Samraat was very successful on box office having good repeat runs
Kaajal Kiran was to do the film but later was replaced.
The film was earlier to be directed by Pramod Chakravorthy for another producer. Pramod signed Jeetendra. Some unknown problems occurred and the producer's switched hands to Madan Mohla and the direction to Mohan Segal. Jeetendra left the film due to this and Madan Mohla signed Rajesh Khanna. Madan Mohla and Rajesh Khanna ended up having a bad fall out over some unknown issue. Khanna exited the film. Jeetendra then found himself back in the same role he had signed earlier.
There was a shelved movie Kareer Films "Samraat"(1974) Starring Ashok Kumar, Shatrughan Sinha,Yogita Bali, Bindu, Usha Rani,Produced by S.K. Luthra, Written and Directed by Ajoy Biswas.
