Lil Rel Howery Gets Emotional Watching ‘Dashing Through the Snow’: ‘That’s a Black Santa … We Don’t See That Often’
Lil Rel Howery
Every time Lil Rel Howery watches his new Disney+ film “Dashing Through the Snow,” he gets “emotional” seeing a Black Santa.

“Because, it’s like, you see Black Santa – [Chris “Ludacris” Bridges” and I] were talking about this earlier – when you see the end of the movie, like, every time I see the end of it, and I’m like, ‘Is it weird because it’s me?’ But, I always get emotional,” Howery, who plays Santa “Nick” Claus in the film, told TheWrap. “Like, wow, just to see Santa fly through the air. That’s a Black Santa. He’s waving. It’s just a beautiful thing because we don’t see that often. Peter Werner, Oscar Winner and ‘Moonlighting’ Director, Dies at 76
Image
Peter Werner, the Oscar-winning director known for his television work that spanned five decades and included helming episodes of such popular series as Moonlighting, A Different World, Justified and Law & Order: Svu, has died. He was 76.

Werner died Tuesday morning in Wilmington, North Carolina, his younger brother, Tom Werner (producer on The Cosby Show, Roseanne, That ’70s Show, The Conners), told The Hollywood Reporter. “He had a torn aorta that the doctors weren’t able to repair. So sudden,” he wrote in an email.

As a student project while attending the American Film Institute, Peter Werner directed the 1976 short film In the Region of Ice, which was based on Joyce Carol Oates’ short story and starred Fionnula Flanagan. The project won the Oscar for live-action short film.

His career kicked off from there, with Werner helming a 1977 episode of Family. The ABC drama counted Mike Nichols and Aaron Spelling as executive producers.

From Tim Allen to Tom Hanks: The 15 Most Memorable Cinematic Santas
Who rocks the best bowl-full-of-jelly belly in movie history? Father Christmas has shown up in enough movies that he has his own subgenre: the Santa Claus movie, a whole category of family friendly fantasy films dedicated to exploring the magic of St. Nick.

'Home Alone,' 'A Christmas Story,' 'Wizard of Oz': Favorite Christmas movies to enjoy this holiday
Maybe you've already had your fill of holiday programming, but this is when it gets serious.

With Christmas coming at midweek this year, that still leaves several days for networks to offer signs of the season ... some of which have been shown already this year but still are hugely appropriate for viewing. And maybe even more so, the closer to the actual holiday it gets.

Zap2it has selected a sampling of some of the home-screen gifts being presented in the coming days.

"The Wizard of Oz" (Sunday, Dec. 22, TNT): It had a 3-D and IMAX retrofitting recently, but there's something comforting about going "Over the Rainbow" with the Judy Garland-starring 1939 classic at home.

"Home Alone" (Sunday, AMC): Young Kevin (Macaulay Culkin) makes things tough for thieves (Joe Pesci, Daniel Stern) who invade his house in this 1990 family favorite.

"The Santa Clause" (Sunday, ABC Family): Tim Allen...
