Session 9 (2001)

FAQ

Session 9

FAQ

No one has answered this question yet.

Session 9 was filmed at the Danvers State Insane Asylum in Danvers, Massachusetts. Unfortunately, the property was bought by Avalon Bay Properties and was demolished to make way for apartments. There are multiple websites dedicated to the hospital, and you can still find photos of the interior and exterior of the hospital.

Actress Jurian Hughes is credited as the voice of Mary Hobbes and all of her "alters" heard on tape; that is, Billy, The Princess, and Simon. Some viewers have suggested that, given the deep and masculine timbre of his voice, Simon may in fact be the voice-over work of an uncredited actor (much as Mercedes McCambridge was originally uncredited for her voice work in The Exorcist); but there is no evidence to document this assertion. The film's makers have said, however, that some post-production digital sound work was used to further differentiate the voices of Mary Hobbes's "alters."

Nope, Willard herself is not a real person, however this fictional scandal is based on events in the 1980's in which a witch hunt of sorts began on innocent parents who were accused of pedophilia and incest and sent to jail until the truth was revealed. The Lifetime film 'Just Ask my Children' (2001) is an account of the true story behind the scandals.

Unfortunately yes, lobotomies were routine at Danvers, but keep in mind that this was back in the forties and fifties, when mental health was still a primitive pseudoscience. Electrode-convulsive therapy was given 'till at least the Seventies and still happens in hospitals today on rare occasions, as does forced medication and alternative therapies.
