"Stranger Things" isn't the only show keeping the fervent spirit of the '80s alive, because "The Goldbergs" acts as a giant love letter to the decade that birthed such national treasures as "ThunderCats" and "Garbage Pail Kids." Loosely based on showrunner Adam F. Goldberg's own life, the sitcom follows his family's adventures (and misadventures) in everyday scenarios that unfolded across 10 seasons between 2013 and 2023. "The Goldbergs" cast features more than a handful of recognizable names, such as Jeff Garlin and Stephen Tobolowsky, not to mention Patton Oswalt using his recognizable voice, but it's sometimes difficult to pinpoint exactly where we have seen these actors before.
Don't stress, though, since that's why we're here -- to figure out the notable shows and films where you might have seen the cast of "The Goldbergs" before. Now, that doesn't mean their entire filmographies will be covered from top to bottom, because some...

The upcoming Green Lantern show, titled Lanterns, has already begun assembling a strong cast, raising anticipation for the Dcu installment. Everything that is known about Lanterns has come from the mouth of James Gunn himself as the filmmaker continues building the foundations of what will hopefully be DC's cinematic resurgence. Lanterns falls under the many movies and shows in the Dcu's Chapter One, titled "Gods and Monsters," and will be the first proper integration of the titular Green Lanterns into the universe after a brief tease in 2025's Superman.
When the show releases, the Dcu will have three Green Lanterns. As alluded to, the first will be Nathan Fillion's Guy Gardner, making his Dcu debut in Superman. The other two heroes will be first introduced in Lanterns, with Gunn recently announcing the actors set to play the famous DC Green Lanterns of John Stewart and Hal Jordan. Alongside these two actors,...

Written by Terrio, the fictional series, which is targeted for Prime Video, is described as an examination of the events surrounding the Boeing 737 Max. It will reflect various perspectives, focusing on a composite engineer character, to be played by Strong.

In an unprecedented move, the Boeing 737 Max was grounded worldwide in 2019 following jet crashes in Indonesia (Lion Air Flight 610) and Ethiopia (Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302), killing all 346 people on board.

Fêted and eternally fabulous, Isabelle Huppert is this year’s Berlin Film Festival honorary Golden Bear laureate for her life’s work so far, with an accompanying program of some of her most celebrated films. About Joan is her newest, screened out of competition as a Berlinale Special gala (though Huppert was unable to make the trip to Berlin after testing positive for Covid). That is quite a lot of weight to carry for Laurent Larivière’s slender story about the malleability of memory. That subject in itself, broad and deep as it is, may be too much for this rickety film to bear, even with Huppert’s flickering brilliance in the title role.
Joan first speaks to us across the dashboard of her car, telling us who she is: a successful publisher, the child of an Irish father and a French mother who gave her an Irish name nobody...

If you were looking forward to having more Joan on Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist Season 2, we have some bad news.
Lauren Graham announced ahead of the premiere of Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist Season 2 Episode 1 that she was no longer a cast member of the show.
"Please watch the first episode of @ZoeysPlaylist tonight! Joan is only there for a wee moment (plans to do more thwarted by pandemic-related scheduling issues), but I'm so excited to watch the incredible @jcolburnlevy and company. xL," Graham tweeted.
The news is unfortunate, but it all came down to scheduling issues brought on by the pandemic because the actress is signed on as a series regular for the Disney+ series, The Mighty Ducks.
Showr creator Austin Winsberg reflected on Graham being written out of the sophomore run of the NBC musical comedy in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
"I would have loved to have had more of her in season two.

Not everyone has a couch and carpet in their bathroom—but Demi Moore does. The 57-year-old actress discussed all the attention her loo is getting on Tuesday's episode of Late Night With Seth Meyers. Last week, the G.I. Jane star shared a few photos of herself recording her podcast, Dirty Diana, in the bathroom. The post quickly went viral, and fans were fascinated by all the details in the space, like the carpet, the couch, the giant statue of Saint Joan of Arc and the mini stuffed animal above the toilet. Social media sleuth Alexis Wilson even dedicated a whole Twitter thread to discussing the stuff in Moore's restroom, which Moore later tweeted had her "whole family...

Bruno Dumont’s movies linger somewhere between deadpan comedy and bleak existential yearning, an uneasy combo that often makes them hard to classify. From the nomadic supernatural traveler who haunts the French countryside in “Outside Satan,” to the bumbling cops investigating a seaside community in the miniseries “Li’l Quinquin,” Dumont excels at absurdist storytelling that wanders down strange pathways that either end in oddball punchlines or take a sharp turn into profundity. Not every curveball lands, but Dumont’s eerie, dreamlike storytelling has made him one of France’s most endearing and unpredictable filmmakers of the past 20-odd years.
All of which means that “Joan of Arc,” the filmmaker’s , benefits from a working familiarity of the vision behind the camera. Technically, it’s as much a part of a growing Dumont franchise as “Li’l Quinquin,” as “Joan of Arc” follows his 2017 “Jeanette: The Childhood of Joan of Arc,...

Hooray for a different kind of “Hollywood”! Ryan Murphy‘s seven-episode limited series premiered on May 1 on Netflix in the hopes of cleaning up at the Emmys this fall. It has much in common with Quentin Tarantino‘s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” which ruled the Oscar nominations earlier this year but couldn’t quite win Best Picture. Will Murphy’s rewrite of history fare better with the television academy?
Murphy and Tarantino clearly adore the golden era of show business and have been exploring Hollywood history for years, though from markedly different angles. From Tarantino’s grindhouse homage “Death Proof” to Murphy’s take on celebrity rivalry in “Feud: Bette and Joan,” they have taken ample inspiration from the past, so it’s no wonder that both of them wanted to right some wrongs in the histories they’ve devoted themselves to.

2015’s onslaught of television is fully under way, giving us plenty to discuss this week on the podcast. First we look at a full week in comedy, including the debut of The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore, the disappointingly brief return of Venture Bros., and the finale of Galavant. Then it’s time to talk genre and drama, including previews of Pivot’s new murder mystery series Fortitude and The Americans s3 and looks at the Backstrom pilot and Justified premiere. And did we mention we caught up with The 100? In a week? ‘Cause we did. Finally, in lieu of the DVD Shelf, Kate speaks with Emmy, Writers Guild, and Annie Award winner, and current writer for The Simpsons, Michael Price about his career as a television writer on series like What About Joan?, The PJs, and that ‘90s classic, Homeboys in Outer Space.

Joan Cusack admits to Gold Derby her role as the agoraphobic Sheila on "Shameless" is "outside my comfort zone if I'm going to be honest." However, she decided, "I'm just going to accept everything and no judgments. It's a great feeling, and I highly recommend it." Her character may not have left her house in five years but she has managed to find a new boyfriend -- the irrascible Frank Gallagher (William H. Macy) -- and treats him to gourmet meals. Cusack says she loves acting with Macy and that there is "a relaxedness and enjoyment that I guess comes with age. It's great to work with someone who's so competent and generous and is a good person." This is the first regular TV gig for the two-time Oscar nominee since her own show, "What About Joan?" was axed by ABC in 2001. Cusack only got this part after Allison Janney...

Joan Cusack has claimed that her role on Showtime's Shameless is "a gift". The actress plays the agoraphobic Sheila Jackson on the series, which stars William H. Macy as alcoholic father Frank Gallagher. "I tried doing a sitcom here [in Chicago] and that was an amazing process to experience," the former What about Joan star told TV Squad. "But at that time, sitcoms were really going through an identity crisis, and just doing anything different was really hard. "Now on cable, it's like you can be totally different and [people] embrace it [and] they want it." Cusack added that she had no reservations about committing to a television project. "You're not doing (more)...

If you don't just skip the occasional theater post on The Film Experience you may know of my love of Tony winner Donna Murphy. She has what might be her most significant screen role ever this very year. 'But what they want from her is....her voice.' She is playing Mother Gothel, the villainess of Disney's Tangled. She's the one who grounded Rapunzel, like, forever. [Okay, stop gagging. I know the juvenilia of the Tangled marketing has been entirely off-putting but let's stay positive for two minutes.]
Here's the first image release of Mother Gothel, just released.
Tangled's song score -- eight new songs the soundtrack is out in November the week before the movie -- is by Alan Menken so we hope against hope that the songs will be good and some of his past work is very good indeed. Lately it hasn't been quite so magical but at the very least a Menken score would have to be preferrable to the pop-song laden trailer music which led us...

Showtime announced today that Academy Award-nominated actress Joan Cusack has joined the cast of the network’s new series Shameless, which is based on the long-running U.K. show about a dysfunctional working class family. In the U.S. version (debuting Jan. 9 at 9 p.m.), William H. Macy plays the father of six kids living in Chicago and Cusack will take on the role of an agoraphobic housewife who sparks up a “special” friendship — as the press release says — with Macy’s character. Emmy Rossum also stars as Macy’s eldest child who takes charge of the raucous household.

We don't want to get Christina Hendricks fired from "Mad Men," so we didn't press her too hard for details on the show's new season. Prior seasons, however, are another matter.
So when the Emmy-nominated Hendricks came to the Ktla Morning Show Thursday (July 29), Zap2it had to ask her about a scene from last season that a lot of people read as a sign that her character, the smart, sexy Joan Holloway, and ad man Don Draper (Jon Hamm) had a past as more than just co-workers.
"It's really funny. I've had that response from a lot of people who say, 'What about Joan and Don?' And I'm like, 'Where are you getting this?'" she says, laughing.
The scene is from "Guy Walks into an Advertising Agency" -- "the lawnmower episode," as Hendricks puts it. Joan and Don are in a hospital waiting room after a...

Murphy makes time for NBC laugher '11:30'
Tony-winner Donna Murphy is in negotiations to star opposite Jeff Goldblum in NBC's comedy pilot My 11:30, while newcomer Olliver Jones has been tapped to star in Fox's comedy pilot Sweden, OH. Meanwhile, Kelly Hu has joined the cast of the WB Network's drama pilot Dark Shadows. My 11:30, from NBC Studios and Paul Reiser's Nuance Prods., revolves around a shallow New York playboy/financial consultant (Goldblum) who, after his high-pressure job and hectic lifestyle send him into a meltdown, begins to see a no-nonsense therapist (Murphy). Playing a psychiatrist on a TV sitcom will be familiar territory for Murphy, who played Joan Cusack's shrink friend on ABC's What About Joan.
