15 Sci-Fi & Fantasy Movies You Didn't Know Had Cartoons
Image
Sci-fi and fantasy movies often challenge viewers to imagine infinite possibilities, but many forget just how many cartoon spinoffs exist in their wake. These adaptations often expand the lore, brand, and relevance of their cinematic counterparts, sometimes offering deeper explorations of worlds only briefly touched on in the source material. While shows like The Real Ghostbusters, Beetlejuice, and Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous have found enduring popularity, they represent just a fraction of the sci-fi and fantasy cartoons that haven't enjoyed the same success.

Cinema has long captivated children with its fantastic worlds, and over the years, it became increasingly common for movies to spin off into animated TV series. Early examples like King Kong, Planet of the Apes, and Fantastic Voyage often served as gateways for younger audiences to explore these larger-than-life stories. Today, that tradition continues with titles like Jurassic World: Chaos Theory, Gremlins: The Wild Batch, and an upcoming Ghostbusters project.

‘Grafted’ Feels Like ‘The Substance’ Meets Takashi Miike [Review]
Image
It’s incredibly human to want to be seen and accepted, warts and all. It’s a deeply vulnerable experience and territory that can be ripe for horror as characters reach troubling breaking points in order to become popular and stop feeling like an outcast. People will do whatever it takes to fit in, even if that means losing themselves in the process. It’s perhaps quite fitting that Grafted, the debut feature film from New Zealand filmmaker Sasha Rainbow, has come out during the same time as Coralie Fargeat’s The Substance, a movie that’s about altering one’s appearance to be accepted. Grafted is the perfect companion piece and counterpoint. They both explore similar themes and fragile characters, but go about this in entirely different ways.

Grafted comes across as the stitched together synthesis of Eyes Without A Face, Single White Female, and Re-Animator. There are also...

What Happened To Jack Blocker After American Idol Season 22?
Image
American Idol season 22 finalist Jack Blocker placed third in the reality singing competition behind winner Abi Carter and runner-up Will Moseley, and he's been very busy since this incredible achievement. Jack, a 25-year-old graphic designer from Dallas, Texas, auditioned for the judges--Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan--with his original song, "I Was Wrong." He originally didn't receive a golden ticket to Hollywood because both Katy and Lionel said no, overriding Luke's yes. However, Luke then asked the crew to vote, and, when many of them said yes, Lionel changed his vote, and Jack went to Hollywood.

After a season of phenomenal performances, including "Rainbow," "You Don't Mess Around with Jim," "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right," "Blinding Lights," "Believe," "Always On My Mind," "Long Tall Sally," "One and Only," "Nobody's Fool," "Space Oddity," "I'll Be There for You," and "All My Ex's Live in Texas" among others,...

Mariah Carey on those fickle Grammys: ‘They toy with me’
Image
Mariah Carey is one of the most successful recording artists in history, but you wouldn’t know it from her Grammy track record. She won two awards in 1991. Then she won three more in 2006 … End of list. Five Grammys isn’t a bad total in and of itself. Some legendary artists have none. But the fact that she has so little to show for her historic run through the 1990s is pretty shocking given her stature at the time. “They scammed me,” Carey said (half-jokingly?) on the “Las Culturistas” podcast with Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers. “They toy with me.”

In 1991, Carey became just the fifth artist ever to receive nominations across the board for Record of the Year (“Vision of Love”), Song of the Year (“Vision of Love”), Album of the Year (“Mariah Carey”), and Best New Artist. Of those,...

‘Mr. Crocket’ Review – Impressive Effects Can’t Save a Pedestrian Script [Ff 2024]
Image
1980s nostalgia is out and 1990s nostalgia is in, with the horror genre doling out films like I Saw the TV Glow (review) and now Mr. Crocket, an adaptation of Brandon Espy’s 2022 short of the same name (itself a part of Hulu’s Bite Size Halloween series). All Saurian Types In Genshin Impact 5.0, Explained
Image
Three types of Saurians were introduced with the release of Genshin Impact 5.0, all of which can be interacted with and even controlled, seeing that the Natlan region permits players to embody these creatures through a process known as Saurian Indwelling. Saurians are native creatures to the land of Pyro and, while they dwell in that Nation, they are not all necessarily aligned with the Pyro element itself, much like the Natlan characters in Genshin Impact have different Elemental Types. Saurians are dragon-like creatures that live harmoniously among the various human tribes and factions within the region.

Each of these Saurian types is somewhat aligned to one of the games seven elements, though their main focus is not necessarily on providing elemental prowess in combat but enhanced mobility depending on their environment. With Saurian Indwelling, players can burrow underground and climb vertical walls, use a grappling hook to reach new heights,...

Genshin Impact: Where & How To Get Obsidian Codex Artifacts
Image
Finding the location where you can farm Obsidian Codex Artifacts in Genshin Impact is crucial, especially if you want to adequately build certain characters in the game. The Obsidian Codex set, alongside the Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City set, was the first set of Artifacts to be added to the Nation of Natlan with Version 5.0. These two Artifact sets are farmed from the same location, though during different days, and their effects are drastically different while Obsidian Codex is the best set for Mualanis build in Genshin Impact, for example, Cinder City does not fit her.

While these two are the first Artifact sets from the region of Natlan, they are likely not the last. Both of them are different from previous sets since they include the Nightsouls Blessing mechanic into its special effects, a mechanic that is exclusive to Natlan characters. As such, it is expected that...

Kesha Celebrates Her Independence with New Single “Joy Ride”: Stream
Image
Kesha has shared “Joy Ride,” her new single and the first piece of her work not released under a Dr. Luke-related record label. The pop star had initially teased the song on Twitter, writing “You’re right, I am a bitch” alongside a video snippet. Check out the new track below.

Though the pop star had long since stopped working directly with the producer, as 2017’s Rainbow was Kesha’s first full-length project without a Dr. Luke production credit, each of her five albums have been released under a Dr. Luke-associated label (either RCA while she was signed to him or his imprint Kemosabe Records).

Now, with “Joy Ride,” the singer has finally completely disassociated herself with the producer, as her contract with Kemosabe and Dr. Luke has officially ended. She is now legally permitted to release music independently. “First day I’ve owned my voice in 19 years,” she wrote on social media.

Emmy Experts Typing: How will Season 3 of ‘The Bear’ impact its Season 2 chances?
Image
Welcome to Emmy Experts Typing, a weekly column in which Gold Derby editors and Experts Joyce Eng and Christopher Rosen discuss the Emmy race — via Slack, of course. This week, with the third season of “The Bear” out, we look at comedy.

Christopher Rosen: Hello, Joyce! Or should I type, yes, chef! “The Bear” has returned for its third season, and while these new episodes and guest stars won’t be eligible for Emmy consideration until next year, we all know how important it has become for ongoing series to debut fresh material during the current Emmy race. Last year, “The Bear” dropped Season 2 during Emmy nominations voting and only a fool would argue it didn’t impact the Season 1 nominations and subsequent wins. This year, the nominations are already locked even if we won’t know the results for another few weeks, so some standout Season 3 episodes focused on...

How an Arrest and a Bout of Psychosis Paved the Way for Cage the Elephant’s First Album in Five Years
Image
“I’ve been calling it a miracle.”

It’s just over a week before the release of Cage the Elephant’s first album in five years, and Matt Shultz is sitting at a corner table in the courtyard restaurant at Hollywood’s Sunset Marquis Hotel, iced coffee in hand, sunglasses covering his eyes. The frontman isn’t dwelling on expectations; he’s happy just to see the album come out at all. And he’s not using the m-word lightly.

“It’s a miracle to be performing again,” he adds.

What to watch May 3, 2024: Movie awards contenders
Image
“The Fall Guy” is swinging into theaters this weekend, as are the indie masterpieces “I Saw the TV Glow” and “Evil Does Not Exist.” Fortunately, a handful of fun and intriguing titles are also hitting digital platforms, including a dynamic documentary about a rock ‘n’ roll linchpin.

The contender to watch this week: “Catching Fire: The Story of Anita Pallenberg”

No, this isn’t a “Hunger Games” sequel. Anita Pallenberg was an actress, a New York It Girl, and a denizen of Andy Warhol’s Factory, but she is best known as an associate of the Rolling Stones. She dated founder Brian Jones and, later, guitarist Keith Richards, with whom she had three children. Some people have called her the band’s muse. Pallenberg’s life was not always as glamorous as it sounds, though, and directors Alexis Bloom and Svetlana Zill mine her highs and lows for a compelling...

Andrew Scott and Paul Mescal in ‘All of Us Strangers’

All of Us Strangers, The Color Purple, Fellow Travelers, The Last of Us, and Our Flag Means Death (which was just canceled by Max) received nominations for the 35th Annual GLAAD Media Awards.
