Guy Ritchie's upcoming gangster series for Paramount+, The Associate, sounds fantastic, and has an equally wonderful cast led by Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan, and Helen Mirren. Unfortunately, the London production of the TV series hasn't been so fantastic. There have been many awkward moments (and downright crimes) on the set of The Associate, the most recent of which had Tom Hardy opening his wallet and offering to pay the entire set crew after their company shut down. 50 freelance builders were left stiffed just ahead of the Christmas holiday, being told by the construction company Helix 3D that they wouldn't be paid this year, as the company was going into liquidation.

Arrow Films have acquired U.S., Canada, U.K. and Ireland rights to Berlinale title “Incredible But True,” by French writer-director Quentin Dupieux (“Mandibles”).
The quirky comedy, which had its world premiere at the Berlin Film Festival in February, sees a husband and wife move into a suburban house of their dreams only to discover that a mysterious secret is hidden in the basement, which may change their lives forever.
The film stars Alain Chabat, Léa Drucker, Benoît Magimel and Anaïs Demoustier.
Reviewing the film at Berlin, Variety critic Jessica Kiang described the film as “a fun little trinket that unmistakably comes from Dupieux’s far-out perspective” and “charmingly eccentric.”
The film is an Atelier de Production production in co-production with Versus Production and Arte France Cinema and produced by Mathieu Verhaeghe and Thomas Verhaeghe.

Coming less than a year after its predecessor, Army of Thieves is a prequel to Zack Snyder’s recent Netflix hit zombie movie, Army of the Dead. But Thieves is not an action-horror hybrid like that earlier movie, which was directed and co-written by Snyder. Instead Thieves is a heist thriller and set in the early days of Dead’s zombie pandemic. Hence the new film focuses on one character we met in the previous film and what he was up to before the zombies struck: Ludwig Dieter (Matthias Schweighöfer), the savant-like safecracker hired in Dead to break open a vault at the center of that film’s storyline.
What makes it all the more interesting is that Snyder didn’t direct the movie either: Schweighöfer did. A director and producer in his native Germany as well as an actor, Schweighöfer finds himself helming his first major international production for...

Charles Grodin, best known for the neurotic comic wit he demonstrated in such films as “The Heartbreak Kid,” “Heaven Can Wait” and “Midnight Run” and for his role in the “Beethoven” movies, died Tuesday at his home in Connecticut. He was 86.
The New York Times reported that his son said he died of bone marrow cancer.
After getting his start in television, Grodin graduated to both leading and character roles in motion pictures, usually portraying the exasperated urban neurotic. His dry, understated sense of humor also made him a perfect talkshow guest, and later, host of his own cable show. Grodin also wrote plays and books.
The wry 1972 comedy “The Heartbreak Kid,” written by Neil Simon and directed by Elaine May, highlighted Grodin’s trademark neurotic befuddlement, and won him a Golden Globe nomination. But it was one of the few successful films in his career in which he was center stage.

Charles Grodin, the comic, scene-stealing actor of such films as The Heartbreak Kid, Midnight Run and Beethoven who later established himself as a curmudgeonly talk show guest without rival, died today at his home in Wilton, Conn. He was 86.
His son, Nicholas, told The New York Times that the cause of death was bone marrow cancer. A spokesperson said Grodin died peacefully at his home.
Born Charles Sidney Grodin in Pittsburgh, Grodin, who studied under Lee Strasberg, made his big-screen debut in the small role as the duped obstetrician who turns Mia Farrow’s Rosemary over to a coven of witches in Roman Polanski’s Rosemary’s Baby (1968), Grodin graduated to leading man by 1972’s The Heartbreak Kid, the Elaine May film that established his career and set the hapless, dry-wit style that would become his signature.

“The Horse Thieves, Roads of Time,” co-directed by Kazakhstan’s Yerlan Nurmukhambetov and Japan’s Lisa Takeba, has been set as the opening film of next month’s Busan International Film Festival.
“Although Kazakh films are not very familiar [to our audiences], the country has produced masterworks for the past five years,” said festival director Jay Jeon at the festival’s first press conference held in Busan on Wednesday morning. “Thieves” tells the tale of a man who is murdered on his way home after selling his horses at a market. Nurmukhambetov previously directed 2015’s “The Walnut Tree,” which won the Busan festival’s New Currents main competition section.
This year’s lineup includes two Venice selections, Kore-eda Hirokazu’s “The Truth” and David Michod’s “The King” as gala presentations. Other gala presentations are Wayne Wang’s U.S.-Korea co-production “Coming Home Again,” and Robert Guediguian’s “Gloria Mundi.” Busan confirmed...

Cher and Tina Turner are your top choices for induction into the 2020 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Those results from over 1,000 people worldwide are from our recent poll offering you 12 female artists that have been overlooked by voters in recent years. See the full results below.
Lady rockers have had a hard time getting inducted many years, but the 2019 ceremony had both Janet Jackson and Stevie Nicks finally getting in. In fact, Nicks became the first woman to be inducted twice (along with her band Fleetwood Mac) even though many men have had multiple inductions. If Turner gets the call for induction, it would be her second time as well after a selection with ex-husband Ike Turner in 1991.
And here are the results for our recent poll about overlooked bands, which was won by The Doobie Brothers. Look for a male artist poll in the near future.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame voters finally got it right for 2019 with inductions of both Janet Jackson and Stevie Nicks. Both ladies had been snubbed for years and finally got their due at this year’s ceremony. In fact, Nicks became the first woman to be inducted twice (along with her band Fleetwood Mac) even though many men have had multiple inductions.
During their speeches, both Jackson and Nicks mentioned that voters should be selecting even more female artists for 2020 and beyond. So let’s give them some great suggestions in our new poll below, where you can vote for your favorite among 12 women singers.

A case of quirkiness overload, “Before You Know It” is about two sisters — one sane, the other comically nutty — dealing with a radical shakeup in the family. That dynamic runs through the entire film, in which annoying characters behaving irrationally exasperate everyone else, sometimes including the viewer. This feature directorial debut for Hannah Pearl Utt, who co-stars with co-writer Jen Tullock, is a diverting yet awkward mix of farcical elements and earnest feeliness. The two never quite gel, and it’s hard to care about the nice characters who somewhat improbably put up with wildly insufferable ones. There’s some invention and good humor here, yet the whole feels inorganic.
Utt plays Rachel, a 30-ish New York City native. She works as stage manager for her family’s tiny Village legit theater not so much out of love as grim duty — if she left, everything would surely fall apart. Older...

Washington, D.C. — It was a celebration of a broad spectrum of American music — from country and jazz to musical theater and modern minimalism — at the 41 annual Kennedy Center Honors on Sunday.
That’s when the nation’s capital paused from its political concerns to toast eight showbiz titans for excellence: Superstar multi-hyphenates Cher and Reba McEntire, along with composer/pianist Philip Glass, and jazz saxophonist/composer Wayne Shorter. Tapped for a special honor was the creative quartet behind the musical “Hamilton” – writer and star Lin-Manuel Miranda, director Thomas Kail, choreographer Andy Blankenbuehler and music director Alex Lacamoire.
President Donald Trump declined to attend the event for the second straight year or host the traditional pre-gala reception for honorees at the White House. The decision, while breaking with longstanding tradition, was announced earlier and was met without visible dissent since Trump’s presence would have overshadowed the event, if not impacted it directly.

When we suggested 12 female rockers late last summer to Rock and Roll Hall of Fame voters, not one of them was chosen for induction. It’s still one of the biggest hot button issues for this group that they continue to insanely overlook some of the greatest ladies in this genre, almost always choosing male groups and solo men instead.
The only female artist inducted this year was the late Nina Simone, known more in her career for soul, R&B and blues than rock. Sister Rosetta Tharpe was recognized at the 2018 ceremony for her early influence. In fact, some of the only female artists inducted in recent years have been Joan Baez (2017), Darlene Love (2011), Linda Ronstadt (2014) and Donna Summer (2013).
So we provide you with the same dozen ladies below for consideration to be inducted in 2019 because we feel like they all eventually deserve to join the Hof. Vote now...

There's always one day during the Sdcc when you just shake your head, laugh, and say, "This schedule is ridiculous." Saturday, July 20th, is shaping up to be that day this year.

Melissa George agrees that in a sense, she's revisiting one of her past television projects with her newest one.
Largely known for grueling roles in movies that have become cable staples ("30 Days of Night," "Triangle," "A Lonely Place to Die"), the actress did a stint on ABC's "Alias" as traitorous spy Lauren Reed. She'll be back in the world of espionage as private-security operative Sam Hunter -- on the run across Europe while seeking whoever tried to kill her -- in Cinemax's original series "Hunted," premiering Friday, Oct. 19.

She'll be back in the world of espionage as private-security operative Sam Hunter -- on the run across Europe while seeking whoever tried to kill her -- in Cinemax's original series "Hunted," premiering Friday, Oct. 19.
"It was down to Jennifer [Garner] and me for 'Alias' a long time ago, and I really wanted it," George tells Zap2it while resting up from the demanding "Hunted" shoot on vacation in Corsica. "Then I got 'Thieves,' which was on the same network. They put me on that when I didn't get 'Alias' ... and then,...

Showtime for Kristen Bell and House Of Lies
It really feels like we’ve been waiting for House of Lies to surface since that stench over headliner Don Cheadle and his super hero replacement in the Iron Man franchise was still fresh. Well, part of the wait is over this week as we enjoy the view of fresh new key art.
House of Lies is a new series coming to Showtime. It will make it’s debut on January 8th on the same network that brings you Dexter and Shameless. Lies is created by Matthew Carnahan, the talent behind the ’06 series Dirt and Thieves from ’01. It is based upon the Martin Kihn book, House of Lies: How Management Consultants Steal Your Watch and Then Tell You the Time. That’s a mouthful.
Don Cheadle is primarily a film actor, but many stars make successful transitions into carrying TV shows.

Bouncing around in well-received guest roles since the end of "ER" in 2009, it looks like John Stamos will soon have a brand new, permanent TV home. And he'll be the series lead, to boot.
Deadline reports that Stamos is attached to star in "Dead Lawyers," a series pitch that was picked up by Sony following its failed development, eight years ago, for the Syfy channel. Stamos would play, according to the site, "a hotshot defense attorney is run over by a bus and finds himself in his own version of hell: a law firm on earth composed of other dead lawyers, all trying to right miscarriages of justice in order to redeem themselves."
Stamos has led a series before, though without much success; his "Jake In Progress," in which he played a New York publicist, lasted just one season, 2005-2006. He also featured as lead in "Thieves," which lasted just 10 episodes in 2001.

It's no stretch to say that "Mad Men" has been a career-defining show for most of its core cast. But that doesn't mean the actors didn't have careers before that.
In honor of "Mad Men" beginning its fourth season on Sunday (July 25), we at Zap2it decided to dedicate our latest Z-wind to three of the stars of the series: Jon Hamm, Christina Hendricks and Elisabeth Moss.
Hamm had been a working actor for the better part of a decade before landing the role of Don Draper. He may have been best-known for his role in "Kissing Jessica Stein" (where he co-starred with his long-time girlfriend, Jennifer Westfeldt), but he also had a string of TV roles, including stints on "Providence" and "The Division" and guest spots on "Gilmore Girls" and "CSI: Miami."
He also did seven episodes of ABC's short-lived series "What About Brian," which brings us to our first clip.

Stern knows 'Nobody' for ABC Family
Dawn Stern has landed the lead role in the ABC Family drama pilot Nobody, from Desperate Housewives writer Kevin Murphy.
Nobody centers on Jessica Drake (Stern), a mother who gives up her own identity to save the life of her daughter. In doing so, however, she finds that she must pay the price of being erased from the memories of her family and the rest of the world.
Jessica ends up working for a covert ops branch of heaven dedicated to fighting the forces of darkness on Earth -- while continuing to make sure her family is safe.
The pilot starts shooting this month in Vancouver.
Murphy is executive producing Nobody, based on the comic book created by Alex Amado, Sharon Cho and Charlie Adlard. He also is writing the pilot.
Noreen Halpern, John Morayniss, Jason Netter and Ken Levin also are executive producing.
Blueprint Entertainment will produce the one-hour project for ABC Family.
Stern was a series regular on NBC's Viper and Fox's 413 Hope St. She also has appeared on such series as UPN's The Parkers, CBS' The Young & the Restless, Fox's Wanda at Large and ABC's Thieves. Her film credits include The Fugitive and Original Gangstas.
Stern is repped by Robert S.
