Anyone who grew up in the '90s knows who Tom Green is, and if you don't, well, you're about to thanks to Amazon, who have announced three new projects with the legendary comedian. Green was a staple on MTV from 1994 to 2000 with The Tom Green Show, and later transitioned into films. He starred in such offbeat comedies as Road Trip, Freddy Got Fingered, and Stealing Harvard, while also appearing in the reboot of Charlie's Angels alongside Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, and Lucy Liu.

Our newest Best Supporting Actress Oscar-winner, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, looks to have her next project in view. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the star of “The Holdovers” will join a new musical from director Michel Gondry and producer Pharrell Williams. The project is said to be based on Williams’s youth in Virginia Beach in the 1970s. (I hope we get to watch his very tall hat grow.) IMDb has the title of the film listed as “Atlantis,” but this is unconfirmed by THR.

August is heating up on Max, with “90 Day: The Last Resort” premiering on the streamer Aug. 15 (one day after it airs on TLC).

Five fan-favorite couples from “90 Day Fiance” have reached their breaking points. In a final attempt to salvage their relationships, each couple will participate in a couples retreat to determine whether or not they can heal old wounds. Alongside a team of professionals, they’ll actively navigate issues with trust, sex, jealousy, anger and intimacy. Explosive group therapies, intense couples sessions, past life regressions, unique on-and-off-resort activities and so much more ensue. At the end of the retreat, each couple must decide if they will stay together or move on separately.

Summer isn’t over yet but HBO and its streaming arm Max are already moving on to fall. With its list of new releases for August 2023, Max is focusing on football! The American kind, mind you, not the actually footy kind.

August 2023 sees the release of two major football documentaries on HBO and Max. The first is the premiere of Hard Knocks on Aug. 10. The new season of long-running NFL training camp docuseries will center on the New York Jets, new employers of legendary quarterback Aaron Rodgers. On Aug. 23, Max will air the aptly named Bs High. The doc tells the stranger-than-fiction story of high school football team Bishop Sycamore, which pulled off one of the more notable sports scams you’re likely to ever hear about.

Not of the football variety but in keeping with the North American sports theme will be season 2 of Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty on Aug.

We might be entering the dog days of summer but Hulu isn’t slowing down. The streamer’s list of new releases for August 2023 is a pretty impressive collection of content.

The biggest Hulu original this month is season 3 of true crime comedy Only Murders in the Building on Aug. 8. This time around Meryl Streep and Paul Rudd are joining the already-stacked cast that features Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez. This season’s central murder appears to take place at a theater (outside the building) but I think we’ll let it slide.

That’s far from the only worthwhile original in August as Aug. 2 sees the premiere of the third and final season of superb comedy Reservation Dogs. Hard Knock‘s new season focusing on the New York Jets and the second season of the original drama Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty join Max’s August 2023 lineup, along with Tracy Morgan’s latest comedy special. August’s schedule also includes the season finales of And Just Like That… and Warrior.

Rap Sh!t season two premieres on August 10th, and the new half-hour young adult animated series Adventure Time: Fionna & Cake arrives on August 31st.

Much has been made of titles being quietly removed from HBO Max over the last few week, but while the number of films departing the service in September is substantial, at least subscribers have a heads up.

As is the case every month, various movies are due to leave HBO Max in September, and below we’ve got the full list of which films are leaving and when so you can prioritizing some viewing options. Noteworthy removals include the 2021 Warner Bros. thriller “The Little Things” starring Denzel Washington (leaving Sept. 16), the 2020 “Freaky Friday” horror riff “Freaky,” Quentin Tarantino’s “Kill Bill” films, the “Lethal Weapon” franchise, “Super 8,” “Tootsie” and the Nancy Meyers classic “The Holiday.”

Last week’s WandaVision took a break from our regularly scheduled programming to check in with Monica Rambeau, Jimmy Woo, and Darcy Lewis as they studied the Westview Anomaly. It provided a much-needed dose of explanations and exposition. This week, however, WandaVision thrusts us right back into the sitcom world of Wanda Maximoff’s making.

Howard Lapides, a longtime manager and CEO of Lapides Entertainment who produced Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew and The Man Show, died Thursday. He was 68.

Clients of Lapides over the years included Dr. Drew Pinsky, Tom Green, Adam Carolla, Carson Daly, Jimmy Kimmel, Tom Chapin, Kennedy, Mark Dicarlo, Christopher Darden and many others.

Lapides started out in radio at age 16 at Wysl-fm in Buffalo, NY. While attending Emerson College in Boston, he got his start producing and working on air at area stations. After graduation, Lapides worked for five years with Baton Broadcasting of Canada, doing both programming and on-air work for Cklw in Windsor and Cfgo in Ottawa.

After his radio stint, Lapides went on to become one of Canada’s most successful concert promoters. Together with promoters Michael Cohl and Donald Tarlton (Donald K. Donald), he promoted every major act in Canada for 10 years.

"Blade Runner: The Theatrical Cut" was just added to Netflix streaming, but now it's facing a harsh expiration date of May 16. (We'll be up on the roof, holding a dove and crying.)

Actor Dennis Farina died suddenly Monday morning in Scottsdale, Arizona after suffering a blood clot in his lung. He was 69 years old.Farina was a star of film and TV. Fame is a fleeting fox that outruns most. Sometimes, notoriety outshines its own spotlight. Whether through the casting couch or blood, sweat and tears, the occasional performer will squeak through to the other side and achieve a modicum of accolades. Some are worthwhile, while others are unbearable. We all have that irritating nitpick of an actor who occasional, and suddenly, pops up in a movie just when the getting is good, and it swerves the car completely off the road. "Who invited this guy?" we ask ourselves, hoping s/he gets killed off before we have to get up out of our seat and ask for our money back.

It's a mild irritation, all things considered.

Susan Cavan and Shirley Vercruysse are producing the film, with Myriad Pictures handling worldwide distribution rights, excluding Canada, where ThinkFilm is distributing. Myriad president Kirk D'Amico will executive produce alongside James D. Stern and Jeff Sackman. Written and directed by Bruce McCulloch, Comeback follows a married man (Liotta) who, after cheating on his wife, moves in next door with the local high school football star (Sipos) as they both try to win back the hearts of the women they love. Headly plays the wife; Blanchard is the other female lead. Liotta's credits include Narc, The Rat Pack, GoodFellas and Field of Dreams, and Headly has appeared in a long list of films, including Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Dick Tracy and Mr. Holland's Opus. Robin Tunney and Dennis Farina have been tapped to join Cole Hauser in front of the cameras on Paparazzi for 20th Century Fox and Mel Gibson and Bruce Davey's Icon Prods. Shooting begins March 25 on the project, which marks the feature directorial debut of Paul Abascal. Hauser stars as Bo Laramie, a high-profile movie star who seeks revenge on a group of paparazzi who caused an accident that injured his son and wife (Tunney). Farina is set to play a detective on the case. Forrest Smith penned the screenplay. Gibson and Davey will produce along with Stephen McEveety (We Were Soldiers).
