Robin Williams was a legend who was taken too soon from us. The man was a comedic genius and an inspiration to everyone who struggles with addiction and mental health. He was a four-time Oscar-nominated actor, and appreciated art when he saw it. An aspect of his life that few people know about is that he loved watching anime. From popular anime like Neon Genesis Evangelion to lesser-known ones like Blood: The Last Vampire, he explored a ton of anime.

However, one anime stood out as his absolute favorite. He liked it so much that he wanted to star in it when it got a live-action adaptation. This anime was Ghost in the Shell.

It’s back to the drawing board for The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim. The once-anticipated anime movie based on the live-action Lord of the Rings movies by Warner Bros. Discovery will soon hit digital platforms after its underwhelming box office performance.

According to Deadline, The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim will soon be available to own digitally on all leading digital platforms, such as Amazon Prime Video, AppleTV and Fandango at Home. This digital release comes 14 days after the animated movie was released in theaters nationwide on Dec. 13, 2024. The War of the Rohirrim, the first new Lord of the Rings movie in 10 years, opened to poor reviews and a disappointing box office weekend premiere.

An anime industry veteran has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help pay for her assisted living costs after losing $6,000 from theft. She was previously a part of the United States branch of Production I.G., the iconic Japanese animation studio behind works such as Flcl and Ghost in the Shell.

The War of the Rohirrim is an animated film from the franchise that based its heroine on Miyazaki’s movie. On top of that, both films have a core theme of war and conflict which is encapsulated beautifully.

Apart from handcrafted animation, Hayao Miyazaki is known for his intricate storytelling.

From One Piece to Bleach, most anime are jumping on the bandwagon of live-action adaptations. Kentaro Miura wished for his series’ live-action adaptation. However, with his untimely and sudden death, this remained unfulfilled. The mangaka pictured Guillermo Del Toro as the perfect director to recreate Berserk.

However, there has been no confirmation of a live-action movie so far. While Toro hasn’t made an official statement, there might be an alternative. Although it may not live up to Miura’s wish, Quentin Tarantino could direct the movie. Furthermore, the acclaimed director would notch up the adaptation.

“Sky Castle,” one of the most iconic Korean TV drama series of recent years, is to be remade by TV Asahi in Japan.

The move follows the signing of a cooperation agreement between Korean content powerhouse Sll (previously known as Jtbc Studios) and TV Asahi just last month. The two companies say that the Japanese retread is already filming and will begin to air from July.

No doubt eager to capitalize on the upcoming live-action adaptation, Anchor Bay Entertainment and its subsidiary Manga Entertainment are gearing up for a deluxe rerelease of the original animated Ghost in the Shell. First released in Japan and the Us in 1995, the landmark science fiction film by legendary director Mamoru Oshii is one of the most visionary and influential films in the “cyberpunk” subgenre that exploded onto the silver screen with Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner and enjoys a longstanding literary tradition thanks to authors like William Gibson and Neal Stephenson. It was created around 1998 by Hiroyuki Kitakubo (Blood: The Last Vampire), Kazuchika Kise (Ghost in the Shell), and Hiromasa Ogura (Ghost in the Shell). The new millennium brought with it an eclectic range of hit films. Hong Kong action director John Woo brought us Mission: Impossible II, the most profitable film of the year at the box office. Ridley Scott enjoyed one of the biggest critical and financial successes of his career with Gladiator, while Robert Zemeckis created a memorable drama with Tom Hanks and a ball named Wilson in Cast Away.

From a comic book movie standpoint, 2000 was also a key year. X-Men not only established a successful film franchise which is still going, with X-Men: Days Of Future Past out next year, but also headed up a wave of big-budget Marvel adaptations which shows no sign of slowing down.

The first 8-minutes of the new Ghost in the Shell: Arise anime series has been released online! I like what I've seen of this series so far, and I'm looking forward to seeing how the story plays out. This is a four part series that reveals the origin of Motoko Kusanagi, a.k.a. The Major, and how the Section 9 team came together. 

The story is "set in 2027, one year after the end of the fourth non-nuclear war. Newport City is still reeling from the war's aftermath when it suffers a bombing caused by a self-propelled mine. Then, a military officer implicated in arms-dealing bribes is gunned down.

"During the investigation, Public Security Section 9's Daisuke Aramaki encounters Motoko Kusanagi, the cyborg wizard-level hacker assigned to the military's Secret Unit 501. Batou, a man with the "eye that does not sleep," suspects that Kusanagi is the one behind the bombing.

Here's a full trailer for the prequel to the Japanese anime series Ghost in the Shell, which is called Arise. The four part series reveals the origin of Motoko Kusanagi a.k.a. The Major, and will show us how the Section 9 team came together. Each part in the series will be 50 minutes long. It's also going to get a short limited theatrical release in June. It's scheduled to be released in Japan on Blu-ray and DVD on July 26th. Vampires. Before Twilight, they were actually cool. Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Van Helsing, Blade, Blood: The Last Vampire, Underworld and countless other titles I could mention meant that vampires were something to be feared and respected. Now nobody can talk about them without first making it very clear that sparkly metrosexuals are not your thing, otherwise the conversation gets really awkward, really really fast.

But in the world of gaming, things have been substantially more preserved – you can find all kinds of vampire lore with some differences here and there in all kinds of games. The Castlevania series immediately comes to mind… or perhaps you preferred the convoluted setting in the Legacy of Kain series, or the dark, leather-clad style of Blood Rayne.

We've got our first look at the new Japanese anime series Ghost in the Shell: Arise. This is going to be a four part prequel to Ghost in the Shell which gives us the history of what led to Motoko Kusanagi becoming a crime fighting cyborg. Even if you're not a big Anime/Manga fan, chances are you have heard of Ghost In The Shell. Personally I think there's only a handful of really great ones, and this (at least the original one anyway) is one of them. Now fans can look forward to a brand new series called Ghost In The Shell: Arise sometime in 2013. Details are minimal, but according to Twitch, Kise Kazuchika (Blood: The Last Vampire, Dennou Coil, Neon Genesis Evangelion and of course the previous Ghost In The Shell) will direct with Ubukata Tow on board as writer. Saya is finally coming to the big screen in animated form. The CW's Arrow may be departing from any particular Green Arrow comic story-lines, but they are certainly dipping into the cast of characters that appear on the page. The latest is Walter Steele, who in the comics is CEO of Queen Industries. He seems to be playing a similar role in the show. According to Variety.. Salmon will play Walter Steele, a former business associate of the late Robert Queen and the No. 2 executive at Queen Consolidated. He married Moira Queen following her husband's death at sea and the disappearance of her son, Oliver. Salmon can be seen on the big screen soon in Resident Evil: Retribution, but he is probably most familiar to CBMers for his role in Punisher Warzone. He has also popped up in the likes of Alien Vs Predator, Blood: The Last Vampire and all three of Pierce Brosnan's James Bond movies.

Okay, so a live-action feature of Blood: The Last Vampire didn't quite work out. But that hasn't prevented the property - first proven widely popular in a short 2000 anime film by Hiroyuki Kitakubo - from enjoying success across various different mediums. Over the last decade, Blood: The Last Vampire has evolved in anime, stretching across two television shows. Now there are plans for a feature animated film and we've got the trailer. Blood-c: The Last Dark is expected to arrive sometime in 2012. Tsutomu Mizushima directs, a veteran of the Blood-c series upon which this gory new entry is based. Okay, so a live-action feature of Blood: The Last Vampire didn't quite work out. But that hasn't prevented the property - first proven widely popular in a short 2000 anime film by Hiroyuki Kitakubo - from enjoying success across various different mediums.

Over the last decade, Blood: The Last Vampire has evolved in anime, stretching across two television shows. Now there are plans for a feature animated film and we've got the trailer.

Blood-c: The Last Dark is expected to arrive sometime in 2012. Tsutomu Mizushima directs, a veteran of the Blood-c series upon which this gory new entry is based.

In the abundance of trailers jostling for position each time you visit the multiplex, somewhere between car adverts and that bloody Orange ad for Gulliver's Travels that I'm starting to worry will just go on forever, someone occasionally makes you sit up and pay attention.

And if you've seen the trailer for The Warrior's Way, it's just one line of dialogue from alcoholic gunslinger Geoffrey Rush. "Ninjas. Damn."

Cowboys are cool. Ninjas more so. It's this kind of combination of Western elements with cool stuff that's expected to serve Jon Favreau's Cowboys & Aliens well next summer, but in the meantime, we have another attempt to mash up Hong Kong martial arts cinema with Western B-movie in just the kind of post-colonial misstep that Hollywood seems to make over and over again these days.

A new comedy show launched last Friday, and its second show airs tonight, July 2nd at 11:05pm on Channel 4. I'm far from Patrick Kielty's biggest fan, but any outlet for comedians of the calibre of the planned guests is a welcome one. Politics, news, and sporting losses are always easier to take when dished out by funny people and Rich Hall, Jack Whitehall, Andi Osho and Kevin Bridges do just that in an appropriate bar setting in Stand Up For The Week.

Family Guy continues its Star Wars specials on Sunday, July 4th, with Something, Something, Something, Dark Side. We think it's as good a pairing as Robot Chicken, Legos, or thumbs can manage.

Empire reports that FilmNation Entertainment is bringing Christopher Pike’s teen vampire book series “The Last Vampire” (not to be confused with the Japanese anime and subsequent live-action adaptation “Blood: The Last Vampire”) to the big screen. The film will follow Sita (aka Alisa Perne), a 5000 year-old vampire Sita who looks like a teenager, which allows her to blend in with the high school crowd and, no doubt, cash in on all the “Twilight” high school audience. While sure, everyone knows this is entirely possible because of the popularity of “Twilight”, FilmNation is quick to point out that “The Last Vampire” was published well before Stephenie Meyer’s books. Back in November we got word of Zhang Ziyi's next project, the Wayne Wang directed English language film Snow Flower and the Secret Fan. However, word comes from THR that Ziyi (citing scheduling conflicts with her other project The Grand Master) has been replaced with Li Bingbing (The Forbidden Kingdom), plus Hugh Jackman will have an unbilled cameo in this adaptation of the Lisa See novel of the same name which tells the story of the lifelong friendship of Lily and Snow Flower and their imprisonment by rigid cultural codes of conduct for women. Jeon Ji-Hyun (Blood: The Last Vampire) has also joined the cast. This will be Wang's first film in China and with Jackman's involvement marks another big name Hollywood actor to join a production in China after Kevin Spacey joined Inseperable last month. Beijing -- During its first day of shooting in China, director Wayne Wang's "Snow Flower and the Secret Fan" added Hugh Jackman just as it lost China's biggest actress, Zhang Ziyi.

Jackman will join the English-language drama at month's end at the Hengdian Studio outside Shanghai, local media reported Tuesday, calling his role the male lead. Jackman's publicist said that "at this point in time, he is doing an unbilled cameo."

In either case, it would be Jackman's first project in China, adding him to a growing list of Hollywood stars -- including most recently Kevin Spacey -- who are coming East to work in the world's fastest-growing movie market.

Meanwhile, Zhang's manager said the actress, who was to have co-produced the film set in rural 19th century China, dropped out "because of scheduling conflicts."
