      Dreadful by all accounts

Absolutely one of the worst movies ever made, or at least one of the worst movies I ever seen. It's so stupid and idiotic it has to be seen to be believed on how terrible it is and I wonder about the people who had seen it before I did and somehow gave ratings to it, and why they never shared a word about it, good or bad. Well, I was there, I suffered and I need to share a little about my painful frustrating experience watching this trash.

Nothing is new in "Tempo de Violência" so the main attraction to it (to some) might come with its casting with names such as Tônia Carrero, Raul Cortez, Mario Lago, Nildo Parente and Hugo Carvana, to mention a few. The movie follows the banker Antônio (João Bennio), who witness an apparent mysterious murder by a group of thugs, and later on he and his wife (Tônia) are harassed by this group led by Cortez character (in a frightening performance), and they also terrorize a neighbor of the couple (Isabel Ribeiro), of which the movie fails to establish if there was some connection of hers with the bandits since the story is so jumpy and chaothic that nothing makes sense.

Literally, nothing makes sense, and above all the criminals activities and the way they conduct their business while terrorizing the couple in a game of catch and release. While the main idea revolves around corrupt politicians and the murdered guy was a journalist who was breaking the scheme, instead of killing the witness and end of story they leave the poor man alive, sort of like ignore his money which was destined to buy a new car and most of the time the trio's real intent is to rape the man's wife. What's the real deal? Why keep him alive since they always let him loose to find ways to denounce them to authorities and even include a sinister guy who tries to help him out but this man has such a shady scheme formed that it's hard to know his real intentions (I was deeply confused with this guy plan as well, is it a traitor from the group and what's exactly his function in the story since he knows so much about Antônio and everything without being on the crime scene). My hatred with those issues could make me write in all caps the next thought but I won't: there's no way of profitting by causing trouble to the innocent man.

Hugo Kusnet script and direction has no sense whatsoever and no wonder why he never got back in such duties with another movie. This is a complete mess that challenges the viewers patience with every single thing. It's beyond belief. The "hero" has zero charisma, zero appeal and he just makes one foolish act after another yet you feel bad for the guy and his wife. They both suffer physical and psychological threats that drags on and on without a possible chance of winning the game. They're hostages in a way yet they're not trapped inside a house, they're allowed to walk out and contact people but everything fails badly.

I could go on and on...all I know is that I had to dare myself to stay watching the whole thing and I got so annoyed with everything that despite its short running time it felt like it just wouldn't end. And the minute I said to myself I'll stay for 3 more minutes and that's it, the movie actually ended exactly 3 minutes later. It was painfully awful to follow the whole thing. It's an idiotic film that some small good moments but overall it was a bloody waste of time. Don't even get me started about the ending because...trust me, you can go without and if I knew it'd go like that I wouldn't even bothered seeing this trash. Let's just say they got my exact concept mentioned halfway through the review. Somehow they got the brains working but too bloody late. 1/10.
