Power Rangers: La Force du Temps

24 Years Later, I'm Convinced Power Rangers Fans Give This Season Too Much Credit
Image
Quick LinksI Absolutely Loved Power Rangers Time Force When I Was Growing UpPower Rangers Time Force is Only Anything Special When Telling its Main StoryTime Force Falls Short in Key Ways Compared to Superior Seasons of Power Rangers

There are certain Power Rangersseasons that, since they first aired, have been hailed as the pinnacle of the franchise. Seasons like Power Rangers in Space, Power Rangers Spd, and Power Rangers Rpm are near-universally loved, even with the fandom being able to acknowledge their respective flaws. But, when it comes to Power Rangers Time Force, I think most fans fail to realize just how many issues it has.

Power Rangers Time Force is commonly held up as a masterpiece, but it's far from the best season in the franchise. I love the season, and it features some of the most engaging characters and storylines in the series, along with one of the most talented casts of actors.

Power Rangers In Order: How To Watch Every Movie & TV Series
Image
The 1990s were a good time to be a fan of Japanese pop culture. After the '80s made gamers out of millions of kids thanks to Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog, it was the '90s when anime started to become mainstream in the U.S. (even if kids didn't know it at the time) thanks to "Pokémon" becoming a worldwide cultural phenomenon. (That and "Sailor Moon" and "Dragon Ball Z" turning kids and teens into lifelong fans of the medium.)

But it wasn't just animation. In live-action, "Power Rangers" brought tokusatsu fun to the West and started a hugely influential superhero franchise that, yes, is still very good. Created by Haim Saban and Shuki Levy in collaboration with Shotaro Ishinomori, the long-running property is mostly made out of reused footage from Ishinomori's iconic tokusatsu series "Super Sentai." It revolves around a team of youths trained to morph into...

Every Saban Season of Power Rangers, Ranked
Image
Of Power Rangers' four eras, two have been produced by Saban. The first era of Power Rangers, the Saban Era, begins with Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Season 1 and ends with Power Rangers Time Force. The Neo-Saban Era, meanwhile, is the third era of the franchise, and runs from Power Rangers Samurai through Power Rangers Super Ninja Steel.

Both the Saban and Neo-Saban Eras of Powers Rangers are mixed bags. Both contain seasons which are heavily flawed, and fan-favorites that are viewed as all-time greats. The best seasons have superb casts, stories, and action, while the weakest seasons don't aim to be anything more than an acceptable television series for young kids.

Power Rangers Megaforce is a Disappointing Anniversary Season

Power Rangers Megaforce and Power Rangers Super Megaforce are widely viewed as the weakest seasons in the entire franchise. Taking the series back to high school, these seasons only offer bland characters,...

Power Rangers Jungle Fury Is One of the Most Underrated Series in the Franchise
Image
Quick Links Jungle Fury Has a Well-Rounded Team of Rangers The Villains of Jungle Fury are Among the Best in the Series Jungle Fury Makes the Most of its Animal and Martial Arts Theming

There are several Power Rangers seasons that are universally recognized as the best of the best. This includes seasons like Power Rangers Time Force, Power Rangers in Space, and Power Rangers Rpm. Other seasons, such as Power Rangers Super Megaforce, Power Rangers Ninja Steel, and Power Rangers Operation Overdrive are viewed as being the weakest in the franchise.

Rarely brought up in discussions of either the best or the worst seasons, Power Rangers Jungle Fury has never received the attention it deserves. Sandwiched between Rpm and Overdrive, Jungle Fury is neither a radical reinvention of the series like its predecessor, nor an unmitigated failure like its successor, leaving it overshadowed by both. It may not be...

The Weirdest Power Rangers Episode I've Ever Watched Had No Right Being This Good
Image
Power Rangers Time Force's "Movie Madness" episode is one of the weirdest yet best in the franchise. The episode features standout hand-to-hand fight scenes with Rangers in alternate realities. Despite the lack of morphed Rangers, "Movie Madness" showcases 40 minutes of non-stop action.

Having watched all seasons of Power Rangers more than once, Im surprised by how great the shows weirdest episode is. Power Rangers is based on Super Sentai, meaning that the tone and the aesthetic of the American show are very much defined by what the Japanese franchise does. One of Super Sentais defining traits is comedy, from jokes that get lost in translation and cannot be incorporated into the localized version to visual gags that are often reutilized in Power Rangers.

The best thing about watching Power Rangers in chronological order is to see how certain aspects of the show evolve with time. For example, from Power Rangers in Space onward,...

Sorry Kimberly, But Power Rangers Greatest Pink Ranger Was Only Introduced In The 2000s
Image
Time Force's Jen Scott is the best Pink Ranger, leading her team and having a complex storyline. Power Rangers Time Force offers more character development and higher stakes compared to Mighty Morphin. Jen Scott's story stands out from other Pink Rangers, making her one of the most important characters in the franchise.

Kimberly is one of the most iconic Power Rangers of all time, but I believe that the greatest Pink Ranger in the franchise was only introduced in the 2000s. Although most seasons of the show take place in the same continuity, the Power Rangers chronology can be split into a few different eras. The 1990s saw the Zordon Era, which refers to every season between Mighty Morphin and In Space. After Zordon sacrificed himself to save the universe, Power Rangers started to release standalone stories that could be watched without any previous knowledge of the franchise.

Power Ranges Made Its Greatest Villains Even Better With a Controversial Twist
Image
Power Rangers has a rare amount of villains that turn over a new leaf. Ransik and Astronema are great examples of villains that turned out to be good for the right reasons. Even still, it could be argued these villains may not have earned their redemption.

A season of Power Rangers will typically feature an irredeemable evil main villain who's defeated by the heroes in the finale. Two of the biggest exceptions to this role are Power Rangers Time Force and Power Rangers in Space, two of the show's most popular seasons, which feature main villains who aren't defeated in the end, and who are complex characters that receive happy endings.

The main villain of Power Rangers Time Force, Ransik, is a mutant terrorist from the year 3000, but one who loves his daughter, Nadira, and one who thought he was fighting for a good cause. Astronema, previously known as Karone,...

Power Rangers Officially Debuts the Final Form of a Major TV Villain
Image
Nadira completes her redemption arc in Ranger Academy #6, revealing her new life as a married mother of two. The comic explores the theme that everyone has good within them, even former villains like Nadira. Nadira's storyline in the Power Rangers franchise showcases the power of consistent pursuit of redemption.

Warning: Spoilers for Ranger Academy #6!Nadira, one of the recurring villains from Power Rangers Time Force, has returned following a successful re-branding, of sorts. Nadira is best remembered as Silver Hills' local jewel thief and the daughter of the show's primary villain, Ransik. Much like Ransik, Nadira underwent a change of heart regarding her evil ways by the series' end, thanks largely to a surprising friendship with the Green Time Force Ranger, Trip.

Kate Sheldon played Nadira throughout Power Rangers Time Force, the Power Rangers franchise's ninth season. Sheldon also portrayed the villain in a crossover in Power Rangers Wild Force the following year.

Power Rangers Teams That Deserve a Reunion Special
Image
With Power Rangers Cosmic Fury serving as the end of the series' ongoing, original continuity and there being no officially announced plans for what's next, the future of Power Rangers is currently up in the air. While fans eagerly await the next evolution of this timeless franchise, the key to keeping them hooked could be to look to the past.

The 2023 special Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers: Once & Always brought together the majority of the cast for a new, more adult-oriented story. "Once and Always" was a fantastic reunion for the Mighty Morphin cast, but other Power Rangers teams deserve their own specials. These are the ten seasons of Power Rangers that most deserve the chance to return one last time.

10 Reasons Why Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue is an Underrated Gem
Image
Lightspeed Rescue stands out as a unique Power Rangers season with a self-contained story and a different approach to editing and cinematography. Carter Grayson is a beloved Red Ranger, likened to Captain America, who displays bravery and leadership in the face of danger. The character relationships, gripping drama, and action-packed rescue missions make Lightspeed Rescue a standout season in the Power Rangers franchise.

Certain Power Rangers series have reputations as being the cream of the prop. Ask any fan of the franchise which seasons are their favorites, and names that will inevitably come up are Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Power Rangers Time Force, and Power Rangers in Space. There are also seasons that most fans agree to be among the less favorable, such as Power Rangers Megaforce, Power Rangers Ninja Steel, and Power Rangers Operation Overdrive. But oddly enough, Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue rarely comes up with either of these conversations.

Power Rangers’ Coolest Red Ranger Was The Show’s Perfect Anti-Hero
Image
Anti-heroes are more interesting than brainwashed villains in the Power Rangers series. Time Force introduced the Quantum Ranger, an anti-hero who broke the formula as an extra Red Ranger. Power Rangers Time Force is considered one of the best seasons due to its mature tone and complex characters.

The coolest of Power Rangers’ Red Rangers was not a team leader but rather the series’ perfect anti-hero. The Super Sentai shows Power Rangers covers often include at least one extra Ranger, which has led to a classic trope of a sixth hero joining the team at some point in the season. A significant portion of those characters were introduced as evil Rangers, such as Green Ranger Tommy Oliver or Titanium Ranger Ryan Mitchell. Evil Rangers stories can get repetitive, which is why having anti-heroes instead of brainwashed villains can be much more interesting.

The end of the Zordon Era was a...

‘Ninja vs Shark’ Review
Image
Stars: Julia Nagano, Yuichi Nakamura, Kohshu Kirano, Shun Nishime, Kanon Miyahara | Written by Junichiro Ashiki | Directed by Kôichi Sakamoto

With a title like Ninja vs Shark you might think this is another Mark Polonia film along the lines of Sharkula or Shark Encounters of the Third Kind. Or maybe one of the more bizarre Chinese kaiju films such as Land Shark. But you’d be wrong, it’s actually a Japanese film written by Junichiro Ashiki and directed by Kôichi Sakamoto.

During Japan’s Edo Period, Sayo, a pearl diver from the village of Okitsu, swims back to shore only to find the remains of one of her fellow divers washed up on the beach. This has been happening a lot since Lord Koshiro Mizuchi of the Crimson Devil Clan demanded the villagers hand over their pearls to him. When they refused he used sorcery to turn the sharks into living weapons.

10 Best Sci-Fi Power Rangers Seasons, Ranked
Image
Power Rangers' sci-fi seasons are among the best entries in the franchise, featuring androids, time travel, and space exploration. Some standout sci-fi seasons include Power Rangers Lost Galaxy, Power Rangers Time Force, and Power Rangers Spd. Power Rangers In Space and Power Rangers Lost Galaxy were the first to successfully combine the Power Rangers formula with sci-fi elements, delivering mature and impactful storytelling.

The Power Rangers universe includes 30 seasons of television, many of which belong in the sci-fi genre. While every Power Rangers TV show follows the basic premise introduced in Mighty Morphin, the franchise has evolved a lot since the final days of the Zordon Era. Some of the best entries in the Power Rangers chronology could not be more different from Mighty Morphin, including the shows that delved into the sci-fi aspect of the saga.

Starting with Power Rangers Lost Galaxy, most of the seasons have been standalone stories.

10 Power Rangers Team-Ups That Never Happened (But Would've Been Awesome)
Image
Fans have been eagerly waiting for a crossover between the original Mighty Morphing Power Rangers and the Turbo Rangers, especially to see Jason and Tommy team up as Red Rangers. The potential team-up between Power Rangers Wild Force and Power Rangers Ninja Storm would have been exciting, especially with the ninja theme and the presence of the villain Onikage. The combination of Power Rangers Beast Morphers and Power Rangers Megaforce would provide an opportunity to expand the world-building behind Megaforce and explore any flaws in the Megaforce world.

Over the years there have been a lot of Power Rangers team-ups, but some have never happened despite how awesome they would be to see. Classic team-up episodes and movies across the Power Rangers franchise have included rangers from the future helping rangers from the past to defeat common enemies, or those who will become powerful. Jason David Frank's New Movie Is The Gritty Power Rangers Story 2017's Failed Reboot Should Have Been
Image
Legend of the White Dragon is the closest thing to a gritty Power Rangers story that Power Rangers (2017) couldn't be, drawing inspiration from the franchise and other Tokusatsu shows. The film features Power Rangers actors such as Jason David Frank, Jason Faunt, Cerina Vincent, and Ciara Hanna, but it is not a Power Rangers movie. While a gritty Power Rangers reboot is unlikely, Power Rangers can still evolve beyond its original formula, such as through new TV show formats targeted at young adults.

Power Rangers Is Already Setting Up A Better Reboot Than The Failed 2017 Movie
Image
Power Rangers (2017) failed at the box office, but a new reboot could start fresh and reimagine the saga for a new generation. A young adult Power Rangers TV show is in development, which means a different tone and original story, breaking away from Super Sentai adaptations. The success of other Power Rangers media, such as the Power Rangers comics, proves that a YA reboot with new characters can work and attract new audiences.

Power Rangers (2017) failed at igniting a Power Rangers movie franchise, but the saga already has the perfect setup for a new reboot of the popular TV series. The Power Rangers movie’s disappointing box office did not interfere with the Power Rangers TV shows, which have continued to air at least one season every year. Power Rangers Reveals What Happened To The Original Yellow Ranger

The Power Rangers anniversary special Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always confirms what happened to Trini, the original Yellow Ranger. Thuy Trang, who played Trini in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, passed away in 2001 after a tragic car accident. As the first Mighty Morphin-related Power Rangers content for TV since the original show, Once & Always had the chance to pay homage to Trang and her iconic Power Rangers character.

George Clooney and Thomas Robinson in À la poursuite de demain (2015)
Although she may not be the most well-known name in Tomorrowland, here at Digital Spy we think Britt Robertson is a star in the making.
