Charlie Rose has reached a settlement with three former CBS employees who sued him in 2018 for sexual harassment.
The accusers, Katherine Brooks Harris, Chelsea Wei and Sydney McNeal, alleged that Rose touched them on their thighs, kissed their cheeks and made numerous inappropriate sexual remarks.
Rose was fired from his job as a co-host of “CBS This Morning” in November 2017, at the height of the #MeToo movement, when the Washington Post reported on harassment allegations from eight women. Bloomberg TV and PBS also canceled his long-running interview show, “Charlie Rose,” which was produced by Rose’s company.
Rose publicly apologized for his “inappropriate behavior,” saying he had behaved “insensitively.”
The Post followed up in May 2018, citing 27 complaints stretching back to the 1980s. The three plaintiffs were included in that report, and filed suit shortly thereafter.

Seinfeld fans already know that NBC treating George Costanza as if he were less important than Ted Danson was a bad omen for the show, but did you know that, in real life, the network caused an industry-wide panic by pretending that Paul Reiser was a full $400,000 more valuable than Jason Alexander?
Well, that’s not exactly what Alexander said when he discussed his salary on the talk show Charlie Rose in April 1998, mere weeks before the airing of the soon-to-be infamous Seinfeld finale. However, the brilliant acting talent behind one of TV history’s most petty and envious a-holes did tell the journalism giant that the Seinfeld pay structure for which he, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Michael Richards fought bitterly with NBC to secure destroyed the TV economy by ensuring that Reiser could command a $1 million paycheck per episode of the significantly less impressive sitcom Mad About You.

James Corden, host of “The Late Late Show” since 2015, spoke candidly from the stage of The Paley Center in Los Angeles on Sunday. The London-born 44-year-old comic and two producers on his CBS late-night show, Ben Winston and Rob Crabbe, took something of a victory lap as they wind down their tenure in the 12:30 time slot. They have 12 more episodes to shoot, and are planning some big names (and more carpool karaoke segments) for the grand finale.
Bryan Cranston (a good get!) hosted the panel, during which time Corden spoke about the uncertainty he feels about his future employment. “I haven’t felt this scared since I decided to take the show, to move here,” he said. “I haven’t felt on such unstable ground,” but added, “I have to embrace that fear.”
He intends to bring his family back to England and hopes to get back to live theater.

Mikhail Gorbachev, one of the 20th century’s most consequential world leaders, who ushered in an era of reform in the Soviet Union and played a role in ending the Cold War with the West, has died, Russian state media and other outlets reported on Tuesday. He was 91.
Russian state TV said that Gorbachev died after a “long and grave illness.”
Hollywood & Media Deaths 2022: A Photo Gallery
The subject of one of President Ronald Reagan’s most famous quotes – “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!” from Berlin in 1987 – he led the Ussr from March 1985 until its collapse in late 1991, first as General Secretary of the Soviet Union’s Communist Party and later as its president starting in March 1990.
Being the last leader of the Soviet Union colored his legacy for many of the country’s citizens, but his tenure saw the fall of the Berlin Wall and the lifting of the Iron Curtain.

CBS shareholders have reached a 14.75 million settlement in their securities lawsuit against Leslie Moonves and the network regarding how it dealt with the sexual misconduct allegations against the disgraced former chairman-ceo and how his previous #MeToo comments affected the company’s financial performance.
In a legal filing obtained by Variety on Monday, investors in CBS Corp. — which now, re-merged with Viacom, is called Paramount — wrote, “Lead Plaintiff and Defendants have negotiated, at arm’s length and with the assistance of an experienced and neutral mediator, a proposed settlement of all claims in this Action for 14,750,000 in cash. This resolution, which falls well within the range of possible approval, involved a thorough investigation, extensive motion practice, consultation with an expert on damages and loss causation, and a formal mediation involving rigorous and extensive negotiations.”

“Ultimately, at the age of 90, he died peacefully at the Oasis Frail Care Centre in Cape Town this morning,” Dr Ramphela Mamphele said in a statement on behalf of the Tutu family. No details were provided on the cause.
President Cyril Ramaphosa issued a statement immediately following that news.
“The passing of Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu is another chapter of bereavement in our nation’s farewell to a generation of outstanding South Africans who have bequeathed us a liberated South Africa,” Ramaphosa said in a statement early Sunday.

Gayle King, Anthony Mason and Tony Dokoupil have many years of experience behind them, And yet, in the world of morning TV, they are the new kids on the block.
In TV-news circles, this story is getting a little worn: CBS News retooled its morning program as King began gaining new traction with important newsmaker interviews and in the wake of Charlie Rose being ousted from the division. Now King, Dokoupil and Mason are working on telling a new tale about a morning program that burnishes a more serious demeanor than “Good Morning America” or “Today.”
“Viewers have all these choices ,and we want them to know we’re not wasting a minute of their time,” says Diana Miller, the program’s executive producer.

A federal judge in New York has allowed a shareholder lawsuit against CBS Corp. to proceed based on the specificity of statements made by disgraced former chairman-ceo Leslie Moonves at a 2017 Variety conference.
Judge Valerie Caproni of the Southern District of New York on Wednesday dismissed other claims in the securities fraud suit against CBS Corp. that asserted that CBS’ top leaders and board members should have known and acted on rumors of sexual misconduct allegations against Moonves as part of their fiduciary duty to protect the company controlled by Shari Redstone.
But Caproni allowed the suit to proceed based on statements Moonves made about the #MeToo movement and the then-recent firing of “CBS This Morning” host Charlie Rose after numerous women came forward with allegations of misconduct, some of which involved employees of his now-defunct PBS interview series “Charlie Rose.”

“Euphoric” was the word to describe the atmosphere around the Apple TV Plus offices in Culver City, Calif., on Monday morning as staffers awoke to the news that the fledgling service’s cornerstone drama series, “The Morning Show,” had landed three major Golden Globe Award nominations.
Apple Worldwide Video had exactly two employees — heads Jamie Erlicht and Zack Van Amburg, newly arrived from Sony Pictures TV to launch the startup unit — on the day in the summer of 2017 when the duo drove to CAA to hear the pitch for what would become “Morning Show,” fortified by stars and exec producers Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon. The series is a backstage drama set at a network TV morning show that is rocked when a longtime beloved anchor played by Steve Carell is ousted in a #MeToo scandal.

John Simon, whose biting, sometimes personal New York Magazine theater reviews drew devoted readers and withering criticism of their own, died yesterday at a hospital in Valhalla, New York. He was 94.
Simon’s death was announced on the Facebook page of his wife, Patricia Hoag Simon.
“My husband John Simon died last evening at Westchester Medical Center,” Hoag Simon wrote in part. “We were having lunch at the local dinner theatre when he was stricken. He was 94 years old and had an extraordinary life.” ”
Simon was New York Magazine‘s theater critic from 1969 to 2005, with his eloquently caustic reviews drawing admirers while provoking anger and charges of racism, homophobia, anti-Semitism and sexism from both readers and many of those he critiqued.
After leaving the magazine, Simon wrote theater reviews for Bloomberg News until 2010, and wrote a column for Broadway.com from 2006-2008. Over the years, his arts writing was published in Esquire,...

A judge has dismissed a claim of retaliation included in a harassment lawsuit filed by three women — Katherine Brooks Harris, Sydney McNeal, and Yuqing (Chelsea) Wei — against former CBS and PBS news anchor Charlie Rose.
After the publication of a Washington Post story detailing multiple accusations of sexual misconduct, PBS cancelled Rose’s talk show “Charlie Rose” and CBS fired him. McNeal and Harris were let go along with the rest of the “Charlie Rose” staff , and Wei, a CBS employee, said she was reassigned to an entry-level position after Rose was fired and eventually left the network on medical leave. A former makeup artist to Charlie Rose is suing the disgraced news anchor for sexual harassment and gender-based abuse.
According to court documents filed on Thursday in New York’s Supreme Court, Gina Riggi has accused Rose of subjecting her for more than two decades to “a pattern of misogynistic, abusive behavior, demeaning, embarrassing, and degrading her because of her gender, ridiculing her physical appearance, and physically accosting her on the set, forcing her to use a hand mirror to protect herself from him.”
Riggi, who was nominated for a Daytime Emmy in 1999, was previously the head makeup artist for PBS’ “Charlie Rose” show and had been managing the production’s makeup department for over 22 years, according to the suit. (PBS cancelled Rose’s talk show in 2017 after eight women came forward to accuse Rose of sexual harassment.)

Documentaries may be the hottest ticket at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.

That’s not the only nonfiction film that seems guaranteed to heat up the mountainside gathering. This year’s crop of documentary standouts examines fraud in Silicon Valley; The Satanic Temple’s efforts to gain some respect; and one very famous sexologist, Dr. Ruth Westheimer. Many of the films observe the lives and legacies of formative cultural figures, such as fashion designer Halston, or great villains like Roy Cohn.

ABC has fired Roseanne Barr and canceled “Roseanne” after her hateful, ugly comments on Twitter this morning.

“CBS This Morning” co-anchor Gayle King spoke out on Thursday’s edition of the show about the latest allegations aimed at Charlie Rose and CBS News management, marking another entry into the growing list of awkward on-air moments stemming from sexual harassment charges leveled at prominent news personalities.

The Post report detailed claims that CBS News management had been made aware of at least three complaints about Rose over a 30-year period. Twitter was divided on Thursday as people voiced their approval — or disappointment — over Sen. Al Franken’s resignation amid multiple allegations of sexual misconduct.
Much like Franken himself did in his emotional Senate-floor speech, many tweeters pointed out the irony that the Minnesota Democrat was forced to resign over his alleged actions while other politicians who have been accused of sexual misconduct — including President Donald Trump and embattled Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore — have not faced consequences. (Trump and Moore have denied the allegations against them.)

Samantha Bee examined how misogyny in the media worked against Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election after numerous powerful journalists face sexual harassment and misconduct allegations.
On Full Frontal, Bee played a damning edit montage from the disgraced bunch – including Charlie Rose, Matt Lauer and Mark Halperin – where they disparaged, interrupted or condescended to Clinton, other women and (in Lauer's case) a muppet. For instance, Lauer repeatedly cut-off Clinton during a presidential forum. Halperin once called Clinton "kind of aggressive and not that funny," but interviewed Trump about his favorite foods,...

Time magazine’s “Person of the Year” cover star Ashley Judd told a Los Angeles audience that deciding to be the first actor to go on-record with The New York Times with sexual harassment allegations about Harvey Weinstein was “very easy.” “I did it because it was the right thing to do,” she said at The Paley Center for Media during a TimesTalks event on December 5.
Joining Judd on stage were four New York Times reporters, moderator Susan Dominus along with Jodi Kantor, Megan Twohey, and Emily Steel. Exactly two months prior, Kantor and Twohey broke the Weinstein story with a formal investigation into Weinstein’s purported pattern of predatory behavior.
And, just hours before the event, Kantor, Twohey, and Dominus were part of a team that published a 7,500-word article detailing the “complicity machine” that allowed Weinstein to maintain his conduct. Steel was part of the reporting team who...

John Oliver, host of HBO's Emmy-winning Last Week Tonight, publicly confronted Oscar-winner Dustin Hoffman about recent sexual harassment allegations made against him. Oliver was moderating a panel and screening with Hoffman, Robert De Niro, producer Jane Rosenthal and director Barry Levinson, in honor of the 20th anniversary of Wag the Dog. During the panel, Oliver said, "This is something we're going to have to talk about because ... it's hanging in the air." Hoffman replied and, for the rest of the evening, it was a back and forth between the two.
"It's hanging in the air? From a few things you've read you've made an incredible assumption about me. You've made the case better than anyone else can. I'm guilty."
Dustin Hoffman was recently accused by Anna Graham Hunter of sexually harassing her in 1985 while filming of the Death of a Salesman TV movie was taking place. At the time, she was just 17-years-old.

Girl Talk is a weekly look at women in film — past, present, and future. This week, we look back on a monumental year, for better or worse.
Ask enough women in Hollywood about being a woman in Hollywood, and eventually a theme emerges: conversation is great, and the acknowledgement of the skewed numbers and lack of equality is essential. It’s a discussion that needs to happen, but won’t it be great when we can stop just talking and put words into action?
It’s a two-pronged dream — that conversation will move past chatter and produce real results, and that those results will create a world where inequality becomes a thing of the past.
But talking has a way of being one-sided and, as it turns out, there needed to be one more step in between the chatter and actually moving things forward. That finally happened in 2017, the year people stopped talking,...

Seth Meyers is the latest late-night personality to crack a few jokes at Matt Lauer's expense.
On Thursday's Late Night, the 43-year-old host addressed the sexual harassment allegations against Lauer that led to his termination from the Today show. "We learned why Kathie Lee [Gifford] and Hoda [Kotb] drink," Meyers quipped, calling out the co-hosts of the final hour of Today, who often showcase wine and spirits during their segment.
Meyers also acknowledged reports that Lauer had a button under his desk at work that would allow him to remotely lock his office door. Showing a photoshopped image of Lauer sitting on a couch in a garage, he mused, "This is cool, his new office does too."

It's been a crazy couple of months for Hollywood in general. Especially this past week. Just as the Harvey Weinstein sexual harassment scandal seemed to be simmering down, the heat was turned up higher than ever, with several big name individuals in the entertainment industry losing their jobs, including Kevin Spacey, Matt Lauer, Charlie Rose and quite a few more. There have been allegations thrown from left to right, and there doesn't seem to be an end to the parade of names making headlines. In the middle of this tsunami is Corey Feldman, who is on a crusade to out Hollywood's massive pedophile ring. Given abused children a voice as most of the media is focused on the adult side of this issue.
Corey Feldman has ramped up his efforts in the past week. He still plans on making his Truth movie, which he began crowd funding several weeks ago,...

Matt Lauer‘s days at the Today show are over — but there’s no shortage of co-hosts who will fill his seat before NBC replaces the longtime anchor.
A source tells People that the morning show has a general system in place.
“When Matt was on vacation or on assignment, there was a huge bench of people that filled in for him,” the source says. “Whether it’s Hoda or Carson or Willie Geist or Craig Melvin, the weekend anchor.”
“There will be a rotation for now,” the source explains. “But there’s a lot that has to get worked out.

The 2018 Independent Spirit Award nominations have landed, so now we know which films and performances will be vying for attention on the beach ceremony the day before the Oscars. But will they also provide a sneak peak at the big winners the next day? That’s harder to say.
Although many of this year’s Spirit nominees — from “Get Out” to “Call Me By Your Name” — are major Oscar players, they have plenty of company from other movies that stand very little chance of Oscar play. At the same time, there are some noticeable snubs for major players in a few categories that could still gain some momentum as Oscar season continues along.

At last week’s “Coco” premiere at the El Capitan in Hollywood, John Lasseter had a look of sadness in his eyes. The usual gregarious charm didn’t come as easily. Maybe he was tired: he’d been running both Pixar and Disney Animation as chief creative officer for the last 11 years.
That was the explanation when Lasseter first stepped down as director of “Toy Story 4” earlier this year. Then came Tuesday’s shocking revelation of alleged unwanted advances, forcing the animation mogul — who was known for his warm hugs — to take a six-month leave of absence from the studios, apologizing for “missteps” in a memo to his Disney/Pixar staff.
Lasseter, by far the most powerful and influential figure in contemporary animation, joins a growing list of big-name players in Hollywood, the media, and politics accused of sexual misconduct (including Harvey Weinstein, Kevin Spacey, and Charlie Rose). This...

Nick Carter is responding to claims made by Melissa Schuman that he sexually assaulted her over a decade ago.
"I am shocked and saddened by Ms. Schuman’s accusations. Nick Carter has been accused of sexual assault.
In a post on her personal blog earlier this month, Melissa Schuman of the early 2000s girl group Dream claims that Carter raped her when she was 18 years old and he was 22.
In an emotional and graphic essay, Schuman says she was invited over to Carter's house during a day off from the movie they were co-starring in. She claims that after arriving at his apartment with a friend, they listened to the singer's new music before he allegedly brought her into the bathroom, where she claims they started kissing.
Schuman, who says she was a virgin at the time, claims Carter started unbuttoning her pants, disregarding her objections before allegedly performing oral sex on her. She claims he then demanded she perform oral sex on him, writing, "My thought was the only way to get out was to get him to finish what he had started."
