionist historical black comedy Inglorious Basterds. The actor was reportedly excited to work on the film as the character is one of the most badass ones to come out of the modern classic. However, he had to let it go to work on his friend Judd Apatow’s Funny People.

Hollywood A-listers or TikTok trendsetters, who’s got the bigger paycheck in 2024? Once upon a time, movie stars ruled the money game, cashing in on blockbuster deals and hefty backend profits. But now? Influencers are out here flipping viral dances and skincare routines into multi-million-dollar empires. It’s not just about red carpets anymore; it’s about brand deals, merch drops, and engagement rates.
While actors still pull in jaw-dropping salaries, think Robert Downey Jr.’s levels of wealth, the influencer economy is a whole different beast. A viral post can make more money in a day than some actors do in a whole season. With platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube offering monetization goldmines, top influencers are stacking their bank accounts faster than Hollywood can greenlight a sequel.

So, who’s actually winning the money race?...

It’s hard to believe now but before taking 12 long years to follow 1987’s Full Metal Jacket with Eyes Wide Shut in 1999, the famously meticulous Stanley Kubrick was comparatively prolific — in the ’60s alone he released four of his 13 features. In these days of instant gratification, a director taking longer than three years is either deemed to be M.I.A. or about to pop up with a secret film made entirely under the radar. But absence does make the heart grow fonder, and these five directors can expect a warm welcome in 2025.

If Steven Yeun had decided to pursue law or medical science rather than acting, the cinematic world would have missed out on a gem of an actor. Born in Seoul, South Korea, Yeun is an American actor who has delivered acclaimed performances in the popular television series The Walking Dead, Bong Joon-ho’s Okja, and Lee Chang-dong’s Burning. He is the first Asian American actor to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor. In 2023, he starred in the dark comedy series Beef (2023), for which he won two Primetime Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe Award. Most recently, he reunited with Bong Joon-ho for his latest sci-fi satire Mickey 17.
With such a list of great honors, it’s undoubted that Yeun is one of the best actors in the film industry. Apart from being a great actor, his script choice is also commendable. The actor discussed his Criterion favorites,...

The romantic comedy may not be the dominant, inescapable genre in modern Hollywood that it once was, but that doesn’t mean the opportunity to watch two actors humorously fall in love onscreen has lost its appeal. On the contrary, the impulse to turn on a classic rom-com and let the laughs (and sometimes tears) come doesn’t seem to have faded from the culture nearly as much as Hollywood’s increasingly homogeneous theatrical output would have you believe.
In the moments when that impulse comes, you may find yourself in the mood for a rom-com with sharper jokes and even more passionate bursts of romance than you can typically find in the genre’s many PG-13 entries. With that in mind, here are the 10 best R-rated rom-coms for when you want to watch one that’s a bit darker, lewder or — in some cases — sexier than usual.

The Academy Awards are the most prestigious ceremony in Hollywood and are tasked with recognizing the greatest achievements in cinema within a given year. While the ceremony allows the cast and crew of films to be recognized by a community of their peers, it also serves as a great opportunity to showcase the art of filmmaking to a larger audience. While the Oscars don’t always recognize the single greatest film each year, they generally make good decisions by honoring projects that are worthy of accolades.
Unfortunately, the Best Picture lineup each year tends to have at least one film that is clearly not of the same quality level as its fellow competitors. This issue has grown even more prevalent due to a change that occurred at the 2010 Academy Awards ceremony, in which the lineup was extended to ten nominees. Before indulging in some negativity, it’s best to emphasize that Adam Sandler has indeed been in some good movies over the decades. Some of his best films happen to be a little more dramatic, like Punch-Drunk Love, which is a dramedy, and Uncut Gems, which is more of a crime movie with some dark/uncomfortable comedy. But his broader comedies can also be good, as shown by the genuinely sweet and well-made The Wedding Singer.

It’s unbelievable to learn that it has been almost 30 years since Happy Gilmore graced fans with its comedic presence in theaters and at home. The 1996 sports comedy was one of Adam Sandler’s first, before he had formed Happy Madison Productions, which went on to become a juggernaut in the movie business. The cast is made up of mostly familiar faces, many of whom went on to star in huge projects, including Sandler himself.
With a sequel film coming out this year, and many of the original cast members reprising their roles, fans are excited at the prospect of seeing the title character and his hockey-inspired golf style once again. But it also makes fans curious what the cast members have been up to in the last almost three decades, notably the ones who aren’t the most known figures.

Most folks seek escapism when going to the movies, while others get off on seeing other people’s anxiety, drawing either catharsis or comedy from the idea that someone else has it worse. Sporting a poisoned-fortune-cookie title like “If I Had Legs I’d Kick You,” there can be little question as to which category best describes Mary Bronstein’s stress-fueled second feature. With her husband away and her daughter hooked up to a constantly beeping medical device, exasperated Linda (Rose Byrne) may be going out of her mind, but Bronstein puts us squarely inside it, as the walls close in, the ceiling collapses and the floor buckles beneath her.
An A24 release forged in much the same mold as “Good Time” or “Uncut Gems” (which Bronstein’s partner Ronnie co-wrote), the Safdie-esque — but refreshingly female-centered — indie movie could be “Mommy No-Legs” to those guys’ crazy-making “Daddy Longlegs”: a...

Remember the time when you were just a toddler making sense of the world? The world was a different place back then; going to movies with your family was one of your favorite outings. However, family-friendly releases have been steadily on the decline over the years, and finding a good watch is like looking for a needle in a haystack. But quite surprisingly, A24 is venturing into the genre, with the fantasy feature The Legend of Ochi.
Known mostly for its adult-oriented projects, The Legend of Ochi is A24’s attempt to bring back the same comfort and familiarity when watching a film like Steven Spielberg’s E.T. or Joe Dante’s Gremlins. The poster for the film and the first trailer which has been out for a few weeks, will definitely give you that feeling, especially with the adorable monster or Ochi, who might just become the next Grogu.

Jules Feiffer, a screenwriter, playwright and cartoonist perhaps most famous for contributing the screenplay to Mike Nichols’ “Carnal Knowledge,” has died at the age of 95. His wife confirmed the news to The Washington Post on Tuesday.
When Feiffer was 17, he became the assistant to cartoonist Will Eisner, often helping with writing and drawing on strips. This included working on Eisner’s groundbreaking comic, “The Spirit.” In 1956, he started drawing a comic strip for the Village Voice, which he would do for the next four decades. In 1986, Feiffer won the Pulitzer Prize for his cartoon work and, in 2004, was inducted into the Comic Book Hall of Fame.
In the 1960s, Feiffer started writing plays and movies, including “Little Murders” (which he later adapted into a movie directed by Alan Arkin) and “Carnal Knowledge,” a project that was meant to be a play until Nichols decided to make it a movie in...

One of Adam Sandler's most underrated and divisive comedies is finally returning to streaming this February. Sandler's run of comedies from 1995 to 2008 is nothing short of legendary. Within that time, the actor and writer released Happy Gilmore, The Wedding Singer, The Waterboy, Punch-Drunk-Love, 50 First Dates, The Longest Yard, and You Don't Mess with the Zohan (this writer's personal favorite). But, the film that kicked it all off was Billy Madison, and it's finally coming back to streaming.
Billy Madison arrives on Hulu on Feb. 1; it was directed by Tamra Davis, and co-written by Sandler and Tim Herlihy (Happy Gilmore) and is one of Sandler's most underrated comedies. Released in 1995, the film follows 27-year-old Billy Madison (Sandler) who is set to take over his father's hotel empire. However, his father (Darren McGavin) has one demand before he inherits the fortune: for his son to go back and finish school.

Netflix has a great way of churning out excellent original series. The films the streamer does can be great, too. Or some of them can be purely fluff.
The great thing about having a Netflix subscription, though, is that you don't only need to see Netflix Originals. You see a whole scope of movies made by other studios. That can be both good and bad.
But writing optimistically, there are 12 examples below of why you should be grateful to have a Netflix subscription. Each of these films is a winner. You will not be disappointed.
12 movies you should not miss streaming on Netflix in January 2025Paddington 2
Paddington 2 is a perfect movie. This is not written as a fan of children's films solely, as the film is entertaining for people of all ages. There are enough heart-warming moments, more than enough laughs, and a bad guy played wonderfully by Hugh Grant.

Uncut Gems, the Adam Sandler thriller with a whopping 91% score on Rotten Tomatoes, has landed on streaming. The 2019 film directed by Benny Safdie and Josh Safdie has been added to Tubi, the platform that requires not a single dime and where you can watch movies and TV shows absolutely for free, if you're willing to take a few unexpected breaks, as Tubi cuts to ads unexpectedly, regardless of if the movie is at its most exciting moment. No matter what mood, situation, or place you’re in, comedy movies can never be a bad idea, because everyone likes to have a good laugh. But sadly, people often confuse comedy films with loudmouthed slapstick humor that is known to dominate the screen. And perhaps this is why the genre of comedy is gradually fading away into oblivion.
With more people looking for drama and action films, comedy is getting sidelined in the world of entertainment. So before the classic sense of humor wanes completely, let’s take a look at 15 underrated comedies including—endearing rom-com, wry dramedy, action-comedy, and more—that’s worth every bit of your attention.

Because the world is a cruel place to beautiful souls like Adam Sandler, Ariana Grande can’t get through The Waterboy without some waterworks.
On paper, the story of The Waterboy and Bobby Boucher is practically a tragedy — a young man grows up in a repressive religious household raised by a traumatized and manipulative single mother, and his only escape from this rural, swampy poverty is through channeling his deep-seated pain and rage into physical violence that’s exploited for entertainment purposes.
Honestly, a critical read of the Sandler classic could interpret The Waterboy as an indictment of America’s obsession with violence, our insufficient education system and the controlling nature of fundamentalist Christianity in rural communities.
Maybe that’s why the pop star Grande weeps when she sees Boucher victimized onscreen, as she revealed in a recent interview clip that demands a watch after Nikki Glaser made beautiful celebrities...

Stephen King is an opinionated fellow. Stroll through the fiction aisles of your local bookstore and examine the covers of newish novels, and you probably won't have to search long to find one bearing praise from Stephen King -- which is touching because, in this age of distracted everything, it's nice to see one of the world's most prominent authors exhorting people to lose themselves in a book.
King isn't always a ray of sunshine though. He's infamous for his dislike of Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining" film adaptation, and hasn't held back on other cinematic interpretations of his novels. And when Entertainment Weekly started giving King column space in its printed pages back in the mid 2000s to rant and rave about all things pop culture, he was unsparing with his hatred for the latest music by Jewel, Beyoncé, and Celine Dion while also unloading both barrels on prestige...

The ending of the new Netflix sci-fi adventure movie Spaceman is somewhat ambiguous, especially regarding the fate of Adam Sandler's Jakub protagonist. The unique and existential Spaceman was directed by Johan Renck, known for his exceptional work on Chernobyl (2019), Breaking Bad (2009–2011), The Walking Dead (2010), Vikings (2013), and Bloodline (2015). Despite Renck's impressive filmography, Spaceman has received mixed reviews from critics off the bat, earning a Rotten Tomatoes score of just 50%.

For decades, Adam Sandler has been one of Hollywood's biggest stars, churning out hit comedy after hit comedy despite the less than stellar reputation a lot of them might have. His '90s run is one of his career high points with an impressive group of films that include Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, The Wedding Singer, The Waterboy, and Big Daddy. Most of these films work so well solely because of Sandler's work in them.
Looking at Adam Sandler's best films overall tells a much different story, though. Under all the over-the-top comedic antics, Sandler's ability to bring out incredible dramatic performances is what helps to set him apart for so long in his career. Even his upcoming run of films would make no sense for most actors, but that is what makes Adam Sandler so interesting as an actor.

Adam Sandler has had one of the most enviable careers in show business since first appearing as Smitty on The Cosby Show in 1987. He has a list of comedy credits a mile long with many hits (and some flops that nonetheless provided him a vacation with his friends), and he's become a respected dramatic actor thanks to films like Punch-Drunk Love and Uncut Gems. On top of that, he's still a beloved stand-up comic who has released material for more than 30 years, including this year's excellent Netflix special, Love You.
However, despite this massive career, you'd be hard-pressed to find a better period than his prolific run of film in the '90s — Airheads (1994), Billy Madison (1995), Happy Gilmore (1996), The Wedding Singer (1998), and The Waterboy (1998), with Little Nicky, Punch-Drunk Love, and Mr. Deeds right around the corner. This probably sounds unthinkable in 2024, but 25 years ago, the notion of Adam Sandler appearing in a film with even the slightest of awards hopes was considered deranged. The "Saturday Night Live" veteran was one of the biggest movie stars in Hollywood, but the movies that brought him to the mountaintop were almost all critically maligned goofs. Aside from the sweet-natured rom-com "The Wedding Singer," Sandler was viewed as a juvenile vulgarian who unrepentantly aimed low. Even though he could procure the services of respected actors like Drew Barrymore, Steve Buscemi, and John Turturro, Sandler's brand of inspired stupidity could not be accepted as worthy of their generation's comedy imbecile Jerry Lewis.
So when word got out in 2001 that Paul Thomas Anderson, one of the most exciting young auteurs working at the turn of the millennium based on the strength of "Boogie Nights" and "Magnolia," announced that he'd cast Adam Sandler...

Adam Sandler isn’t an actor that the audience associates with the Oscars, and surprisingly, his only Oscar-nominated movie to date is a comedy with 34% on Rotten Tomatoes. Adam Sandler is one of the most popular comedy actors of his generation, as well as one of the most profitable ones, even if many of his movies aren’t critical hits. Shelley Duvall may be synonymous with Wendy Torrance, but it's her role as Olive Oyl in the 1980s Popeye that is the true high watermark of her career. The 1980 Popeye, ndirected by Robert Altman and starring Duvall, Paul L. Smith as Bluto, and the late great Robin Williams as the titular sailor, is a fascinating piece of pop culture that, for all intents, should not have worked, and yet it's wound up as one of the most memorable non-dc or Marvel comic adaptations, and it's left a surprising legacy, with a song even appearing in Punch Drunk Love.

Even though Sandler’s reputation hasn’t improved greatly among critics, even though he has proven to be an impeccable performer with the right material, he still garners major numbers for the streaming giant.

Interestingly, Sandler isn’t the lone impeccable actor, whose more successful releases are inversely proportional to their critical reception as Mark Wahlberg is surprisingly in the same boat.

Paul Thomas Anderson’s Punch-Drunk Love is coming to 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray in the UK, from Criterion. More here.
After a rush of releases in the run up to Christmas, it’s nice to see that catalogue 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray titles aren’t slowing down too much early in 2025. And one early treat is the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray debut of Paul Thomas Anderson’s film, Punch-Drunk Love.
Starring Adam Sandler (in arguably his most acclaimed role this side of Uncut Gems) and Emily Watson, the film dates back to 2002, and was Anderson following up the double punch of Boogie Nights and Magnolia.
The movie’s 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray comes curtesy of The Criterion Collection, which is set to release the film on 10th February 2025.
The listing for it is live now too. You can find more information on the release, and order a copy, right here.

Adam Sandler is an actor who many tend to associate with dumb comedy classics from the '90s, but since then, he's known for even less mature, repetitive comedies such as Grown Ups, or an unending stream of vaguely thematically different rom-coms like Just Go with It or 50 First Dates. Most of these (often painfully unfunny) movies are produced or written by Sandler himself. However, from time to time, Sandler places himself in the hands of other creatives, which often yields better results. The actor won an Independent Spirit Award for his performance in Uncut Gems, but this is arguably not his best movie.

Physical media collectors, take note. The Criterion Collection has announced six new Blu-ray releases coming in February 2025, including titles from some of today’s most beloved auteurs and one famously elusive late-career work from a French New Wave legend.
The slate is headlined by Jean-Luc Godard’s “King Lear,” an essential work from the “Breathless” director’s experimental period that has long been unavailable to own or stream. The film uses William Shakespeare’s tragedy as a jumping off point for a postmodern riff on art in a world decimated by the Chernobyl nuclear meltdown. While it shares little DNA with the actual play that shares its name, “King Lear” contains some of the most striking imagery of Godard’s filmography, including the director himself donning a Rastafarian wig made entirely of electrical cables. The nonlinear film is a pastiche of influences, references, and ideas that stands out to many...

“Dune: Prophecy” is prepping to expand the franchise by 10,000 whole years.
The new series, set in the distant past, serves as a prequel to the mainline films starring Timothy Chalamet. It follows the true rise of the Bene Gesserit and House Corrino leading the Imperium only years removed from the Butlerian Jihad against the “thinking machines.” With a new “Dune” series comes a slew of new characters to remember.
Here’s a complete list of the biggest names to remember while watching the upcoming HBO sci-fi prequel.

To prepare for her starring role in “Dune Prophecy,” a sci-fi series set thousands of years in the future, Emily Watson turned to the Tudor dynasty. She spent hours at London’s National Portrait Gallery looking at paintings of Queen Elizabeth I, Mary Queen of Scots, and Anne Boleyn, women who, at least for a time, learned to successfully navigate a society dominated by men.
“It’s amazing to gaze at these portraits of these quietly powerful, terrifying women,” Watson says, during an interview at HBO’s Hudson Yards offices last month. “They don’t give too much away — they’re sort of ciphers, which gives them this sense of control. And you think about how they were surrounded by intrigue while living in this incredibly brutal, paranoid police state. Everybody in their life either wanted to kill them or or marry them.”
In many cases, both fates awaited them.

This upcoming Sunday, HBO will air the first episode of Dune: Prophecy, a new TV series set in Frank Herbert's Dune universe. But don't expect to see Paul Atreides anywhere; this show is set 10,000 years before the events of the first Dune book, adapted recently by director Denis Villeneuve for the big screen. Dune: Prophecy takes place in the shadow of the Machine Wars, where humanity fought against violent thinking machines and just barely won. Now, various schools are cropping up to teach human beings to do things that computers used to do. One of those schools is the Bene Gesserit sisterhood, where women are trained to be human lie detectors. Sisters are then placed in the halls of power alongside the leaders of the great houses. Are they serving truth, or are they subtly massaging events in the Sisterhoods' favor?

An Adam Sandler franchise has taken over a major streaming chart. Sandler is a well-known comic actor who first rose to prominence as a Saturday Night Live cast member. His tenure lasted from 1990 to 1995 and included iconic sketches such as "Opera Man" and "Pepper Boy." Over the course of his career, he has so far been nominated for five Emmys, four of which were for performances on SNL, and one Golden Globe.
Many Adam Sandler movies have been financially successful in spite of earning dismal scores on Rotten Tomatoes. This includes Click ($237.7 million with a 34% score), Just Go with It ($214 million with 19%), 50 First Dates ($198.5 million with 45%) and Big Daddy ($234.8 million with 39%). However, he has also appeared in well-respected dramas such as Uncut Gems (91%) and Punch-Drunk Love (79%), the latter of which earned him his Golden Globe nomination, as well as better-received comedies like The Wedding Singer (72%).

Just Go with It is often considered to be one of the worst Adam Sandler movies, but one detail about it makes the fact that it is a remake of a 1969 Oscar-winning comedy so much funnier. While Adam Sandler has been in some great movies like Punch-Drunk Love and Uncut Gems, he has also been in a lot of bad comedies, earning him a negative reputation in the genre. However, Just Go with It is among the worst films that he is been in, with it continuing a trend of him appearing in remakes that are far worse than the originals.
Adam Sandler got his start in comedy movies, and while he has had some great ones like The Wedding Singer and Happy Gilmore, he has also been in a lot of really bad ones. The 2000s and 2010s saw Sandler appear in movies like Jack & Jill, Pixels, The Ridiculous Six,...

The Just Go with It cast is full of A-list movie stars like Adam Sandler and Nicole Kidman and acclaimed comedy talents like Kevin Nealon and Rachel Dratch. A remake of the classic 1969 farce Cactus Flower, Just Go with It reimagines the tale of lies and deception as a feel-good romantic comedy. A cosmetic surgeon recruits his office manager and her kids to pose as his family to woo his latest love interest. In line with rom-com traditions, true love is right in front of the main character as he falls for his fake wife.
Just Go with It was one of Adam Sandlers biggest hits at the box office, grossing roughly $215 million worldwide (via Box Office Mojo). This story of a fake marriage turning into a real marriage also marked the first on-screen pairing of Sandler and Jennifer Aniston. Adam Sandler is best known for his slapstick comedies that do little to satisfy critics, but has, nonetheless, turned it into a brand. The actor has also surprised fans with small detours into dramatic territory with films like Spaceman, Uncut Gems, and Punch-Drunk Love. However, he has managed to balance his brand of comedies.
One of his earliest roles as an SNL alum was the comedy Airheads. Starring along with Brendan Fraser and Steve Buscemi, Sandler was the main draw due to his time on SNL. He reportedly used this clout to make sure the director cast Fraser, though he was a relative unknown at the time and was only known for Encino Man.

The cast of Pixels includes several well-known Hollywood actors, as well as many supporting roles and fun cameos from the world of film, TV, and gaming. Despite not being considered one of Adam Sandler's best-ranked movies, Pixels certainly includes a fun premise. It tells the story of extraterrestrial invaders of Earth who once found a video game-infused time capsule in space and mistook it as a declaration of war. In another Adam Sandler and Kevin James collaboration, the main cast of Pixels use their video game expertise to repel this alien invasion that comes in the form of game characters.
Due to this unique premise, Pixels can almost be counted as a video game adaptation movie. Although it is not based on any one game and does not include a storyline found in a video game like Detective Pikachu, Warcraft, Sonic the Hedgehog, or Mortal Kombat of late, it...

People tend to fear what they do not understand, and in A24‘s The Legend of Ochi trailer, a young girl defies the laws of tradition to return a mythical creature to its forest home. Isaiah Saxon wrote and directed this adventure fantasy film starring Helena Zengel, Willem Dafoe, Emily Watson, and Finn Wolfhard.
The Legend of Ochi takes place in what appears to be some post-apocalyptic setting, with survivors forever fearful of what lurks within the depths of a nearby jungle. The group shares stories about a vicious creature skulking beyond the treeline, drooling and waiting for anyone foolish enough to come within its iron-like grasp. They hunt the beast but know little about its actual identity. It’s all fear-mongering and cautionary tales. That is until one young woman, Yuri, discovers the truth and can communicate with the creature.

Here at JoBlo, we love physical media – Especially 4K discs. To a lot of us, the 4K revolution has really given some of our favourite movies new life, with the format allowing us to see pristine versions of classic films that come the closest to presenting them in a way that allows us to experience them the way first run audiences did when they came out. While DVD and Blu-ray were both great for their time, 4K is miraculous, with movies like The Crow looking better in this format than they have since their original theatrical runs. One of the reasons is that the people doing the 4K restorations usually go back to a movie’s negative to make it look as good as it can, and the people restoring these films are passionate (even if some efforts have been controversial).
Yet, some of our favorite movies still aren’t available in 4K.

Like many popular comedic actors of the day, Adam Sandler got his start on “Saturday Night Live” first as a writer and then as a cast member. He was spotted by weekend update anchor Dennis Miller doing stand-up comedy and Miller recommended him for the show. Sandler was a big success on the show, particularly doing song parodies during the Weekend Update segments. Sandler left the show in 1995 after only five years on the program. Years later when Conan O’Brien was having his own problems with NBC, Sandler admitted to O’Brien that he was actually fired from “SNL” and didn’t leave voluntarily as had been assumed.
Sandler started off doing comedy films after that but has evolved into doing dramatic work at times. While he has a pretty strong track record as a box office draw, he has also often been the target of poor reviews from critics...

Paul Thomas Anderson ranks among the most revered auteur filmmakers of the past 30 years. Whether telling contemporary stories in Magnolia and Punch Drunk Love or period-set dramas like The Master, There Will Be Blood, Phantom Thread, and more, few filmmakers can transport viewers to a specific time and place, like Anderson. The rich writing, intricate costumes and art direction, fluid camerawork, and outstanding performances under PTA's direction often evoke a historical epoch more vividly than others.
PTA has written and directed three features set in the 1970s thus far, each encapsulating a decade marked by great change and upheaval. While all three are highly recommended, Boogie Nights and Inherent Vice are available on Max and deserve extra praise for how PTA elicits the aesthetic of the 1970s. Perhaps most impressive, whether adapting a novel or writing an original screenplay, Anderson appears most comfortable telling cinematic stories set in the past.

Sandler’s first collaboration with the elite indie filmmaker Josh Safdie proved to be one of the most important projects of his career. Rom-coms can be repetitive, but unique movies like "Love Wedding Repeat" shake things up with alternate versions and chaotic situations. The best rom-coms engage viewers to root for love. Unconventional films like "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World" blend action, comedy, and romance. "Punch-Drunk Love" broke away from traditional rom-coms with a socially anxious protagonist, showcasing deep themes of love and vulnerability.
Of all movie genres, rom-coms can often be accused of repeating themselves, but occasionally, unconventional and unique movies come along that shake things up. While the well-worn story beats of two people coming together only to face some unsurmountable challenge to their love have been done time and time again, other movies found interesting ways to play with this premise and bring something new to the table. This could be through non-linear story structure, fascinating sci-fi premises, or just clever writing that breaks from previously established conventions.
