Whoa! What can I say that doesn't delve into the murky world of cliche?
Imagine what happened if Manga made a combination of Resident Evil, Broken Sword and Metal Gear Solid and that is more of less what Fear Effect is all about.
The game starts just like MGS in so many ways, including the ability to 'stealth' enemies, with RPG (where Broken Sword comes from) undertones, but as soon as you leave Disk One, it takes a turn for the dark and sinister, Resident Evil style.
The use of weaponry is very Hong Kong movie style (where influences clearly come from-the game starts in a Bladerunneresque Hong Kong), such as using 2 pistols at once, although the further you go, the more useless they become.
And events of the final disk has to be one of the most atmospheric experiences ever put onto the PlayStation, outstripping anything Raccoon City can muster, especially acting wise.
A must buy, albeit with a 'Mature' audience in mind.

Fear Effect is a truly amazing game. It is an explosive action-adventure on 4-discs. You follow three mercenaries, who is on a job in Hong-Kong. The first thing you`ll notice about the game is the fact that it looks gorgeous, with lots of fancy animation and cool things happening in the backgrounds. The soundtrack sets a perfect atmosphere in Fear Effect. Just like in John Woo`s actionmovies, the characters in Fear Effect are able to hold two pistols at once, making actionscenes a treat! The story is innovative and very interesting, but I won`t spoil that for you. Fear Effect is probably one of the last truly original and classic games we will see on the playstation 1. The storyline is a mature one, which is a refreshing change from the "cute/childish" storylines of most other games out there. There is plenty of violence and even some hmmmm.... sex in this game.
Go buy it!(if you are over 15/17) 9/10

I played though this game a few years back, just after it came out, so all this is from memory...
I remember it had a canny cool plot for a game - its wasnt exactly MGS or anything, but canny good, a kinda 'film' plot. The graphics of the game were VERY good for the PSOne and the backgrounds were very well, the only bad thing was, every few seconds the whole thing froze up then repeated itself, lol.
I LOVED the way that the game was in WIDESCREEN, ratio 2.35:1 though, that was very cool, because of course, theres no better format than widescreen!
Anyway, overall a good game, oh one last thing - from everyone elses comments on this page, everyone seemed to think that the game was explicit in some ways, i know it was kinda sexual, but there wasnt any bad language or much voilence from what i remember. well there was a bit in a cut scene that involve a helecopter pilot being shot in the face... urgh, i geddit know!
anyway good game, **** outta *****

This four disc game for the Playstation is a great game! It has terrific graphics, great sound, and good controls. The game itself is presented in an anime-style. It so good that while your playing the game it seems like your actually watching an anime movie!!!
The storyline is mixed horror and cyber-punk based on Chinese mysticism. From Hong Kong to Chinese Hell you will travel using the main characters of Hana, Deke, and Glas. The puzzles are good though you can always find the solution for them within the gameplay itself. The only downside is the annoying reloading when you die, which will be often.
Quick warning, the Mature rating is very fitting with scenes of gory violence, crude language, and nudity. Great game for a mature audience!!

This is surley the best game on PS1 especially if you are a guy. I mean even though it is a cartoon the idea of continuous violence and even some tit shots of Hana taking a shower and flashing a dude is for sure to be a good game. Defenitaly buy this game action, nudity, profanity. what more do you want....In part two there is a little girl on girl ;) just wait you will see.
