One of the best Bulgarian movies

I am pretty sure that a lot of people have never heard of the movies that my country Bulgaria have made."Aszparuh" is actually one the best Bulgarians movies. It was shown for the first time in 1981 when Bulgaria had its 1300 birthday. The three movies of the sequence are based on that part of the Bulgarian history when the country was founded and it not only shows the process itself but it also reveals the great personality of the first ruler of Bulgaria. In my opinion the actors managed to show all the efforts and all the drama that accompanied the foundation of Bulgaria. The epic battles that happened are depicted in a very interesting and spectacular way. This is a movie that has to be seen.

    A great Bulgarian movie

"All human knowledge is someone's words."

If you are interested in this part of the Bulgarian history, this movie is a must. I've watched it when I was a kid and didn't quite have any specific memories or certain scenes that I remembered but the actors' performance left some marks on my consciousness. Years later, I am watching it again and now I can say I truly appreciate the story, the narrative, the drama in the actors' performance.

    I totally recommend it!

    The history of Bulgarian Nation

Well. this is an excellent try to follow the history of the Bulgarian NAtion- from the time of the Great Khan Koubrat, till the Great transition of part of the Bulgarian nation towards west/ This is a historic movie with a lot of drama, action, love and suspence. The story shows what difficulties did the Bulgarians have to overcome in order to find their better life in place where is nowadays situated Bulgaria. I really liked the original 3 part sequence as it is more detailed and full of more action --- I was 5 years old kid when I watched it for a first time, indeed. Great actors too- Stoiko Peev, Anya Pencheva, etc. Highly recommended

From The Steppes To Byzantium In Search Of A New Land - A Truly Realistic Picture

This is a motion picture that shows the times of great migration from the Eurasian steppes to the European lands, and the foundation of Bulgarian state as it is now, which is shown in truly realistic colours. The film's story involves so many tribes and nations that it could almost be an almanac of what has happened at these ages in the lands where East and West collide.

To slightly shift the angle, this story is told through the eyes of a Byzantian.

Speaking of the plot, the interesting part is the collision of Christianity (Byzantium) with the Pagan beliefs of the Steppe peoples. There is nothing sugar-coated or following a pre-defined script of hurraying certain tribes or others.

The plot is so realistic, and this is what makes a great story.

Unlike most historic Hollywood movies nowadays, there is no computer production, the crowds are real, as well as the horse stunts, which makes it a must-see.
