Rod Stewart Returns To AMAs Spotlight After the MasterChef-Size Clapback At Gregg Wallace
Image
The American Music Awards honored Rod Stewart with a Lifetime Achievement Award, which celebrated the music genius for the 60 years that he has spent in the industry. In November of 2024, Stewart accused Masterchef’s judge Gregg Wallace of humiliating his wife, which was promptly followed by Penny Lancaster talking about how she was both a ‘witness and victim’ of Wallace’s misconduct.

Stewart’s Ama spotlight comes just months after the Gregg Wallace accusation, who quit Masterchef shortly after. BBC was spearheading the investigation against Wallace, who has been accused of making sexually inappropriate comments to no less than 13 people. Wallace has denied these allegations and has committed to following through with the process.

Lancaster, speaking with Loose Women, talked about how she was actually on jury duty when her husband put out the message bashing Gregg Wallace.

Image
Nick Digiovanni has already become one of the most prominent video creators in the internet’s cooking community, but he’s not stopping there. The 29-year-old former MasterChef contestant, who has attracted more than 26 million subscribers on his namesake YouTube channel, is stepping into the world of written recipes. On a new website called Nick’s Kitchen, Digiovanni blends text, images, and video to appeal to both novice chefs and adept gourmands.

At launch, Nick’s Kitchen offers more than 30 recipes, ranging from kitchen basics (hard-boiled eggs) to comfort foods (lasagna) to takeout classics (orange chicken). The header on the Nick’s Kitchen website quotes Ratatouille‘s Chef Gusteau by reminding culinary amateurs that “anyone can cook.” As long as no rats are hiding in Digiovanni’s toque, the reference is a welcome reminder of the creator’s inclusive approach to food content.

Each Nick’s Kitchen recipe is accompanied by a video tutorial.

Brit Formats Are Back: Report Shows 18% Rise In UK Adaptations Last Year Driven By ‘The 1% Club’, ‘The Piano’, ‘MasterChef’
Image
Exclusive: British formats are back in vogue, according to research firm K7’s annual Tracking the Giants report.

Driven by new hits like The 1% Club and The Piano, along with evergreens such as MasterChef, the UK accounted for one-third (33%) of all new adaptations overseas last year, K7 said. That 33% figure put the UK way ahead of the U.S., which fell from 24% to 19% of all launches.

The UK figure was up from 25% the year prior and is an impressive recovery from a “significant decline” reported in 2022-2023, K7 said. The UK was also the only country among the top five exporters from 2023 to achieve growth in new adaptations with 11.

Representing an impressive 18% rise, the 119 new adaptations of Brit formats was driven by BBC Studios’ The 1% Club, which airs on ITV in the UK and had 10 launches alone in 2024 including on Prime Video in the States hosted by Patton Oswalt.

In a TV studio on the banks of the Thames in London, a team of comedians are trying — and almost entirely failing — to get a laugh out of a gameshow audience.

It feels somewhat unsettling at first. Studio audiences aren’t usually the most comically discerning. But here, that’s the whole point. Each time an audience member so much as sniggers or sneezes, money is docked from a prize pot of £250,000, the slightest noise costing them up to £10,000 each time. Unfortunately for them, all 75 are on camera and mic’d up, with a team of stern-looking officials on the side monitoring fluctuating volume levels and ready to press a buzzer.

“Silence is Golden” — as it’s called — launches on UKTV on May 5. In something of a rarity, the format has already been sold to four other countries across Europe and Latin America before it’s even aired a single episode.

Sister Group Appoints Banijay’s Former U.K. Boss Lucinda Hicks as CEO, Ups Chris Fry to COO
Image
Lucinda Hicks has been named CEO of Sister Group, the fast-rising creative giant co-founded by Elizabeth Murdoch and Jane Featherstone.

Based in London, Hicks — whose most recent full-time role was as CEO of Banijay UK — will drive the strategic direction and oversee execution of independent studio and its growing assortment of partner companies. Meanwhile, current group CFO and interim CFO Chris Fry has been promoted to the newly created role of Group COO in addition to his duties as CFO.

The appointments follow the decision taken by Sister at the end of 2024 following the departure of CEO Cindy Holland to shift its group operations to the U.K. from the U.S.

Hicks and Fry will work closely with Sister London, the multi award-winning production arm behind series including “Black Doves” and “This is Going To Hurt” which continues to be led by Featherstone and its existing leadership team.

Sister Hires Ex-Banijay UK Boss As Group CEO
Image
Black Doves producer Sister has made a splash in London with the hire of ex-Banijay UK boss Lucinda Hicks.

Hicks becomes Sister Group CEO, overseeing strategy for both the production outfit and Sister partners including Pamela: A Love Story producer Dorothy Street Pictures, Richard Bacon’s Yes Yes Media and Stephen Curry’s Unanimous.

Hicks is effectively replacing ex-Global CEO Cindy Holland, who exited last year at which point Sister closed its L.A. office. Hicks will, however, be based in London while Holland was in the U.S. Sister co-founders Jane Featherstone and Elisabeth Murdoch have stressed in recent months that the group will continue to pitch into the U.S. but HQ is now very much in the UK.

Hicks became CEO of Banijay UK when the company acquired her former employer Endemol Shine Group. She left two years later and has been consulting, including with Channel 4...

Report: Banijay Group weighing bid for ITV Studios
Image

French entertainment giant Banijay Group is exploring a potential acquisition of ITV or its production division, ITV Studios, according to a report from the Financial Times.

The company, which produces shows such as “Peaky Blinders” and “Big Brother,” is considering several options, including a full takeover of the broadcaster or a partial deal focusing solely on its highly successful production arm. ITV Studios, which makes content for platforms like the BBC and Netflix, is regarded as one of the world’s leading producers.

Speculation around a potential sale has fueled a roughly 10 percent rise in ITV’s share price this year. Analysts have suggested that ITV Studios alone could be worth more than ITV’s entire £3 billion (U.S. $4 billion) market capitalization.

Any full acquisition of ITV would likely require Banijay to secure additional investment.

Banijay, Production Giant Behind ‘Black Mirror’ and ‘Survivor,’ Eyeing Bid for ITV or ITV Studios (Report)
Image
Industry talk about a possible takeover bid for U.K. TV giant ITV or its production arm ITV Studios is showing no signs of slowing down.

On Monday, the latest spotlight was on French production powerhouse Banijay Group, which is in very early-stage talks about a potential acquisition offer for either the whole company or its studio unit, according to a report in the Financial Times.

The report cited two people familiar with the situation. Representatives for ITV and Banijay declined to comment when contacted by The Hollywood Reporter.

Merging Banijay and ITV, or ITV Studios, would bring together two of Europe’s largest TV production companies. ITV Studios hit franchises include the likes of Love Island, Disney+ series Rivals, The Voice, and Netflix hit Fool Me Once. Meanwhile, Banijay produces the likes of Big Brother, MasterChef, Survivor, Peaky Blinders, and Black Mirror.

ITV’s studio division has previously attracted interest...

Banijay explores deal to buy ITV - report
Image
Banijay is exploring a bid for the UK’s ITV, with a potential deal including a full takeover of the company.

The French production giant is in early stage talks with the broadcaster, according to The Financial Times, with one scenario seeing Banijay acquiring both ITV Studios and its broadcaster and streaming business Itvx.

That would require the Paris-based company to find additional third-party investment, but Banijay is also looking at combining its own production operations with production-distribution arm Itvs.

Banijay owns more than 130 labels in 21 countries and is behind shows ranging from Peaky Blinders and Sas Rogue Heroes to MasterChef and Big Brother.

UK Presenter Gregg Wallace “Considered Suicide, Following Tidal Wave Of Abuse” After Behavior Complaints
Image
Former BBC presenter Gregg Wallace has defended himself in his first interview since stepping down from his hosting duties following complaints about his behavior and language behind the scenes.

Wallace left his high-profile hosting gig on the BBC’s MasterChef in November 2024, and this weekend he told the Daily Mail newspaper the “tidal wave of abuse” he received left him considering suicide, thinking, “Is my insurance up to date? Will [Wallace’s wife] Anna get some money? She doesn’t deserve this. It would be better if I wasn’t here.”
