Subhash K Jha looks back at the Luv Ranjan directed Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, which starred Kartik Aaryan as it celebrates 7 years!
I have known Kartik Aaryan from the time he was seen for the first time in Pyaar Ka Punchnama. Director Luv Ranjan had arranged a screening of the film for me. We were all there to watch what Ranjan (I can’t bring myself to call him Luv) described as a sock-in-the-guts film.
“Sir, aapko bahot achcha lagega. Especially watch out for that boy Kartik Tiwari (I think that’s what Kartik was initially known as). He will surprise you.”
Luv Ranjan, I knew from the time he assisted Suneel Darshan. It’s hard to believe Ranjan comes from Suneel Darshan’s school of filmmaking. To call them poles apart would be an insult to the pole. Just as calling Kartik a revelation would be an understatement.

Fans of the singer’s hits, fluffy mullets (and young Cameron Crowe) are well-served by unseen and remastered footage as this sweet look back ticks all the relevant rock doc boxes
A king of Am radio in the US and stalwart of the Spotify playlists of anyone with a taste for solid, four-square old-school rock, Tom Petty died seven years ago this month – but his estate must surely be earning royalties every minute of every day from hits such as American Girl, Refugee and I Won’t Back Down. It’s perhaps strange that for all his musical success he has less of an afterlife as a physical entity, but this sweet documentary may alleviate that a little.

Harvey Weinstein will be retried in New York on rape and sexual offence charges after his 23-year conviction was overturned on appeal, Manhattan District Attorney’s Office said on Wednesday.
The disgraced 72-year old former Hollywood titan appeared in court in a wheelchair wearing a blue suit and according to reports did not speak in a brief hearing. Reports said Attorney Gloria Allred and Weinstein accuser Jessica Mann attended the hearing.
Prosecutors said there was nothing consensual about Weinstein’s conduct in reference to prior charges that led to the original conviction in February 2020, and told Judge Curtis Farber they would be proceeding.

Dolly Parton honored Tom Petty with a gorgeous cover of his 1985 song, “Southern Accents,” which will appear on the upcoming tribute compilation Petty Country: A Country Music Celebration of Tom Petty.
“Southern Accents” is a tender ballad about Southern roots and a down-on-his luck Florida orange-picker. Parton stays faithful to the original, adding her own country twang, and juicing the poignancy further with a music video filled with old archival footage of Petty.
“I was fortunate enough to get to know Tom over the years,” Parton said in a statement.

The international scope and grueling human cost of the global refugee crisis lends itself to contemporary epic filmmaking of a particularly sober stripe, as seen mostly recently in Agnieszka Holland’s “Green Border” and Matteo Garrone’s Oscar-nominated “Io Capitano.” Shorn of their ripped-from-the-headlines urgency, such stories of humans crossing vast distances and facing hostile odds in pursuit of a better life are as old as time itself. A muscular, assured debut feature from U.S. producer-turned-director Brandt Andersen, “The Strangers’ Case” stresses the sprawling scale of the situation with a chaptered structure that pivots between multiple involved parties in the refugee’s journey, from warmongers to traffickers to rescuers to the displaced victims themselves.
That wide span, however, prevents a particularly penetrating look at any individual experience of the crisis. Brandt draws his characters in broad, flat strokes that serve the architecture of the narrative — and its cumulative, practically...

Kareena Kapoor Khan Once Attacked Karan Johar & Yash Chopra For Not Paying Her Well
Kareena Kapoor Khan is an actress who has been vocal about the huge pay disparity in Bollywood. Many times, she has reasoned that actresses are much underpaid. At times, she has even joked about the same in front of her male counterparts. For instance, while promoting Good Newwz with Akshay Kumar, she made sure to discuss the huge pay gap in a light manner, taking digs at the actor.
However, it is not now that she has started fighting for the cause. In fact, the actress has been clear on her stance for a very long and has not spared filmmakers like Karan Johar and Yash Chopra when it came to her paychecks!

Abhishek Bachchan & Hrithik Roshan Had A Brave Box Office Battle (Photo Credit – YouTube/IMDb)
The year 2000 saw two-star kids stepping into the industry to make their mark. The former was an actor turned filmmaker, while the latter was the son of the most powerful couple in the industry back then. Hrithik Roshan, son of Rakesh Roshan and Abhishek Bachchan – son of Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan, two stalwarts of the industry.
While Hrithik’s debut was not such a buzz initially, Abhishek’s stardom was hysterical even before his debut. When he started shooting for Refugee, the crowd used to gather at the shooting venue just to have a glimpse of ‘Amitabh Bachchan ka ladka.’
He could witness the hysteria and experience the pressure. Both the star kids made their debut a few months apart. While Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai was released in January, Refugee dropped in June. However, the...

“There’s a bit of me in her and a bit of her in me”, said Kareena Kapoor Khan, who is voicing the iconic superhero Black Widow in Hindi and feels that it would be a parenting win if she passes the coolness test. Kareena has lent her voice to Black Widow in Marvel’s ‘Westlanders: Black Widow’, a third installment of the Hindi Audible podcast series.
With superheroes being loved universally, how will Kareena’s children Jeh and Taimur’s reaction be like?
“The beauty of this story lies in its universality; Superheroes have this ability to resonate with people across generations, and I believe this podcast series is no exception. I can’t wait for my kids to listen to me as Black Widow,” Kareena told Ians.
The diva feels that her elder son Taimur will probably be more critical.

When we talk about film royalty, one name should reverberate worldwide: Kapoor.
India’s eminent acting dynasty first appeared on screen in the 1930s, and still dominates to this day. After generations of raising male actors, the family turned to its daughters and, at the turn of the century, ushered in the era of Kareena Kapoor Khan.
Khan was always outside the Bollywood mold of singing, dancing, beautified heroines. Early films like “Refugee” and “Chameli” showed her capacity for drama, while commercial projects like “Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham” and “Mujhse Dosti Karoge” cast her as an over-the-top beauty queen (and retroactive feminist icon).
After more than 20 years leading Hindi films, the actor takes her first plunge into producing with Hansal Mehta’s “The Buckingham Murders,” premiering October 14 at the BFI London Film Festival.

The world of Marisol Riviera comes crashing down when she finds out about her being an illegal immigrant in America. The hopes of a girl full of dreams about a better future are crushed under the brutal machinery of the law. Kevin Abrams, who directed the film, kept it simple and did not sugarcoat the issue of racism in the United States. The satisfactory acting skills of Esmeralda Camargo, Liana Mendoza, Ricky Catter, and others have been an important aspect, making the film stand out. The movie keeps us wondering about the atrocities that the refugees have to face on a regular basis. Some other similar films circling the aspect of the refugee crisis include First They Killed My Father, Beasts of No Nation, Refugee, and others among the top-notch. What happens to Marisol? Does she keep running from the government, or does she give in? Let us have a look at her journey!

Agnieszka Holland is headed to the Vatican for a screening of her migrant crisis drama Green Border, following its selection for its 27th Tertio Millenio Film Festival in November.
The Polish director will also receive the festival’s Special Fuoricampo Prize in the Vatican Library on November 13, ahead of the screening in the presence of top Vatican representatives.
The news follows in the wake of a political backlash and online hate campaign against Holland and the film in Poland, where its depiction of the mistreatment of migrants on its border with Belarus has touched a raw nerve with the country’s right-wing government.
News of the Vatican honor went viral in the devoutly Roman Catholic country and provoked consternation on government-affiliated media outlets.

The first look at upcoming horror-thriller What Remains of Us has arrived, with a promotional still showing a short-haired Kit Harington wielding an ax and looking ominously in the distance. Considering the plot, this can’t point to anything good…
As per Arclight Films, What Remains of Us has the following synopsis: “Set deep in rural England, the film is framed from the point of view of Harington’s character’s 10-year-old daughter (Caoilinn Springall). Behind the walls of her family’s isolated, fortified compound, she begins to question her unusual life. She discovers that once a month her father turns into a monster. Her parents say the monster is nothing to be afraid of but when the monster escapes, the girl has to confront the harsh reality of her father’s identity and make a life-altering decision.” Kit Harington plays father to Springall (The Midnight Sky), while Ashleigh Cummings plays the mother.

As if to come to the aid of her national cinema after the debacle that was Roman Polanski’s The Palace, Poland’s Agnieszka Holland, soon to turn 75, restores some of her homeland’s cultural dignity with a devastating exposé that angrily, and quite brilliantly, questions its humanity and political integrity. At 144 minutes, and in black and white, it is not exactly a Trojan horse, and its moral rigor does not come with a spoonful of sugar. But Green Border earns every second of that running time, and with a focus and energy that belies its director’s age. Awards-wise, this may prove to be the international feature to beat.
It begins in October 2021 with Chapter 1: The Family, in which a Syrian couple, Bashir and Amina, their three children and their grandfather are traveling on a plane from Turkey to Belarus. Their mood is upbeat; they are planning to go from Belarus to Poland,...

Abhishek Bachchan started his acting journey two decades ago and has successfully made a name for himself as an actor and producer. Being the son of legendary actors Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan, added an unseen pressure on the actor when he made his debut in Refugee, with Kareena Kapoor Khan. It was never easy to have always been compared to his father, Amitabh, possibly the greatest Indian actor of all times.
Since his debut, Abhishek has acted in a variety of roles, and that too quite successfully. His portrayal in Guru as an ambitious smuggler, a thief in Bunty aur Bubbly, good cop in the Dhoom series, and a double role in the comedy Bol Bachchan among others has won him the box office crown, audience adulation and critical appreciation.

Shamefully there were only five people at Saroj Khan’s funeral on the morning of 3 June. Three of them were her children(a son and two daughters) and two were choreographers Remo d’Souza and Ahmed Khan.
