    Not a big deal

As I am from Hungary I have heard many people saying better and better things about Üvegtigris so far, but actually I don't understand the reason of all the fuss.

I liked many points of the movie, some of the quotes really cheered me up, but the stereotyped characters are present again, like in every Hungarian film, and the story is also pretty dull. I liked the first half, but then I started to get bored, and then I found the whole film just BORING.

Rudolf Péter is good as always, Reviczky is brilliant also, but the others are just there... doing nothing.

How many years still have to pass for a GOOD Hungarian film???

    Refreshing humour

I don't know whether this movie runs in non-Hungarian countries, but it's probably the kind of movie which is best when you know the country, or at least the "eastern-european life". The center of the movie is a food shop in a caravan in the middle of nowhere, somewhere in Hungary, and the locals who live their life, do their business there or just hang around to spend the days, and where every day is just the same... but different. Everybody is real and fighting for survival... and they're unreal as much as the world is. (I've just seen "Clerks" and the movie reminded me of "that day" there, when "everything just happens".) This is one of the best Hungarian movies nowadays (doesn't contain politics and doesn't revolve around sex, truly an exception). Watch it.

Good actors - bad & boring movie

    This movie was boring!

Yes, there are a few funny moments and jokes, but you cannot base a whole movie on that!

The characters are too stereotyped, there is no real story - but short episodes with freaky side-characters, who are not freaky enough to make the plot genuine.

Shame, because most of the actors are acknowledged in Hungary, a mystery why they took the roles.

This is *not* a new hope for the Hungarian film. It was boring, though it was meant to be genuine or unique. They could have tried much more harder than this... 2 out of 10

    A truly great Hungarian movie

The Hero in Hungary does not arrive driving a super-car like a red Ferrari: he rides a Babetta, a Czechoslovakian funny motorcycle. But he is really riding in style. I really liked this movie and this was (as you may suspect) not because it had great technical solutions or unusual movie experiments in it. It was excellent because you do believe what the characters say or think, from the first take till the very last one Üvegtigris makes you aware of the ironic Hungarian world we are surrounded with. And even though it represents 'the great Hungarian reality' it never fails to be funny and make you think. In one word: this movie is a must see and I hope it will be known by vast audiences abroad soon.

    Funny movie with good actors

Funny movie about some guys whose hang around a caravan canteen named Üvegtigris and live their life with many comic situations as it can happen with anybody here.

Why I really like this movie that there's a strong (of course excessive)satirical aspect in it to show some typical characters from the real life and their comics.

I agree with Grin, this is a new hope for the Hungarian film. Also I mean it doesn't contain a heavy-hearted or dramatic line what is there in many other Hungarian films in the last decades.

Probably we shall learn again how to make light movies only for the entertainment.
