London and New York-based producer and distributor Dlt Entertainment has launched a new podcast division, which has made its debut with two new comedy series, “When No One’s Watching” and “National Treasures with Laura Lexx & Will Duggan.”

Heading up the new arm of the business is comedy writing duo, Ben Hillyar and David Mayes, whose credits include “Your Face or Mine” and Citv’s “Scrambled!” They are producing both series, which launch today via podcast platform, Acast.

Hillyar and Mayes report in to Dlt creative director Darren Smith with a brief to develop and produce comedy content in podcast format as a testing ground for ideas and talent that have the potential to be adapted for other mediums.

“When No One’s Watching” is hosted by comedian and former Virgin Radio presenter Matt Richardson, whose credits include “The Xtra Factor” and “Celebrity Haunted Mansion,” and Busted band member Matt Willis.

As the new year begins, Amazon Prime Video is keeping with the tradition of “out with the old and in with the new.” The streaming service will ring in the new decade with a few original series premieres, including “James May: Our Man in Japan,” “Just Add Magic: Mystery City,” “All or Nothing: Cbf” and “Ted Bundy: Falling for a Killer.”

Additionally, the streamer seems to be amping up its stand-up comedy slate with specials from Ilana Glazer, British comedian Jayde Adams, Russell Peters and Rob Delaney. Classic titles like “Star Trek” and “The Goonies” round off the wide-ranging list.

Captain Marvel, which stars Brie Larson, was easily able to take the number one spot at the box office this weekend with an impressive $153 million domestic haul. However, it's the global numbers that make the Carol Danvers standalone movie the highest grossing debut for a female-led movie of all time, both worldwide and domestically, thanks to earning $455 globally. The movie easily beats the previous record, which was Disney's live-action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast with $357 million. Dwayne Johnson isn’t above poking a little fun at himself.

The actor and former wrestler, 46, plays a heightened version of himself in Fighting with My Family — a heartwarming and hilarious tale about a young girl who dreams of being a world-famous wrestler.

And while he’s not the main star — Florence Pugh’s hard-around-the-edges Paige carries the movie — the actor makes several appearances in the trailer to give advice to the young star.

Jennifer Lopez is about to join a prestigious list. MTV has announced that she will be the recipient of the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at this year’s Video Music Awards being held at Radio City Music Hall on Monday night, August 20. She will also perform during the VMAs telecast for the first time since 2001.

The Video Vanguard Award is an honorary prize that is handed out for a body of work in music and music videos, and Lopez certainly has a resume to qualify. After a career breakthrough in the 1990s as a Fly Girl on the sketch comedy “In Living Color,” she made a name for herself as an actress in films like “My Family” (1995) and “Selena” (1997), for which she earned a Golden Globe nomination.

Then Lopez transitioned to music in 1999 with the release of her first album, “On the 6,” and its lead single “If You Had My Love.

Robert Lindsay and Harris Dickinson have also joined the cast.

Several new cast members have joined Disney’s Maleficent II, the sequel to 2014’s Maleficent starring Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning, with production now underway at Pinewood Studios and on locations in the UK.

LONDON -- Tiger Aspect Prods. has poached BBC head of comedy Sophie Clarke-Jervoise to take the role of senior executive beginning Nov. 1, company chairman Peter Bennett Jones said Thursday. In the role, Clarke-Jervoise will be responsible for overseeing Tiger Aspect's comedy activity, managing the department and developing original programming as well as working on a number of series already in development. She will work alongside Geoffrey Perkins, Tiger Aspect's creative director for comedy. During her six-year tenure at the BBC, Clarke-Jervoise developed and executive produced such series as Manchild, Help, My Family and Coupling.

Award-winning American comedy writer-producer Fred Barron is heading up a highly successful venture to introduce the American studio production system to the British comedy process. His hit BBC comedy My Family has now led to a second sitcom, Everything I Know About Men, which is heading into production at the network under Barron's oversight. The new sitcom represents the second phase in a most unusual move by the BBC to have Barron pioneer American team comedy writing there, something entirely new in Britain, where TV sitcom writers usually work solo. Barron, whose executive producer credits include Seinfeld, The Larry Sanders Show and Caroline in the City, has been headquartered at the BBC for the past four years, charged with developing and showrunning new team-written sitcoms. But it's only now that he feels comfortable declaring the experiment a success.

Fred Barron, creator of the hit British comedy My Family, has filed a lawsuit against producer-distributor DLT Entertainment in an effort to stop DLT from licensing the format rights to the show in the United States. This summer, DLT started exploring the possibilities of setting up a U.S. version of the hot BBC One series (HR 8/11). Barron's lawsuit, filed Tuesday in Los Angeles Superior Court, quotes a clause from a 2002 agreement between Barron and DLT that the two sides "agree that they will mutually agree upon a strategy and plan for seeking to develop, market and produce a U.S. version of the series." The suit, filed by attorneys Martin Singer and Allison Hart, claims that in breach of the 2002 agreement, DLT "has previously and is currently unilaterally attempting to market and sell the format rights for a U.S. version of the series to various television networks in the U.S. without (Barron's) knowledge or consent."...

Another hot British comedy, BBC One's My Family, is looking to relocate to the United States. New York-based DLT Entertainment, the company which in the 1970s brought Stateside the ITV/Thames TV Britcom formats that became Three's Company and Too Close For Comfort, is now preparing to take the concept of My Family to the U.S. networks. My Family, which became BBC One's highest-rated sitcom in five years when it premiered in 2000, has been a staple on the channel for three years, currently ranking as its top scripted series and No. 3 entertainment program overall so far this year.
