Before Bruce Willis became a global star with the action franchise Die Hard and the horror film The Sixth Sense, he was a TV star. He rose to fame as the private detective David Addison in Moonlighting, which also featured Cybill Shepherd. The role even earned him a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series and a Golden Globe.
While the actor then moved on to films after making the action blockbuster Die Hard, he returned as a guest star on Friends. Willis won his second Emmy for the role of Paul Stevens and the guest role was reportedly a result of a bet between him and his The Whole Nine Yards co-star Matthew Perry.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office on Sunday released its first report on Matthew Perry, who died Saturday at age 54.
Perry was discovered unresponsive in a hot tub at his Los Angeles home around 4 p.m. Saturday, law enforcement sources told The Los Angeles Times.
On Sunday, the coroner’s office updated its case online, saying that the cause of death had been “deferred.” That typically means an autopsy has been completed but the examiner needs more time and additional investigation into the death.
“Deferred means that after an autopsy, a cause of death has not been determined and the medical examiner is requesting more investigation into the death, including additional studies,” a spokesperson for the department previously explained, when the coroner deferred the case of death for Lisa Marie Presley, who died in January. “Once the tests/studies come back, the doctor evaluates the case again and...

Actor Matthew Perry, who rose to stardom with his portrayal of Chandler Bing in the iconic sitcom ‘Friends’, breathed his last as he died at the age of 54 at his Los Angeles home. His portrayal broke new grounds, and over the years has become a mark of the 1990s.
One of the reasons Perry fits in so well as Chandler is his proximity to the character in some sense. Like Chandler, Perry’s parents too separated when he was an infant.
He grew up in Ottawa, Ontario and stayed with his Canadian mother, who was a journalist and served as press secretary to former Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, the father of the current Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau.
As his mother later married Canadian-born broadcast journalist Keith Morrison, Matthew also lived briefly in Toronto and Montreal.

Seasons three through six of Friends had some of Chandler Bing’s funniest and most character-defining moments. There he is handcuffed, without pants, to a filing cabinet; remaining in “time out” in a box for nearly a full episode; hooking up with—and later marrying—Monica…We all remember them fondly. The one who doesn’t? Matthew Perry, who says these seasons were a blur due to his problems with substance abuse.

A number of stories have emerged from the Friends star’s recently released memoir – titled Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing. Many of which tackle Perry’s struggles with mental health and substance abuse.

Billy Joe Shaver, the outlaw-country original who wrote classic songs for the likes of Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings and whose “Live Forever” was performed by Robert Duvall in the 2009 Best Picture Oscar nominee Crazy Heart, died today after a stroke in Waco, TX. He was 81. A friend confirmed his death to our sister publication Rolling Stone.
Although Shaver never had much commercial success as a recording artist, he is widely considered among country’s greatest songwriters. All but one of the tracks on Jennings’ 1973 album Honky Tonk Heroes — an early benchmark of the “outlaw country” genre — were written or co-written by Shaver, including its famous title cut. His best-known songs also include “Ain’t No God in Mexico” “I’m Just an Old Chunk of Coal (But I’m Gonna Be a Diamond Some Day),” “Georgia on a Fast Train,” “Tramp on Your Street” and “Try and Try Again.

Teen romantic comedies can be hard to invest in emotionally, particularly as one sinks further into decrepit, cynical adulthood. Whether or not the guy gets the girl in time for senior prom seems pretty inconsequential when you know they’ll probably be torn asunder by college. The good ones have something a little more lasting and internal at stake: Youthful crushes come and go, but you only truly come of age once. A gentle, bittersweet Irish charmer that’s more thoughtful than its generic title, “Dating Amber” finds such stakes as it follows two closeted teens who pretend to be in love, thus deflecting the speculation of classmates and concerned parents. What we root for isn’t just the kids’ tender (if strictly platonic) relationship, but their threatened senses of self: With light, loving strokes, writer-director David Freyne etches lives on the precipice of ruin.

Morgan Freeman has signed on to play former Secretary of State Colin Powell in a new biopic entitled Powell, which is being set up at Hyde Park Entertainment. Reginald Hudlin, who directed Marshall, the Thurgood Marshall biopic that hit theaters last weekend, is attached to direct, from a script by Ed Whitworth, which landed on the coveted Black List back in 2011. No production schedule has been given thus far, but with a major star like Morgan Freeman on board, it's possible that this could move forward very quickly.
The script follows Colin Powell when he was Secretary of State for President George W. Bush, following his service as a decorated U.S. Army General. He was the first ever African-American Secretary of State in U.S. history. He initially did not approve of the President's plan to invade Iraq, since he didn't believe that they possessed weapons of mass destruction.

“Dunkirk” aside, deep summer looks like a fallow season for major films — but appearances are deceiving. This is perhaps their most-essential moment on the movie calendar, as it’s when distributors huddle, haggle, and negotiate to determine which movies will head for the almighty awards-season launch festivals of Venice, Telluride, Toronto, and New York.
From the festivals’ perspectives, they’re vying for the starriest red-carpet gala world premieres. (The exception is Telluride, which doesn’t have to vie; it gets to cherry pick its impeccably curated four-day Labor Day Weekend selection in secret.) Ahead of next week’s rollout of announcements, we called around for intel on what we can expect to see.

Open Road Films has released the first trailer and eight new photos for the upcoming biopic Marshall, starring Chadwick Boseman. While superhero fans will get to see this talented actor portray T'challa in Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War next year, this year they'll get to see him play a real-life hero, attorney Thurgood Marshall. Before making history as the first African-American justice to sit on the Supreme Court, Thurgood Marshall took on one of his most important cases ever in the early 1940s.
Long before he sat on the United States Supreme Court or claimed victory in Brown v. Board of Education, Thurgood Marshall (Chadwick Boseman) was a young rabble-rousing attorney for the NAACP. The new motion picture, Marshall, is the true story of his greatest challenge in those early days, a fight he fought alongside attorney Sam Friedman (Josh Gad), a young lawyer with no experience in criminal law: the case of black chauffeur Joseph Spell (Sterling K. Brown), accused by his white employer, Eleanor Strubing (Kate Hudson), of sexual assault and attempted murder.
The supporting cast includes Dan Stevens as Lorin Willis, who prosecuted the case against Joseph Spell, James Cromwell as the judge presiding over the case, Keesha Sharp as Thurgood Marshall's wife, Buster, Rozonda Thomas as prominent African-American author Zora Neale Hurston and Jussie Smolett as author, poet and activist Langston Hughes. Open Road Films has set Marshall for release on October 13, which puts it up against Paramount Pictures' mother!, Universal Pictures' Happy Death Day and Stx Entertainment's The Foreigner. It will also debut between Blade Runner 2049 and My Little Pony on October 6, and an October 20 weekend with six wide releases, Warner Bros.' Geostorm, Sony's Granite Mountain Hotshots, PureFlix's Same Kind of Different As Me, Universal's The Snowman, Lionsgate's Tyler Perry's Boo 2! A Madea Halloween and The Weinstein Compan's War With Grandpa.
Reginald Hudlin directs Marshall, his first feature directorial effort since 2002's Serving Sara, although he has been keeping busy in other areas, producing Django Unchained and The Boondocks, while becoming a prolific TV director, helming episodes of New Girl, Modern Family, The Middle and more. It was also announced earlier this month that Reginald Hudlin will direct a Shadowman movie for Valiant Comics. The screenplay for Marshall is a unique collaboration between renowned trial lawyer, Michael Koskoff, and his son, screenwriter Jacob Koskoff (Macbeth). Marshall is being produced with the full support of the Thurgood Marshall and Samuel Friedman estates, including their children, John W. Marshall and Lauren Friedman.
Reginald Hudlin also produces alongside Paula Wagner and Jonathan Sanger, with Peter Luo and Belton Lee serving as executive producers. While he has gained a huge fan base for playing T'challa/Black Panther in Captain America: Civil War and the upcoming Black Panther, Chadwick Boseman is also becoming quite adept at portraying historical figures. Marshall marks the third biopic for the talented actor, following his breakout performance in 42, as Jackie Robinson, the first big league baseball player to break the color barrier, and his 2014 biopic Get on Up, where he played the Godfather of Soul himself, James Brown. Take a look at the new trailer and photos for Marshall below.

Do you like to stream movies for free online? You can find plenty of them on YouTube, though not all are legitimate. Fortunately for those of us wishing to respect copyrights, Paramount has a channel featuring tons of its titles in full at no cost. The Paramount Vault, as this new channel is called, has been tested for a few months now, but it's finally going wide. A recently posted "sizzle reel" draws attention to its content, which includes a plethora of clips of favorite movie moments. The catalog seems pretty random, representing dramas, comedies, Westerns, horror, action, sci-fi, documentary, "classics," etc., a lot of them lesser-quality works like Masters of the Universe, Serving Sara and the first three American...

Back in 2003, people were surprised when Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, writers of “Cats & Dogs,” followed up that piece of fluff with the smart and filthy “Bad Santa.” Ficarra and Requa have gone to direct “I Love You Philip Morris” and “Crazy, Stupid, Love” and nobody talks about "Cats & Dogs" anymore. Then are there are people like Jay Scherick and David Ronn, a couple of writers who have willfully doled out garbage for more than a decade. From “Serving Sara” to “I, Spy” and “Guess Who,” the only team that can touch these trash men is Friedberg…...

The last time I watched Elizabeth Hurley was way back in 2002 when she starred in that awful Matthew Perry movie, Serving Sara. Her career hasn’t been that hot in recent years, only appearing in a couple of films. She co-starred in the Wonder Woman pilot earlier this year, but that burned up pretty gloriously. Now TV Line brings the news that she’s landed a gig on Gossip Girl.
Hurley will join the teen drama for multiple episodes as Diana Payne. Executive producers Stephanie Savage and Joshua Safran describe her as a “a sexy, smart, self-made media mogul and all-around force to be reckoned with. Diana’s entrance on the Upper East Side will change the lives of all our characters — including, and especially, Gossip Girl herself.” Sounds pretty typical of Gossip Girl. Everyone always seems to be causing somebody grief for some silly reason. Oh the drama.

It pays to remember your place on the Industry Food Chain.
The numerous events I have had the (somewhat) dubious privilege of being privy to over the years have born the inspiration to assist those new to the industry. Defining the primary roles that are involved in any production, can be a big help to those not in the know.
While these roles can be broken down into numerous positions, the guidelines that follow mercilessly pertain to each and every one of them. Knowing and following them to the letter will enable anyone to conduct themselves in a professional manner while working with their fellow teammates. Filmmaking, while creative and fun, is a business and that is one fact that must never be forgotten.
Executive Producer - The Ep or more commonly known Executive Producer is a role essential to any production as the project likely will never happen without one.

With a new TV adaptation of Wonder Woman gearing up for production, model-turned-‘actress’ Elizabeth Hurley has tweeted this bit of scoop:
“Thrilled to be doing the NBC pilot Wonder Woman. I’ll be playing the evil villain. Can’t wait.”
Not sure if fans of the comic book will be quite as thrilled to discover this. Away from cinema and TV screens for almost a decade now, this would appear to be something of a comeback for Hurley, but considering she appeared in the likes of Serving Sara and Bedazzled before her self-enforced semi-retirement, not sure if the phrase ‘comeback’ is appropriate.
Let’s hope she’s killed off in the first episode before executives at NBC go to the unprecedented length of cancelling a series at that stage, purely on the strength (or weakness) of one of its supporting players.

The British actress/model recently tweeted about her involvement in the not-too-anticipated TV series which follows the DC heroine's re-imagined life in the City of Angels. No other details were revealed except for what the Bedazzled star wrote via her Twitter account, which read, "Thrilled to be doing the NBC pilot Wonder Woman. I'll be playing the evil villain. Can't wait." Hurley is credited for her role in Mike Myers' Austin Powers: International Man Of Mystery and Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, as well as co-starring in Serving Sara alongside Matthew Perry. The series pilot is a reinvention of the iconic DC Comics title in which Wonder Woman – a/k/a Diana Prince – is a vigilante crime fighter in Los Angeles but also a successful corporate executive and a modern woman...

Some interesting casting updates on a project that has been gestating since late 2008. When we first told you about High Midnight , the vampire western directed by Pet Sematary 's Mary Lambert, we had learned William Baldwin, Thomas Kretschmann, Ted Raimi and Kevin Weisman were the first to join the cast. An exec at production outfit Treasure Entertainment has informed us that Vincent D'Onofrio, Elizabeth Hurley (!), Taylor Nichols and Emilio Rivera are also set to star. Hurley has been sporadic in her film appearances over the last decade having starred in films like Serving Sara and Method . Recently, she was attached to voice a character in the animated The Wild Bunch . We're not certain how close High Midnight is to filming. We'll keep you posted!

Is there such a thing as screenwriters apologizing for what they're about to do? Paramount has hired Brian Gatewood and Alessandro Tanaka to take a crack at the big-screen version of Baywatch. Director Jeremy Garelick, who delivered unto us The Break Up, has already re-written the first script from the team of Jay Scherick and David Ronn, who probably owe a mea culpa for the likes of I Spy, Norbit, Serving Sara and National Security. And now the appointment of new guys seems to confirm that Garelick's taking things in a comic direction. But wait: insiders are saying it'll also be about female-driven action, just like Charlie's Angels.

Okay. Deep breath. Today I am just going to go all-out fangirl, unabashedly, unashamedly. Next week you can ask me to discuss the Bechdel rule or the future of the term "mumblecore." But on Sunday, My Name is Bruce comes to Austin as part of a tour around the country, with its filmmaker-star Bruce Campbell in attendance, and my goofy inner fan is taking the upper hand over the professional film critic.
I realize that My Name is Bruce is unlikely to be one of the great films of the century, or even as fun as Army of Darkness. I'm fine with that. Look, I paid to see Man with the Screaming Brain in a theater (also with Campbell in attendance). I don't care. All of you who would go see anything touched by Joss Whedon, even if he remade an Oscar-Meyer Wiener commercial, can have your sweet revenge on me now.

BET names Hudlin chief of programs
BET has hired veteran filmmaker Reginald Hudlin as its chief programmer, a move that industry observers hailed as a positive sign for a channel that has long faced criticism over the quality of its programming. As president of entertainment at BET, Hudlin will oversee all of the network's programming divisions, including development and acquisition of series, music, sports and news. He will split his time between BET's production hubs in New York and Los Angeles, and its headquarters in Washington. "For me, the opportunity to work on such a giant canvas, in the form a 24/7 network, is just incredible," said Hudlin, whose film credits include The Great White Hype and Serving Sara. "It's a great entrepreneurial opportunity." Upon being named successor to the network's founder and CEO, Robert Johnson, last month, BET president and chief operating officer Debra Lee identified naming a programming chief as one of her priorities.

Hurley Scores Another Movie Flop
Actress Elizabeth Hurley is suffering the humiliation of being attached to another movie flop - which has so far bombed in her native Britain. Double Whammy has pulled a measly $40,000 in its first two weeks in British cinemas, despite a promotional campaign which cost the film's bosses $400,000. Kevin O'Sullivan, movie critic for Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper, says, "I hesitate to use the words 'Liz', 'Hurley' and 'actress' in the same sentence for fear of prosecution under the Trades Description Act." Her latest flop adds to Hurley's long list of box office disasters. The leggy brunette's last film Serving Sara, in which she starred alongside Friends favorite Matthew Perry, went straight to video after critics slammed it.

'Method' actress: Hurley to die for in Junction film
In what will likely be her first movie role since giving birth to her son a year ago, Elizabeth Hurley is in negotiations to star in Junction Films' The Method for British director Duncan Roy. Production on the film begins in July in Romania. Written by Katie Fetting, the project is described as Day for Night meets Basic Instinct. It follows a celebrity actress (Hurley) who gets her dream role playing real-life 19th century serial killer Belle Gunness in a feature film and starts to take on the characteristics of the role onscreen and off. Junction Films' Donald Kushner and Brad Wyman are producing with Andrew Stevens of Trademark Entertainment. Trademark will act as worldwide sales agent for the film. Junction and Trademark are co-financing the project, which is budged in the $7 million range. Hurley, repped by UTA and attorney Steven Brookman, most recently starred onscreen in Paramount Pictures' Serving Sara. Her credits include Bedazzled and Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me. Roy, who is repped by Innovative Artists, wrote, directed and executive produced the indie feature AKA. The film was nominated for a BAFTA Award for best first feature this year and won the audience award at the Outfest Film Festival in October.

Hurley Rejects McGregor's Appeal to Rejoin Equity
Serving Sara beauty Elizabeth Hurley is causing controversy by letting her actors' union membership lapse despite an appeal from Star Wars hunk Ewan McGregor. The model and actress hasn't paid her Equity membership of $2,625 since 1995 despite raking in millions as a film star, model and owning her own production company, Simian Films. The sexy star has had problems with the union in the past. In 2000 she was labeled a 'scab' and ambushed by protesters at the premier of her movie Bedazzled after breaking a Screen Actors Guild strike over pay to film an Estee Lauder commercial - an experience she described as a 'violation.' McGregor wrote an emotional letter to lapsed members calling on them to 'stand together' and says, "Actors set up this union seventy five years ago... and we need it as much now as we did then."...

Elizabeth Hurley Burgled
Actress Elizabeth Hurley's London office has been burgled - just days after claiming that the city needs more police on the beat. The 37-year-old actress was mugged by a girl gang eight years ago and had just appealed for extra uniform patrols when she discovered there had been a break-in at her offices. Burglars struck at the Chelsea premises of her screen production company Simian Films, co-owned by her former boyfriend Hugh Grant. The raiders are believed to have left a trail of destruction after smashing open the front door but it is not known if they stole anything. She says, "We definitely need a stronger police presence on the streets." Wealthy residents in the exclusive area where the Serving Sara star has her London home have hired a private security company to patrol their streets because of fears about burglaries, muggings and hooliganism. Officially, senior officers at Scotland Yard say that the number of street robberies in London is falling.

Perry and Hurley Rumors Quashed
Bedazzled beauty Liz Hurley has stamped out any rumors of romance between her and Friends star Matthew Perry. The pair met on the set of forthcoming movie Serving Sara, but Liz reveals she did not get to know Matthew very well. She says, "I think Matthew is very special. I don't know him off set, really. Sometimes, when you do movies, all the actors and crew hang out together, but that never happened on this film. We were all very separate, so I've only ever seen him on duty." Hurley also reveals that she comforted Perry when he was having personal problems and says, "Even when he was going through some painful times of his own, he was always incredibly funny and up and cheerful. And always making me laugh. I think it's just ingrained in him. I don't know if there's a real sad Matthew who goes home and stops being funny, but I have a feeling there isn't."...

Perry's Rehab Is Well-Timed
Monday's announcement that Friends star Matthew Perry had entered rehab for addiction to prescription drugs caused a lot of speculation by gossip columnists that it would interfere with the production of his hit show and upcoming film, Servicing Sara. Perry's representative and reps for the studios involved claim this isn't the case. According to a rep for Paramount, production on Servicing Sara continues, with the focus on shooting scenes which don't include Perry. On the TV side, with the February "sweeps" (an important ratings period for determining advertising rates) finishing, most shows are going into re-runs for a couple of weeks and the producers have three of the seven remaining new episodes of the season already in the can, giving them a solid cushion.
