Every month, Netflix has to purge some of its catalog and make room for new arrivals. Still, the first week of April 2025 is rough. If you wanted to catch many of the films below, you have two days left.
There is no way to binge-watch everything that is leaving. That is true even if you line up several TVs and your computer(s) next to each other and play different things at once. Don't do that because that would be weird (or would it?).
Several franchises are leaving on day one of the month. The excellent Rush Hour films and early Karate Kid movies are gone, as are several animated movies that are worth watching. Here is everything that is leaving in the first week of the month, though.

The summer movie season is getting close, and Fandango has revealed what is, at the moment, the most anticipated movie of the summer, and the result may surprise you. 2025 is set to be a big summer movie season, with most eyes on the July battle between Warner Bros. and DC's Superman against Disney and Marvel's The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which both come out just two weeks apart. Combine that with a Tom Cruise vs Stitch rematch on Memorial Day weekend and potential original hits like F1, Elio, and Materialists; there are a lot of choices this summer at the movies.
According to a poll conducted by Fandango, Jurassic World: Rebirth is the most anticipated movie of summer 2025, based on a survey of 3,500 ticket buyers. Marvel Studios' The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Thunderbolts* claim the number two and five slots, while DC Studios' Superman holds at number four. Other...

March has been fun for Netflix and will end with some fine additions. But be prepared. April is going to see a lot of changes. In other words, get ready to watch a lot of stuff quickly.
41 movies alone will be leaving Netflix at the beginning of next month. If you love such franchises as Rush Hour, you might want to binge-watch the first three films over the next week. Those will be leaving your favorite streamer on the first day of April.
The first three Karate Kid movies will be moving on as well. This is bad timing, as there will be a "new" Karate Kid flick coming to theaters in May. That one will star Ralph Macchio (of course) and Jackie Chan and is titled Karate Kids: Legends. The best scenario would be to see the previous films on Netflix before there is a theatrical release of a new addition to the series.

Kendrick Lamar’s Gnx has bounced back to Number One on Billboard’s 200 Albums chart, riding a wave of momentum after the rapper’s lauded Super Bowl halftime performance, the publication reports.
The album, which hit Number One late last year after its release in December, sold 236,000 units and amassed 161.01 million streams since Lamar’s performance last Sunday. It climbed three spots since last week, dethroning the Weeknd’s Hurry Up Tomorrow for the top spot.

Kendrick Lamar is on top of the world and is looking to stay there.
The rapper followed up his Feb. 2 Grammy sweep — where he won all five of his nominations for “Not Like Us” — by winning the Super Bowl on Sunday. Lamar’s halftime headline show at the Eagles-Chief game, featuring a medley of his tracks including “Not Like Us,” was an unqualified success. This tops what has been arguably the best of his career — and this man has a Pulitzer.
But the recognition may not be over yet. He surprise-released a new album, Gnx, back on Nov. 22, which means he’s eligible for Grammys again in 2026. And according to the current (and extremely early) Gold Derby odds, he’s on track to win Album of the Year.
Lamar has been nominated for Album of the Year regularly since 2014 when his Good Kid, M.A.A.D City made the cut.

Ahead of Sunday night, Kendrick Lamar promised to deliver “storytelling” in his Super Bowl Halftime performance in New Orleans. And, while dropping a career-spanning set over 13 minutes amid dancers clad in red, white and blue, the multi-platinum-selling rapper and this year’s Grammy Awards darling spun a narrative equally about a politically divided America (while still putting a nail in the coffin of his feud with rapper Drake).
Before the lights went up on Lamar as he launched into the performance, which marked the Super Bowl’s first-ever solo rap halftime show, the field at Caesar’s Superdome was lit into nine squares with Xs, Os and triangles popping up within. A familiar face appeared on the floor as iconic actor Samuel L. While football fans eagerly anticipated Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl Lix halftime performance, nobody anticipated the artist’s subsequent jab at Drake with a PlayStation Easter Egg the size of a stadium. Expectations were met for the most part of the rapper’s set. As the audience applauded to spins on songs from albums like Gnx and Damn, the show reached new heights thanks to cameos from Sza and Samuel Jackson.

There were, of course, many allusions to Lamar’s notorious feud with Drake from 2024, but what spectators were surprised by was how the Super Bowl performer decided to end things with the former Degrassi star. PlayStation’s recognizable cross, circle, triangle, and square symbols were visible on the stage as the lights went down, and the words “Game Over” were illuminated on the stadium’s side.

Kendrick Lamar isn’t just winning the rap battle, he’s winning the Grammy war too! While his feud with Drake set 2024 on fire, it looks like only one of them is stacking up the awards, and rightfully so. The Compton wordsmith has already scooped up three Grammys, Best Rap Song, Best Music Video, and Best Rap Performance, out of his seven nominations.

The franchise may be hopelessly tainted now, thanks to director Brett Ratner, but a whole lot of people have been watching the Rush Hour movies lately. Both Rush Hour and Rush Hour 2 are currently in Netflix’s Top 10 — of course, the list also contains Boss Baby, so it isn’t exactly the highest of honors.
While the Rush Hour series is mostly remembered for its martial arts action (and Chris Tucker being Chris Tucker action), one of the most interesting things about Rush Hour 2 is that it inadvertently inspired multiple people to commit a federal crime.
The sequel finds Detective Carter and Chief Inspector Lee teaming up to battle a counterfeiting ring, which, it turns out, is laundering the fraudulent cash through their casino. So, naturally, the filmmakers needed to acquire a lot of fake money for the shoot. One sequence literally involved Jackie Chan beating up some...

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has already established itself as the most successful film in the franchise, earning record-high scores from both critics and audiences on Rotten Tomatoes on its way to grossing more than both predecessors at the worldwide box office. As it currently sits, Sonic 3 has grossed $225 million domestically and $220 million in foreign markets for a worldwide total of $446 million. This $225 million in the U.S. is enough to make Sonic the Hedgehog 3 one of the top 100 highest-grossing sequels ever at the domestic box office, passing The Fate of the Furious, the Fast & Furious movie starring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham. If Sonic 3 can collect another few million at the domestic box office, it will first move past Rush Hour 2 before passing Hugh Jackman's Logan.

Movie trilogies are a favorite topic for film buffs, but truly great ones are in short supply. Popular trilogies like The Lord of the Rings, The Matrix, and the original Star Wars trilogy dominate the spotlight. These may be the most well-known and have significant renown, but many others stand out.
Many trilogies are overlooked, either because they come from lesser-known IPs or were released internationally. Animated trilogies, despite being a consistent source of quality, often fly under the radar. Additionally, thematic trilogies—those connected by theme rather than a continuous plot—offer some of the richest cinematic experiences.

When the first movie came out in 1998, no one could have imagined the acclaim and success it would achieve – earning millions at the box office and basically begging for the next part. Usually, nothing exceptional ever comes out of sequels and neither is it expected.
Almost every time, the virgin feeling of the movie concept is absent, the storyline is on a similar pattern, there is no plot mystery and the viewer's feeling for expecting something new is usually not there. It is because, in most cases, the second or third part feels like the continuation of the same idea or maybe something new but on a slightly different tangent. Rush Hour 2 feels just like that. However, it is not implied in any way that the movie is bad – In fact the complete opposite.

There are many things wrong with Josh Trank's 2015 superhero film "Fantastic Four." Mostly, the movie can't quite find its way to a solid tone and oscillates from fun and funny to bleak or scary, often with no clear rhyme or reason for doing so. There is an element of wonderment as Reed Richard (Miles Teller) finds a way to travel into alternate dimensions, but the film is also weirdly sarcastic and downbeat, complete with po-faced performances from its four leads. The film even spends some time acting like a Cronenbergian horror movie as the Fantastic Four discover their superpowers have mutated their bodies.
Then there's a brief span of superhero deconstruction, as the Four realize that their powers are being utilized as military tools of death and destruction. Then, quite quickly, the film becomes cartoony and silly as Doctor Doom (Toby Kebbel) plans some sort of dimension-hopping world conquest.

Hollywood greats Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker served up some sidesplitting movie magic when they joined forces for the electrifying 1998 action comedy extravaganza Rush Hour, which follows Hong Kong Chief Inspector Lee as he heads to sunny Los Angeles to help his close friend hunt down the criminals responsible for kidnapping his young daughter, forcing the determined cop and skilled martial artist to partner up with the fast-talking LAPD detective James Carter.
The original blockbuster hit was a knockout with audiences, grossing $244 million worldwide and garnering widespread praise for Chan and Tucker's winning chemistry and its thrilling action sequences, ultimately launching a sensational and enduring franchise. Rush Hour 2 was released in 2001 and Rush Hour 3 in 2007, with both sequels following in their predecessor's footsteps and becoming commercial triumphs despite their mixed critical response. A24 has become one of the leading producers in horror over the past decade. Most recently, their horror film Heretic succeeded at the box office and among critics, scoring an impressive 91% Tomatometer. The central Heretic performance by Hugh Grant has also garnered attention at awards ceremonies, earning the actor nominations at the Golden Globe and BAFTA awards. 2024 also saw the release of other A24 horror films including Y2K, The Front Room, MaXXXine, and I Saw The TV Glow.
But even before last year, A24 has been cultivating directorial talents in the horror genre for years. They were the distributor behind The Witch, for example, a film that would go on to make stars out of both director Robert Eggers and actor Anya Taylor-Joy. The company added other indie auteurs to its growing list of directorial collaborators, including Clerks helmer Kevin Smith, who directed their wacky 2014 horror film Tusk. Another director...

“The Substance” (Mubi) and “Flow” (Janus/Sideshow), two very independent specialized releases, add to their theatrical and awards successes with strong interest on home viewing.
“Wicked” (Universal), expecting even greater recognition repeats as #1 at both iTunes (ranking by transactions) and Fandango (by revenue) in its second week out. The studio, which like others rarely announces home video returns, said its first week out had $70 million in rentals and sales. They get 80 percent of this after a small carriage fee deduction, a much higher return than in theaters. This buttresses the claim of how vital PVOD is, even if its often early streaming release seems to intrude on theatrical play.
Netflix, meanwhile, underwent a wholesale turnover this week, with only three films listed last week still on their top 10. “Ad Vitam,” an original French thriller in the Liam Neeson-mold that follows a lone avenger saving a family member in danger,...

The action films in Tom Cruise’s filmography are varied and are at different levels of amazing. The actor is best known for the Mission Impossible franchise but he is a star who is also beyond franchises. The success that Top Gun: Maverick received despite being a sequel for a film that was released over forty years ago is a testament to his stardom.
One of Cruise’s action fares that was on the more modest side at the box office was Knight and Day. The James Mangold directorial also starred Cameron Diaz and Cruise played a spy on the run. Despite the film being centered on Cruise, the original choice for the character was reportedly not him but a beloved, loud-mouthed actor from Rush Hour.

Few names in action movies have the same level of recognition as Jackie Chan, who has become of the biggest martial arts stars over the years. Chan has stayed busy over the last few years with small roles in lower-budget action movies, but nearly 25 years ago he reunited with a major star for a movie that had returned to streaming charts. Chan stars alongside Chris Tucker in Rush Hour 2, the 2001 buddy cop action sequel that recently began streaming on Netflix and wasted no time climbing the streamer’s charts. The film sits at #5 on Netflix at the time of writing and earned scores of 51% from critics and 74% from general audiences on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes. It also grossed $347 million at the box office in 2001 against a $90 million budget.

Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker have proven to be a hilarious dynamic duo through their three-film franchise, now streaming on Netflix. Both Chan and Tucker have appeared in various action movies and comedies throughout their respective careers. However, when Chan and Tucker teamed up to star in the aforementioned film series, the two actors thrived side by side, which is why they appeared in three (soon to be four) movies together.
Jackie Chan reprises his role as Mr. Han in Karate Kid: Legends, the sixth film in The Karate Kid franchise, on May 30, 2025. As for Chris Tucker, the comedian's only upcoming movie is Rush Hour 4.

Jackie Chan has had a cross-cultural appeal for a number of decades. The Hong Kong-born star began his career in his birthplace. He had his first on-screen role when he was just eight years old, acting in the 1962 film Big and Little Wong Tin Bar. After that, the star later played roles in movies alongside big stars such as Bruce Lee, with whom he acted in 1972's Fist of Fury. Other 1970s Chan films included Chinese Hercules, Facets of Love, Fist to Fist, and The Golden Lotus.
It was not until 1980 that Chan made his Hollywood debut in a movie called Battle Creek Brawl (also known as The Big Brawl). This was the United States' audience's first introduction to Chan, who would go on to become a bigger star in the '80s and '90s, acting in key works like Police Story. The hit 1998 action film Rush Hour starring Jackie Chan is finding newfound success on Netflix. The buddy comedy climbed to the top of the streamer's charts shortly after it was released on the platform, reaffirming its position as one of the seminal martial arts action films of the late 90s. The popularity of the movie on Netflix also speaks to the enduring appeal of the comedic chemistry between Jackie Chan and Christ Tucker. Here's hoping they can get it together for Rush Hour 4 as soon as possible.
The film, directed by the controversial filmmaker Brett Ratner (X-Men: The Last Stand), centers around the unexpected partnership between Hong Kong Detective Inspector Lee (Chan) and LAPD Detective James Carter (Chris Tucker) as they work together to rescue the kidnapped daughter of a Chinese Diplomat. The former and incoming First Lady of the United States Melania Trump is coming to Amazon Prime Video — and to theaters.
Amazon has announced that Prime Video has licensed an upcoming documentary on Melania Trump that is being directed by Brett Ratner, the director and producer of films like “Rush Hour 2” who has been on the outs with Hollywood since the #MeToo era.
The movie began filming in December 2024, shortly after Donald Trump won the election, and intends to be completed and released in the second half of 2025. The untitled documentary project will be released theatrically as well as available exclusively on Prime Video, though no specific release plans in terms of the scope of the theatrical release were detailed.
An Amazon spokesperson said the film will give “an unprecedented, behind-the-scenes look” at the First Lady, and that she will be executive producing the film alongside Fernando Sulichin for New Element Media.

No one stays canceled forever, it seems. After being accused by seven different women of sexual misconduct and assault, Brett Ratner's Hollywood career was effectively over. Warner Bros.'s studio dropped him and all future projects in 2017, and he hasn't worked since. That is, until January 5, 2025, when news came of Ratner's big comeback: directing a documentary on former and future First Lady Melania Trump for Amazon Prime Video.
Filming has already begun, Variety reports. In 2018, Kendrick Lamar was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Music. Kendrick Lamar was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Music for releasing his fourth studio album, Damn. Before then, all previous musicians had been awarded the honor for their contributions to either the jazz or classical music genres. This marked the first time that someone outside of either genre was given the prestigious honor.
As much as this distinction paints Kendrick Lamar as a distinguished musician, winning the Pulitzer Prize has put the Compton rapper under scrutiny. At the time, the moment was highly controversial. Music purists questioned why a rap album was deserving of a Pulitzer, while passionate hip-hop heads debated whether Damn. was worthy of winning a Pulitzer, let alone being the first rap album to win such an award.

Winning a Grammy should be solely based on music quality. The reality, however, is that a big part of the game is being relevant to voters. Academy members are conscious of pop cultural impact when selecting the best of the year. So it helps for artists to keep busy in the weeks between nominations and final voting. Taylor Swift released “Evermore” on the week when final voting opened in December 2020, ensuring her “Folklore” Album of the Year win weeks later. Ariana Grande’s sudden “Thank U, Next” era undoubtedly helped her secure her Best Pop Vocal Album win for “Sweetener” in 2019.

Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan are perfectly mismatched in Rush Hour, the 1998 action comedy that began a hit franchise. In two more installments, LAPD Detective Carter (Tucker) and Hong Kong Chief Inspector Lee (Chan) get caught up in one international criminal plot after another. While their on-screen cops would save the day, off-screen, the production of Rush Hour 2 got entangled in what looked like a criminal plot Lee and Carter might have put a stop to, and it was all because of a movie prop.

Together, the mismatched pair must find a way to work together to save a Chinese diplomat's abducted daughter.
