    A masterpiece of Turkish comedy

70's were the best times of Turkish comedy, in this period lots of movies were shot and these movies are still the favorites of the Turks. The movies from Ertem Egilmez (one of the greatest Turkish directors ever) opened a new era in Turkish cinema. I should say that the actors and actresses who took part in the movies were also really good, maybe the best generation of Turkish cinema(so called Yesilcam). Kemal Sunal, Sener Sen, Halit Akcatepe, Adile Nasit, Munir Ozkul, Tarik Akan and many other great actors acted in these movies. It was like a festival to see all these famous people in the same movie. Sut Kardesler (The Foster Brothers) is one of the best movies done in this time. There are three soldiers who are called the Foster Brothers and they are somehow related to the general (Sener Sen). When they are in the general's house some strange things happen and the fun starts. The movie is about the Ottoman time so don't get confused by the clothes. (this was a note for the non-Turks) I call this movie a masterpiece and give 10 points.

    Hilarious experience!

It's a real funny film that will guaranteed to make you laugh. an incredible cast and brilliant performances (Kemal Sunal and Sener Sen are most notable) make this film a masterpiece for Turkish cinema. Lots of comedy is waiting for you to watch and have fun. it's not a wonderful story by all means though, but it doesn't mean that the film isn't good. it's a wonderful film that will make you laugh and feel good. Absolutely 10/10! Hilarious experience! I'd watched that brilliant film again recent days (I don't know how many times I'd watched it, more than 100 I suppose). One trivia is about Kemal Sunal (rest in peace). He wrote a thesis about himself and his films in the university (while he was 50 or older). He tried to explain how could people were still laughing at his films even they'd watched it a hundred times.

    Classical Turkish comedy from 70s

Sut Kardesler (Foster Brothers), now a definite comedy classic in Turkey, is an adaptation from an early XX. century Turkish novel (Gulyabani by Gurpinar). It is also an adaptation of the traditional Turkish theater, mainly based on improvisation, misunderstandings, practical jokes, etc. The adapting process is not limited only to the elements of Turkish culture: it also borrows (without permission) some scenes from "A Shot in the Dark" by Blake Edwards. The cast is nearly the entire squad of the Turkish comedy actors in the 70s (with the exception of Munir Ozkul). The result was a definite commercial success and the movie's popularity is not diminished, if not enlarged, over the thirty years of its production. Although the director, Ertem Egilmez, is not considered as a milestone in Turkish cinematography, he delivers the project quite successfully, provides an original musical score (which is an issue in the movies of this era), prevents the overshadowing of Sener Sen who is in a supportive role by then comedy-duo Kemal Sunal and Halit Akcatepe. The movie does not have sequels but it is seen by many as the first one of a trilogy (Others being Sabanoglu Saban and Tosun Pasa). These other two movies have more or less the same cast as Sut Kardesler, based on the same formula, both being commercial success, but never quite as popular as the former. For the Turkish audience the movie is like a bed time story from their childhood, the plot and the jokes are well known but still appealing, with the strong flavor of nostalgia. But for someone who is not familiar with the actors and local jokes, it is just an old fashion burlesque comedy, related in a way to French or Italian comedies before 80s.
